Truth's Harem #1

Fate's Illusion

Rate this book
The gods want her dead. The feeling is mutual.

Lexi hates the gods.

Their arrogance. Their disregard for life. Their oppressive rule.

Her father, Hades, is no exception. But since his brothers imprisoned him in a labyrinth, he and Lexi share a common goal—destroying the other gods. To free him, she must enlist the help of a loyal and gorgeous hellhound, and an obnoxious but sexy hero.

No one warned her about the trials that await.

The void that threatens to consume her. The rampaging champion who can kill her with a single blow. And the ex who’s looking for vengeance of the fatal variety.

And they definitely left out the details about fated love. Twice over.

Now Lexi must decide what she’s willing to surrender to defeat opponents who will sacrifice humanity before they’ll forfeit their power.

An Urban Fantasy Reverse Harem.

Greek mythology used as a plot in modern fiction is nothing new. It's been done again and again but I can't help to understand why the appeal stays; after centuries, an infinite amount of scenarios remains unwritten.

Allyson Lindt did not nailed one of those but managed to create something exciting and effective with an over-used trope: Hades's daughter.

In an undefined future, the Gods rose from their slumber to rule above humans once again. They forced their faith on Humanity and played with lives as they seemed fit. Sacrifices, fights to the death, cities destroyed... Humans have been suffering their egos and tantrums for decades.
And it's in this messed up world that survives Lexi, forty something eternally stuck in her early twenties, daughter of Hades and Persephone, and with the task of freeing Daddy Dearest from his godly prison.

Fate's Illusion is a little bit of Godhunter , a little bit of Kate Daniels and a whole lot of messy. Darkness and fear are a constant, illusion and reality are tightly wrapped together. It's both fast paced and kind of slow, with complex characters and a great world building. Definitely worth giving it a shot.

biggest issue: this book was so goddamn confusing. i swear it took me to 60% of the way through the book for me to actually understand what was happening!

Fate's Illusion was reasonably ok, but i just couldn't get invested in the storyline (because i didn't know WHAT WAS HAPPENING) and the characters were such mehs to me. i feel like this is the second book and i missed a major section, cause i was just so confused! i could barely be bothered finishing the book, and i don't really have an opinion about the romance.
complete meh, but thanks to the author and amazon kindle for the free book!

I love a good contemporary mythology

... but this ain’t it. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the premise, and even liked some aspects of the characters. However, there was so much that could have been utilized in the story, that the world building was a let down, and the two dimensional characters were annoying at times. Lexi and Cerberus were the most fleshed
out characters, but Actaeon was very sulky and self absorbed, plus Hades was your typical one dimensional “I want to rule the world” villain.

I think that this would have worked better as either an abridged short story, or flesh out the world and the plot and make it a 400+ page novel. This novella length teased just enough, but then couldn’t back it up.

3 stars for the idea, but in reality it’s more of a 2.5 star ⭐️ read.

This was book good!. It took awhile ( almost 40 percent through) to start to really enjoy it! I loved the storyline with all the Gods, and I liked the FMC well enough! This book has a lot of editing errors and misused words here and there, especially towards the end for some reason and that took away from the story for me.I took off a star for that which put it at a four, and then I felt like too many times people were not who they seemed, again more so towards the last 30% of the book. I really cannot explain what I mean without giving spoilers and I don't do that. That was kind of where I would sort of lose track of what was going on, and I would have to go back 5 pages of so, and re-read to figure where I missed something I know I sound like I am nitpicking but really, my reasons for complaining are valid to me because they detracted from my enjoyment of the book. I thought this was more of an adult book from reading the blurb, but it felt like a 17 years old and up type of book based on the steam level being about a 1.5 (scale 1-5). Chemistry between the characters was there but not at a level you would expect from a grown woman and God's that are older than time. Sex was more implied when it was even done, and mostly fade to black. All in all, I rate this book at a solid 3.75 stars rounded up go to a 4, and great for adults who like clean urban fantasy with an implied RH. Not sure when I will read book 2. Maybe for a day when I want a less adult R rated theme!

Action, adventure and mythology … 4.5 stars

This is a good urban fantasy that’s full of action, adventure, betrayal, mythology and some steamy reverse harem romance. The story is well written with an interesting premise – Greek gods in modern times demanding sacrifice to appease their bruised egos due to lack of worship. Lexi is the daughter of Hades, and as such, has a special gift which puts her on the radar of the other gods. To thwart the gods, she agrees to a quest to free daddy-not-so-dearest from his prison. To aid her on her journey is Cerberus, Hade’s minion and Actaeon, the hero-son of the moon goddess Artemis. Both are stalwart, courageous companions and well suited to the task. For me, the trials at the labyrinth could have been more substantial to uniquely challenge everyone’s skill set. That aside, I very much enjoyed this story and the inclusion of so many of the Greek gods, heroes and mythological creatures that were featured. I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I love, Love, Love Allyson Lindt’s contemporary romance books. I’ve read them all and they’re all been superb. They both appeal to the geek girl on me and are superb erotic romances (the kind with superb eroticism and - gasp - actual well thought out plots). Now, in Fate's Illusion: An Urban Fantasy Reverse Harem (Truth's Harem Book 1), she turns to fantasy, though of course with a twist and lots of heat. The Gods are real - and they’re not very nice at all. Yup, good start, and Lexi (yet another superbly crafted leading lady) has a tough Hill to climb - but I’d not bet against her. Adventure, heat and mythology come to life. A great combination and a great series book 1. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

Fate's Illusion, wow. What a book. There's no time to prepare as events unfold quickly for Lexi right out of the gate. Hiding from the Greek gods that now control the world after an uprising only a few decades before, Lexi is no stranger to sticking to the shadows and trusting no one. Well, except Cerberus. Yes, the three headed dog of hell. THAT Cerberus. Together they have a crazy plan for one of the "dead" gods, though their motives are vastly different. Add in a broody hero by the name of Actaeon, and some god meddling, and things get even more complicated.

The chemistry between the characters is off the charts, though I found Lexi's and Cerberus' chemistry stronger and more likely to work out than hers and Actaeon's. It'll be interesting to see how that all develops through into the next book coming out later this year.

If you like thrilling stories, reverse harem action, strong heroes and heroines, and meddlesome gods, this is a book to read.

This book has such a fantastic mix of mythological characters. The author does a seriously great job of bringing this characters to life, and some of them in ways I really had not anticipated.

As much as I loved, and I mean LOVED, this book and its concept, I feel that there was too much going on in the one book. Too many different storyline arcs were going on simultaneously that there wasn’t really a primary focus, just a lot of smaller focuses with one being slightly larger than the rest, if that makes sense. Lexi, Actaeon, Cerberus: each of them had major storyline events going on simultaneously.

A lot of the book also seemed to meander along for the most part, and then at some points it moves a bit too quickly. Again, this storyline is amazing but it does seem to be lacking high points of tension or conflict.

That ending is pretty epic, I definitely did not expect to see that happening!!

Do I like that Hades is evil? Nope. I’ve been forever influenced by Lore Olympus and my own predilection towards the god of the underworld. I spent the majority of the book prior to Hades being let out of his prison hoping for something that never happened. Evil Sperm Donor. Got it.

I like everything else. Cerberus, Actaeon, Alexandra herself. I was hoping after the dream sequence with Morpheus, he would join due to his history with Actaeon, but nope.

A lot of stuff happens in the first book alone and while Cerberus/Alexandra was insta-love it’s also not out of character for a servant of Hades to fixate on his daughter after she saves him from certain death so it’s also not off-putting. Actaeon/Lexi is much slower in comparison so it makes up for the speed of Cerberus/Lexi.

New spin on Greek gods

I want sure what to expect for this. I've always liked the Greek gods but that never seems to translate well into fiction. I was pleasantly surprised by this book though. It really kept with the original stories of Greek mythology, but still managed to be original. My o yo real complaint was the beginning. I was several chapters in before I figured out what was happening. It kind of feels like it starts in the middle of the story and you have to catch up. I'm adding this author to my watch list. I'll definitely read the next one.

Fates Illusion starts out with a huge WOW! Right from the start, Lexi has a inate sense of survival. She knows that she is more than ordinary and must continue to hide from the Gods who want to control her and the world. With the help to two awesome men, she is tested time and time again. The relationships begin to develop and the story continues to be intriguing. Can’t wait to find out more as this is left with a fabulous cliffhanger.

Allyson Lindt has done a fabulous job of pulling readers in to an intricate story of strength and survival against extraordinary odds.

I’ve just finished reading this, and I really (really!) liked it. It’s a slow burn RH, so don’t expect too much in terms of *that, yet! It starts off with a very original storyline, and a good mix of characters. I particularly enjoyed the elements of Greek Mythology mixed in with the Urban Fantasy setting. I’d definitely be interested in finding out what happens next (especially with the twist at the end of the book!)

Falls flat in areas

The characterizations weren’t as strong as they could be, and the last fight scene didn’t feel realistic to me. There’s a string that wasn’t tied up with the conclusion of Prometheus at the end of the fight either, and no further mention of him, which was rather frustrating. I like the plot but I feel like it could be strengthened. There was no explanation as to what happened with Hades after the fight, leaving the main plot unresolved.

When I first started this book, I was confused. I felt like I missed a book before this but after I got in a couple of chapters, I was able to understand everything without issue. I look forward to seeing where this series goes from here now that it has my attention.

If you like the ancient God's troupe then you will enjoy this book. Don't give up if it feels confusing to you (like it did me) in the first couple chapters. It is an enjoyable read.

What a mix of gods and action and mystery in a good way

I really loved this book. The mystery is in trying to piece the story together from the Mc. It's a unique spin on the gods and how things in the future turned out when the gods took control. Highly recommend this to anyone that likes God reads and a bit of steamy action as well

Allyson Lindt's "Fate's Illusion" is the first tale in the Truth's Harem Series. It's got a neat mythology under-girding an amazing cast of characters. I love all of the Greek Gods and their quirks. Apparently heros and hellhounds are sexy lovers! The trials reminded me of some of the neatest episodes of Angel and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. A great start to a new series...I can't wait to read #2!

Interesting and fresh take on the Greek Gods in a future contemporary setting. I really enjoyed the main character and the way she refused to fall victim to common tropes within the genre. It was a refreshing read, and I'll be very interested to see how Lexi, Cerberus and Actaeon go in book 2.

Modern mythology with a nerdy twist

Thoroughly enjoyed the book both with the Greek mythology and the nerdy references, although Lexi definitely needs to learn Harry potter so Cerberus ' references don't fall flat lol
