This series is a marvel of true romance and action packed thrillers. A judge is being threatened and a prisoner is the culprit. When the prisoner, Harper, escapes in a well planned event, he's not stopping his threats to Judge Andrew Phillips, a handsome, brown eyed gay men. Big, blue eyed, muscled, tough Deputy Clay Brown is assigned to protect Andrew. Thrown together because of circumstances, the men get closer, hang out and deal with a break-in. While under all of the stress, Andrew's sister takes ill and he must take her two kids to his home. Clay and Andrew step up to care for them amidst the search for the escapee. Petey is Clay's adorable Corgi, who is a big help to everyone.
Clay must take Andrew and the kids to a safer location, where the kid's are their priority, and also the men get time to explore their budding emotions. The sexy times are sizzling, and we get more action and suspense in this thrilling tale. I loved the characters, the well written story, and the epilogue is wonderful.
Andrew Grey, our author, is a favorite of mine, and I've read the Carlisle Cops series, where we meet a lot of the characters in this series, but this can stand alone.
I recommend it highly. ENJOY !

When the psycho who blames Judge Andrew Phillips for his conviction escapes custody and makes his intentions for revenge known through calls and texts, Sheriff's Deputy Clay Brown is assigned to Andrew's 24/7 protection.

Clay and Andrew have locked horns in the past, both are control freaks, and have clashed mainly because they've both been fighting their attraction to one another. Now the two are forced to spend time together and they quickly realize how much they have in common, how much they actually like each other, and they quickly begin to fall in love.

When Andrew's sister is hospitalized he ends up with temporary custody of his four and six year old niece and nephew. But the fugitive bent on revenge is closing in no matter where they hide, which means the stakes grow even higher for Clay to protect the man, and children, who quickly make a place in his heart.

Sweet, suspenseful, and easy to read I sped through Fire and Granite quickly. I loved that we not only got to meet new characters, but also got to check in with some other characters from Grey's Carlisle Cops series in this too.

All in all a fun, quick read with dual POV and a very happy ending. I'm looking forward to more in the series.

I had fun listening to this. There's some action, a few twists, and a very happy ending. Sweet and suspenseful, with a dual POV, and a touch of enemies-to-lovers, Fire and Granite has fantastic narration with Greg Tremblay offering up a wide array of character voices, great pacing, and just enough emotion to make the story come alive.

Two men on the same side of he law...

and still that's not enough to quell the animosity between them until one man is put into danger...

Judge Andrew Phillips has it all under control in his courtroom...he knows the law and he's a master at maintaining order in his courtroom. But when a fugitive named Harper escapes and sets about keeping his promise of revenge on the man who sent him to prison. Judge Andrew suddenly finds himself being guarded 24 hours a day, seven days a week by Deputy Clay Brown...his control begins to slip. As the danger escalates Andrew and Clay both begin to let down their barriers and begin to discover that they each might just be what the other man needs in his life.

I've been a fan of Andrew Grey's for a while now and I have to admit that recently things have been hit and miss for me but with this second installment of his 'Carlisle Deputies' series things are hitting their stride again and as with the first book I've really enjoyed this one.

I like Clay and his little dog too...yes, Clay has an adorable dog named Petey, who'like my own dog is pretty sure that the whole world is around just to give him love but he's a really good little guy and I think he might be right...sorry, I love pets in stories so I felt compelled to ramble about Clay's adorable dog for a moment.

While 'Fire and Granite' is a romantic thriller and really not a mystery the author has still given us a bit of a surprise ending and we get to see a bit of Red and Terry from 'Carlisle Cops' the series that spawned the 'Carlisle Deputies', so for fans of that series' there's a bit of a treat. I haven't read this series yet but I will confess I do own the books and it's on my TBR list or maybe I'll add it to my 'TBLT' list (To Be Listened To). While I liked Judge Andrew, i have to admit Clay was definitely my favorite. he was strong and confident but not to the extent of being arrogant or conceited and he seemed to someone who was incredibly kind...in general he was the type of person that any law enforcement agency would be lucky to have.

Overall I really enjoyed this story and while I would have liked the relationship development to be a little bit stronger this was still a nice enjoyable story and Greg Tremblay as the narrator only made the story that much better. I have to admit that while I've lost track of how many audio books I've listened to with Greg Tremblay as the narrator, I have no problem remembering the number of them that I've had a problem with the narration and that would be zero...zip, zilch, nadda, none! I have a very, very short list of narrators who I don't need to worry about listening to a sample because I know I'm going to enjoy listening to it and from the audio standpoint I won't have any issues or concerns.

'Fire and Granite' is a what the world of music would call 'easy listening' you get to just sit back, relax and enjoy the story effortlessly.

Review from 2019

A+ for narration, B- for content.

I listened to Fire and Flint, the first book in Andrew Grey’s series featuring the sheriff’s deputies in Carlisle, PA, last year and enjoyed it sufficiently to want to listen to another book in the series. Fire and Granite is book two, and like its predecessor, it’s a fairly low-angst, low-drama listen with a tender and rather sweet romance at its centre.

Deputy Clay Brown is one of a team escorting a high-risk, dangerous criminal from prison to the courthouse when their vehicles are ambushed, and the prisoner – who by a weird quirk of fate happens to be Clay’s cousin Harper Grange – is sprung in what is clearly a well-planned operation. Clay is frustrated at being on the other end of the investigation rather than being out there looking for the escapee, so he’s not too pleased when he’s handed a different assignment. Judge Andrew Phillips was responsible for putting Grange behind bars, and less than an hour after the ambush, received a phone call threatening his life. Clay is assigned as his protection detail while Grange is at large – but as he doesn’t exactly get along with “Judge Moody and Superior” or like him very much, it’s going to be a difficult few days.

Judge Phillips is tough, fair and by the book; he doesn’t suffer fools, he doesn’t tolerate theatrics in his courtroom, he runs things with an iron hand and likes things just so – so the last thing he wants is round-the-clock protection and someone telling him what to do, where to go and basically interfering in his well-ordered life. As if it’s not bad enough to be getting death threats from a whack-job criminal, he’s also got to put up with “impatient control freak” Deputy Clay Brown 24/7… and make sure he keeps a tight lid on the powerful pull of attraction he feels towards him.

It’s not surprising that two such strong personalities should clash, and it’s not long before the pair are butting heads over the fact that Andrew doesn’t like feeling so out of control. But he soon has to concede that Clay knows what he’s doing – and agrees not to take any unnecessary risks. Andrew is reluctantly impressed when Clay takes his acquiescence without gloating over it – and is more than a little surprised when the deputy suggests that it would make more sense for Andrew to stay at his house for the next few days rather than the other way around.

After this, both men start to drop their guards around each other, and Andrew has to admit to himself that Clay isn’t at all the jerk he’d originally thought him; he’s kind, down-to-earth and incredibly intuitive, offering a quiet, steady comfort that Andrew needs – and likes – very much. And Clay begins to realise that the stern judge he’d met in the courtroom is a very different man from the Andrew he’s coming to know, a man with a tender heart and a vulnerability he keeps firmly under wraps.

It’s been a couple of days since the escape, and Grange is somehow managing to stay one step ahead of the police and is no nearer to being brought in when Andrew receives news that up-ends his already turned-inside-out life. His sister is in the hospital following a suicide attempt, and is in no state to take care of her two young children. There’s absolutely no question that Andrew is going to let Duane and Auburn be put into the foster system; no matter what else is going on in his life, he’s going to look after those kids and give them some badly needed stability. Clay is impressed – and touched – at Andrew’s willingness to suddenly assume responsibility for the kids, especially in light of the problems he’s already facing, and he’s not going to let him do it alone.

I admit that when I read the synopsis for Fire and Granite, I thought the storyline sounded a little similar to the previous book, which also involved a judge and a protagonist with young children. Fortunately, however, those similarities are mostly superficial and this story takes a very different direction. One of the criticisms I had of Fire and Flint was that the suspense plotline running in the background was too easily wrapped up; here, however, the fact that Andrew is being threatened means that storyline is more prominent – not overly so, but present enough that the danger Andrew and Clay are facing is never far away from the mind of the listener while the guys are falling in love and then finding their feet as de facto parents to two young children.

The chemistry between Clay and Andrew is undeniable, but their romance progresses very quickly; they’re exchanging ILYs after just a matter of days, so we’re in insta-love-land here. With that said, however, they’re so cute together and so supportive of each other that I could just about believe they’d fallen for each other in so short a time (I also suspect that the way the emotion between the pair is so strongly conveyed by Greg Tremblay helped to convince me!). There were, however, a couple of plot points I found harder to accept. Even though he hardly knew his cousin, would Clay have been allowed anywhere near a case involving a family member? And when we discover the deeper reasons behind Grange’s vendetta against Andrew, I had to ask myself if Andrew had acted correctly in presiding at his trial. I get that this is fiction, but both those things seemed a little tenuous.

So yes, there are a few fault-lines in the story, but there are none whatsoever in the narration, which will come as no surprise to anyone who’s ever listened to Greg Tremblay. I will almost always opt to listen to a book rather than read it if he’s narrating, because of the extra dimension he brings to what’s on the page. He imbues everything he narrates with a degree of realism that is achieved by few other performers; his delivery is always perfectly paced, characters are well-differentiated and characterised, and the emotions felt by those characters feel genuine and true to life. All those things are true of his performance here; the growing warmth and affection between Andrew and Clay is beautifully portrayed and I have to give a shout-out to his excellent renditions of Auburn and Duane, which are sufficiently childlike to be convincing without resorting to caricature.

An enjoyable addition to the Carlisle Deputies series, Fire and Granite is an undemanding though engaging romance with a dash of suspense, all wrapped up in another superb performance from Greg Tremblay.

This is book 2 in the series but read just fine as a standalone. There are lots of characters introduced and I felt at least a couple had had a story but it did not interfere in any way except to make me wish I had read their story as well.

Clay is assigned to help escort a deranged man to court when things go wrong and the man escapes. He is assigned to protect Judge Andrew when he begins receiving threats from the escapee. Clay and Andrew have a past of bumping heads in court.

Andrew wasn't pleased when the man assigned to protect him is the sexy but controlling Clay.
My advice to you is to clear enough time when you start this book to read it in one sitting. Once you start you will not want to put it down. The characters are interesting and realistic and the plot is intriguing and pulls you in and holds you tight. If you have read any Andrew Grey books you know how well written and page-turning they are. if you haven't you are in for a treat.

If you like mystery suspense, interesting characters, cute kids funny dogs and a charming romance you will love this!

I want the next story now!

After the excitement of a crooked judge brought to justice by his paralegal assistant and the sheriff’s deputy who investigates him, I was looking forward to another installment in what is turning out to be a series with some unusual characters and interesting plots. Andrew is a very strict judge under threat from a fugitive he put in prison, and Clay is the deputy assigned to protect him while pretty much everyone in Carlisle law enforcement tries to find and apprehend the man on the run. Add a few family complications, a romance with some personality issues, and more than one twist in the plot, and you have another thrilling adventure set in a town that feels more like home every time I read a book set in this world.

Andrew Grey knew what he was doing when he wrote this book. I have to say that all the suspense of not knowing what was going to happen and when kept me reading this book to the very end.

Andrew is a judge in his town and at the moment he is worried about the threats made on his life. One of the men that Andrew previously seen in his court has escaped and has made it very clear that he is after Andrew and will get him at all costs. So the police have placed a detective with Andrew to try and keep him safe until the convict is caught.

Clay is th dectective that is places to guard Andrew. Clay was not sure about being placed on this detail for a few reasons. First is the fact that when the man in question escaped, Harper, Clay was one of the officers that was escorting him to the courthouse for another appearance. Second Harper is a distant cousin of his from the side of the family that no one has anything to do with. So he did not want to be blamed for helping him in any sort of way. And third is, since he has known Andrew, he has been attracted to him. So maybe he is not the right person for this job.

Regardless of being the right person or not, clay has a job to do. When things start to really heat up with Harper and the threats he is making towards Andrew, Clay knows he will do whatever is needed to keep Andrew safe. And when Andrew’s niece and nephew is thrown into the works, Clay realizes the true meaning of “any means necessary”.

This book was a good read. There is a lot of action and even more suspense. Andrew Grey did an incredible job on this book. I loved every moment of everything going on in this book. I cannot wait till the next book in this series comes out so I can read it.

Audiobook review

3,5 stars rounded up for Tremblay

Each book in the Carlisle Deputies series can be read as a standalone as each book focuses on a new couple. The previous ones make appearances, but not to the point where you’ll feel left in the dark if you haven’t read their story. We are back in Carlisle and in the courtroom for this book - well kind of. At least in the sense that our first main character; Andrew Phillips is a judge. A judge whose life is threatened when a man he sentenced escapes from prison promises to come after him. He is less than thrilled with having a protection detail around the clock. And even less so when Clay Brown is added into that detail.

The two has some shared history, and working together causes tension to say the least, and when attraction is added to the mix the only question becomes who'll break first? Things get even more complicated when Andrew's sister is hospitalised and he's awarded temporary custody of his niece and nephew. And with a fugitive on the lose hell bent on revenge they have some tough times ahead.

As mentioned before Grey has a formula to his stories. The love between our two men are always sweet, almost always bordering on insta-love, with instant connection and inherit trust. And I'm sorry, I just don't believe in that, even though Grey tries so hard to make me. That doesn't mean I didn't or don't enjoy his books because I did and I do, but not to the point where I can't put them down or when I do a happy dance when I get a new one in my hands or ears. What I do appreciate is that his book are always quick and easy reads and don't require anything from the reader or listener. They are perfect brain candy when you just need something sweet, and in this case with some added suspense on top.

Greg Tremblay did it again. Just like the first book, his performance of this one is pure perfection beginning to end. He has it all the voices, the feelings and pacing. His voice is pure magic and I'll happily listen to anything that he says!

Audiobook provided by the publisher through Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words in exchange for an impartial review.

When Judge Andrew Phillips’s life is threatened by a criminal who escaped while being transported to prison, Sheriff’s Deputy Clay Brown steps up to protect Andrew 24/7 and each man learns the other is not who he thought he was. Neither man previously thought highly of the other, having been across the bench in the courtroom many times through the years. Andrew is not the cold hard persona he presents. And Clay is more than the stern-faced deputy with no personality Andrew perceived he was.

Harper, the criminal who escaped, is Clay’s cousin, not a close connection, but nevertheless, Clay has some insight into their family situation that helps with the case. In the meantime, just as Andrew finds his house has been ransacked by Harper, he receives a call telling him his sister’s depression is so severe she’s been hospitalized, and she’s named him guardian of her children. Though upset about his own situation, he rushes to her side.

And there is the basis for most of the story. As the men try to hide from Harper and both attempt to comfort the children, they stay with Clay, and both men discover they have feelings for one another. The ups and downs and dramatic turns in the story are mostly centered around Harper and his threatening texts to Andrew and Clay’s attempts to track him down. There is a small overlap with a few characters from the Carlisle Cops series as Clay works with Red and Carter and Andrew’s niece and nephew play with Carter and Donald’s little boy. I always enjoy seeing where other characters are in their lives when some time has passed.

One of the major issues that troubled me, however, is that Andrew revealed to Clay that he’d seen Harper in a park known to be a gay men’s hookup area prior to the trial, but he didn’t recuse himself from being judge. He stressed that he maintained impartiality but it seems to me that would have been a violation of ethics. The explanation didn’t sit well with me, especially since the convict was convinced Andrew had treated him poorly because of seeing him at the park.

The ending was as sweet as one would expect from an Andrew Grey story and all worked out well. Narrator Greg Tremblay was as outstanding as usual and gave me several lovely hours of listening pleasure. He doesn’t just read a story—he lives the story, adding drama and humor to the vocalizations where indicated, making his narration top notch.

Hey, hot cop!

I’ve really enjoyed this series so far… some maybe more than others, but anyone who follows any of my reviews, know that I’m such a sucker for hot dads, or….hot uncles even. In this one, we have Judge Andrew Phillips who’s being threatened by a criminal he had a few rocky run-ins with before finally making an example of him when sentencing him to prison… It seemed the felon didn’t take to kindly to the way the judge handled him or their run-ins, so when he planned an elaborate escape, he wanted revenge on the judge….

That’s where Officer Clay Brown comes in… now, this is where the water gets a little murky for me. See, Harper Grange – the felon that’s after Judge Phillips, is Clay’s cousin. Granted, they didn’t have much to do with one another’s sides of the family, even though their mothers are sisters… it still seemed like a huge conflict of interest or something… I understand that Clay is a cop and a good one too, but that’s his family… I would think that he’d be off any case pertaining to his family, and especially NOT the one and only one in charge of protecting the guy that his cousin is after. I can’t be the only one who thought that, can I?

But, if you can get over that fact… the hot cop wants to look out for Andrew, and watching them fall for one other is sweet and such a given… they’re so good for each other. Everything is so up in the air, waiting for more threats from the cousin and trying to hide out and be safe, and then Andrew gets some devastating news about his sister and her kids, making him need to jump in while everything is so crazy and take care of his niece and nephew.

They were adorable, and we all know how I feel about kids in stories… I know some don’t like it, but really… how can you not melt when somebody is so good with kids? Puppies and kids…. Throw the cold water over me, I’ll need it.

As these guys juggle a new relationship, learn how to be there for two kids who are suddenly without their mama, and a deranged lunatic just waiting to jump out and hurt you… it’s still such a sweet, somewhat angsty read. I’m looking forward to more!

And of course, we get our HFN, with snibbits from all the other hotties from this series.

4 stars from me on this one.

I’ll be upfront with y’all... I am not at very picky when it comes to romance novels. There are even some tropes that I love in romance novels that I can’t stand in other books, like one person in a couple being a bit overprotective. So I found this to be a quick, fun, enjoyable read but definitely not the best I’ve ever read. The pacing was weird in parts of this and there wasn’t quite enough conflict for my case. So much of this was waiting for something bad to happen with nothing that bad really ever happened. Still this was fun so if you are looking for something quick, this boom may work for you.

In this story we have a cute, cuddly dog, two nearly orphaned children, and some characters from other books in his Carlisle Cops series. I really like that the author doesn’t discard his characters from other books…but “recycles” them by bringing them into other stories so that the reader can visit these much loved characters again and again,. It’s wonderful to see how these men become good friends and help and support each other when one or the other is faced with small or enormous problems. Combined together it all makes for quite a lovely ride.

When a transfer leads to escape Harper isn't content with freedom. When Judge Andrew Phillips receives threatening calls and texts, its up to Carlisle Deputy Clay Brown to protect the judge. When all three men meet, will Clay be able to protect the lives of Andrew and the judge's niece and nephew? Will the connection the deputy and the judge form be safe too?

Once again the law enforcement of Carlisle comes to the rescue. Well, rescue might be a bit over dramatic, but they definitely do what they do best: protect, serve, and open their heart. I have to admit that after going up against a dirty judge in Fire and Flint, I was a bit skeptical about having a judge be one of the two main characters. That's not to say I expected all the judges in Carlisle to be dirty but I guess it was just so fresh in my reader's mind that I was leery. I needn't have worried(okay I wasn't worried I knew Andrew Grey would do the judge justice) because Andrew Phillips is definitely the kind of judge you want on the bench.

Speaking of the judge, Andrew is a complex man or at least he appears so at first because he is so "no nonsense" in the courtroom but he isn't quite as strict once he takes off the robes. Don't even get me started on how he is once his young niece and nephew enter the story. There is just something about a man who cares for children that gets me warm and fuzzy all over. Clay has his own family troubles that I won't go into because I don't want to spoil anything but I'll just say this: his deputy training definitely gets put to good use. I wouldn't tag Andrew and Clay's journey as "enemies to lovers" but they certainly don't fit the "friends to lovers" tag either, perhaps "butting-heads to lovers" 😉 Whatever tag you decide fits the duo best, it becomes pretty clear that the attraction they share fits the "Fire" part of the title.

If you are asking whether you need to read Fire and Flint or the author's Carlisle Cops series before Fire and Granite, my answer is probably not. There are mentions to what transpired in Flint but its done so if you haven't read it prior to starting Granite, you won't be lost. Personally though, I have to say I would highly recommend reading this series in order and maybe even Cops first. There is no real ongoing storyline other than being in the same area but the other characters and couples do appear from time to time and for me each new installment just flows better knowing their individual journeys but technically each one is a standalone. Whatever order you read these tales in, I can't recommend doing so enough because they are fun, entertaining, heartbreaking at times but always heartwarming and will put a smile on your face. What more can a reader ask for?

Good read

This book felt very derivative to me. How many more cops in Carlisle Pennsylvania can there be who are both gay, and who unexpectedly end up being responsible for small children?

Beyond that, I was expecting more conflict between Andrew and Clay in the beginning; I suppose that I anticipated an enemies to lovers theme and just didn't get it.

The story was solid, and I may have rated it better if I didn't have the expectation, and if this wasn't stretching the believability of the same situation happening again. I liked all of the characters in the book, and I liked the developments in the plot that kept me guessing, but felt natural and realistic.

I don't know if it's just me but this series seems to be super sappy and kind of ridiculous to me. Maybe it's just me. It wasn't horrible but I found myself cringing a bit at parts. The story itself was pretty good and I love seeing the boys from the other series so not a total loss. I'm sure I'll keep reading these but hopefully they'll seem less like a Siren romance by then.

Fire and Granit is the second book in the Carlisle Deputies series by Andrew Grey. The Carlisle Deputies series is a spin-off of the Carlisle Cops series, and we do get some cameos from the Carlisle cops which I enjoyed since I greatly enjoyed reading the Carlisle Cops series and it’s like getting to see old friends again. Fans of the Carlisle Cops series will definitely enjoy reading the Carlisle Deputies series, but you don’t have to read the Carlisle Cops series to read the Carlisle Deputies series.

I enjoyed the author’s easy reading style and the pacing of the book. The book was nicely written and detailed. I also enjoyed the plot even though Judges aren’t my favorite profession. They’re right up there with lawyers. There seem to be some good ones, but most seem to be corrupt or lord their power over you.

I’m glad to say that the Judge in this book is one of the good ones, but that doesn’t mean that he’s a pushover in the courtroom. He has a reputation for being hard but fair which doesn’t make him the most loved by the criminals that he’s sentenced. When one of the criminals that he sentenced escapes and threatens his life, he will be put under twenty-four/seven protection. Which he isn’t keen about but it would be tolerable if it were any deputy except Deputy Clay Brown. They have a past, and neither is happy that they have to work together, but the longer they’re forced to be together, the more they realize that their first impressions of each other might have been wrong or not necessarily wrong but that they are different than their professional personas. Clay realizes that Judge Phillips does have a heart and a softer side that he doesn’t show to everybody. And Judge Phillips realizes the same thing about Clay.

I loved their chemistry and how they have their mother’s terrible cooking in common. I also loved how Andrew ends up being responsible for his niece and nephew after his sister is admitted to the hospital. I also liked the secondary characters and how they’re included in the book for a reason instead of being one-dimensional filler characters. I thought the author did a great job handling the subject of depression and how it affected a single mom with kids and her brother who will be their guardian until she gets better—if she gets better. I also liked that the escaped prisoner is Clay’s cousin. I don’t know if every family has that weird and messed up cousin or uncle but I know that my family does, so I could really relate to that.

Overall, another great book by Andrew Grey and a great addition to the series.

The Judge and the Deputy… Two men who have only crossed paths in the courtroom… Come together after Harper Grange, an escaped convict, threatens the Judge’s life… Fire and Granite, Carlisle Deputies book 2, by Andrew Grey, places these fiery men together twenty-four/seven as the heat intensifies.

Judge Andrew Phillips is a tough, fair and dedicated Judge. Those that enter is courtroom know the law will be followed with little tolerance given for theatrics. Possessing a controlling nature, Andrew likes things neat and tidy with clear direction and purpose. The verdicts from his courtroom are absolute. His personal life has taken a back burner given his career focus and drive.

Deputy Clay Brown also likes to be in control. Clay takes his job seriously, giving each assignment his all. There is a soft and caring side to the stoic and “manly” Deputy, which shows when he cares for someone.

Fire and Granite opens with a harrowing and calculated escape scene that pulls us in to the suspense and action. Harper becomes a fugitive, deputies are injured, and a manhunt begins. Harper is one unstable individual harboring a grudge and channeling all his anger towards Andrew, the Judge who put him away.

Andrew and Clay have always reciprocated unspoken attraction and negative impressions for each other. Guided by Petey (Clay’s adorable corgi), and the circumstances of protective service forcing them to share the same living space, things quickly morph into an unexpected passion and bond that neither intends. Desired maybe, but did not expect.

Clay’s protectiveness ramps up as his life fills with the sudden addition of Andrew’s niece and nephew, Duane and Auburn. Clay knows without a doubt, he will do absolutely anything to protect the people that are quickly becoming his family and confiscating his heart.

Fire and Granite combines suspense, tension, love, and family (good and bad) into an action-packed adventure; pulling us along as secrets are revealed thus exposing the mystery behind the events. Along the way, a “family” that is formed out of necessity, solidifies into one of love that will stand the test of time as love triumphs over hate. Read as a standalone or as part of the series Fire and Granite is sure to be enjoyable.

Carlisle Deputy Clay Brown finds himself with an unusual assignment. He’s been assigned as part of the detail that’s transporting his estranged cousin Harper Grange from prison to court. Knowing how dangerous Grange is, Clay is on his guard, but something goes very wrong and Grange escapes.

Judge Andrew Phillips presided over Grange’s case, and now Grange is gunning for the judge and because of his familiarity with both Judge Phillips and Grange, Clay is assigned security duty for the judge. Andrew is a man who is always in control, he’s staunch and sticks to business, but he also considers himself honest and fair. Unfortunately for Andrew, he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and he keeps a secret about himself and Grange.

With Grange now on the loose, the threats are piling up against Andrew and the danger so great that if forces Clay to take Andrew into hiding. Andrew’s sister Mary becomes a danger to herself in the process, and he now has to take his young niece and nephew under his care. Even though Clay has a lot of the Carlisle Police Force in his corner, he takes Andrew, Auburn, Duane and Petey deeper into hiding where Andrew and Clay start to form a relationship. But, can it hold together as the threats keep coming and Grange gets closer?

Fire and Granite is another suspenseful and tension filled installment in the Carlisle Deputies series. The plot has plenty of danger and suspicious characters along with two sweet kids and a cute dog. Besides struggling with dangerous situations, Clay and Andrew have a growing chemistry and decisions to make about their relationship. Clay has no question in his mind that he and Andrew could make it as a family, but Andrew questions himself on the situation with his niece and nephew and what it would mean for their future. There’s also the contrasts of dysfunctionality in Clay’s and Andrew’s families, but there’s one very important thing that Andrew learns: there’s an amazing camaraderie with the Carlisle deputies and cops. He gets to meet Red, Carter and many others, and their partners and the families they’ve made along the way.

Fire and Granite is another in the long list of outstandingly written suspense/romance novels by Andrew
Grey. While this is part of a series it is easily read as a stand-alone novel, although there are backstories
and character developments that you may miss.
Andrew is a judge who has a crazy man named Harper after him. At one time, this man was sentenced
to prison by Andrew and he has harbored an intense hatred and uncontrolled desire to get revenge
against the judge. Exactly why is not known through most of the book but Harper is a looming menace
constantly. When Harper escapes custody Andrew has to go into hiding. Unfortunately this is about the
time that Andrew’s sister Mary loses touch with reality and has to be hospitalized, leaving her two small
children in Andrew’s care.
Clay is a deputy sheriff assigned to protect Andrew. His boss, the sheriff, is somewhat of an
uncooperative law enforcement officer. Clay and Andrew have a past that includes the two very
controlling men butting heads and not getting along at all. It doesn’t take long for this warped non-
friendship to drift into something else as Clay and Andrew begin to understand each other better. Clay
has a cute dog that he adopted and combining that dog and the kids into the story adds just enough
softness to the book to keep it from being all angst.
Clay, Andrew, and the children bounce from one place to another trying to stay hidden from Harper.
There is more to the story than just keeping Harper at bay but that isn’t revealed until near the end, so
be sure you have time to read all of the book. It just gets more and more exciting and then meltingly
endearing at the end. I’m looking forward to the next in this series!

Story:
This was a nice mix of suspense and romance with the two MC’s, Andrew and Clay, being forced to spend time together in dangerous circumstances.
Clay is called upon to protect Andrew from an escaped prisoner who’s bent on getting revenge on the judge who sentenced him to prison. To make matters even more dire, Andrew is also confronted with a family emergency and has to take care of his young niece and nephew while trying to stay out of harm’s way.
Clay and Andrew started off on the wrong foot, but they both quickly realize that they misjudged one another. I loved that the moment they start getting closer, they make it clear that “feelings” are involved and that it’s about matters of the heart, not just physical chemistry. So sweet!
The more action-filled and suspenseful part of the plot was well written and thought out, keeping me on edge throughout the story. The twist at the end caught me by surprise.
A big thank you should also go to Petey, Clay’s amazing and brave little Corgi, for being the best wingman ever and helping to keep his humans out of trouble!

Narration: Greg Tremblay is such an amazing narrator! I loved what he did with this story and the characters. His voice has such a warm and pleasant timbre and he did a wonderful job with all the voices, including those of the women and children. He really knows how to bring out the emotions of the characters. There was one scene in particular, a conversation between Andrew and his sister where he brought tears to my eyes with his performance. Brilliantly done.

This was another great book in this spin off series from Carlisle Cops series. I will be happy to read more and have to say didn't see the person behind it coming.

Andrew is the judge that put Clay's cousin away. Harper is a sore spot in Clay's family and a thorn in Andrew's side. Andrew and Clay both want to be in charge which is why they head but all the time when they are in court together. However, Clay agrees to protect Andrew when the Sheriff calls him to do so.

The arrangement ends up with Andrew staying with Clay. One reason is Harper won't be able to find him there as easily and the second is Petey who is Clay's doggie and he's adorable. Andrew lets him bring him to work and the sweet little guy by the end of the book steals Andrew's desk chair lol.

Things go kind of slow at first and mostly have threatening phone calls and texts. Clay knows that his aunt and uncle will know more and eventually they do get a break thanks to Clay remembering something. In the mean time Andrew takes in his niece and nephew and to keep them safe they take a vacation. His sister is sick and even at the end of the book Clay and Andrew still have the kids.

I really was happy on how this went and the top dog behind how Harper got out and the drug tie backs from the past and even now surprised me. I honestly thought it was Clay's aunt doing so much of it, but it wasn't.

I was also overjoyed that in the epilogue Clay proposed and we found they were already living together. Definitely another great book in this series.

Another Andrew Grey book I absolutely fell in love with! I love his style and the way he delivers a story that just goes right to my heart, and Andrew and Clay definitely did just that!

Clay is a Sheriff’s Deputy who wants to protect, Andrew is a judge who doesn’t put up with any nonsense, what he says goes. But when a crazy and dangerous criminal escapes, he starts making threats towards Andrew and Clay is assigned to protect the prickly judge. But at these two start to spend time together, Clay quickly sees Andrew isn’t as prickly outside the courtroom. The two get close as Clay does everything he can to protect Andrew and make him feel safe but just as things start to feel okay, another bombshell is dropped in their laps and now Andrew is taking care of his niece and nephew while trying to hide from the crazed wanted man.

I thought this story was exciting and sweet and I couldn’t put it down. The chemistry between these two is great, but there is also genuine heart and caring between them. I loved seeing both guys with the kids, learning how to care for them. There was the perfect mix of action and romance and once again proved why I adore Andrew Grey’s books! I enjoyed the twists and turns, just enough to keep me guessing and finally a perfect ending! A definite must read!

Fire and Granite is book 2 in Andrew Grey’s Carlisle Deputies series, which is a spin-off of his Carlisle Cops series. You may be able to read this book as a standalone, or this series, but in my opinion, is more enjoyable because all the characters are familiar. And, I think this one, more than the previous book in this series, involved characters from Carlisle Cops and I enjoy seeing those characters reappear. So, do what works best for you (read them in order, lol)!

Let me tell you a secret here, I love Andrew Grey books. Not much of a secret if you read my reviews of his books. They are a perfect mix of romance, sex and happy ever after. I think his characters are normal people living their lives and lucky to find love. For me, these are what true romance books are made of.

Clay is a deputy and when a fugitive escapes, he’s assigned to protect Judge Andrew Phillips, who has drawn the attention of said escaped fugitive. Clay and Andrew only have a superficial relationship within the confines of the courtroom but when they’re thrown together in this situation, the barriers Andrew has erected to hide his attraction to Clay don’t remain. But, Andrew has a lot more than just the fugitive to worry about. His sister’s mental health issues come to a head and he ends up as caretaker of his niece and nephew.

Both men are hard-working and know what they want from life. Clay is more flexible and easily goes with the flow. Andrew struggles a little when things are not kept in their neat places and has to work harder to accept the changes happening in his life. Though at first, both men aren’t close, you see the closeness and relationship building when the masks come down. I thought Andrew and Clay were both easy to love characters. My one concern with this book, and all books by Andrew Grey is how the MC’s get children. First, let me say, I love that his books involve children. I love seeing his characters interact with children and make them a part of their life. I think when done well, it changes the book and shows different sides to the characters. But, as soon as I find out that one of Andrew’s characters has a sibling with a child/children, I know what’s coming. Siblings with children do not fare well in Andrew Grey’s books, lol. Though I give him credit in this one, the sister didn’t die but she didn’t have her children anymore. Think of the siblings. ;)

Despite the treatment of siblings, I still love Andrew Grey books and this one is no exception! There is action in this book in the hunt for the fugitive and eventual capture. There’s a beautiful HEA with two men who deserve it. And some of my favorite characters from previous books make an appearance, which I enjoy immensely! Make sure to grab the books in this series and the spin-off, shut yourself away from all distractions and enjoy some sweet, sweet romance.

Wow this started with a bang as Clay, one of heroes finds himself in the middle of jailbreak. I had my eyes peeled from that moment on. I can safely say that I wasn’t expecting action to start quite so soon!

The author has also managed to drop hints about Clay’s past which only intrigued me more.

Jail break turns out to have reaching consequences as the prisoners threatens judge Andrew and Clay is assigned to protect him.

Clay and Andrew don’t like each other but it doesn’t stop them from lusting after one another. I love a little tension mixed with desire between heroes. The story moves along nicely and the dog was simply adorable. Once they are forced in close proximity Andrew and Clay discover they have things in common so their relationship develops naturally.

I was less impressed with second part of the book, Andrew’s family emergency and Clay’s absolute acceptance. It seemed like too much too fast so it ended up a bit unrealistic for me. It is however, written well and didn’t deter me from reading.

So if you’re on a hunt for exciting book without much angst with solid relationship development, this is a good choice.

I received copy of this book in exchange for review.
