Designed with students, for students and now shortlisted for the British Book Design and Production Awards 2019! Eight steps, two pathways, one book. The Fifth Edition of the bestseller Research Methodology has reimagined, redesigned, and fully renovated how a textbook can help students achieve success in their methods course or research project. Eight Foolproof for any beginner researcher, the book breaks the process of designing and doing a research project into achievable stages. It delivers students from research problem to their written research report at the pace they need, with clear explanations, DIY tasks and study skills support.
In a new landscape format it presents figures, models and visualizations elegantly, so they don′t break over a page, making even complex concepts easier to understand. Two With an innovative, beautiful design, regular progress checkpoints have been built into the book and its online resources. As students proceed through the 8 steps, each chapter provides regular opportunities for students to check understanding or give themselves a challenge. Each pathway then gives them the resources they need. With this one book, every student gets what they need to succeed. It is the perfect essential text for students and beginner researchers across the social sciences.
Research Methodology: A Step-By-Step Guide for Beginners (Paperback) by Ranjit Kumar is the perfect book for those of us who are starting to get involved with research! It starts by setting the background and explaining the different types of research. Then, it covers all the steps to conduct and to design a study; it explains these steps thoroughly and provides appropriate examples. The terminology is suitable for beginners, so its reading is not complex at all. I´ll be using it for undergraduate students of an EFL Teacher Training Programme who will be carrying out their graduate papers this year. It will be an immense addition to the course.
Liked the writing style. written specifically for students with no previous experience of research and research methodology. Step-by-step guide for beginners.
This book is the reference for the course. The paper used is the thick one, similar to plain A4 paper, which is not the usual thin paper (which can tear up easily) used by other international textbooks. Compared to Salkind, this book is more understandable because the language is simple and straight to the point. The author highlights the main ideas, and examples are provided for each concept. There are abundant of mind maps, graphs and charts to ease the student’s understanding which is extremely helpful. Other books that I have used, they are too narrative. I usually got lost when doing the reading.
The back part, the author writes how to do research proposal step-by-step. For example, he mentions about what items we should include in the Introduction and then, he gave 4 examples.
Exercises are provided at the end of all chapters. Why didn’t he provide at the end of every chapter? It is easier though. I did not realize the presence of the exercises until I finished final exam. Lol.
But, I have a slight problem when there is a thing that I have learnt in class but this book does not provide it. The topic was ‘Unobstrusive Research’. I have to rely on class notes and slides and Mr. Google.
It's very important to any postgraduate student with quantitative or qualitative research to study this book. This book is showing the research methodology from A to Z; starting from the idea of research, moving to the theoretical understandings of the approaches and methods, and not ending with the step-by-step guides and notes. To me, this book was very helpful to do my research due to the examples and simplified methods included. Not recommended to the postgraduate students in the computer science or engineering.
This was an obligatory literature at my first year of postgraduate studies at the University of Maribor. It is perfect for everyone with no previous research experience. It is written in simple, understandable language and it really helped me get started with my research proposal.
Very good overview of research design. I appreciated the emphasis on mixed methods and the comparisons between qualitative and quantitative designs. Too many US research courses are statistics-focused and leave out the planning. Kumar covers everything from planning a research problem, to research design, selecting instruments and samples to the collecting and processing of data. A great primer.
This publication seemed quite detailed and informative. It provided fundamental knowledge related to basic research skill in social sciences. Ranjit Kumar made a good effort in compiling this publication. Overall, it seemed quite essential and basic. Steps and examples were provided, and in general, this seemed like a worthwhile publication, also, it is able to bring positive experience to the audience for its well-composed content.
I wouldn’t usually count a text book in my reading but considering I read it front to back cover I thought I would! This was a pretty well written textbook, with a lot of useful examples and explanations. Wasn’t the worst text book I’ve ever had to read so definite positive from me!
Easy to read, and a good introduction to research methodology for beginners. However, it should be read in conjunction with the RM textbook by C R Kothari. On its own, it misses a lot of important concepts.
Didn't read the whole thing since it was for school. It had potential and the style that it's presented in helps to make it easier to understand, but the overall writing is rather dull.
A good guide for helping the new researcher keep themselves grounded, on task and productive. There are a plethora of texts that help the new researcher plan to succeed. This text went beyond the basics, and was like having a mentor. Each section contained a small gem that went beyond just the basics. If you are starting out in research, this text is a useful friend to have.
Its a good book, however the reason I gave it 3 stars is that it is mostly geared towards social sciences. It would have been better if it even had just a small section about scientific reports/papers.
Bener-bener bagus for beginners. Cara penjelasannya mudah dipahami, cukup komprehensif untuk memahami metodologi penelitian, dan ketebalan bukunya tidak mengintimidasi :-)
Brightest research methodology book I've ever read. It was nice to read a book that didn't look like it was published in the 1990s. It was greatly appreciated.
