In this great new collection of books, Mr. Barton’s trademark vibrant illustrations are paired with a colorful text perfectly suited to youngsters learning to identify objects, shapes, and colors. 1996 ‘Pick of the Lists’ (ABA)

2.5 stars. This book about dinosaurs has a couple of words on each page with bright simple illustrations. There's not much information on dinosaurs other than their differences but I can imagine this working well as a board book for babies. The dinosaurs are quite cute and there's a nice illustration of some going to sleep.
With colorful and simple illustrations and basic text, this appealing book is a fantastic introduction to dinosaurs. End papers help adults identify the different dinosaurs for their youngsters.
I saw a question about what made you fall in love with dinosaurs and for me it was this book so I had to go looking for it on my shelf and give it another read. It's very basic, as some of the reviews have disparagingly said. It's no doubt for wee little children just learning to read but it has the potential to spark a love of dinosaurs. And it has adorable illustrations!

I would not recommend this book to any child above the age of one or two. The pictures, while full of color, and not captivating to look at and they lack details that could’ve added to the storyline. In regards to the story… it is boring. All it does it state basic characteristics that dinosaurs might’ve had. The text is very repetitive, and does not really teach the child anything new. The colors used are not realistic either, as the ground is painted pink and the sun bright orange. The book could’ve been more interesting if the author added more details about the life of a dinosaur beyond their simple physical appearances. A child who is learning to read might benefit from seeing words over and over again, but most readers would be bored. I wish the story was more intriguing. If you have a child who is interested in dinosaurs or the history of the world, I would recommend finding another book to capture their attention.
MAB5m enjoyed this and so did I! The pictures managed to be both cute and somewhat educational? And I loved having the real names of of the dinos at the back of the book. We have a 2nd hand copy of this and might have to buy a new one... I think it will be a favorite. It also had a few more pages it seemed than many of her other board books.
This is a great storytime read. While the story is a little simple for preschool and older, it's a great one for the toddler crowd. Dinosaurs, big bold pictures, and bright colors are all good features. We had fun both naming the dinosaurs, and naming colors and matching them to different things in the room.
Great dinosaur title for the youngest children with colorful illustrations that depict diffences in dinosaurs, some with horns, some with clubs on their tails, some with armored mates, and more differences. Wonderful that these are computed illustrations which do not look like computer illustrations! Copyrighted 1989.
Not much here other than bright colors and bold shapes to catch the eyes of tiny tots. The illustrations look like they were done in Magic Marker, and the information is very simple--tall dinos and small dinos, hungry dinos and sleepy dinos.
"Dinosaur, Dinosaurs" is a fun book that shows the different types of dinosaurs. The illustrations are simple yet vibrant. This is very important in order to engage the readers. The book is great at showing a variety of different dinosaurs. Reading Level: Pre-Reader
I love the triceratops, I like to call them the "tops!" I also love counting the clubs, horns, and spikes on the dinosaurs' bodies. When the dinosaurs felt sleepy, I made a connection to myself! I was also sleepy!
I actually really enjoyed this. The pictures are simple with solid colors, and instead of saying, "millions of years ago," the author just says a long time ago. I really appreciated that. Fun dinosaur book!
I think this book would be a great book for children in younger grades as it has simple words with simple spelling while still being educational about dinosaurs. I would have this book in my classroom if I was teaching kindergarten but that would be it.
I like how this book generalizes dinosaurs into their physical characteristics ("there were dinosaurs with sails on their backs"). This is an easy entry into dinosaurs where you can appreciate them without having to know their names.
This is a great book for beginnign readers. The words are in large print and at a lower level. The illustrations are bring and colorful to keep the reader engaged in the book. I enjoyed this book because I like dinosaurs.
Bright, colorful illustrations with incredibly basic text giving a brief introduction to dinosaurs. Decent read, but there are many more entertaining books out there.
A cute little dinosaur book that Aidan (age 5) picked out from the library. It's a little simplistic, but good for pre-literate kiddos for that reason. He likes dinosaurs!
