Eduardo “Lucky” Morales is a fighter, from his childhood days in Cuba to his time as a Special Forces Green Beret. Scarred by the wars of his past, Lucky has learned nothing lasts forever. Guarding his heart is second nature, and getting emotionally involved is not an option. As co-owner of Four Kings Security, Lucky works hard alongside his former brothers-in-arms and fellow Kings, but he also plays hard. Flirting with sexy Texas cowboy and detective, Mason Cooper, is too much fun to resist, until Mason turns the tables on him.

Mason Cooper may not be a soldier, but he’s fought his share of battles as an openly gay cop and now a detective for Major Crimes. Mason has no idea when things changed between him and Lucky, but the gorgeous, fiery Cuban has turned his world upside down. When a mistake leads to his suspension from the force, Mason turns to the least likely person for help: Ward Kingston.

Determined to keep Mason at arms’ length, Lucky is surprised to find the man at Four Kings Security. The Florida nights might be getting cooler, but the heat between Lucky and Mason burns hotter with every passing moment. Working private security can be dangerous and unpredictable, but so can falling in love.

Re-read 9/26/19 .... still awesome !!!

5hj

I have been dying to read this book ever since I met Lucky and Mason in "Love in Spades". The sneak peek we got in "Be Still my Heart" only made my impatience worse... I had a feeling their book was gonna be explosive, especially in the sexy way, and I  love it when I am right !!!

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor because I'm clever gif

I was a bit worried that things would be awkward...with Mason being Ace's ex and all, but there was absolutely no need. It was pretty obvious that Mason and Lucky were just meant to be...and that Ace is still an awesome friend. It must be so great to be part of "The Kings" family. I know that's how Mason felt.

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1517

The steam, as I expected, was delicious... Two alpha personalities going at it, so yummy. Mason had quite the dirty mouth on him...he even managed to make Lucky blush ;)

"Yeah, oh is right. O, as in I want to rim that tight little hole of yours until you are coming apart for me. I want to fuck you with my tongue."

QjUgDih.gif (300×168)

So far this has been my favorite book in the series, but we still have King's story to come and I am sure his book will also be EPIC. Thankfully we won't have to wait too long for that one... Well that's a lie actually because each day I have to wait is a day too long :P

This book was sweet, hot and funny with the right amount of mystery/suspense. I would advise reading these books in order since they have a bit of a continuing timeline and recurring characters.

Highly recommended !!!

3.5 Stars!

Definitely my favorite of the bunch so far, minus the short Ante Up, this for me had a more reasonable progression with no extra unnecessary fluff.

Mason and Lucky have been circling each other for what seems like forever, and there’s all sorts of reasons and excuses that have kept them apart. Mason has deep dark secrets, unable to feel worthy enough to have happiness, with the added not-bonus of having had a relationship with Lucky’s cousin Ace, who is now happily forever entwined with Colton from Love in Spades. Lucky gets around a lot, never really wanting or feeling the need to become attached because of own tough sad past. Regardless, he can't get Mason off his mind, just like Mason can't stop thinking of him in return.

Work circumstances inadvertently make it possible for these two to team up, and close quarters seem to be just the nudge to scratch that cursed itch lightening quick. Of course, though Lucky and Mason deny their feelings - feelings that have been around for so long they were almost getting moldy waiting on these two yahoos to get their shit together, they are so much more easily expressed through “action” rather than words.

Plenty smexy, lots of push pull, this continued to expand on the fun funny family dynamics regarding this ex-military group of friends who work and play hard together. Ultimately, Mason’s past comes back to wreak havoc, and it’s always a good thing to have Lucky and the gang at one’s back just so things are put into perfect perspective.

This really sets things up for what I hope will be the penultimate pairing, as the ending gave the best teaser ever - please see Cochet’s Pinterest page to enjoy all the goodness. I cannot wait for King’s story!

I was grinning like a loon for most of the time. Gawd these two! So adorable. Loved Mason & Lucky even more the second time around.

Pity that there is still no sign of a book for Ryden & Jay but I heard rumors they are getting theirs in the new "Runaway Grooms" series and other beloved characters from the Four King universe. *fingers crossed!!

"King had a PowerPoint presentation, Lucky!"

That scene was hilarious, oh sweet little Tommy. I laughed so hard! A lot of times, actually. 😂 The audiobook was beyond enjoyable.

Five stars for Greg Boudreaux’s narrating performance alone! A Spanish accent, a southern accent and different British ones… and all the characters he gave so very recognisable voices. It was incredible. Again.

As for the story: I found the main story a tiny bit lame but I was very invested in Mason’s background story as well as Lucky’s. And I hope we see more of Ryden in a future book (or maybe there is already one… I need to research that). All in all it was again a very entertaining book. The whole king-family and everyone who belongs to it, they are all just so very lovable.

That being said, on to the next and last one in this series…
After this epilogue I’m totally excited for King’s story!

When I started this I was quite confused. I know I read the second book, but some details about Lucky, Mason and some Oscar were a little murky. Unfortunately things were not recapped in this book. I figured out what was going on near the end I think. While it wasn’t super important for the story, it did result in me being a bit confused what the actual problem was between Mason and Lucky.

And that’s why I was quite convinced this would not be a winner for me. But then around 60% I suddenly found myself totally engrossed in the story. And I ended up enjoying it a great deal actually.

Lucky and Mason have been dancing around each other for quite a while, but neither is ready to give into the other.

When Mason accepts a temporary job with the Kings, he and Lucky are forced to work close together. And it’s not long before they both acknowledge that they can’t stay away from each other…

As I mentioned, I had a hard time understanding the angst between Mason and Lucky at first. I couldn’t quite figure out why they were so set against a relationship. But things improved once they got their heads out of their ass. And once the rest of the Kings started to show up and play bigger roles, I was enjoying this quite a lot more.

The sexy times were very sizzling and we even got some dirty talk!

One thing that felt very unrealistic to me was why Mason accepted a temporary position with the Kings. I think that could have been a bit smoother. Or have Mason think about approaching King a bit longer. Now it was clearly that there had to be some reason to get Mason to work together with Lucky and apparently this was the quickest way. Now that was just too sudden for me to really believe in it.

So even though this had a rocky start for me, I ended up enjoying this anyway. Especially when Mason and Lucky got together after they stopped being so stubborn.

1/3/23 - still love this couple so much. This series is just my ultimate comfort re-read, along with Hitman's Guide.

I LOVE this series!

This is the first series I have basically "read" for the first time by listening to the audiobook versions, and I think it has really helped bring the characters to life and make me love this series even more than I would have if I were just reading it. Greg Bordeaux does such an amazing job with the voices, accents, all the interactions and joking, it literally makes me LOL in my car.

This is Mason and Lucky's story - and I knew it would be intense, and it was! The chemistry between these two is FIRE, and I loved reading about them overcoming their fears about relationships and love with each other. They just fell into love so easily once they really started spending time together, and I loved all their sweet and sexy moments together. I also loved how Mason found his family with the Kings, how he finally found what he was meant to be doing in life, and found the right man for himself.

As always, Ace is hilarious (the whole "smell my fingers" bit was hilarious), I loved seeing him and Colton, and Red and Laz...I love all of these couples. I love the new characters introduced in this story (setting up some things for the spin-off series, yay!) And, of course, that epilogue with King? Cannot WAIT for his story!

If you're looking for a series with some laughs, fast-paced action, couples that have insanely good chemistry together, I definitely recommend this one!

This third novel in the Four Kings Security series was a fun, sexy, and engaging read. It was perfectly paced and well-written, full of heart and humour, featuring a large cast of loveable support characters and a main couple that left me hot and bothered, and positively swoony when all was said and done.

This was a prime example of the Charlie Cochet I know and love.

An inevitable relationship has been a long time coming between Lucky, Cuban ex-pat and founding member of the Four Kings, and Mason, once-a-cowboy, now-a-detective with a troubled past. These two have some seriously tangible chemistry, but due to personal hang-ups and a shared belief that neither are long-term relationship material, they both put a lot of energy into channeling their attraction into snark and sass, riling each other up at every opportunity instead of facing the truth of their feelings.

When Mason gets suspended from his job pending an IA investigation, he seeks out the Four Kings for some work to keep him busy in the interim. There he gets partnered on a few jobs with Lucky, and through forced proximity, the two soon fall into bed, sharing passion between the sheets, all while working well on the jobs assigned them and learning about each other on a deeper level. They soon realise that denying their feelings is no longer an option, but going all in proves difficult when secrets from Mason’s past come back to haunt him and puts his life in danger.

I was a bit worried that Lucky and Mason’s story would be a bit too incestuous for me, specifically relating to Mason once being heavily involved with Lucky’s cousin Ace. Thankfully, this past connection didn’t bother me too much, probably due to the fact that Ace is already firmly established in his own relationship with Colton and seems to fully support the idea of his cousin and his ex being together.

The chemistry between Lucky and Mason was off the charts! Their sexy-times were next level, and although I felt their physical relationship began a little too quickly within the story, I couldn’t stay frustrated for long considering just how explosive they were together.

I appreciated how some of the story elements from earlier books were finally given closure. I also loved the epilogue, written through King’s perspective – it left me chomping at the bit to start book four.

My only complaint is in regards to the opening chapter which left me feeling a little scattered and confused. I didn’t understand why Lucky and Mason were initially being so quarrelsome and combative over some past event that was reading as if I should have known the circumstances when I clearly did not. Aside from that one issue, I enjoyed the hell out of this story – going so far as to say it was my favourite of the series (to date).

I was excited to start Join the Club and finally getting to know Lucky and Mason after all their bickering in the past.

After a mistake at work Mason is suspended and instead of wallowing at home, he ask’s King if he can work for Four Kings temporarily and of course King teams him up with Lucky.

Working together in such close proximity it does not take them long to tear each other’s clothes off and get hot and sweaty.

These two together are super cute touchy feely with sweet endearments.

This story is full of heat, action and fun.

As with the previous books in this series it is the banter between Ace, King, Lucky, Red, Jack and Joker that makes these books special for me I would love to work in their office, but I would spend most of my days crying with laughter.

I loved the epilogue that was a twist it was FANTASTIC and now I am dying to get to know King even better.

Love in Spades is a dual POV romance with lots of action and hot and sexy times, great humor, some suspense, little angst, and a jaw-dropping ending. I love the epilogue, which is actually the teaser for the next book, Diamond in the Rough, which will center around King, and looks like it's going to be really, really good.

The story is my favorite so far in the series but I loved it even more in audio. Once again Greg Tremblay (under his sexier Boudreaux brand) does a phenomenal job. Great character voices, his timing and pacing is on point, he finesses the humor, emotional, and action elements equally well, and is simply a pleasure to listen to.

This is a fun listen! Hell, the whole series has been nothing but delightful to listen to. Greg Tremblay is at the top of his game and is so smooth in his delivery it makes the time fly by while listening to this.

Take my advice, if you like action with your romance, a lot of heat, with a sprinkling of humor, and a great ending? Grab this book now.

Absolutely recommended.

We are back with the Kings, the tight knit group of ex-Special Forces. Join the Club is the story of Lucky and Mason, the cowboy Detective, who is also Ace's ex-boyfriend. From previous books, we knew that Lucky and Mason had something going on and their flirting is very obvious to everyone. I forgotten about the drama that cause them to be pissed at each other and at the beginning of this book, they haven't been in contact for 2 months. Suffice to said, things progress really fast as per the style of the last book. From not talking for 2 months, they reluctantly thrown together for an assignment and proceed to fuck within hours. I guess I have to just roll with it.

Mason was suspended from his job due to a minor mistake on his part and he decided to take up some freelance work with the Kings. It seems to me Kings treat him as someone permanent, telling him all about the company and whatnot. I'm actually skeptical about the whole thing. Can a police detective actually work freelance while being suspended?

Lucky and Mason get together rather quick after reunited again, there isn't much sexual tension, but plenty of chemistry. I wonder why did Mason and Ace broke up, what makes Lucky different that Mason manage to be true to himself and reveal his dark past. Part of the drama towards the end is about Mason's past coming back to haunt him.

Overall, Join the Club had a similar tone to the previous two books, some really hot sex, great camaraderie between the guys, Ace is crazy as ever and some suspense. Right now, I can't wait for King's story. The stuck up bossman is the most fascinating character the series.

Lucky and Mason for the win 🥰

I’ve been looking forward to their story, and they didn’t disappoint. But before I get into details, shout-out (again) to Greg Boudreaux, who’s living up to his reputation of being one of the best narrators out there. In this book, he switched from Spanish and Spanish accent to Texan drawl to „neutral“ to British English, and I knew EXACTLY who was speaking at every point. Absolutely amazing, and worth every minute of listening. So when in doubt, definitely get the audio.

Lucky, who’s originally from Cuba, isn’t one for relationships, and he tries very hard to stay away from Mason- not only because he’s Ace’s ex (Ace is the MC fun book 1), but because he’s more than attracted to the handsome cop. But when circumstances throw them together for a while (Mason gets suspended for a while because of a really stupid reason and starts working at King Security), he gives in. First one time, then a second, and soon enough they can’t keep their hands off each other.

Luckily there’s no major crime case to be solved here, because as I said before, a mystery writer this author is not. But I loved the banter, and their steamy scenes, and I LOVED the epilogue where King took down the despicable photographer who raped Laz (from book 2).

4 well deserved stars for a very entertaining book with a stellar narrator - not quite 5 because the plot itself was a bit predictable.

Usually Charlie Cochet is a hit or a miss for me in terms of this series. And I'm so happy I ended up liking this one. It might actually be my favorite so far.

This book is about Mason and Lucky and it's everything you would expect it to be and more. I also absolutely love the rest of the Kings and how they act as a family. Everything just reminds me of how I would love to have a family like that and it's such a joy to read that.

I'm so thrilled that the next book is King's. I need it now!!

Join the Club is Lucky and Mason's book. I was really looking forward to this romance, based on their interactions in the previous books. And yeah, the author totally pulled it off. This was a lot of fun. Luck and Mason have great banter throughout, and there was the perfect amount of angst and drama to keep things interesting.

The plot in this one was a bit meh, but it didn't get in the way of the romance so that's all I can ask for.

Greg Boudreaux narrates this series and he does an amazing job as usual.

Apparently I missed one. I remember listening to this one and I did enjoy it, maybe not quite as much as the first two books but it was still a fun few hours and as always Greg Tremblay was awesome. So go figure I guess this is what happens when you get caught up in the reading and the listening...some things get missed.

I absolutely adored this. I loved this just as much, if not more, than the first book. Lucky and Mason were freaking amazing together, their chemistry was off the charts and I loved every bit of their scenes together. I loved this book.

This picks up about two months after Lucky and Mason have that fight that we don't get to be privy too in Red and Laz's book outside Bibi's cafe. We do learn a little of what it was about and exactly why they were fighting, and then it picks up 2 months later when Mason gets suspended from his job because he forgot to list the cold medicine he was taking in a drug test with the force. It comes up as positive in his drug test - because the cold medicine had codeine in it.

Mason, not wanting to spend a month or more with however long it takes to get him off suspension doing nothing, alone with his thoughts, asks for a temporary job at Four Kings Security, and King says yes.

Mason's first job is with Lucky and it doesn't take long for the tension simmering between them to explode (in deliciously sexy, hot ways ;)).

I absolutely adored these two, and not only were their sex scenes SCORCHING, but their romance was amazing as well. The way they trusted each other, enough to let go, or just talk to each other about things they don't talk about with anyone else, the way they made each other laugh, how they could just hang out and never be bored, and so on.

It took Lucky awhile to give in and give their relationship a shot, but once they do, they're pretty damn solid. There was no unnecessary drama for the sake of drama. I think the drama, anyway, was in these two admitting they wanted more than sex and that it was serious. It took a while for them to admit it (mostly with Lucky, but Mason too.)

There was a little bit of drama outside of their relationship having to do with Mason's past, but it wasn't too big of a thing, and it all worked out okay. It could have felt unnecessary, but I do think it helped Mason because of what happened in his past (and Ryden, the son of the guy that is tied to Mason's past that I won't spoil) and I feel like Ryden could possibly be part of a future couple...who knows, though. Maybe not. We'll see, though.

Mason and Lucky's HEA felt earned and I was here for and I loved it and adored this book every step of the way. Two big thumbs up from me, this is a strong one from Cochet. HIGHLY recommend if you've been reading this series and enjoying it.

Lucky and Mason aren't a couple to miss.

Edit to add a P.S.: I was wrong in my previous review of Be Still My Heart when I said I thought Gio would be King's LI (He's not, he's gonna be Joker's. Oops :P)

I enjoyed this book way more than the previous ones in the series even though the dialogue and some intimate scenes were slightly flowery at times. I was curious about Mason from the beginning, and here we finally get the full story and what exactly shaped him to become the man he is now - honest, brave and honorable. Lucky also surprised me - I kind of considered him slightly conceited and a little shallow but after getting to know him I saw what caring and giving person he was. All of the Kings and their friends featured in this story to some degree and I loved their banter and jokes. This book was at times very funny, at times sweet and passionate and also full of action.

Various assignments finally showed exactly how Kings' company operated, their work ethics and overall competence. I loved reading about day-to-day squabbles and activities. The ending was slightly dramatic but very emotional. I loved the choices Mason and Lucky made and how they chose to be better men and help and provide instead of being spiteful and vengeful. It just showed that there are decent people in the world and Kings and their family can be considered among them. So I highly recommend this book! Loved it! BTW, epilogue is a set up for the next book. I liked that too surprisingly.

P.S. One thing I want to throw out there in the world is the fact that everybody in this book is way too good-looking and always perfect. The description of Frank (Sapphire Sands club owner) with his chiseled features, towering height and perfect body was kind of a letdown for me. I would love more characters with a little imperfections in them. I mean even a mole or slightly chipped tooth would do.

"For Ward King, the role of protector, forged by fire and tragedy, is one he takes very seriously"
Like the first two books in this wonderful series, this one has a sense of humor that you wouldn't expect, characters you can't help but love and root for, a really hot romance and good side plots.

Eduardo “Lucky” Morales is a fighter, he has been ever since his childhood days in Cuba to his time as a Special Forces Green Beret. He's "scarred" emotionally and physically by the wars of his past, Lucky has learned that nothing lasts forever, so guarding his heart is second nature to him, and getting emotionally involved with anybody other than his "brothers" is not an option.

Mason Cooper was not a soldier, but he’s still fought his share of battles. First as an immigrant and then as an openly gay cop and a detective for Major Crimes. Mason has no idea when things changed between himself and Lucky, but the gorgeous, fiery Cuban has managed to turn his world upside down. A mistake leads to "Lucky's" temporary suspension from the force, so he turns to the least likely person for help: Ward Kingston, the head of Four King's Security...who is more than willing to give him a position until he finds out if he can return to the police department. Finding Mason at Four Kings is a surprise, but he can keep the guy at arm's length...sure he can:), but this might be easier said than done, since he's been assigned to work with the "object of his attraction". They soon find that working private security may be dangerous and unpredictable but so can falling in love.

There were many times that I just wanted to smack their heads together so that they would just get on with what every reader of this series knew was going to happen. Overall, it was just good reading, and no head smacking had to take place:)

Ok, ok. Hello! Is this a new thing? Please let it be a new thing. This book opened on my Kindle AT THE COVER!!! I don’t know about you or your idiosyncrasies, but one of mine, I have to flip back, why do I have to flip back, and start the book from the cover. This book freaking opened up right on the cover! Woot!

Unfortunately, that was probably my favorite part of the book. I liked the book, I did, it just had some problems.

First and foremost, I felt like I was dropped into the third chapter or something or maybe I missed a book. I didn’t. This story started out after a fight. Ok, so, once I finished I realized that the epilogue of the last book was the set up for this book. But guys, I didn’t remember. So, I have kind of struck out the first issue, kind of. I still felt like I was dropped into an already in progress story but now I know why.

Next! The setup. What? This just seemed so contrived. Take the fucking time off! Oh and maybe be upset and worried about the IA investigation and your brand new job! I didn’t really get going to King especially if you are set on avoiding Lucky. It just didn’t feel right.

And now, the biggest issue I had with this book. Why does everyone keep reminding everyone that Mason was with Ace? Ace was like a 3rd person, like the books with the dead spouse whose memory haunts the new couple, through the entire book! This was not hot, romantic or sexy. And when Tommy asks if Lucky and Ace compare notes? OH MY GOD! I just wish this was information we knew from the past and it wasn’t a thing. It was just too much and too present and everyone talked about it. Ugh.

But hey, stay with me. Aside from all that I didn’t hate it. Really. I really liked Lucky and loved how the sweet mixed with the hot. I am so glad they just gave in and when all the weird exes and insecurities weren’t mentioned I was super happy and really into the story. I love how it all wrapped up, made my heart feel good.

Overall I like this series, I think the guys are fun and the romances are just my kind of sweet and hot.

Bring on King!

Yet more delicious action and adventure with the Kings

This book sets off running, picking up the story at the point Red's ended in book two and it may be a tad confusing if you've not read that one.

Once things get into it though what we get is a powerfully strong narrative in which two men who are perfect for each other spend an awful lot of time fighting against the inevitable tide of attraction.

The side order of suspense didn't work quite as well for me as in the first two books, it felt a little bit like I was waiting for the obvious once Mason's big secret was revealed.

However, the fall out from it was, imho, brilliant handled and I really liked that wee twist.

Mason and Lucky as characters were wonderful, unique voices and a real fiery chemistry that burst off the page. The sexy times were passionate but also loving, each man having feelings before admitting them in anything other than actions.

The rest of the gang is on hand to cut tensions with the levity and joking about that can only come from dealing with great hardship and bonding together and I can't wait for King to finally get his HEA.

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Lucky and Mason - this was an ongoing love / avoidance story and really was one that focused around mutual desire for each other but fear from the past. It was clear that both men were fascinated with each other and their mutual desire was evident. After a mistake at work, Mason was put on leave. To keep him going he looked to King for some temporary work which resulted in him being placed as Luckys partner. Working closely forced their hand to be honest and clear misconceptions. This book really was sweet....

Reread/Relisten
Same rating as before, I think this might be my favorite, although book one was very good too.

I hope Ryden has a book of his own.. fingers crossed.

4 stars

Yes the beginning you felt a little lost, because you were thrust in to Mason and Lucky in a fight, but honestly that didn’t bother me as much as I thought. I think to really get the full story you can apparently read the epilogue of book 2..? But I wouldn’t know since I’ve only read book 1, 3 and 4 and in a random order lol.

I feel like you can technically read these as stand-alones since they are about a different couple each book and a different “crime”. There isn’t really a continuous story line in the background which is nice.

Greg Boudreaux is magic he really made this book, Masons Texan accent and Lucky’s cuban accent 😍😍. I felt the chemistry between these two waaaay more than King and Leo, and Ace and Colton… but that’s just me. I would say this is the best book of the series. I stayed up late just to finish it since I couldn’t put it down.

I am going to start the spin off or at least Jokers book because he has a dog haha and I am interested in his story the most.

I find the story entertaining even if it's not the best book in the series, it's still a solid story, I'm not going to lie about that but I decided not to rate this book based on my opinion on something that I did not like.

As a POC and especially a latina that learned to speak English on her own I find it very disrespectful the way Lucky was portrayed as not understanding basic English words. The fact that the author added some scenes of the main characters basically kicking racists assholes in the balls was even more disappointing because I can see that she had good intentions but it doesn't change the fact that she wrote this character from a very hurtful stereotypical point of view. I don't like and I won't stay quiet about it. I do hope that someone close to her brings this up and she learns from this mistake.

Sidenote: "ay dios mio" during sex is not a thing, really, is cringe, please don't use it. We get that "Oh god" is a thing in English but we don't translate everything literally in Spanish, so idk, next time ask a latino. (I even did a poll on my twitter about this being a thing for Spanish speaking people and it got 100% no)

Edit: I've been informed that the Author is apparently latina which makes this whole thing even worse.
