Chaotic Love #1

Begin with You

Rate this book
From the outside, Abby’s life looks like a fairytale.

Loving family, wealthy lifestyle, education at a prestigious university. The truth? She’s barely managing to survive. Few know the nightmare she lived before she was adopted. And no one knows the secret agony that still haunts her nightmares.

With a degree from Berkeley, she could have gone anywhere, but she’s back in Colorado. Not for a fresh start—fresh starts are only an illusion—but for Wes Ahern. Her protector, who throws around words like “therapy” and “talk to me.” Her brother in every way but blood. The one man she wishes could be so much more.

Maybe, just this once, she can stop running from her demons.

But does she dare let Wes see inside the darkest closets of her pain…or will love be the biggest mistake of her life?

An inspirational and emotional contemporary romance Begin with You is a heartbreaking tale of fresh starts and old wounds. This jarring and dark novel will leave readers at the edge of their seats. This is part one of a duet, thus containing a cliffhanger that leads into the next installment. It contains references to childhood trauma, rape, kidnapping, and PTSD.

My Review:

I don’t know what it is about Claudia Burgoa but despite my complete and total loathing of conflict and angst, I cannot resist her disquieting stories. She definitely has the word voodoo - and lots of it. Begin With You had me ensorcelled, captivated, and held hostage with compelling characters and a heart-squeezing and intriguing tale. But how vile, I’m am stamping my little foot while blue steam is blasting from every cranial orifice as this foreboding, dark, and twisted saga ended with a heinous cliffhanger and broke me. Once I’ve calmed down it’s off to the store to pick up supplies for a fetish doll and extra sharp pins to employ while impatiently awaiting the second half of this addictive duet.

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

TW: Abusive situations, ptsd, prostitution, human trafficking, drug dealing, child exploitation, rape, kidnapping. Not suitable for young children.

This novel...it was so heartbreaking and real..and so darn emotional. Sigh. Wes and Abby, for the first time in a while truly inspired me and made me feel more than any other book I ever had.

Such sensitive, loving, heartbreaking, real characters they were. Their stories urged me to want to do something about the situations they faced..that kids even younger than them face everyday..and help them somehow.

And I did not want their story to end..so good and true and real it all was. Most of all heartbreaking...that's what it was.

I just..I don't have enough words people. I am trying but I can't. I am scrounging for words to explain who they are, but I struggle hard.

So I'll just leave you with these words instead: Heartbreaking, true, and feelings are all whack.

That's it.

DNF @ 38%.

I have notes:

-I pretty much hated the beginning of this book. It starts off in Abby's POV for the prologue and a chapter where she is introduced to Wes and his family as they foster her for a year; but then switches to Wes' POV for snapshots of something like 6 years. In those short little blurbs, the reader is told that they are friends and we are told Abby is off traveling the world to get away from her past in Denver (where Wes is) but they stay friends and then at some point Wes develops feelings for her. There is no emotion behind any of this. There are hardly any scenes showing the two of them actually being friends. There is nothing to set up the two of them falling for each other, so by the time that does predictably happen, I felt nothing. I didn't care.

-Everything about this story feels rushed and choppy. It goes in and out of the past and present. By the 38%, Abby has gone through something terrible, moved in with a new family, graduates, travels the world, the family's dad dies, something about a Tahoe house? (idk I was skimming by that point), Wes takes over the family business and hates it, and Wes tells her how he feels very unceremoniously by literally walking up to her and saying 'hey, I like you-do you like me?', which, yeah-that's effective and all, but it's terribly boring to read about. By the time they kiss, I just didn't care about either of them or any other character for that matter.

-The characters are not interesting to me and are set up in a way where Wes is constantly taking care of poor, timid, damaged Abby (a formula that is trite and annoying to me).

What can I say about this book? Ouch. That sums it up pretty good. My heart hurt. My head hurt. And soul hurt for the pain that these characters went through. It’s taking me much longer than I would like to post my review, but this is the kind of book that makes you think. It makes you realize just how much one person can make or break you. How that one person can help you heal. But most of all, it shows you just how much pain and suffering one person can suffer and still make it out alive at the end of the road.

It’s not my first book by this author, but the fact that Claudia Burgoa has evolved so much since that first book I read, it’s truly amazing. It still astounds me to the point that i`m both scared (in a good way) and excited to read her next book. It’s the kind of scared that makes me wonder if my ‘ouch’ will survive her emotional train ride that i`m being put through when I pick up her book and go through that journey alongside her characters. Two huge thumbs up from me for this book and i`ll be looking forward to the next instalment in this duet.

I don't even know where to begin with this, so forgive me if this review is a little rambley.
One thing I love about Claudia's books is that the characters are real, and flawed, and their issues affect their relationships in realistic ways. These aren't books with neat, clean, "I'm in love so everything is roses and rainbows" HEAs, but have more depth and substance to them. Her characters struggle, make bad decisions with good intentions, and work to overcome their issues so they can live their best lives. I love that - it's important to read books like this, as opposed to books that hint at "baggage" as plot devices and gloss over everything for a pretty ending.

However, these same books can punch you in the gut with their honesty and rawness.

Abby and Wes are best friends. Abby came to Wes's family as a 17 year old foster child. She learns from Wes that he was also a foster child, adopted by his family at age 5. He assumes they have similar pasts, since she exhibits some of the same coping behaviours he did in the past, and it turns out he's the one who can calm her down and get through to her the most when she has panic attacks and night terrors. Their relationship grows over the years to best friends, with Wes visiting Abby all over the world until she finally moves back to Denver to work for Wes at the family corporation, a year after the death of his father.

However, in Denver Abby is haunted by the monsters of her past, and seems to worsen. Wes has fallen in love with her over the years, but is content with supporting her as her friend and tries to "fix" her. Abby is afraid to let him know the truth about her past and resists.

I went into this knowing that it's the first part of a duet, thus ending on a cliffhanger which I normally hate. I was prepared this time, though, and am anxiously awaiting the sequel of this fantastic story! I wan to know what happens next, if Abby gets the help she needs, and Wes, too - he insists he's dealt with his past and he was very young, but he has a bit of a saviour complex. I also want to read more about Sterling, his younger brother.

OMG...this book. Begin With You is the first book in the Chaotic Love Duet and I loved it. Claudia is one of my must read authors as her stories will always evoke a range of emotion from you and this story was no exception. Claudia know how to grab your attention and she does that so well in this novel.
This page-turner will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride. It was sad and angsty and while reading, you know there is more to come. It was also a sweet, touching slow burn romance and as you go through the pages you will fall in love with these characters and will be rooting for them in no time. The characters were complex, flawed individual who were all well-developed.
The plot was gripping and will suck you in right from the start. The story is told though flashbacks and at different ages. This novel will have you hooked and at the edge of your seat until the very end and it will leave you wanting more. OMG....what a cliffhanger. I can't wait for book 2.
Begin with You was a fantastic read and I would highly recommend it.

~ 4.5 Emotionally Raw Stars ~

Begin With You is a raw and emotional story that will capture your heart and hold it hostage. It addresses situations that are unfortunately happening in real life and it broke my heart and made me feel as I was reading about it.

Abby has a fantastic life now but her past has haunted her since she was very young. With a loving family and her the world at her fingertips, she has to figure out a way to push the past away but we all know it isn't that easy. Her biggest rock in her life is Wes. They are best friends and when he becomes grounded in Colorado, she heads back home in fear of losing him. Which in turns brings back her past full force. Now Wes has to figure out how to help. It isn't pretty, it's hauntingly beautiful.

Wes. My dear Wes. He's got to be one of the most calm, patient and loving man I've read in a long time. Burgoa has this ability to create her characters with so much passion and detail that you can't help but be drawn to them. The character development in all her stories is always so amazing.

I really liked Begin With You and I hope everyone picks it up and gives it a try. Don't let the angst scare you. Its the one thing that ties this story together. It's necessary. It's complicated. It's beautiful.

So...what are you waiting for? Click this baby now!

I am completely cheating.
Yes, I'm not cool. Actually this is the worse thing as a reviewer to do.
BUT
Read the review for book two.
You can't read book one and stop.
You can't read book two without book one.
BUT
I can't tell you how I felt without talking about book two.
Check out the shelves. That should be self explanatory.

While I haven't read all of Ms. Burgoa's books I have read enough to know that I can go in completely blind and just fall in love with the story and the characters. Begin with You was quite a mysterious, gripping read.

The story is told in flashbacks of Abby's life at different ages. We learn quite a bit about Abby but there are still a lot of unanswered questions about what transpired during her childhood between her, her Mother, Step Father & his children. We know there are some secrets that Abby is desperately trying to keep hidden as she does not want her tormentors to retaliate.

Wes was a foster child at age 5 to the Ahern's who adopt him. When Abby comes to them Wes is drawn to her and will do anything to protect her. He has become her best friend and confidant through the years and he cannot imagine ever being parted from her. Over the years his feelings toward her deepen into love but he would never do anything to jeopardize the friendship that grows stronger between them with each passing year.

Eventually Wes shows Abby that he sees her as more than just his best friend and thus a romance starts to blossom. Wes knows there are parts of Abby that she may never let him see but he knows that whatever she is keeping hidden is eating her up inside and he's afraid that if she doesn't open up to someone he may lose her forever.

This book ripped me apart and didn't even put me back together because it ended on such a cliffhanger that my insides screamed for the pain that I feel Abby will endure in book 2.

I am dying to get my hands on the next part as I know all will be revealed and I just know Ms. Burgoa is going to make it worth the wait.

Everyone needs to read this book! This book is everything and touches on every single type of emotion you could ever experience while reading a book. Begin with You is stunning and written beautifully. This is some of Claudia Burgoa' s best work. Some parts are so unimaginable, but unfortunately could be true to real life. Despite all the dark and heartache, there is light and love throughout this book. The love and bond Abby and Wes establish is stretched thin, but never breaks. Their story is inspiring and promotes strength and courage. I can not say enough good about this book. My heart ached and my stomach was in knots while reading, but Begin with You is a definite page turner. I knew it would be ugly, but needed to know what happened. While I was prepared for this cliffhanger I didn't want it to happen! Yes there is a cliffhanger, but the story and characters need more time and I know it will be totally worth all the pain and struggle!!

"If you wait until you're ready for life, you will miss it. No one is ready for what's to come. That's why you must learn how to live and be strong enough to face anything that's thrown your way."

This is part 1 of a duet that has me on the edge of my seat waiting for part 2!
Claudia Burgoa writes about life in such a realistic and at times relatable way. I couldn't always understand what Abby or Was were trying to rationalize but I could grasp the turmoil and how they were trying to process what they were going through. They both have been through childhood trauma and carry the aftereffects with them as they come to terms with their feelings for each other. They have been close friends during the last 6 years and realize there's more than just friendship. But with Wes' savior complex and Abby's insecurities, old wounds interfere with a fresh start.

As Sterling, states to Wes, "This is who you are. The guy who gets obsessed with an imperfection and tries to find a way to make it functional".

Claudia has a way at portraying real life into her writing in such a poignant way.
I can't wait for the part 2!

Another line that caught my heart;
"Each time your heart screams in fear, I can hear it - even when you're silent". (Wes to Abby)

Holy wow!! I’ve been excited for this duet and I may have screamed when it showed up on my kindle! I’ve been very well versed in the work of Ms. Burgoa of late. Every time she has a new release I devour it! And this book was no exception! Her books get better and better every one I pick up!!

Abby, oh this girl stole my heart from the very beginning. She’s a survivor and has a heart of gold to go along with it. Enters Wes. Their relationship from the beginning was one unlike any other because of the bond these two share. I won’t go into detail but you’ll understand. And not to mention the rest of the Ahern’s family. They’re a godsend! And makes me view the world and the people in it in a lot better way!

This story will take you on an adventure and then some! And it’ll have you ready for the second book and to dive right in! I can’t wait to see where Abby and Wes’ story goes next and what happens!!

PHENOMENAL!

Begin with You by Claudia Burgoa is book one in the Chaotic Love duet, and I'm left utterly speechless after reading this gut-wrenching, heartbreaking book. Begin With You is a full throttle angsty, heartbreaking story that I couldn't put down. I just couldn't get through this story fast enough. It's so absolutely wonderfully written. I was hooked from the very first word.

Abby's story is a tragic one. And years later still suffers the trauma. Although she's the sweetest, kindest, most amazing person. When she first meets Wes after she's sent to live with his family, she is immediately drawn to him, and he to her. He feels it's his job to protect sweet Abby.

I ADORED Wes, he was always there for Abby. I was really rooting for these two, but Ms Burgoa never makes it an easy road for her characters.

I don't wanna give any spoilers away, but I have to say this book is a top read of mine so far this year. From the storyline, to the characters you'll fall in love with, i feel this duet will be a must read!

Oh, my heart! Begin with Me by Claudia Burgoa was an intense, emotional romance that made my heart feel all. the. things. Claudia has a way of creating real, raw, and flawed characters in this story that have tragic pasts. Wes and Abby's story is dark, haunting, and dangerous, but also steadfast and true. Since this is book 1 in the duet, I need to know more! (That ending!)

This audiobook is narrated by Jason Clarke and Muffy Newtown. Their performances squeezed at my heartstrings. In Jason's performance you could feel Wes struggle with his own demons, and take his time showing Abby his love after years of friendship. Jason has this genuine, protective tone in this performance that will make you swoon over Wes. Muffy does an amazing job portraying Abby's dark, disturbing, fearful past that will have your emotions all over the place, but at the same time wishing for her to find her inner peace.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and need to know what happens next! This book has several trigger warnings, so just be aware, and it does end on a cliffhanger. Claudia left me guessing with that gripping terrifying ending, so I will immediately start Back to You! I always look forward to more from Claudia Burgoa.

It's kind of difficult to write a review without a spoiler in a book that you loved so much, and do it in english it's harder.
The story of Abigail Lyons is sad, it's heart wrenching at times, but this book it's just part of the process of healing (I really hope so!!). Even when this book leaves you in a cliffhanger it's amazing, has lots drama, but lots of great characters. I think this author writes the best men characters around. And in this book, Weston Ahern isn't the exception. He's sweet, loving, patient and a great protector. He loves Abby so much, but life isn't always straight foward, so they would need to survive some curveballs.
Abby's new family is great, but she still need to fight with the demons of her past to have the opportunity to be happy someday.
Sterling is great too, kind of childish sometimes but a great brother none the less And this first book of this duet I think is a really easy read, but I think the next one would be darker and harder to read. More emotional. I can't wait!

This is such a roller coast ride of a story. There are secrets between Wes and Abby that can destroy everything they've built as friends. When they become more, the secrets are too much to share. I devoured this, couldn't put it down. Abby has been through so much before she is fostered by Wes's parents. She comes to them broken from the trama she has seen. Wes is immediately drawn to her to protect her. It takes him a while to realize it's more than that.
Abby comes from a life that she can never escape. Wes makes her feel calm. He is her best friend and confidant. She knows how to keep the demons at bay but her love for Wes brings her back. I am in awe of her and what she determines her life to be. She is so much stronger than she gives herself credit for.
Warning this does end in a cliff hanger but so worth standing on that cliff. I will be waiting there until the next book comes out.

Claudia Burgoa is one of the few authors I one click without reading the book blurb, this time I really wish I had. I have a hard time reading anything that involves abuse of children - and no it doesn't matter what type of abuse I find all abuse of children to be repulsive but the sexual abuse of a minor is beyond anything that I can comprehend. The one thing I am thankful for is that while there is mention of various abuse of minors, not just one, we are not given the gory details of it all...and because of this I was not only able to complete this book but I am actually looking forward to reading Back to You which is the next book in the duet.

Abigail Lyons is finally taken from her home and put into foster care after the death of her stepsister, what no one knows is the horrors that went on in the house before that night. But the saving grace of it all is the family she is sent to live with Will and Linda have taken in several children over the years and with the help of their son Sterling and adopted son Weston they hope to be what Abby needs to heal. Right from the very beginning Abby and Wes form a deep friendship, this one line sums them up perfectly.... "You're my anchor, just like I'm your compass."

Throughout the book we are moved through time with flashbacks and time progression, this book takes place over a six year period, from the time Wes and Abby meet to the crazy cliffhanger we are left with, but the flashbacks have us going even further back in time. Both Abby and Wes have had trouble childhoods, and hopefully in the next book they will find a way to heal themselves as well as one another.

I always recommend Claudia's books and this one is no different but please be aware that It contains references to childhood trauma, rape, kidnapping, and PTSD. This is not a very dark read but I wouldn't consider it a light contemporary read either there is also a hint of suspense so if that sounds like something you may enjoy I say grab it and give it a chance...I don't think you'll be disappointed. Happy Reading!!!

Wow just wow!!! Amazing read. Claudia is an amazing writer, however this book is one of her best yet as far as I am concerned. I felt what the characters were feeling and the flow of the story was just perfect.

Wes and Abby's story is so very deep. The issues they face are very real and Claudia does a great job going into their minds and seeing how they feel. When a story has love, suspense and depth it totally draws me in, this book has all that and more!

This is my first book by Claudia Burgoa and I am hooked! It is in my top ten favorite books so far this year. What a story and what a ride! I think the author did such a great job developing characters whose flaws made them more endearing and easier to relate to. Abby is such an amazingly strong character just trying to survive and find her normal. Wes is the guy every woman dreams of meeting in her life. The struggles the characters have gone through in order to survive absolutely broke my heart and had me cheering in their corner the whole time. I loved the dynamic of the family and need for Sterling to get his own book when all is said and done. T

Well worth the lack of sleep right now and I am wreck right now waiting for book 2 to be released

I read this novel within an anthology titled Once Upon A…A Collection of Firsts. The anthology included 18 pieces of reading material by this writer, four of which were novels. I’ve placed my analyses of the novels in their own respective reviews because the GoodReads reviewing page did not allow the length required to review 18 items. This is an unexpected fifth novel, for all that it reads like a horrendously long excerpt. I’ve also placed the anthology in its own review.

This story reads like an excerpt but is long enough to qualify as a novella, if not a novel. I had an extraordinarily difficult time staying with this book because, quite frankly, it’s pretty awful and not at all like the writer’s previous novels. I thought this was an excerpt because the anthology in which I read this book promised four novels, each the first in its series. This entry appeared after the other four novels. While researching the item, I found it to be the first book in the Chaotic Love series.

In the anthology, this book is Begin With Me on the title page and Begin With You on the copyright page. Amazon lists the book as Begin With Me, so let’s go with that. While I remain confused about how this can be called an actual book, what I do know with absolute certainty is that this is not a romance and there is no HEA.

I like the F. Scott Fitzgerald quotation about his wife, Zelda, that begins this excerpt/quasi-book. That’s the only thing I like about this story. I believed it to be a long, long excerpt because there is no ending. There’s no beginning, either, but we can pretty much ignore that since the writer keeps us in the dark about pretty much everything that drives the story’s characters. The storyline, the plot (what there is of one), every character, the settings, the mood – everything – about this novel is dreary, depressing, dull and with no redeeming social value. This is a first: this book is the 7-D’s: dark, dank, dismal, dreary, depressing and deadly dull.

Ostensibly this story is about Abby and Wes. As a couple, they are beyond strange. They do not mix well. Both are broken, and in a romance, we’d see that each could help the other recover from their lost childhoods and shattered dreams. Here, they seem to just keep descending into deeper holes of pain and darkness. This story is actually about how evil is real; it exists in the world. We already know this is true. Every society, every religion has a name, or names, for it. But we also know that Good also exists in equal portions, something this writer appears to forget.

Why do we seem to flock to evil? What is it that mesmerizes us? This book perpetuates evil without allowing its characters – or its unfortunate readers – a way out. Evil wins. How, then, is this book included in a romantic genre where a Happily Ever After is practically guaranteed? That’s a good question and there is no answer. I think it does not belong here. If it can be buttonholed, then perhaps it’s a psychological discourse (maybe). It isn’t a thriller, nor a mystery. It’s just a bunch of words coming together to spread misery, defeat, and pain. There is no ending. Perhaps the writer meant this to be a cliffhanger; if so, it does not work. There is no way I would read any more in this series, and I’m rethinking reading any more books by this writer.

The writing style in this story is unlike any I’ve read in the anthology of the writer’s works. The story is brutal without a touch of humanity behind it. If the writer wanted to show evil as a living, breathing thing that appears in even benign circumstances, then she succeeded.

I read carefully through chapter 9 where I got tired of the innuendo and vagueness surrounding Abby (the lead female protagonist) and her past. As readers, from the tone and ugliness of the book, we already know it’s something terrible and deeply disturbing. I began to speedread until chapter 13, after I rolled my eyes so hard, I thought my eyeballs might never return to normal. At chapter 15 I looked at the Table of Contents and found that there were 24 more chapters to get through. I skipped large sections of the story after chapter 15 and found myself missing nothing.

Eventually, we can piece together the hell that has been Abby’s life. She finally gets Wes to open up a bit – but we just know he isn’t telling her all about what went on in his young life – and he is also emotionally crippled, not as much as Abby. No, Abby has been through too much.

For those of us who find such observations interesting, this book has no story arc, and naturally enough no character arc. It drones on and on endlessly repeating itself. This long excerpt just may be a teensy tinesy tadpole of a preview of Hell.

There are some errors; I missed more, I expect, because I skipped over and speedread so much of each chapter.
 “Somedays I’m brave….” I believe, taking in the context of this sentence, that the writer means, “Some days I’m brave….” There’s a difference between the two. “Somedays” is an adjective that refers to future events. Abby, the narrator, is speaking of her past and current situation, not the future. She is talking about some of the days she has lived. “Some” is an adjective modifying the noun, “days.”
 “…tying to remain silent…” This should read, “…trying to remain silent….”
 “…cerveza porfavor….” In Spanish, the word “please” is spelled, “por favor,” two separate words, not one. The phrase should read, “…cerveza por favor….

Something about this story reminds me of a play by Jean Paul Sartre, called “Huis Clos.” “No Exit” is how it is generally translated into English, but it is better translated as in camera, a legal term referring to a privately held discussion behind closed doors. It’s an existential work about three damned souls locked in a room in Hell for all eternity and the room has no exits. Sartre wrote it better. If you want a taste of the existentialism that perhaps this writer was aiming for (honestly, I do not know if this is the case), then grab a copy of “Huis Clos.” If you don’t read French, it’s still worth reading a decent translation. I read “Huis Clos” in high school French class. I read a translation, “No Exit,” in high school English and Penguin Books offered an excellent translation; sadly, that book is packed away and I do not remember the name of the translator, but I’ll bet Amazon offers one.

I rated this book-length (seeming) excerpt a generous half-star. Read it if you feel you must, but in my humble opinion, it isn’t worth your time. Take this from someone (me, not the writer) who cares about you, another reader, sight unseen.

When Abby is given a chance to start over at age 17, she doesn't realize that she's finally going to be safe. Her new family takes her in and gives her all the love and security she should have had her entire life. And she bonds with Wes, her foster parents' adopted son. Wes becomes her best friend, her protector, her rock. As she grows, she comes to love Wes and wish he could be more than her best friend and pseudo brother. But for a damaged person such as herself, she knows there will be no romantic love that she craves. Because her secrets are the kind that when revealed, push everyone away. So she carries her secrets inside, deep inside, until they manifest in a form of PTSD, to the point that no one, not even her rock can help her.

Begin with You isn't so much a romance. It's a psychological thriller, maybe even a romantic suspense, but there's nothing romantic about it. It's in that gray area between truly dark and the light where most contemporary romance lies. There are so many secrets and darkness oozing beneath the surface of Abby's tormented mind. I felt so badly for her as she lived her life trying to cope with her secrets, trying to just find some peace from those secrets. And then at the end, when that crazy cliffhanger happened, ARGH! I wanted to smack someone. But I know the conclusion is coming soon, thank God!

I received an ARC for an honest review.

Begin with You by Claudia Burgoa is an emotional and heartfelt story that will leave you drained and wanting more. This is a duet, so be prepared! I only recently found Claudia and already know her stories are gripping and angst-driven, all which I love as a reader, so this was no different.

Wes and Abby meet when Wes’s family takes Abby in as a foster child. They become fast friends, as Wes gives Abby something she desperately needs. They remain friends through the years, even as she travels. But now she is back home and close to Wes again. Wes could not be happier, as he loves Abby, but is prepared to be her friend and support, if that is what she wants and needs. But Abby’s demons still haunt her. We are given glimpses and flashbacks surrounding her childhood, all whiles she tries to keep them hidden.

Slowly, Wes begins to show Abby what they could have and hopes she could learn to trust in him. To say I devoured this book is an understatement. This book consumed me. I want to share so much, but at the same time, you just need to experience this story. It is heartbreaking at times, but also heartfelt to see these two come together. A must-read for sure! I cannot wait to get my hands on book two!

4.5 stars! Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.

Happy reading!

You have got to be kidding me? I am speechless. What a cliffhanger.... Ugh, where's the next book? I'm having withdrawals. This is why Claudia is one of the best authors ever. She writes these angst love stories that get you hooked on her characters and you never want their story to end.

Abby is sweet, beautiful and amazing on the outside and her friendship with Wes is a very special one sealed when she was 17 and came to stay with his family as a foster kid. Wes quickly became her protector, but never really knew what made Abby terrified. Abby had just lost her sister and needed a place to feel loved. Abby was not at all what she appeared to be on the outside. She was quiet and wouldn't talk for awhile because it was easier to shut everyone out, even the ones who were trying to love you. You see Abby learned that love always comes with a cost.

Everyone needs to read this book and fall in love with Abby and Wes's story. I promise you, you won't be disappointed.

I have come to learn that this author writes books that will leave you a mess on the floor and this one is no exception. These characters are so real and deal with issues and fears that can haunt a person. Abby showed up at the Ahren's house and she refused to talk. Her past is still eating at her all these years later, because she WON'T talk about what happened. Wes can't help but fall in love with her a little more each day. But can he ever get her to fully open up to heal and to love. She is afraid he won't like her anymore after she tells him the entire story.

You just want her to be happy and okay and being able to enjoy life. I want to be her friend and comfort her and I want to see Wes be able to reach her in a way noone else has. This book is chalked full of emotions, and angst and heartbreak and love and of course it ends on this cliffhanger that makes you want to throw your kindle out the window.

This is told in dual POV and has flashbacks throughout her life and even Wes' recollection of her past since she moved into their household. I want to see if Wes and Abby can both heal and see that strength come through that they both show. Amazing story and I can't wait for part 2.

High angst, emotional story

Begin With You is a bit of angst level: high-alert. It is a story with super highs and colossal lows. It is like one of those rides that where you don’t know if you are going forward or spinning back at any given time.

“Abby, stop fantasizing. Love isn’t possible for someone like you.”

Abby is struggling to even function and survive with a past that has left her highly scarred. I sometimes couldn’t decide if I wanted to slap some sense into her or hug her but as each part of her background is revealed, my heart began to hurt for all she had to endure.

“You only have this life. It’s not a rehearsal, it’s happening as we speak.”

There was so much emotional back and forth that at times I felt whiplashed, but I was always needing to turn the next page and wanting more and more. And after that ending, luckily it’s not a long wait for book two!
