Rate this book
In Criminal Enterprise, Thomas Chase wakes up from cryosleep to his first day at a new job - as a pilot for a contraband drug company dropping a shipment on Fantasia, a rock-planet terraformed to hide an elaborate drug manufacturing operation. Everything from synthetic heroin to MX7 is cooked here, in protected caves guard-dogged by the savage Aliens. When Chase's craft touches down on Fantasia, a chain of events begins that can not be stopped. As criminals and competitors try to take over the drug-empire from the dangerous kingpin, Chase and his brother Pete are caught in the crossfire... with the Aliens adding blood to the mix.

No Exit tells the story of Detective Anders Kramm, awakening to a changed world after thirty years of cryogenic sleep. The alien threat has been subdued. Company interests dominate universal trade. Terraforming is big money now, with powerful men willing to do anything to assure dominance over other worlds. But Kramm has a secret. He knows why The Company killed twelve of its top scientists. He knows why the aliens have been let loose on the surface of a contested planet. He knows that the information he has is valuable, and that The Company will do everything it can to stop him from telling his secret to the world. Haunted by memories of the brutal murder of his family, Kramm is set adrift amid billion dollar stakes . . . with aliens around every corner, waiting for him to make a mistake!

Aliens: Omnibus Volume 7 is a thrilling addition to the *Aliens* expanded universe, blending two fast-paced and intense stories, *Aliens: Criminal Enterprise* by S.D. Perry and *Aliens: No Exit* by B.K. Evenson. These stories, while different in tone and structure, encapsulate the horror, tension, and chaos that fans of the Aliens franchise have come to expect.

In *Aliens: Criminal Enterprise*, S.D. Perry delivers a gripping tale set in the world of corporate greed and organized crime. The story follows Thomas Chase, a criminal tasked with overseeing a business venture that involves harnessing the deadly Xenomorphs for profit. Perry masterfully weaves together the criminal underworld with the nightmarish presence of the Aliens, creating a suspenseful atmosphere that keeps readers on edge. The book explores themes of survival, moral ambiguity, and the limits of human control over nature's deadliest creatures. Fans of Perry's work will appreciate her meticulous attention to character development and her ability to inject dread into every interaction with the Aliens.

*Aliens: No Exit* by B.K. Evenson, on the other hand, leans more into psychological horror and isolation. It follows Security specialist Anders Kramm, a former survivor of a alien infestation who is forced to confront his own fears and the alien threat when he is dragged back into the world of Xenomorphs. Evenson's writing style is taut and claustrophobic, painting vivid scenes of terror as Kramm battles both external dangers and his inner demons. The tension is unrelenting, with the story diving deep into the psyche of its protagonist as he grapples with the existential dread the Xenomorphs represent. Evenson excels at creating an oppressive atmosphere, making the reader feel trapped alongside the characters.

Both novels complement each other in their exploration of humanity's relentless exploitation of the Aliens, whether through greed or scientific curiosity, and the inevitable consequences of trying to control such primal, deadly forces. The *Omnibus* does a great job of showcasing the versatility of the *Aliens* universe, with Perry focusing on action and crime elements while Evenson delves into psychological horror.

For fans of the *Aliens* franchise, *Omnibus Volume 7* offers an engaging and chilling ride. Each story stands on its own merits but also works as part of the broader narrative tapestry that is the *Aliens* mythos. The writing is sharp, the tension palpable, and the atmosphere pure nightmare fuel. It's a must-read for anyone who craves more tales of Xenomorph horror.

Criminal Enterprise....
Drugs, sex and violence, oh yea!

Thank god I finally read a good book from this run of the series. The last three made me seriously contemplate taking a break for awhile but I found myself getting into CE almost right away.

The fact that it takes a different approach to what I’ve read in the previous books, definitely helped. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the whole drug dealers plot but there were two other stories going on within that, which helped. SD Perry seems to be consistent with her writing and I’m happy with this one as well.

The characters are what drew me into this even more, their all assholes ha. But with a little background of each, without devoting an entire history behind them, was nice. I’m fine with reading about characters you don’t particularly like.

I also liked how the aliens were written. This was one of the first books where the author didn’t get into an extreme detail of them and what they do to the humans, but when their taking away and carried off to the hive, it felt dark. They knew what would happen, us as the reader knows, and that’s it. Although out of pure curiosity, I wouldn’t have minded a chapter devoted to one of the humans waking up and describing being attached to a wall with the others that they had known.

The ending trailed off a little but other than that, I really liked it. There were even moments of reading it that I could see on film or tv.

No Exit
The start of the book is probably one of the best that I’ve read in the Alien series, I mean, it had me immediately! It was so different and unique and I really enjoyed how the author set the mood, for the first half of the book anyway.

If the book would’ve focused on Kramm as a “Alien Detective” solely, I probably would’ve been far more interested in the book but once he gets to the planet to investigate, he meets a character named Frances and it kind of dipped from there. Her character seemed at times to know a lot more of what was going on and then wouldn’t understand anything so I found her character hard to like, hard to even understand.

It seemed that once they escaped the planet, the book looses steam and at times, couldn’t quite figure out which direction to go. It would pick up in some spots and die in others.

I did like the planet idea, where the characters get diverted to, as a test subject hive location. A mouse maze so to speak where they’re being monitored by scientists on a nearby moon.

When the action picked up in the third half it felt kind of clunky and although I like the character of Bjorn, it’s never quite explained how this guy could have almost super human strength.

Kramm and Braley were great characters who should’ve had some more interaction time together. Hell, there should have been more of Braley but he just drops out about half way through and is never mentioned again, which is a shame.

The ending, It’s a shame because I would actually like to see what happens next with the remaining characters on the moon base.

The author did a great job of explaining Kramms fear of the dark and being in such closed spaces as vents and tunnels.

I still think this was one of the better stories from DH runs but still felt short of being really, really great! I wonder what the book would’ve been if the author had stayed with the Alien Detective part and still had Braley be apart of the story. Get rid of Frances and stick with Bjorn.

Both books in this collection are just so so. Both have their moments of potential, but it feels like greatness was just out of reach.

The first book, Criminal Enterprise, has an unsavory cast of criminals operating on a planet, covered by Aliens, as protection, to run a drug facility. Multiple groups show up. Stuff happens that just ends built up story lines in a few pages. Then just kind of plod along. The end is okay, but much more could have been done with the other storylines.

The second book, No Exit, had potential. This started out as another detective like novel with promise. Then nearly every mystery is suddenly solved in one chapter by a recording device. The book devolves into a basic run from the aliens affair for the last half or so. The aliens though only attack in small groups. A big buff character seemingly can wrestle aliens and bend locked doors, and he's not an android. Plus the whole time you're stuck thinking that The Company could have just ended this whole thing a long time ago. Why go to all this trouble?

More good Aliens entertainment

The authors of these two Aliens stories have come up with two very interesting stories to satisfy my want and need of more very good Aliens entertainment.
Though at the end of the second story, I felt like the author left me hanging with the hero's of the story not completely safe and completely out of hot water yet. I enjoyed the main charactors very much and would very much like more stories about them!

The first story was awful; bad enough that I considered not finishing the book. Couldn’t tell you exactly what I disliked about it, just that it was not for me. The second story was good. Just another take on the evil Weytani Corporation more interested in money and power than human beings. However the main character was like able, and the escape from the alien hordes was pretty intense.

Excellent addition to the aliens series.

Both of these books were good. They both had good plots an excellent characters. The second book was a little bit better because it had better writing and the characters seemed more alive.

The first one is kind of lame but the second story is great until the last 100 pages and then it gets fairly predictable

I only read the Brian Evenson novel in this collection. It was good. Much better than it had any right to be. Like, I would recommend it to my sister.

I don't know if it is my (over)familiarity with the universe, but there seems to be a lighter touch in the writing that serves the story very well. It IS occasionally predictable, but this was leavened with some pretty good surprises. And the characters! They are largely likable and have some great lines. The bad ass Jolena and her humorous, bear-like husband Bjorn being particularly note-worthy. Sometimes I wish Evenson would loosen up like this a little more often.*

As another reviewer noted, the high quality of this story has provoked me to reevaluate certain snobbish opinions I may have held for franchise novels.

*"Loosen up" when speaking of Evenson is a phrase I maybe shouldn't have used. He is often very funny, and though I am talking about that as well, I am more trying to speak on the weight of the prose as a whole. It just reads super-fluidly here, where he has other stories that I have to practically chew.

The first story was a bit meh overall. Throw some violence, drugs and sex at a story with aliens in it, but by no means about them, and you get Enterprise. Its readable but just feels like it could have been a sci-fi short story without the aliens and it would have worked the same.

No Exit is a bit more cerebral and plays on Weyland Yutani's devious dodgy dealings. There is some doublecrossing, some fighting and some interesting characters. The aliens while still not the key focus of the story are much more integral to it than in Enterprise and it was an enjoyable if sometimes dragged out romp.

Not the best collection of the series by any means but they are better than anything in the Bug Hunt collection so that's something.

Brian Evenson is the best

I only read Aliens: No Exit, because I’m a huge evenson fan. To me, this delivered and actually made me curious about other licensed novels. It was way better than I was expecting, and a really really solid entry into the Aliens canon. Couldn’t recommend it more highly.

THE COMPANY IS AT IT AGAIN, THEY ARE.....

Hello, sometimes with these sets of stories, you get at least one really good tale. This one, however, you get one really great story "NO Exit". Thanks.

Great

I enjoyed the first book of the 2, but I loved the second one. I really wish it continued though although long I feel the second book could have a whole book on it's own with that cliffhanger.
