Deputy Joe of the Arrowtown Sheriff's department has tried to hold his head up high his entire life, even though it's never been easy. Carrying the Quincy name has been a curse he's worked hard to put behind him, but when his two uncles get thrown out of Arrowtown because of their nefarious dealings, Joe found the courage to turn to the one man he thought would stand by his side. Being told he was "too young, too dumb and too well-hung" were not the words he expected to hear when his true mate rejected him to his face. As the man in question was the town doctor, it's not surprising that when Joe gets hurt, turning up at the man's surgery was the last thing on his to-do list.
Doctor Nathan Farriday (known locally as "Doc") has lived a long life, and not always on his own. A long time Arrowtown local, Doc has watched Joe grow into a kind, decent, hardworking man - too good for him in other words. If asked, Doc could spout a long list of reasons why taking the man as his fated mate was a bad idea. Age and inexperience were just the easiest reasons to explain. The danger from his animal half was something he preferred to keep to himself. But when Joe's family come calling and Joe is left badly hurt, Doc has to reassess a lifetime of bad choices.
Rampaging buffalo shifters and a bomb blast have the potential to splinter the tiny shifter town apart. In the ashes of the aftermath, the sheriff's department work furiously to keep their population safe. But will Joe and Doc's relationship survive the revelation of Doc's biggest secret or will they be forced to leave the town they both call home?
This is a true mate paranormal (shifter) MM story that includes depictions of intimacies between men and some violence. The story includes Mpreg although it is not the main focus of the story line. Due to adult content, readers 18+ only.
Lisa Oliver had been writing non-fiction books for years when visions of half dressed, buff men started invading her dreams. Unable to resist the lure of her stories, Lisa decided to switch to fiction books, and now stories about her men clamor to get out from under her fingertips. When Lisa is not writing, she is usually reading with a cup of tea always at hand. Her grown children and grandchildren sometimes try and pry her away from the computer and have found that the best way to do it, is to promise her chocolate. Lisa will do anything for chocolate. Lisa loves to hear from her readers and other writers. You can friend her on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/lisaoliverauthor), or email her directly at yoursintuitively@gmail.com. Another wonderful book from Lisa Oliver. Well done! I have a thing for mates who do silly things and then have to grovel real hard and beg forgiveness! Yes, this book had this in spades. I was also happy to revisit all my fav folks from Arrowtown and see how they are getting on with their lives. All is good. The book is fast-paced, with many diverse characters, excellent plot twists and a nasty villain. My kind of book.
I loved both Joe and Doc aka Nathan and how sweet they were. It was the right amount of s*e*x*y and adorbs. All that male protectiveness and growling was good for my soul. I also love the fact that in Lisa's books the MCs don't have this strict top-bottom policy if I could call it that. They are very versatile. It's good to not stereotype characters and give them a chance to be anything they want. This was a very enjoyable read, as always! I highly recommend it! I had great fun!
Rating: 3.5 stars This one is a bit tough for me to review. I really liked the story. I loved how all the town people came together to help both Doc and Joe. I think my problem stems from the fact that right off the bat Doc was a really dislikeable character and while he turned himself around fairly quickly, I didn’t buy into his reasons for being so mean to Joe and rejecting his mate. Still, I did warm up to him over time and Joe was wonderful. I loved him as a character. He was written a bit too good to be true, but still I loved him and was really glad that he got his HEA.
So overall, a really good story. While you could probably read it as a standalone, I wouldn’t recommend it. Many of the actions from previous books impacted this one. Also, there is mpreg for those who don’t like that sort of thing. If you already a fan of the series, I think you will like this one.
3.75 ⭐️ I did enjoy this one although I found Doc a harder character to like. Joe has always come across as a good character a quiet and nice person so I really felt for him with Doc’s refusal of their mating. I think his reasons were rubbish and to be honest I don’t understand how doc being as old as he was and seeing the other matings didn’t see how his refusal was affecting Joe. I also don’t understand why Doc doesn’t talk to his kids or grandkids. I’m glad it got worked out quickly and the story progressed. Watching their relationship bloom was enjoyable. I also enjoyed seeing the townspeople come together to help Joe and Doc.
Yuck! Disliked Doc, even after he decided to accept big hearted Joe as his fated mate. Doc had a cold, cruel streak. He was conceited and self centered. He had a horrible professional bedside manner. His arrogant attitude made him unsexy in the bedroom. Doc was a loner and estranged from his children and grandchildren. It was ironic that Joe impregnated him because he definitely wasn't a family man.
Deputy Joe always felt like a loaner and an outcast because his family had been thieves and had been casted out of town even his mate had rejected him. Doc was afraid of what the town would thank you. They found out he was a Komodo dragon shifter was pushing his made away because of the great age difference. They both found out they were loved and cared for by the town when the little tragedy happen to bringing the town together and Mrs. Hooper turns out to be the smartest person in town
Wow! I was pleasantly surprised with Doc's animal half. I really didn't see that coming. I happy to know that Deputy Joe's crazy family is out of the picture. Well at least for now. Can't wait for the next book.
I really liked both MC's in this book, and I loved how the town opened up to help both them, and each other. This is probably my favorite so far in this series, though the shifter pairings are getting odder and odder as the series progresses.
Read this story...this series. You will not be disappointed!
Lisa Oliver is one of my favorite authors. Her stories, her characters never disappoint. This story is no exception. Doc's animal is very special and one that has a always fascinated me. He and his mate prove differences can add sizzling spice to one's life with their mate(s). Their story is sweetness arising from turmoil. I loved them and their story. I love Arrowtown. I never want to say goodbye to it's inhabitants. Lisa Oliver is a very good storyteller. Important to me she keeps glaring grammatical errors out of her writing. She entertains. She captures a reader's heart.
A very sweet read that actually wraps up a lot of the remaining loose ends in Arrowtown. We learned in the last book that Joe knows his mate is Doc and was rejected by him a long time past, and now we the the why and what exactly is happening between these two.
Joe has had a rough go in Arrowtown. The last remaining buffalo in town because he didn't support his family, he still feels an outcast for all that his family did. Add in that he feels the lonely loss of knowing that his mate doesn't want him and Joe is just going through the motions. But his family makes a move to take back the town they think they lost wrongfully and is stirs up everything, including the fractured relationship between him and Doc.
Doc is quite a bit older than Joe and it turns out that he has been hiding quite a few things from town. His past is a bit of a mystery and he keeps his animal half under wraps for fear of what the town will think of him. Doc never wanted to drag down a younger mate and thinks that letting Joe go will work out best, but when he finds Joe almost dying after an attack from his family he can't stay away. Getting together will bring up insecurities on both their sides, but together they can work through it and find even more of a place in the town and together than they realized before.
It was good to see a more proper resolution on what happened to the previous leaders of Arrowtown and to know that things are more settled. There is a good feeling of a meeting of old and new knowledge as the town becomes more truly together through this experience and it promises to be a safe haven for any other like shifters. A good read and it could be interesting to see what more comes in this series.
50 books - This is a remarkable achievement in just over two and a half years.
After reading a few shifter novels and wanting something new to read, I happened to come across The Reluctant Wolf and herein began my love story with Lisa Oliver's books.
January 2016 I bought the first 7 Cloverleah books for my first order and I haven't looked back!
The only book that I didn't enjoy was Uncaged as cage fighting is definitely not for me but I couldn't pass on one of Lisa's novels.
There is a lot of gore and violence in this particular book but it's much more to my sensibilities.
It has two wonderful main characters and Joe is absolutely adorable and you'd never realise the insecurities that wrack Doc Farriday. They are wonderful together.
Joe is a sweetheart with the family from hell who've set their sights on his destruction but they do get their comeuppance, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading.
A great tale has been weaved once again. Lisa knows just how to engage her readers and keep them coming back for more.
This book is packed with romance, crime and intrigue.
50 down and impatiently waiting for number 51, Lisa.
Another wonderful MM shifter story by this incredible author.
I can honestly say that I own EVERY book Lisa Oliver has written and each one has been an absolute joy to read. She was the first ever mm shifter writer l discovered and I have been addicted to her books ever since.. All her stories have a wonderful cast of supporting characters, fabulous scene setting and main characters you can totally invest in whilst they journey towards their HEA. Each book has the right amount of romance, sexy scenes, excitement, occasional violence and humour. Many topics are covered throughout all her books and it all contributes to an extremely entertaining read. If you haven't read one of her books and you enjoy MM shifter romance i highly recommend you invest in this author's work... Thoroughly enjoyed this latest book and revisiting Arrow Town!! Absolutely love all the characters and the storyline was, once again, totally engaging right til the end! Cannot wait for another book to be released by Lisa Oliver... A truly gifted and imaginative author!!
This book is a delightful return to Arrowtown! Please understand that the ONLY reason this book received a three star rating instead of four is that the author broke my expectations for this newest book in the series. Based on her previous books, I was expecting to have Rocky or Brutus (the bear shifter... I can't remember his name sadly) to be the main character to find his mate; since all of the other books were about Ra's pack. Instead we are concentrating on the doctor and the deputy of the town. It is still a sweet story and puts a nice closure to the deputy's family drama.
I enjoyed this book. It is more of a romance book and not about people trying to take over the world. It is about two men realizing what they mean to each other. There are bad guys in the story. Joe is a deputy sheriff and a buffalo shifter. Doc is a doctor and a Komodo dragon shifter. They are fated mates but Doc rejects Joe because he is afraid that his dragon will hurt him or worse. Joe is injured on the job one night and Doc rethinks his position on mating. Joe’s family was involved in crime before they were banished and now some members are coming after Joe. Doc is now firmly committed to Joe and the two are ready to face anything. I am liking this whole series.
This book 4 in the arrowtown series focuses on Doc Farraday and Deputy Joe Quincy.
Doc has known for years that Joe is his mate but rejects his advances because Doc is worried about his deadly Spirit Animal and the fact that Joe is so much younger than him. That all changes when Joe is attacked by a member of his own family and is poisoned. When Joe's family attack again it's up to Joe, Doc and friends to find out what's going on and in the meantime Doc discovers he is pregnant. Recommended.
Yes, Ladies and gents Lisa has done it again. She has given us another fantastic read of hot men, lots of loving and a touch of intrigue. When the town Dr. finally let's down old guards and let's in a young deputy into his life. He finally let's himself enjoy life ands comes to realize there is no need to hide his animal side. Meanwhile the lonely deputy after a brutal attack and other troubles from his exiled family. Learns he is not alone, his mate loves him as well as the rest of the town.
I waited impatiently for this release. I stayed up all night reading it and I will just say if you haven’t read the series stop, go get book 1 and start from there. This is a full amazing story but previously introduced characters come back in. Joe does not have an easy time of it. He was rejected by his mate. It hurts him to the core. After a nasty incident that nearly kills him, Doc pulls his head together and seeks him out. Doc brings Joe back from the brink and things change for them as mates. That doesn’t mean enemies are through wreaking havoc. I love this series.
As a big lover of mpreg shifter stories, this has it all. a grumpy, older, unusual shifter who has rejected his young mate. the youn mate who is heart broken as well as doubting his own worth because of his cruel family. together, they put each other back together and see that their community does not judge them as they think they do. the formula is not new, the usual angst, horror, hot bedroom scenes as well as Dr surgery scenes, hero's coming to rescue and to me a surprise pregnancy. Read it and enjoy.
I love the arrowtown shifters and the little hybrids being born. This story pulls you in saddened for deputy Joe because his true mate turned him down. Who happens to be a komodo dragon and the Doctor of the town. It's a different story when his mate is hurt and slowly dying it brings them together. Joe's family is out to kill him and causing damage and mayhem throughout the town. A must read series truly excellently written. You won't be disappointed.😀
Lisa Oliver, the best author ever, is the reason that I choose this book to buy/read. I am a fan and devoted follower of books produced by Lisa Oliver. I love intrigue and romantic happily after and Ms. Oliver provides all of that and more. If you are looking for a good book to read, I highly recommend purchasing Lisa Oliver's books, you will enjoy and treasure each one.
It's about time Joe found someone for himself, and Nathan opened his heart, eyes and emotions toward him. Families your born into can be a complete mess and than a mate says no. What a way to live. Though things straighten out you find yourself on the edge of your seat hoping for Joe and Nathan . Well written as always . Can't wait for the next book about Arrow town and all it has to offer.
This is a funny, sexy story about love denied. Grumpy Doc is fearful about many things about young Deputy Joe so he rejects him in a hurtful way. Young Deputy Joe has deep insecurities due to the family he grew up with so when he is rejected by his True Mate he is devastated and stays away from Doc. Lovely story about true love and hot sex!
As always you have succeeded in another great one! I wasn't sure when I met Doc in the previous books that I would like him, especially for the sweet deputy, but as I've learned to expect you've combined their hearts and lives beautifully. And again congratulations from somebody who has and loves all 50!!!!😍💖
This is an amazing book! READ IT. Okay, I finished my impromptu scream of love, now going forward with this mini-review, you should give this book a chance because it is as amazing and wonderful as the other previous books. Because it has new concepts on ideas already used that make everything so sparkly and brand new for me, which I know isn't much but you should know. ^^
All of the series by Lisa oliver are fully consuming, letting you feel a connection to each character. They are well written and definitely worth reading. I've loved every series and this one is no exception! Can't wait for the next books to arrive!
This was so good and not what I was expecting. I wasn't expecting the family conflict but it added so much depth to the story. I loved how quickly Doc apologized once he realized the pain, insecurity, and uncertainty he caused Joe. And how he grew emotionally toward his mate. Definitely ready for the next book.
I just knew this one would be good and it did not disappoint! Joe has worked so hard to be honest and good and trustworthy especially with his crooked relatives, but he still doesn’t understand his worth. Doc hasn’t helped matters either. I loved how this all worked out. Delightful story!
No I’m not saying what type of reptile he is. That is one of the positives of the early part of the story; trying to guess what type of shifter Doc is. It is also part of why he tried to ignore his and Joe’s mate true bond for so long. If that doesn’t whet your appetite to read this damned great romance, I don’t know what will and believe me it was great.
Once again Ms. Oliver has delivered another great story. The two MC are so wonderful together, showing that age and differences sometimes do not matter. Congratulations on this being your 50th mm/mmm book, I hope there are many more to come
Lisa you have managed yet again to make a wonderful story. The characters are just amazing! Joe and the doc are such wonderful characters, who would have thought that 2 such different species could meld so well.
