The mystery, magic and myth of Manannán. The sea is a powerful, driving force for many people, a source of sustenance as well as danger. It is no surprise that Manannán, the Celtic God of the sea, should be an important figure but one who is also as ambiguous as the element he is associated with: a trickster, a magic worker, an advisor and a warrior. In this book you will get to know the many faces of Manannán, called the son of the ocean, and learn of his important place in mythology and the pivotal role he plays in many events. 'This highly intelligent but accessible book belongs on the shelves and nightstands of lovers of Celtic myth.' Courtney Weber, author of Brigid: History, Mystery, and Magic of the Celtic Goddess
My name is Morgan Daimler. I have had my poetry and prose published in different places including various anthologies, Circle magazine, Witches and Pagans magazine and Pagan Dawn magazine. I am the author of the urban fantasy series Between the Worlds and (through Cosmic Egg Books) the high fantasy novel Into Shadow. I've written more than a dozen non-fiction works through Moon Books including Fairy Witchcraft, Pagan Portals: the Morrigan, Fairies: A Guide to the Celtic Fair Folk, A New Dictionary of Fairies, and Pagan Portals Aos Sidhe
Like the book on Irish deities by the same author, this one was a disjointed mess. Not the best flow between paragraphs and chapters, and just throwing lots of names out there with no clear indication on who these deities were.
I am so excited to finally be able to write a review for Manannan mac Lir, by Morgan Daimler! This book was amazing. I knew it was going to be chock full of brilliant, practical information, backed up with academia as Daimler is known to do and I wasn't disappointed at all.
I've learned so many about mac Lir from this little book - only 96 pages, and yet I feel as if enough was packed into here to help me add a significant amount of work to my practice, which has me excited and tired if I'm honest. I feel that while this book is a great starting point, it's honestly just a beginning at diving (pun intended) deeper into the myth and lore of this awe-inspiring deity.
5 Triquetras, highly recommend this one for the Irish polytheist, or anyone who wants to learn about an Irish deity that isn't as well known!
There is a lot of misinformation about Celtic Paganism out there, I often find myself grimacing at obvious misunderstandings or bold claims with lack of any citations, You will not find any of that in this book the few things I disagreed with the author usually was aware of the position I held, and showed why they disagreed, Can't find a better initiates book on Manannan, I can't recommend more highly.
As I have said before you can't go wrong with a pagan portals book and the author is a fave of mine, while they do not write with any wit or charm Morgan clearly knows her stuff and does the research as well as adding living reflections . This book really helped me to connect to this ancient God
If you're interested in learning about Manannan mac Lir, this is a lovely place to start - decent bibliography for a pagan book, nicely organized, and good at separating out the personal from the mythological.
Easy to follow. Gives a great overview on Manannan, his stories and his character. Paired with the useful tips included in the book it is a perfect starting point for every celtic pagan.
4.5 Purtroppo è molto breve, ma fa il suo lavoro. Consigliato assolutamente a chi volesse saperne di più, anche se avrei voluto qualche dettaglio aggiuntivo.
With tons of information and research, easy to follow , good enough for a beginner, perfect for a long time Celtic witch/pagan, this book deserves to be every shelf.
