Rocio Bonilla, geboren 1970 in Barcelona, ist Illustratorin und Autorin zahlreicher Kinderbücher. Sie hat Kunst mit Fokus auf Illustration an der Universität Barcelona studiert. Vor der Veröffentlichung ihres ersten Buches hat sie als Malerin, Fotografin, Pädagogin und in der Werbebranche gearbeitet. Ihr erstes Kind hat sie schließlich dazu inspiriert, zur Kunst zurückzukehren. 2010 veröffentlichte sie ihr Kinderbuch-Debüt.

EN: After studying Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona, Rocio Bonilla worked in fields such as photography and advertising. Since 2010 she has forged two careers as an illustrator of children's books and a painter of murals.

Inicié mi trayectoria profesional a través de diversas disciplinas como la pintura, el muralismo, la fotografía, la pedagogía y, finalmente, la publicidad, que me mantuvo apartada de los lápices durante 12 años.

La maternidad fue el factor que produjo el viraje definitivo en mi carrera. Fascinada por el imaginario infantil, abandoné la publicidad y creé “Érase una vez”, una empresa dedicada a decorar espacios infantiles con murales pintados a mano.

En 2010 entré en el ámbito editorial. Desde entonces, he compaginado la ilustración de álbumes infantiles con la pintura de murales.

Como ilustradora he publicado diversos trabajos en revistas como El Mueble, Acosta’t y Barça Kids, cartelería y una cuarentena de libros con diversas editoriales.

Como autora he publicado cinco títulos: “Cara de pájaro”, “La montaña de libros más alta del mundo” y “¿De qué color es un beso?” (Premio del Ministerio de Cultura y Educación a los libros mejor publicados 2015), “Max y los superhérores” y “Mi amigo extraterrestre”, también ilustrados por mí, y traducidos en varios países.

Trabajo principalmente para los niños. Mis tres hijos son mis mayores críticos y mis mayores fans. También me ganan al memory, sobretodo el pequeño. Me gusta cocinar, hacer ositos de crochet y escuchar a Billie Holliday. Si fuera un animal sería un periquito. No me canso de dibujar.

this is a sweet book that i probably would have adored if i’d read it as a kid. as an old and shriveled adult, the story itself doesn’t do much for me: little boy is obsessed with wanting to fly; he tries to make wings, he asks for wings for christmas, and is finally given a book by his mother, a woman who, admirably, prioritizes reading over goo goo gah gah time:



and who assures him, There are other ways to fly, Lucas.



he’s a fast convert to this metaphorical, imagination-as-flight concept, and from that moment on, his obsessive pursuits are channelled into reading; he’s a total book addict, always wanting MORE,



until he has amassed, dunh DUNH - the highest mountain of books in the wooooorld, where, perched atop his stack, he ignores the elements and the dangers, and just reads, reads, reads.



it’s cute, and as someone who has been a booknerd since childhood:



look, i am reading in a tree!

i certainly approve of the message, but it just didn’t captivate or delight my grizzled heart the way other books intended for kiddies have. again, baby-karen would probably have loved this and read it in a number of different trees.

i liked the art a lot more than the words (worst booknerd ever, i know), and it was cute to track his reading journeys by the beloved characters depicted alongside him throughout the book:



it’s a medium three - pretty enough, but definitely one more for the kiddies in your lives.

Incantevole!

Un libriccino per bambini (anche cresciuti) davvero molto, molto carino che ho scoperto, e così cercato, grazie alla segnalazione di un prezioso contatto qui su Goodreads!
Una pubblicazione di pregio, sia per il contenuto che per la delicata bellezza delle illustrazioni, che parla di amore per la lettura e quanto esso possa far volare in alto la nostra anima che ha un bisogno smisurato di nutrirsi di bellezza e conoscenza. Non servono ali, "ci sono altri modi per volare", e nessun aereo potrà mai portarci tanto lontano quanto le pagine di un libro.
L'autrice, Rocio Bonilla, nata a Barcellona nel 1970 e dedita alle illustrazioni per l'infanzia, trasmette un grande messaggio attraverso la piccola storia di Lucas. Ho sempre sostenuto la necessità di regalare libri, in particolare ai bambini. Un libro è per sempre, ancor più di qualsiasi diamante.

Beim Stöbern in der Kinderbuch-Ecke stieß ich auf dieses wunderschöne Buch, das schon allein mit seinen Illustrationen besticht und überzeugt.

Lukas wünscht sich Fliegen zu können und bekommt von seiner Mutter ein Buch geschenkt. Er beginnt zu lesen und verschwindet damit in die Welt der Fantasie. Er fliegt, er taucht und lässt sich von Familie, Freunden wie Fremden immer mehr Bücher geben, die er geradezu inhaliert. Bis er auf einem endlos hohen Bücherberg sitzt und endlich begreift, warum ihn seine Mutter ein Buch und keine Flügel geschenkt hat.

This is another picture book with gorgeous illustrations. It's about a boy named Lucas who wants to fly more than anything in the world. When his mother tells him "there's more than one way to fly" and hands him a book, he finds himself caught up in a new kind of adventure.

Like a few other picture books that celebrate reading, this story will delight young readers. Kids will love watching Lucas shift his obsession of flying to one of experiencing the world through books. It's a lovely story that celebrates the joys of reading. Perfect for fans of The Snatchabook.

Ilustraciones maravillosas y una historia sencilla me parece una gran fórmula para ir introduciendo a los más pequeños a la lectura, sobre todo para ese clásico momento que los míos me exigen cada día antes de irse a dormir. Een verrukkelijk en magisch boek over een jongen die wilt vliegen en vervolgens een hele andere manier van vliegen ontdekt... namelijk lezen! Ja, want lezen brengt je, gratis en voor niks, naar mooie nieuwe landen, nieuwe vrienden, en meer. Ik vond het heerlijk om te zien hoe deze jongen bleef lezen en nog meer ging lezen en vervolgens een berg had. Ik ken het heel goed, al zou ik zelf niet op mijn boeken zitten of ze buiten houden, als je eenmaal leest, dan wil je niet ophouden. Vooral niet als het boek erg goed is.
Ik vond het leuk om allerlei verschillende boeken werelden te zien. Van Kingkong tot de Kleine Prins. Wat was het geweldig hoe die jongen helemaal opging in de nieuwe werelden.
Het einde was superzoet, al moest ik wel lachen over hoe hij dus allemaal fans had die hem (en zijn boekenberg) wilden zien.

Lo amé por completo.

La montaña de libros más alta del lundo, habla sobre el concepto de volar a través de las páginas y de vivir junto a ella.
Creo que es de esos libros que nos sacan lágrimas a los lectores que hemos encontrado un refugio en los libros y para los que seguimos creyendo firmemente en su poder.
Me encantó que al final él solo pensara en contar todo lo que había aprendido, fue todo un poema leer a otro lector darse cuenta que lo que amamos es hablar de los libros o sobre el mundo que hemos adorado con alguien.
Es de esos libritos que valoras más en estos momentos donde ves todo de otro modo.

Byłam przekonana, że ta książka jakoś bardziej mnie zachwyci a tymczasem mogę powiedzieć, że była po prostu okej i tyle.

"Najwyższa na świecie wieża z książek" to opowieść o miłości do literatury i dziecięcej wyobraźni. Jak dla mnie jest ona nieco naiwna i chyba właśnie to najbardziej mi przeszkadzało w całej tej historii.

Ilustracje są urocze i na pewno zachwycą niejednego młodszego czytelnika.

I read this last week to our students as the first book of nominees for the Washington State children's choice picture book award. Before I read it, I showed them the publisher's page and explained that this is where I learned that the books was originally in Spanish and that it was translated to English. Then I showed them the back flap where it talks about the author. The students were fascinated that she was from Spain. I love how she visits other books as the story unfolds - the students were not familiar with any of them. This creates a great teaching moment where we can talk about background knowledge. The students hear us talking about background knowledge, but do they know what it is. So I stop at the Moby Dick page and tell them how famous the book is, and even though I have never read it, I know about it and I know the author is implying that he is reading Moby Dick.
We also talked about how the book might be fantasy because a tower that hi couldn't balance him, he would have to come down and eat and sleep, and there is no way his family could float a chicken dinner to him.
I paired this book with Elise Parsley's If you want to bring a circus to the library, Don't. This put the emphasis on how our imagination can take us anywhere or allow us to do anything when we read.

Lucas loves watching birds and planes soar high above him, convinced he, too, is destined to fly. Over the years, Lucas tries to invent wings in which to soar, but he fails repeatedly. He tries asking Santa for help, but instead of real wings he receives toys. Lucas’s birthday wishes equally fail him. Then on his seventh birthday . . .

Teachers will love The Highest Mountain of Books in the World, despite its needlessly long title. Never does Bonilla “shove” the idea of reading onto readers or little listeners. Instead, Lucas’s story speaks to the powers of reading and the places it can take you. Bonilla’s illustrations are first rate, showing first a rather loud, spoilt boy. While Lucas becomes engrossed in reading, we become engrossed in Lucas and his journey. The Highest Mountain of Books in the World might inspire a young child to begin reading or to read seriously.

Se este livro fosse rico em cor como de história teria as cinco estrelas, mesmo assim a história é tao fabulosa, apesar de simples, que merece uma ótima avaliação. As ilustrações são lindas mas demasiado neutras para acompanhar uma história tão cheia de sonhos e expectativas, principalmente para as crianças, que pode tornar-se menos aliciante ou não para algumas delas ou mesmo quando alguém não conhece o livro e despreza pela capa demasiado simplória. Aconselho imenso esta leitura pela escrita simples e pela fabulosa mensagem que passa: a beleza, a liberdade e a imaginação que ler pode trazer ao nosso dia a dia!

Βλέμματα σπιρτόζικα, αγαπημένες παιδικές συνήθειες όπως το αγκάλιασμα μιας κούκλας ή η ευτυχία κάτω από το χριστουγεννιάτικο δέντρο, οικεία σημεία όπως το σαλόνι, η στέγη, το παιδικό δωμάτιο, το πάρκο που όλα είναι γεμάτα από φροντισμένες και ταιριαστές λεπτομέρειες, και τόσα άλλα πλαισιώνουν έναν φιλομαθή Ερρίκο και αναπαριστούν ένα ξεχωριστό, ιδιαίτερο σύμπαν από το οποίο κανένας μικρός αναγνώστης δε θα θέλει να φύγει αν δεν τελειώσει την ιστορία.

«Το ψηλότερο βουνό βιβλίων στον κόσμο» είναι ο καλύτερος τρόπος για να φτάσει κανείς πραγματικά ψηλά, διαβάζοντας, ανακαλύπτοντας, μαθαίνοντας.
