The God of Pain's Groom

Rate this book
BASED ON THE NOVEL BY DEMONICBLACKCAT.

For centuries, the Clandor families have provided brides to the Khaol, The God of Pain. The Clandors have always bred beautiful females: they’re pale-skinned, golden haired, and mild-mannered.

That is, until one day, Forrest Clandor refuses to be wedded and attend a typical high school house party instead. Fortunately, her twin brother River Clandor is up for the task. He pretends to be Forrest and step up to ‘marry’ Khaol. He doesn’t believe that the whole thing is real, until Khaol really does show up and accepts him as his groom.

Can River handle being married to a mercurial, short-tempered God? And how did his family end up in this situation anyway? Also, why doesn’t Khaol seem to mind that he just married a guy?

5⭐

Warning: a lot of cursing cause I’m angry.

DNF chapter 80

No. Just no.

It was getting good and the author added, yet again, another fucking drama.

Go figure, didn’t know what to fucking add to prolong this goddam book, so they decided to go with an unnecessary love triangle. Unnecessary because EVERYONE FUCKING KNOWS HOW ITS GOING TO FUCKING END.

Let me guess, after this drama gets resolved. Another love triangle appears. And rinse and repeat.

MC should have stayed single, let the tops feel pain, and get his revenge through that way.

Ugh.

1.5 stars (this is gonna be a rant)

I had two emotions while reading this

description
> second
description
I tried to read this seriously... it's just...lord
This story is so ridiculous

And don't get me wrong I'm not even talking about the plot, which in itself is something (other reviewers have better rants on that) I'm here to rant on the art, because have you seen it? There were some choices made.

For instance Heil's claws???? They go up??? What, is he trying to poke his eyes out? Who's the author trying to hurt really?

And what the hell is that fox monster thing?! LMAO

Or like when River ran after Khaol through the city and just managed to somehow rip up his shoes so much that in the end there wasn't much of them left and he started bleeding..HUHH ?!?!?
What are his shoes made of?? Paper? The fuck

And like don't get me started on that girl at the birthday party and the way the webtoon was so hyper focused on the fact that she has BIG bOUNcy boobs.
If you're trying to go full on balloon ecchi like Highschool of the Dead, then commit to it for the whole thing, damn it. 😭😭
Also, that poor grandma and her eyes 💀💀💀 i though it was drawn intentionally in the beginning, but nope

Not to totally rant on the entire thing - the premise was interesting, otherwise I would not have looked it up in the first place. And sometimes the art wasn't half as bad (like Khaol's hair, for example)

But damn, i don't know why or how I keep finding these types of webtoons *sobs*

When I got to the chapters you have to pay with ink on Tapas I just couldn't bother anymore

I definitely will NOT recommend this novel to anyone because the storyline is just mehhh. At first, it started out as a funny comic with the Khaol and River having some funny, sometimes cute, and sometimes serious moments and you could tell that River loved him a lot. But by the end of season 1, the author lost the plot. Maybe because of some fan service and in a bid to make some more money, she decides to stray from the novel and change the entire storyline by stretching it till it can stretch no more.

I am just here wondering how she managed to change the male lead by bringing in a second male lead and making him the male lead for River. It's even worse because this second god, Heil, is a self-righteous, judgemental casanova and if she is going to separate River from Khaol, she should have introduced a better character to take his place.

Also, what happened to River just being alone an independent god instead of being hitched to a shitty god? Why is she still making Khaol pine for River if she has no intention of bringing them back together? Why make him realize his feelings now? What purpose does that serve? Does she intend to bring them back together?

I loooooooved the first season but from the second season, I couldn't even stomach it anymore. It has degenerated into trash and I am surprised readers aren’t telling the author the truth. It's okay to write something different from the norm, like making the second male lead the endgame but there is a better way to go about it. Heil is definitely not the best choice of River!

I have more complaints but let me just stop here.

Starting out, I thought this would be a pretty average series in terms of BL. Sure the art was good and the protagonist (River) had some personality, but still. It seemed typical, since a human falls in love with a god because they get married accidentally in a contract that River didn't know was real, blah blah. But I'm glad I still tried it out anyways.

Because I was not at all ready for the ride GOPG actually gave me. Just wow. I became absolutely hooked, buying every available episode on Tapas within the span of a single week (60+ chapters for 300 ink each, all done with offers, no real money).

I gotta say, it's one of the best webcomics I've ever read. And I've read dozens, from the BL genre to action to fantasy to sci-fi and so on. And holy smokin' moly, it was worth every drop of ink and every hour spent obtaining said ink (and believe me it took ages sometimes to get the ink through offers).

Season Two is an absolutely wild ride after the end of the First Season. And while Two starts off verrrrry roughly (the only part of this series I don't like at all), if you stick with it anyways, you'll be rewarded. Big time.

I couldn't recommend this series enough. Kudos to Cat, the author, and Clover for the beautiful art bringing these characters to life! <3

**spoilers**

When I started this story I was really liking River and Khaol together, then I understood I was wrong and changed my mind. River and Heil should have been the real couple from the first chapter. I didn't give a sh*t about Khaol and his happiness with Kaveri. He was a di*k and I wouldn't have minded for him to stay dead forever. When I was starting to like the story again, the author kinda killed it with the finale. Ok sorry but no WTF IS THIS FINALE FFS I w8 ages to see this go to sh*t? They could have ended it any other way...But Heil gave his power to his daughter, and became mortal to be able to reincarnate and stay with River that had died once his sister was dead bcs she was the last one believing in him as a god. NOPE HATED IT, I wanted both of them as never ending gods of the underworld together. FU*K THIS.

4 stars because the art deserves it, but the plot...Oh Boys the author went on a trip and not a good one.

TOTALMENTE RECOMENDADO.

I loved this so much. The art was gorgeous and the storyline engaging with plenty of free episodes (read on Tapas). I really appreciated how the author followed the natural progression of the storyline and managed to give everyone involved a happy ending.

The title is GOD OF PAIN’S GROOM. IDK what was going on in the middle when River ‘died’ and then got all cosy with the God of Hell and then they ended up together? Did the author’s forget the title?? Or loose the plot somewhere? The storytelling was great but the storyboard was NOT.

Fin

Let me tell you this was one satisfying ending. The initial chapters had me pulling my hair out, IT WAS SO DAMN FRUSTRATING TO SEE RIVER BEING TREATED LIKE TRASH. Didn’t liked Khaol’s character from the start, an immature self loathing a**hole, an entitled man(God)child. I mean IS IT THAT HARD TO NOT TREAT YOUR HUSBAND LIKE HES SOME OBJECT WHOSE SOLE PURPOSE ON THIS PLANET IS BE A PLOT DEVICE, a bare tool used to make your 1300 years old self feel better. I wanted him to suffer a little more but Im happy that Kaveri got to be happy in the end. He deserved to be free, not bound by the chains of someone else’s obsession over him.

*Spoilers****

Also , I was literally praying that River does not end with that piece of sh*t. River and Heil are the cutest and i love them so much❤️❤️❤️❤️🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽 They deserve to be happy and in love and be each other’s safe place.

Overall a very good read that also raised some important questions on Humanity and God and how we view both of them in relation to each other. But the trope of a barely legal adult getting together w someone decades older (A God , but nonetheless still older) still seems inappropriate to me. But overall a satisfying read.

I binge read this entire manga/comic in one sitting and don't regret it. The complex characters, the twisting story plot, everything sucks you in and doesn't let you go until the very end. Even when I was done reading the end of season 2, the story stayed with me. I highly recommend this series to anyone who delights in becoming totally engaged with the characters in the story.

I loved this story so much. It shows that love really does make life better. You can love someone and hate them with all your might at the same time. And you can love more then 1 person at a time. Love is different for everyone. And you can always try and make up for the bad things you do.
