slightly too dense and repetitive but a very thorough and eye-opening look into the incredible Korean struggle for national liberation and the construction of socialism, which was remarkably and inspiringly successful during the 40s-70s
Super informative and fascinating look at the Korean overthrow of Japanese colonialism and the early establishment of socialism. The DPRK had the advantage of learning from the land reform/collectivization mistakes of China and the USSR and that many of their capitalist class escaped to South Korea, allowing for a smooth transition to socialism. This book was really helpful in better understanding the political economy of socialism, largely owing to being able to refer to concrete examples.
this may be a bit dated (and repetitive at some points) but it was an interesting “historical” perspective on north korea with a lot of straightforward facts many modern books about the country don’t include
