Meet Digger and Daisy! They are brother and sister. These dogs like to explore their world and see new things. Sometimes they agree with each other. Sometimes they disagree. But no matter the situation, one thing always stays the same--their love for each other. In playful, simple stories written especially for the K-1 audience, author Judy Young explores the dynamics and nuances of the sibling relationship. In Digger and Daisy Go Camping, it's summertime and the siblings head out to the woods to camp. Daisy says it will be fun but Digger isn't too sure. There might be bears. Digger and Daisy hike and swim and camp. But when it comes time for bed, Digger has a hard time falling asleep. Is it a bear?

Colorful illustrations accompany a simple and brief story with which many youngsters can relate. Digger and Daisy, two dogs, decide to use their leisure time during the summer to go camping. Digger is excited about this new adventure, but he's also afraid and sees signs of bears at every turn. No matter what the two siblings do, Digger thinks there's a bear nearby. Daisy provides gentle reassurance that this is not the case, calming Digger down. When they go to bed, Digger comforts himself as he hears strange sounds since he knows that the sounds can be traced to ordinary causes. When Daisy hears growling in the night, the roles are reversed, and Digger needs to reassure her about the origin of the sounds that are frightening her. This is a good title for early readers and one that won't leave them bored.
Siblings Digger and Daisy go camping. First of all, I like that in this camping book they actually stay out camping. I've come to expect that in camping stories that the tent will end up set up in the house by the end, but these two dogs stick the night out. Second of all, I love that this is also a story in which the siblings are friends and go on an adventure together. We need more and more siblings getting along books.
Daisy takes younger brother Digger on a camping trip and he is afraid of seeing a bear. Each time he thinks he hears one, big sister calms his fears and points out the thing in the woods that he actually saw. In the middle of the night, Daisy wakes up afraid of a bear sound that she heard, and this time Digger will reassure her that it is not a bear. It has a cute and humorous ending.
It’s Ok, for a small preschooler or very beginning reader. It’s just not a very interesting introduction to camping, and its approach is very very similar to “Pete the Cat Goes Camping”, released a year earlier. Reading them both within two days of each other felt like deja vu.
