Nothing will stop me now from being healthy.

In June 2018, I was speaking to a friend in South Africa. She was telling me that both her brother and sister had started using The Real Meal Revolution. Her brother had been warned about the dangers of being very overweight and her sister was diabetic. Both decided to try the Real Meal Revolution, a very easy way to lose weight and regain good health at the same time. My friend’s brother lost 45kgs and his health has improved dramatically. But the real success story is her sister, who by losing over 25kgs has managed to change the way her diabetes is being handled.

Taking inspiration from these stories I bought the Real Meal Revolution book and downloaded the free sheets from the website on what you can eat as much as you like: the Green List. You can eat but with care: The Orange List and Don’t touch, The Red and Very Red Lists. There’s also a greylist which is a “maybe you shouldn’t” list.

I started following the plan shortly after I spoke to my friend and since then have lost 10kgs. I’m grateful that I’ve lost the weight, but it’s the health benefits that have truly astounded me. I’ve had chronic fatigue for about twenty years, this has almost disappeared. My diverticular disease has not flared up at all, I had chronic diverticulitis attacks on a weekly, sometimes daily basis. My cholesterol has dropped and I’ve been taken off the “watch-list” for suspected diabetes. None of this would have happened if I’d not studied Jonno Proudfoot’s first book simply titled The Real Meal Revolution.

When I discovered that Jonno had written a new book with 300 recipes that contain no sugar and are also gluten-free, I immediately ordered it.

This is one of the most sensible recipe books I’ve ever owned. The photos of the various dishes are mouth-watering and will inspire even the laziest cook to get into the kitchen to try out the recipes. The recipes are set out brilliantly and easy to follow. It follows the Green List, starting with recipes for Artichokes and ending with Zucchinis. Also included are lots of recipes for beef, lamb, offal, duck, chicken and pork.

Jonno goes to great lengths to explain blanching and steaming and the one that fascinated me the most, caramelisation. Suddenly, from finding the kitchen a boring place just making things to fill me, I’ve found a new love – cooking and creating some truly delicious dishes. However, the biggest treat of all is that what I’m now making is not only delicious but also healthy and helping me lose the extra kilos/pounds I’ve carried around for far too long.

This book, plus the original Real Meal Revolution book is essential for anyone who would like to live a very healthy lifestyle while eating delicious food.

It’s not just people who are overweight or diabetic who will benefit from the recipes included in this book, but also children who have been diagnosed ADHD. There has been a huge change in my granddaughter diagnosed with ADHD and my son who is Autistic. Both have shown behavioural changes in their daily lives thanks to eating a better and healthier diet.

BUY THE BOOK! You don’t have to ever feel hungry again while dieting. No! Forget the word dieting – just eat green, a bit of orange and no red – never red!

Having read a fair representation of the scientific evidence, I'm a believer in low-carb, high-fat eating. These books and papers do not provide specific diet advice, i.e. they don't tell you exactly what foods you should eat. This leaves a newly-converted person in a quandary over what to eat, particularly when changes appear to be in order.

South African author Jonno Proudfoot is a chef and is one of the primary authors (out of four IIRC) of the first book called The Real Meal Revolution, which was a monster best-seller in South Africa that upset a lot of people. He has continued to carry the torch.

I'm not the sort of person who habitually reads or even thumbs through recipe books. This one, however, got my attention. Much of the food pictured is definitely stuff I would eat (and much that I would not because my taste is somewhat jaded). And the pictures an presentations of dishes are beautifully rendered, the type of thing you would expect to come from a master chef.

As I plowed through these recipes, it appeared to me that most of these dishes are not difficult to cook. And I basically do not cook at all. I have a feeling that if I just pile up the ingredients and follow the simple instructions, I'll have some good food to eat in the end.

So I'm thinking of trying it, which I suppose is itself a high recommendation of the content of the book.
