Join Charlii as she settles back into her magically protected hometown of Honeysuckle Hollow, where a glass of sweet tea can cure almost anything non-magical. She is drawn into another murder investigation, assisting the intellectually appealing detective. But fate also keeps her out of the path of a wolf-shifter, Dash Channing, that captivates the attention of her wild side. It doesn't keep her from missing him.

Someone is determined to steal the town's secrets, including Charli 's tracking abilities. An eerily disturbing Chef swoops into town. Then the chef is killed and the reader is lead down twists and turns through a myriad of possibilities until they actually discover how everything ties together.

Everyone convinces Charli to start her own business using her magical ability to find lost items. She is reluctant but excited and curious at the same time. Will she be able to make a go of it?

The character development and additional characters with each edition add more charm and suspense to the mystery. Join Charli and her gang of friends, including witches, fairies, trolls, vampires, and more.

This is an engaging and well-paced addition to the 'Southern Charms Cozy Mystery' paranormal series. I appreciate that the previous installments were clean and wholesome read. However, this installment slips a few words of unnecessary profanity into the mix, which I for one do not appreciate. This book is able to stand on its own. However, in my opinion, it would be beneficial to read them in order.

Bella Falls delivers a winner with this series and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre!

Well I'm loving this, the characters are just so fun. How has this town every survived with the amount of murders and bad dealings going on. I love the romance triangle and I think it's coming to the point where she needs to choose who she wants because if it goes on much longer someone heart will well and truly be broken.

Charli has to deal with many changes both personally and beyond and Dash is gone without any form of communication with anyone. This story is really giving it's audience something to look forward to. The characters are expanding, the story lines a just wonderful and of course then there is the murder that needs solved. Can Honeysuckle go back to before Mason's declaration? If not even more changes are in store for Charli. Can't wait to see where this goes from here! I voluntarily reviewed this book from Book Sprout.

Picking up with the residents of Honeysuckle Hollow about two months after the conclusion of the previous book, Sweet Tea & Spells opens with Clementine’s bridal shower. Although protagonist Charli doesn’t see eye-to-eye with Clementine’s mother, Aunt Nora, and Clementine is marrying Charli’s ex, Tucker, Charli feels she should make an attempt to connect with her only family. Unfortunately, things go wrong with cake and Aunt Nora blames Charli. This is where we first meet bad guy Duke, a man who keeps secrets on all the powerful people in the wizarding world. So, when Duke turns up dead, there is no shortage of suspects, nor is there a shortage of reasons why he was killed.

The murder mystery aspect of Sweet Tea & Spells was very interesting. The storyline was the most complex to date in this paranormal cozy mystery series. With each suspect, there was a different motive for hating the dead man. He held secrets on many powerful people, as well as having a siren slave who was required to do his dirty work. It took a while for the pieces to fall into place, and I pretty much guessed what had happened, but I liked how this storyline moved and flowed through the book. My only issue was once the criminal was “unmasked,” his demeanor changed one-eighty from belligerent to cooperative. It felt sudden and out of character.

While the murder storyline was fairly involved, the entire book was filled with a number of side stories, some pertaining to the mystery, and others not at all. After a while, I felt that there were too many extraneous side stories, making it overwhelming and difficult to follow everything that was happening.

Another issue I had with the book was the portrayal of the sheriff and the “local police” as completely inept without Mason in town. I want to know when in the past year or so we’ve been visiting Honeysuckle, did Mason become the only detective that knows basic police procedures. The ordeal is used as a plot device to get Charli involved in the case, even after Mason returns. It was weak and disappointing.

I was also frustrated with the developing romantic storyline for this series. In the previous book, Charli grew close to Dash, and I felt like she’d made her choice. But the author kept him out of Sweet Tea & Spells completely, and in steps Mason. And Mason is a “new man,” having returned from a dangerous mission “up north.” He’s rough around the edges, but open and honest with Charli about his past - something Dash refused do previously. Overall, the romantic storyline was subpar, and I felt it brought down the quality of the tale.

Having listened to two previous books in this series, I have come to associate Ms. Parker’s voice with heroine Charli. Her easy-going southern drawl brings Charli, and all of her idiosyncrasies, to life. Additionally, she is able to add just enough emotion into Charli to help identify when she’s frustrated, joyful, sad, etc. Ms. Parker’s narrative style sets the tempo and mood, keeping the cozy mystery light and entertaining. Additionally, she successfully creates a number of unique voices for each of the supporting paranormal creatures.

In the end, I enjoyed listening to Sweet Tea & Spells, despite the few issues I had with the storylines. I definitely want to know what is in store for Charli down the road, I just hope that the romantic storyline is downplayed a bit more, while keeping up the calibre of the mysteries.

My Ratings:
Story: B-
Narration: B+

Charli is back and she is concerned because both of her beaus or wanna be beaus are not in town. Mason is away on a job while
Dash the werewolf is off somewhere. But her cousin is engaged and preparing for her wedding to Charli;s ex, Tucker. At the bridal shower she meets the head chef who was hired, Duke, who makes a move on her. She has bad vibes from him. They get worse when she accidentally (?!) hears him with his helper. She really is beginning to not only not like him but have issues with handling being near him. Then Duke is killed and the clues point to a friend of Charli;s. Drama and danger return once again to the town.
WOW! So much drama and emotional drama too! It weaves in and out until the whole is shown. But what a ride it is!!
Fantabulistic story!!

A fun cozy series that is moving right along. This one was a tad slower than the others and I knew who the culprit was almost from the beginning.

This one was a tad slower than the others in this series but still fun to read. The culprit was fairly obvious almost from the beginning though.

Pro:

Another good addition to the series. We are learning more about the town and characters. We are seeing growth in Charlie with her magic and personality.

I still say this is Sookie Stackhouse with fewer vampires and less spice.

Cons:

I don’t know if there is anything that makes this a 3 star instead of 5 other than it doesn’t give a challenge it just feels like a redo with a few changes. It’s great for a comfort read or background noise.

Sweet tea

What a fun series. I literally could not put it down. There were a lot of twists and turns that kept me wanting more. Although, if you like a lot of magic, this much but on t be you duo of tea, pun intended. I do, and I still loved the series. I have just discovered this writer, and have yet to be disappointed. Her books are hard to put down.

Ugh. I'm going to give this series one more book but I think I'm about to be over it. I rounded up from 2 and a half stars but it has two of the tropes that I dislike most in books - a love triangle and a clueless amateur detective. I don't mind an amateur that knows that they're not an expert but Charli not only runs head first into danger, she likes to lecture the sheriff on how to do his job. Really? REALLY?
The love triangle was less evident in this story since one of the men was not in the story for a lot of it but Charli still thinks about him a lot all while appearing to commit herself to the other man.
Charli's cousin is marrying Charli's ex. But it's actually bringing the cousins closer. Especially since the chef running the rehearsal dinner seems to be so utterly detestable. But that doesn't mean the man should end up dead.

3/5 - Charli is working my nerves

I don’t know if I need a break from this series (yikes if I do this is book 3) but the main plot is the same thing every book. Weird stranger in town. A mystery death. Charli has to be involved in solving the death - why? I don’t know you tell me.

Charli was the biggest annoyance of the book. I can’t do her right now.

Im still Team Bash.

Back to Honeysuckle Hollow for a third time, and I can't say that it's getting any less magical to join Charli and her town for more mysteries and excitement. With the wedding of her cousin, Clementine, and ex-fiance on the horizon, what could go wrong in such a magically inclined town. Especially when Tucker's family has brought in a world renounced chef to cater the affair.

Potential spoilers ahead.

While Charli doesn't exactly get alone with her Aunt Nora, she does get along well with her cousin Clementine, and it's really nice to see the two of them trying to repair some of the bonds in the family despite Clem's mother trying to stop it. After hearing a few things that she shouldn't have between the caterer, Duke, and his employee, Charli grows concerned about his intentions and his overall person. It becomes increasingly her problem when Duke decides to rent one of the buildings on main street that her brother owns and she manages.

The guy is a world class creep of the tallest order when he makes advances on Charli when they're alone. As if it wasn't bad enough he wanted to move in and create direct competition for Sweet Tooth's. Not that he gets that chance. With the soon to be groom looking like he might have done it without remembering and blame being pinned on one of the fairies in town, Charli pushes to try and figure out this mystery so it won't hopefully ruin her cousin's wedding or bring down a friend.

All the while, with Dash having cut off all contact with Charli after leaving, it's left the door wide open for her to explore her feelings with Mason. Though the lingering hurt that Dash has been in contact with a mutual friend but not her does end up distracting her just a hair. But when you like someone, and you thought that they liked you, it's definitely not an easy thing to swallow that they're cutting you out of any communication. Especially knowing they're find talking to a friend at least.

The characters, even the secondary ones, are all still just as vivid and alive in the third installment, maybe even more so because we really dig into the town and some of the town's politics in this third installment of the series. I love that my concern from book two didn't come to pass, because it wasn't the out of towner that did the murder, and I really loved that despite everything, Charli helped to ensure that the wedding wasn't interrupted by the murder, so Clem and Tucker could have their day before everything hit the fan with the fall out of the mystery.

I'm excited to see Clem and Charli bond and heal the family, bringing it back together. Though even with Tucker seemingly in love with Clem, it's still worrisome and odd that he seems to still have feelings for Charli. Not that she needs any more men in her life right now with Mason doing a good job of wooing her and her mind and heart still upset about Dash. I also love that her friends in town were encouraging her to use one of the storefronts on Main Street and have her open a shop so she can really utilize her talents in magic to make a living.

I'm definitely here for the next one and can't wait to see where it all goes both with Charli's business as well as her relationship with Mason. And I do hope we get to see Dash again!

Charli is back and more than murder is about to strike the town. Her cousin, Clementine, is preparing for her upcoming nuptials. The town doesn’t really expect Charli to be in attendance because of who Clementine is marrying…Charli’s ex-fiancée. Turns out that there is a serious troublemaker in town by the name of Duke Aikens. There is something off about him, and it’s rubbing more than a few people the wrong way. It all starts with a cake, and escalates from there to…murder. Duke has more secrets than you can shake a stick at, and a major one gets him killed. The list of suspects is long, and it won’t be easy to dig up who the guilty culprit is, but with a little help, Charli will piece it all together. In the process, she’ll find herself and her heart being gently swept away one small action at a time.
Sweet Tea and Spells is book three in Bella Falls’ A Southern Charms Cozy Mystery series. If you haven’t read the previous books in this series, I highly recommend you backtrack and read them in order. If you don’t then you won’t understand fully what is going on and will feel lost. Charli finds herself in a bit of a situation more than once. The two men who are creeping in on her heart are both out of town. She doesn’t know where either of them is, but it just takes a dead body for one of them, Detective Mason, to show back up. All should be happiness and cheer in preparation for her cousin’s wedding, but things get ugly with a murder. Not that anyone will really miss the deceased. Let’s be real…he’s a sleazeball. Duke had no problems with crowding into someone’s personal space and making threats and innuendo. I have to say that I like the complexity of the story! One of my favorite things is figuring out who committed the crime before it’s revealed, but once again the author keeps me guessing. I love how there are branches of the story to Charli and Mason. The tension and build-up between for just getting CLOSE to a single kiss are killing me! Haha! The budding relationship between the two of them is absolutely a huge plus for me.
There is honestly nothing that I didn’t like about this book. The mystery is well balanced. I love the little clues that the characters are given to piece together what is going on. There is real danger creeping up on Honeysuckle, simply because one wishes to grab up something that is not theirs. I will warn that the author leaves the reader with questions concerning all of this. While I want answers, I am by no means going to ding the author on this. I’m eager to read the next book and find out what happens next.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. This is an enjoyable cozy mystery novel. There is a lot of drama, mystery, and surprises. The characters are well developed and continue to grow. If you’ve read the series up to this book, then I highly recommend you pick this book up and dive in. If you haven’t read this series yet, then I suggest you go to the beginning and come on down. The weather is fine and the tea is sweet.

I haven't seen it in other comments so I must state it from a personal bad history. I read the second and now the third book. I'll put aside how obnoxious and arrogant Charlie is, and no it's not sweet but shows how self centred she is (and of course everyone loves her), and look in an overview the overall plot of the third and the second book. Putting an exaggerated character of Duke as the violent man, while Dash is romantic and lovable, betrayes the so-called feministic line the author details. I guess the author doesn't know what is a violent partner. It's not a Duke from the start. It's not black and white. If she had any idea what is domestic violence, she would emphasise more why Dash is a violent abusive man. I'm glad that now Maison is at the centre stage because this is a healthy relationship. But there is no real condemning to Dash's behaviour, explaining why he is dangerous and why the readers should see the difference. But while Duke is emphasised as the pure evil, Dash is sugar coated and hugged. In reality he needs to come with a warning sign. He can potentially be the one who kills her. I recommend the author to read and hear the stories of domestic violence survivors to understand why her writing encourages women to go to violent toxic relationships that will ruin their lives. I can't shake that feeling of ignorance and lack of responsibility, no matter how much I loved the books. Feminism is condemning violent partners and not just sisterhood and other cliches.

There's a character that appears early, name of Duke. His ego is the size of a red giant star. He takes smary to entirely new dimensions. He takes all the praise for the food that 'he' has prepared even though someone else has actually done all the work.

On the other hand there's Charli, a woman that has already proven her abilities in the town and who Matt is now trying to convince to open up her own 'finding' business.

So Duke ends up dead. The main problem in trying to finding his murderer is that there basically isn't any one who like him. Not one person. No crying over his dead body.

Matt fills in Charli about his past, which is a good thing for him to do. On the other hand there's an organization in Charleston that wants to take over the town since they feel they need more 'living space' (an excuse Hitler used for invading various countries.)

So, all Charli and Matt have to do is find out who killed Duke, what weapon they used, find a 'black book' he kept of people he blackmailed, learn how to fly on a broom (Charli) and deal a drunk ex (Charli's ex), all while they are having to deal with a possible hostile takeover.

As usual the characters are done well and Charli's tracking ability makes the series different than the usual 'witch-with-powers' approach.

The previous books in this series I thought should be YA. I’ve changed my mind as the main character is such a bad example for young women! She listens to nobody, but not in a strong woman kind of way, but like a petulant child. She constantly puts friends in danger and when held accountable she runs off and pouts about how they hurt her. She comes across as the most pathetic and desperate type of woman. The slightest attention from any man and she begins dramatically envisioning their future. Of course every man she encounters is in love with her, and she is described in the absolute most pick me way ever. Tiny, no make up and always hanging with the guys. She always has to push limits, then needs to be rescued by a man. She’s incapable of making a single decision without a man’s input. And she swears she’s a “grown woman” while acting 12, living with her grandmother and riding a bicycle for transportation. I listened on audible and the narrator is intolerable on regular speed, but on 1.2 it sounds like a regular voice.

Well the time has come and Tucker and Clem are getting married so what does Charli do...attends the bridal shower cause we know thats going to go well don't we! While Charli acts as cool as a glass of sweet tea the smarmy chef Duke tries to put the moves on her as well as stealing the locals baking tricks which results in Clems cake exploding eek! Unfortunately for Duke his stay in the quaint town doesn't last long as he ends up dead and yup Charli finds him, she then decides she needs to help the Wardens as Mason is out of town and Big Willie seems out of his depths actually investigating. From here we have plenty of lol moments, tense times, twists you don't see coming, warning of changes coming to the Town and the best part Charli starting to work out who she really is and what she wants from life!!

An enjoyable read!

Charli Goodwin has more than enough to deal with, from the apparent loss of a best friend to the upcoming nuptials of her ex-fiance and estranged cousin. NOW there's a murder and Mason is m.i.a., leaving a less than competent police force in charge since Charli's brother Matt is excluded due to a conflict of interest. Add in having to prepare a class of teens to get their spellcasting licences, getting a handle on her own steadily expanding talents, and considering a new business start-up, and Charli cannot possibly have time or energy for sleuthing...right?! These characters are such fun and are evolving nicely, the relationships are realistic, and murder mystery is rather involved and holds the reader's interest. The subtle allusions to stormy times ahead for both the town and Charli are intriguing; it's definitely time to begin uncovering Charli's backstory. This series goes from strength to strength!

I found this book on Booksprout while I was making a review for someone else. This is my first book of Bella Falls, though this is book 3! (I will be purchasing the others:).
I have not read any books of this genre before, so was not sure what to expect. Well I was hooked from page one, but I know I need to read the first two, so I know what is happening/happened. But, you can read this as a standalone if you wish.I found the characters worked well together and the plot was very good.I did feel that I was pulled into the story and that helps me focus on he characters. It's brilliantly written romance with intrigue and suspense I think there will?/should be a next book to carry on with the main characters, Charli and Mason ( would love to see them develop. Can't wait to read the others.

Selling information or worse?

Great read. Attending her cousin's engagement party has left her with mixed feelings. At one stage she had been the one in her cousin's place. The feelings intensified with the arrival of the chef in charge of the catering. Obnoxious, rude and arrogant. Is it any surprise that just hours later his dead body was found? Who killed him and why? Was it due to the book he had? Suspects galore, the town is in meltdown as another town tries to take over, evidence being planted are just some of the things she has to face, alongside the handsome detective. Great plot with some nice twists but don't expect all the answers as this is a continuing storyline. That comes alive with the characters in it.

The upcoming wedding of Charli’s ex-fiance Tucker to her cousin is right around the corner and Charli is trying to be at her best. When the death of the caterer/soon to be local restaurateur happens just before the nuptials all chaos unwinds.

Charli finds herself on the case when Tucker is acting suspiciously and seems to be prime suspect number one. Can she put her feelings aside and work once again with Warden Mason to solve the case?

This is a delightful cozy that is filled with mystery, suspense, mystical beings, humorous moments, and lots of magic. It is light-hearted, very whimsy, and keeps you reading with all the mayhem.

Waiting for the shoe to drop

The first book where the character who is murdered really deserved it. It seems like Charli didn't try to get in the middle of this one but circumstances conspired against her. When an entitled Chef is murdered in the store she manages for her brother Matt, Charli and Mason work together to solve the case while other disturbing events come to light. With the wedding of her cousin to her ex dawning, her Grandma battling a hostile takeover, and her love life still unresolved, thinking about starting her own business just seems to add to her growing list of concerns.

It takes awhile but the pieces finally come together to a point where Charli begins to question if she is truly helping her town.

This is another great book in this series. I am enjoying the characters and the mysteries are extremely well-done and hard to figure out. Can't wait to read the next one!

Amazon synopsis:
With her ex-fiancé’s wedding to her cousin on the horizon, Charli Goodwin has to be on her best behavior. But when an outsider infiltrates Honeysuckle, another murder threatens to ruin more than just the future of the upcoming nuptials.

At the same time, wolf shifter Dash Channing is gone and a changed Detective Mason Clairmont makes a new declaration. Will Charli be able to cast her personal feelings aside to break all the rules and help capture the real killer or will more trouble be heading to the small supernatural Southern town?

An incredible witch & wizard mystery. With Dash absent, Charli and Mason freely explore the potential of a relationship while solving crimes and in their personal time. As per the nature of these stories, somebody dies, and the evidence is inconclusive. While Charli uses her tracking skills, Mason uses his powers of observation and deduction to solve the mystery.

I thoroughly marveled at the interactions, insecurities, and joys exhibited in the community. These are by far more interesting than the crime-solving techniques. However, I look forward to reading more to see how things progress.

Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Haunting. Romantic. Tragic. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.

I received a review copy of this book from a third party. This is my honest review.

WOW

I miss Dash but Mason is a nice distraction for now. This story had me on edge the entire time I just could not stop reading it even though I was preparing myself for a nurses visit. Though I was hoping for more info about Charlie's background it was still satisfying to see who was most important to her present life. The author achieved everything she set out to do to satisfy our curious nature's for justice and karma in some ways yet keep us still wanting more. I really hope Dash is still strong i. Charlie's heart though, triangle don't hurt a supernatural story line, I've read them many times and always enjoyed them.

Honeysuckle, a small town full with paranormals, is where Charli lives. She is a tracker, a witch, whose specialty is to find things, and that includes clues for solving a murder. Together with the wardens, her brother and one of her best friends, she tackles another murder and this time one of the main suspects is her ex-fiance.
Intriguing small town life, funny, quirky characters and an interesting plot keep you reading until the end - if possible without any interruption.
