Well, if it works for him, OK. However, there are a lot more books describing more powerful ways to set and achieve goals. Some goals are "change" goals that affect your life and lifestyle. Those require a more psychological program for permanent change, like "Well-Formed-Outcomes" used in NLP, or the "Transtheoretical Model for Change" conceived by James Prochaska and John Norcross. Other goals are achievement or milestone goals that are done once and either accumulated ( like a college degree), or assimilated into your lifestyle. Some goals are skills, and maintenance goals are different from project goals and not addressed in this book. This book completely ignored the utility of PERT/CPM and the insights learned from project management disciplines. This book also ignored the power of micro goals and taking small steps to achieve large goals.
I recognize that this is a how-to brochure being marketed as book, but I am annoyed that there are no footnotes, endnotes, bibliography, or index.
The P.R.I.M.E.R Goal Setting Method It contains the process of setting achievable goals and getting exceptional results.
Lessons: 1. Setting goals is the easy part, the hard part is consistently achieving them. 2. The most important thing to remember is that you control outcomes by deciding whether you will achieve your goals. 3. Your beliefs influence your mindset, which in turn influences your actions. 4. Fear erodes confidence. If you give it audience, it will convince you to give up. 5. Thinking will not overcome fear. Action will. 6. Unrealistic goals nearly always end in failure. 7. We desire to change something about our lives and overestimate our resources, abilities, and resilience. 8. Purpose is what drives us to take action. 9. Creating an emotional connection with your goal will propel you when you feel like giving up. 10. Goal failure is merely feedback. It doesn’t define your worth.
I really appreciate the quick, no nonsense, no filler approach to this book. I got from cover to cover in a couple of days, and got the answers to many questions I had regarding goal setting.
This book covers a lot of ground quickly and does not expound on some key topics that would definitely need expounding IMO. In that light, this book would go great together with other books such as Atomic Habits, The 3 Alarms and Deep Work.
I like the book as the author review most of the available method for goal achievement, although I saw his method little bit complicated but cover all the missed items in the available methods I recommend to read the book again and again specially the author method and review other resources like YouTube’s or other articles about his goal methodology
This book tied together several of the best goal-setting methods currently in use and simplified them. This book addresses the need that I had in understanding how to plan goals and measure progress.
I will be ordering some of the other books this author has written.
This would have been good to see a wide variety of examples. It makes sense for the fitness goals. I'd like to read how others used it for career goals, projects, and more.
I am just now playing with the steps. I do enjoy the level of detailed consideration this system forces upon you.
Really enjoyed this book. I found it educating and engaging. I feel competent now on how to set goals, tools to use to apply goals to my life, and the different types of goal setting methods.
Always straight forward, this author is good at summing up things we might think we already know. Here, he's taken the best of Productivity processes and left behind the tedious. I'm going to give it a try!
I thoroughly enjoyed primer goal setting method, it gives you lots of information and you can then make your own mind up. I will be implementing the methods I have discovered in this great book .
This book was very through with respect to all of the types of goal setting. I enjoyed learning about them formally. I also enjoyed the introduction of “PRIMER” method, and I am looking forward to trying it out.
I liked the idea of comparing and contrasting various goal setting methods and using the best ideas from each method in your own goal setting. Not bad, easy read.
Not very striking, and I am not going to implement it now, since goal management system is not my bottleneck now. But it's good to have an alternative, and maybe I will try it later.
Damon’s book is Practical ... filled with clear steps and examples helping you understand the method. Resonant ... in what you need to learn. Interesting ... because it doesn’t neglect other methods. Mandatory ... if you’re really committed in fulfilling your goals. Excellent ... in motivating you to give the first step. Revolutionary ... because when you reach your goals, life changes for the better.
