Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon Light Novels #3

Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon, Vol. 3

Rate this book
I actually beat the lord of the Labyrinth stratum! This vending machine's not doing too bad for himself, huh? However, an increase in notoriety means an increase in requests. To name a few, we've got mapmaking, monster hunting, and...getting loaned out to the winner of an eating contest?!

"Boxxo is all mine for the whole day!"

...I guess I've got a date with Shui and her bottomless pit of a stomach. I'm up to the challenge, though. I just hope her boundless gluttony doesn't exhaust all the food (and points) I have!

The beginning was not as good as the other ones, felt a bit repetitive. Also I did not like the whole story part concerning the food festival they had, it was not particularly interesting. The end on the other hand with undead ruler was quite good but finished with quite a cliffhanger.

I enjoy this series because its light hearted and comical, I never thought I would cry for a zombie though.

I really hope this series isn't dropped it seems now theres a solid plot to follow if the next book comes out. I like the side stuff subplots just fine, I mean it's about a vending machine so I didn't expect a big adventure over all just some more weird situations a vending machine would get stuck in. But It looks like theres gonna be a over all adventure, which I'm more than happy for also. It seems some don't care for the side characters and their little stories but I enjoy them bc through them you find out more about the world(and i don't find anyone boring). Some of them and the actions are pretty on point for character troupes but eh, I'm reading about a damn guy as a vending machine in a fantasy world, so im not gonna over judge it for needing super deep and defined characters. It does bring up some stuff you would think it would over look. Like going to the bathroom, or periods, hell even the possibility of rape(it didn't happen thankfully). So in a way this series does have some stand out qualities.
But I really hope more books get made. I'll be the saddest person if it has been dropped. I really enjoy it and am happy to see the start of long adventure!

If Boxxo didn't have his work cut out for him before . . . egad.

Fortunately for our dear vending machine hero, he has an array of friends and allies willing to step in on any type of adventure, from dawn to dusk. Monsters. Mazes. Thieves. Skeletons. Boxxo meets his fair share of villainy in this volume. And it looks like there's a solid cast of regulars now: Hulemy, the scrappy engineer with a crush on Boxxo, is tagging along more and more, and the Tasmanian devil fiends pop up more frequently, too.

REBORN AS A VENDING MACHINE . . . #3 doesn't strike a good or even desirable balance of humor and adventure, but it does put together a tolerable combination of the two that makes for a gripping and entertaining conclusion. Whereas the first volume of this series merged danger and discovery into one solid narrative, and the second volume front-loaded the story with fluff, it goes without saying that the third volume continues to tip the scale ever so slightly and in search of getting things just right. Simply put, the first three quarters of this book amount to lighthearted fun, while the final 60 or 70 pages truly buckles down and delivers on the fantasy action of its namesake genre. It's a shame the gritty intuition of the first volume's nerd culture has almost completely disappeared.

Lammis and Boxxo and others battle across desolate fields of skeletons and zombies, and it's a riot (aside from the fact that Lammis is totally scared of stuff like this). Lammis even defeats a Stratum Lord in the heat of battle! Even better, as the conflict winds to a close, an even badder dude shows up and starts wreaking havoc. If only the book's decisive action and attention-grabbing drama didn't occur in the final two dozen pages of the book. . .

Regrettably, getting to moments like this, readers must again wade through an array of filler and off-topic character-building scenarios. For example, Boxxo learns more about Shui, an archer with the Menagerie of Fools, when the residents of Clearflow Stratum hold an eating contest. It's a sweet moment that punctuates the soft middle section of the book, but one can't help but wonder if moments like these couldn't have been better positioned within the narrative. It feels like the story is dawdling.

REBORN AS A VENDING MACHINE . . . #3, as with the previous volume, saves all of the good parts for the very end -- an inconvenient and thoroughly annoying tactic that one fears is less the result of calculated storytelling and more a habit of the weak (or worse, nonexistent) outlining tendencies of the author.

Book three was fun. There was a little break between the action with an eating contest. And we get to see more strata.

I liked the last bit the best because there was a lot of action in a short amount of time. And tradegy. Yep there is a moment of tradegy in the book.

We even learn there's a bigger world outside the strata dungeon too.

I'm looking forward to seeing it in the next volumes.

This series continues to be one of my favorites due to the sheer creativity of the writer. After all, the protagonist is a vending machine and incapable of moving on their own. This of course creates problems within problems, and yet the author continues to find creative ways of solving those problems.

The characters in this volume continue to be interesting, and the overall exploration of other strata keep the setting interesting. There is an eating contest which seemed a bit out of place in the story, but it does set up a change of pace/setting, so it is easy to sort of enjoy what is going on and take it for a bit of semi-filler to the story.

Without spoiling things, the end of the book has a moment that honestly shocked me for the sheer brutality of it. It was very out of place in the storyline we've had so far, and injects some pretty hard reality into the story. Still, it keeps things interesting. Overall, this series is well worth reading and I highly suggest it and look forward to when the next novel sees the light of day in English.

it’s… the third volume of a goofy idea

Alright, I got the manga first because I was curious. After a few issues released 16 pages or so a month I broke down and got the light novels.

This is the third of those. It wants to be serious but can’t really escape the premise to get there. If it suddenly slid into grimdark and murdered half the characters the threats would be certainly more ‘real’ but instead we have vending machine vs kaijou (more or less no spoilers) and the stakes are pretty much a question of how he wins not if.

I enjoyed it, I will buy the next. But this isn’t going to turn around the series if you didn’t like it to this point. We just get more of the same and the promise of more to come.

Did not like this last volume, too much body fixation for a character who is supposed to be a machine, I will understand a basic description, but I do not get the "horny" vibe. Also a LOT of repetition and tons of waste of time on things that make no sense, like the first half of the book is a total different story about food instead of adventure. Anyway, it felt like a completely different book. Onto my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!

This series was really a surprise. I really enjoyed it, it was really fun.
Sadly no new volumes where released in Japan, so this is as much as we get officially.
Apparently the series end with 277 chapters, that means there would've been at least 10-11 volumes, sadly it is what it is.
Maybe I will revisit the series when all is released.
