This adorable board book tells the story of Frida Kahlo, a famous Mexican artist reimagined as a cat with nine lives. The simple story-telling is perfect for young little readers, and a wonderful way to introduce them to this well-known artist. The book includes Diego Rivera as a dog, making him "Doggo" Rivera, and animalistic versions of some of Frida's most famous paintings.
The cartoon illustrations are full of vibrant colors and cute animals. The writing hilariously uses animal made-up words, like "purr-fect", "furgotten","Meowxico","mewseum", and "paw-traits" instead of portraits.
The whole book is bright and funny! It talks about Frida's early interest in photography, her love for birds and pets, how she began painting portraits of her sisters and friends at a young age, and how she met Doggo Rivera, and traveled to France as the first Mexican artist to be included in the Louvre.
I think that young children would be inspired to find out more about Frida and develop an interest in art and new cultures. As soon as I read it, I sat down to Google more about Frida and her colorful artwork.
I was also interested to see the rich Mexican culture beautifully represented in this book. I grew up in Mexico as a child, and it was like a breath from home to see the plants, buildings, clothing, and wildlife of my own country in the background of the sweet illustrations.

This adorable little board book introduces us to infamous Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo, in a fun and animalistic way.
I love the concept of this series! It gives real information about Frida Kahlo's life, some of which probably isn't too interesting for the babies and toddlers that will have it read to them, but still important. We learn all about her home, her culture, and her hobby as well as major events in her life.
The play on words makes this extra purrfect! There are so many and it makes it extra fun to emphasize them and see if my little one catches on to the change or not. I do think some of the words are a bit difficult to follow and would make more sense to an adult than a young reader.
I'm looking forward to reading more of the Wild Bios board books for both the reimagining of famous persons and the fun words that are included!

The concept of kiddie board books to introduce real people who are famous is a great way to begin reading biographic stories to children. The author makes it enticingly entertaining by creating characters that are animals. The biography (???) is about Frida CATlo - emphasis on CAT. So while the person is real, the animalistic twist is a quirky way to tell the story.
Now about this cute book.....
A typical board book that has charming, cute animals populating its pages. They are "peopled-cats" or cats that take on people traits. Not such a new concept in kiddie books, but perhaps it is new in kiddie books about REAL PEOPLE.
So as our real person - hmm.... kitten Frida goes about her daily activities, she has an accident and began to pursue art as a result. Lots of play-on-words in the story telling. "Time on her paws," "First paintings were paw-traits."
What the child can learn is that Frida became an artist and married an artist. Also, she lived in Mexico.
While I find the book delightful and I believe young children will enjoy the story and will, perhaps, learn about an artist, I think that the parents will get the most out of this book. I found myself chuckling as I read because of the multitude of words in "meow" version. Lots of fun for the adult reader in this one. Maybe Mom and Dad will want to read this one multiple times to the kiddies.

This is the mini biography of Frida Kahlo as told as though she was a cat. She is a Meowxican painter who specialty was paw-traits. She wore traditional clawthing. She was the first Meowxican artist to have a work purr-chased by the Louvre. Filled with bright illustrations of cheerful cats and dogs.
As an adult this was a fun and silly parody for a biography. But children really do take things like this is a bit literally. For example in the biography series Ordinary People Change the World, the main person is featured as a small bobblehead figure. Many teachers at my school bought the entire series. After being read this, second grade students at my school actually thought that Rosa Parks was a child when she rode on the bus, and that Martin Luther King Jr. was incredibly short. I’m not saying that young readers would think that Frida was actually a cat, but the imagery and creative wording certainly muddies the waters. My final opinion is that these are fun for grownups and a bit of waste for pre-k’s.

The first title in the new WILD BIOS series for toddlers featuring well-known historical figures with a bit of a twist is a great way to have fun while reading and teaching.
This book is based on the Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. Her works included portraits and self-portraits while using Mexico’s popular culture and nature as inspiration.
Kids will think their parents are being silly while reading this story of Frida Kahlo’s life. First, changing her name to Friday Catlo and talking about her “clawful” accident that caused her to rest and have a lot of time on her “paws” so she started painting until it was “purr-fect” will get kids giggling and want to know more. A brief history of her life is shared using various cat puns that teach kids about this famous artist in a way that they will remember her contributions to art and history.

You better LOVE cat puns if you choose to read this book. I enjoy puns, but there were at least 2 per sentence. It was tiresome and overbearing.
One pun wasn't even a cat pun - she "kneaded friends" - the author just couldn't resist. *face palm*
The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because it did actually have a lot of information, however I'm tempted to move it back down to 2 stars because some puns made little sense or confused the meaning. such as "fur-realist" which you'd have to understand is meant as "surrealist" instead of "for realist." I worry that unless someone is already familiar with art history, readers will just be confused.

This hilarious little tale with a catastic twist teaches young readers about the life of famous artist Frida Kahlo. This cute little kitty has the famous brow and lots of animal friends. Young readers will enjoy the colorful imagery and can pick out their favorite critters. This sturdy little book is perfect for small hands and will help toddlers understand the concept of a book, eye and hand coordination. Parents and caregivers will love this little tool to teach art, colors, shapes and more.

This book is an absolute treasure. As a Frida fan, I had to have this. So many puns, truly incredible. Events were accurate and written in the most adorable way possible. I will share it with my kids but at the end of the day, this book is MINE. Love it so much. All the gold stars, 10/10, highly recommended.

Frida Catlo is a super cute catastic twist on the life and work of Frida Kahlo in the Wild Bios board book series. It is a great way to engage child on important and historically significant events. A great way to engage parents to get them to read to their children.

We adore this book! We have another board book about Frida, but this one is more detailed... except uses cats to represent each prominent person in her life story, as well as utilizing plenty of cat puns. It's fun, cute, and a great way to begin teaching little ones about an amazing artist.

I am a cat person so it pains me to admit that I got really tired of all the cat references. I found it entirely unnecessary. However, I shared this book with a few youngsters and they liked it.

I love this book about Frida Kahlo. It is filled with cats and very punny. While reading this book, I had a smile on my face and even learned something new about her. This book deserves two paws up.
