You get sucked right into the action, someone's in the house! And after you learn that the family in the house has protected identities bc of abusive ex husband, I'm hooked.
It's the eighth book in a series and i haven't read any of the previous, and that is a bit annoying. It suffers from the same problems as a lot of these crime series, that after a while every character has survived ten shootings, murder attempts, everyone has a dead spouse etc, but i don't think jæger overdoes it. Just a suspicious amount of the police staff has recovered from recent trauma.
Other than that, i actually found the description of the policemen and detectives quite plausible, the procedures and ways to get around them without being the old "I'm a grumpy, fat, old man who doesn't play by anyone's rules and also I'm an alcoholic but that is apparently fine and now I'm busting down doors without a warrant but dammit i get results" cliché.
He manages to include EU migrants, biker gangs, abusive relationships and psychopath without it seeming forced or unnecessary. Well done!
