AKA Emilie Baker Loring
Emilie Baker was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1864 to George M. Baker and Emily Frances (Boles) Baker. Her father was a playwright and publisher and her mother was a homemaker. Loring married Victor J. Loring, who was a lawyer. She began writing in 1914, published her first novel in 1922 at the age of 56, and continued writing until her death after a long illness in 1951. She was a prolific American romance novelist of the 20th century, known for her "wholesome love" romances and independent, spirited heroines. Beyond romance, her books also explore a selection of topics including, but not limited to marriage, love, American patriotism, freedom, and optimism. She died in Wellesley, Massachusetts on March 13, 1951. At the time of her death, she had sold more than a million copies of her first thirty books.

After her death, her estate was managed by her sons, Selden M. and Robert M. Loring, who, based on a wealth of unfinished material they discovered, published twenty more books under her name until 1972. These books were ghost-written by Elinore Denniston. taken largely from wiki, made some corrections (dates didn't add up) per her biographer

Every few years I binge read my mother's Emilie Loring books. My mother gave me copies but there are several that I've had to buy replacements because her copies have been read so much (even though I try and handle them carefully) that they've started falling apart. As soon as they get so worn I start looking for replacements.

I love these books for two reasons - one because it's always made me feel more connected to my mom picturing her reading the books, imagining what was going on in her life as she read them. The second reason is because they are so full of hope and promise of better times. In many of these books it's just after the War and people were optimistic about the future and sometimes we need those things in our lives.

I seriously underestimated this book. I loved the plot and the ending was perfect.

I thought it was a tad weird that Cary and Randi fell in love right away. I know Loring writes her characters with the love at first sight trope, but in my opinion it was a bit inappropriate for this book.

Mmm. This one warms my heart because of the honor and respect for the sanctity of marriage each character has. I also love how although, Randi decides to go ahead and marry an ailing man 30 years her senior, she pours her heart into making him happy and to grant him the best quality of life she can. Completely Forsaking the man she loves, because she is married and must honor her vows no matter what.

And her beloved (a single young man) respects her enough to move away so there is no temptation and she can have a happy marriage--love love love!

Ps. Don't worry--there is much more to the story. LOL

The only thing I don't like is that all the characters experienced love at first sight. Deep fulfilling unconditional love. LOL.

But it's still a lovely story.

When I first read Love with Honor back in the day, I thought its depiction of an underground organization trying to undermine America through its schoolchildren was more than a little over the top.
I've been watching Hubert's activities for a long time. He is one of the local leaders of the All-American Party that is trying, among other things, to propagandize our children in the schools, trying to make them believe that democracy does not work, that the Bill of Rights is vicious nonsense, that the Supreme Court is corrupt or controlled by Communists, or some such outrageous nonsense, that the individual must become part of an organized mob led by suitable people.
Reading it again now, I'm struck by how prescient it seems. Unfortunately, there's nothing underground about the efforts to persuade young people that socialism is better than capitalism, that giving away our right to free speech would be a good thing, that government should solve all our problems, and that Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.

Whoever wrote this book in 1969—and it wasn't Emilie Loring—had a pretty good grasp of how things were trending. (Although, when it comes to organized mobs, I doubt the author's worst nightmares could ever have produced our ravening social media mobs.) Overall, this book isn't a comforting read (nor is it a particularly good romance, but that's a different rant).

I'm spending some time with my aunt and she has two boxes of Emilie Loring paperbacks. I picked this one up to give it a try. Loring wrote between 1914 and her death in 1951. This book has a publish date of 1969. I read romances, among many other genres, and I have to say that even though this book was written more than 60 years ago, it was really good.

Yes, it was a little predictable, but there was still a twist a the end. The light plot and interesting characters kept my interest and I enjoyed reading this. I might just take the rest of the books back home.

I started reading Emile Loring books when I picked up a paperback from a rack in a hotel lobby (for 50 cents) while on my sister's & my yearly vacation to visit my father. Hooked! I went on to purchase and read every Emilie Loring romance written and available in paperback, not knowing that she had died before I was even born. I loved these books, but read them when I was between about 12 and 18 years old. I was a young reader - do keep that in mind! :-)

This was a terrific book! Great love story mixed with lots of mystery. This book was written in 1969 I believe and so I’m hoping I can find more books by this author! It’s a good sign when something written so long ago can still be so relevant today.

Ok, this one got me right in the feels. I bawled at the end. A someone who also strives to live my life with honor, I absolutely adored the main character who was strong, honorable, and independent. What a fantastic read - definitely don't write 'em like this any more!
