One of my favorite books to read at the library as a child. Recently bought my own copy to share. Love the illustrations and story idea. Great to share with the little ones just in time for the spooktacular holiday!
I thought this was a good book. I loved the rhyme scheme and it had a good ending. I also think that knowing the end makes the rest of the book more funny. I would put this in my classroom library and would use it as a read aloud around halloween time. I would put this in a 1st-5th grade classroom.
Personal reaction: I loved this book. I also think that students would love this book too because of the pictures and the way the words are written.
I think that this book is suited for second or third grade students. This would be a good book to read to kickoff October since it's about Halloween. There are a lot of onomatopoeia's in this book too: buzz, creak, chomp. There are uses of alliteration too: bubbling brew, spooky scary. The other cool thing about this book is that some of the words are written in different directions that makes the stand out. For example, the word, "disappearing" was written with the letters starting out big but then they gradually got smaller. I think that students would this this is fun and the illustrations are also great. They are vibrant and they really depict what the words describe these monsters as, leaving nothing to the imagination.
