At the tender age of 16, Anna MacKenzie meets and falls in love with Malcolm Cameron, heir to the chieftain of the Cameron clan. They meet in secret and promises are made. When Anna's mother, the healer known as the Witch of Caig Falls learns of their relationship and realizes Anna is pregnant, moves them away to her family. Anna has a son and learns that Malcolm was killed, she vows to herself that his son will one day return to Cameron lands and claim his rightful place.
Thirteen years later, Anna is back with her son Iain, her mother has passed and Anna is an accomplished healer. She returns to the cottage she once shared with her mother. She is still working out her plan to integrate into the clan when she meets Davidh Cameron. Davidh is the commander of the Cameron warriors and a widower with a young son and was Malcolm's closest friend. His son is the reason he seeks out Anna, Colm is ill and possibly dying. He asks Anna to see if she can help him.
Anna keeps Iain a secret, she needs to gain permission from the chieftain to stay and doesn't want to introduce him until she is sure she can implement her plans for him. She treats Colm and Davidh gets her an audience with Robert Cameron, Malcolm's uncle and the new chieftain. The clan has had some hard times since the death of Malcolm's father and Robert seems to be a good leader who cares for the clan. Anna feels a little guilt for deceiving everyone, but truly believes her son is the rightful heir to the clan.
She cares for Colm and he seems to improve. When Colm is almost killed and saved by Anna and Iain, Davidh learns about her son. Davidh is attracted to Anna in a way that he hasn't been to any woman since he married his wife. He isn't sure what he wants from her, but he knows he doesn't want to lose her. He invites Anna and Iain to live in his house - so she can be closer to Colm and so Iain (who Davidh recognizes as a Cameron) can get to know his kin. Anna agrees and still plans to have Iain declared the rightful heir. But things begin to change between Anna and Davidh and the secrets she has kept could destroy the love that they have found.
I thought this was a good story, it was interesting and well paced. There is a little action, a lot of secrets, jealousy, betrayal and some steamy-ish love scenes. This is the fifth book in the series, but I had no problem following the story as a stand alone title. I would be happy to recommend the book and will hopefully have time to go back and read the previous books.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review of an eARC that was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher.*
Anna Mackenzie’s mother was a healer who was sometimes called the witch of Caig Falls. They lived above the falls and Anna was learning about the herbs and plants, so she could be a healer one day. She fell in love with Malcolm Cameron, the chieftain’s son, and hoped to marry him. Her mother discovered she was pregnant and moved them to her kin. Anna bore a son and a few years later she learned his father, Malcolm, had died. She planned to move back to the Cameron’s land one day, so her son Iain could know his clan.
Davidh Cameron was Malcolm’s best friend and now leads the warriors of Clan Cameron. He has lost his wife and his parents and worries for his ill son, Colm, named for his friend. Suisan cares for his son as best she can but his breathing is getting worse. Suisan informs him of the rumors that the witch, who is really a wise woman, has returned. He goes to Anna and she agrees to treat his son. As Colm improves many in the village seek her help.
Davidh and Anna spend time together and he meets Iain who reminds him of someone. They marry and eventually he realizes who fathered Iain. There is more going on in the clan and with Anna and Davidh but I won’t spoil a wonderful book. Arabella, Malcolm’s twin, and her husband Brodie Mackintosh (Stolen by the Highlander) visit the Camerons and it was nice to see them. I highly recommend this book and this series, which is a keeper.
Scotland, 1358 Anna Mackenzie is the daughter of the Witch of Caig Falls who is really a healer. She studies under her and hopes to be a healer herself one day. But she meets Malcolm, the Cameron Chief's son and they fall in love and meet secretly in the woods. When Anna's mother finds out she moves them to her family up north and Anna has Malcolm's son, Iain. But the unfortunate happens as she heard of Malcolm's death. Now thirteen years later when her mother passes away, she returns with her son, to the Cameron Clan to be their healer. She helps the sick son of Davidh Cameron, head of the Cameron Clan warriors and they quickly find an attraction between them growing. But Anna has a plan to make her son take his rightful place as heir of his slain father. This is a wonderful highland adventure that is filled with so many elements that make a great story. Romance, betrayal, intrigue, suspense and heartwarming emotions that will have your turning the pages until the end. The author turns the settings and characters to life with her descriptions and you will find yourself lost in the Highlands, waiting patiently for the next in the series!
Anna was just trying to do right by moving back to the clan that the father of her child belonged to. When she meets her former lover's best friend, she sees it as a way to get her son his rightful place within the clan.
When Davidh learns that a healer has moved into the area, he seeks her out for his son's breathing issues. They end up spending a lot of time together and David starts to fall for Anna. But what will he do when he learns the plans she has for her son?
I really enjoyed watching these two fall in love. Neither was looking to fall in love again, but did embrace it when it came along. This was a great addition to the Highland Feuding series and I can't wait to see what Brisbin has in store for us next.
Thirteen years after leaving, carrying the child of the now-deceased heir to the Cameron Clan, Anna Mackenzie returns to follow in her mother’s footsteps as clan healer. Anna helps the ailing son of Davidh Cameron, head of the Cameron Clan warriors, and an attraction quickly flares between them but Anna has a secret agenda to see her son take his rightful place as heir of his slain father, and in line for the Chiefdom. Set in the 14th Century, romance is blended with the usual suspects: intrigue, treachery, and the every-present threat of being labelled a witch to make an enjoyable, if unmemorable read. – Megan Osmond

Loch Arkaig, The Lands of Clan Cameron Scotland, 1358
Anna MacKenzie falls madly in love with the Cameron Chief's son Malcolm. He had gone to investigate about the rumors about the witch above the falls. Instead he meets the witches daughter, and they fall madly in love and continue to meet secretly in the woods.
Anna’s mother, known as the witch of Caig Falls, knew her illegitimate, pregnant daughter would never be accepted by the Chief Cameron or his Clan. So they go move to Anna’s mothers family up North. It is there she hears some heartbreaking news. It wasn’t until her son Iain, was close to his thirteenth year, when her mother dies.
Now, Anna devised a plan to go back and have her son meet his Cameron kin. As his father, Malcolm Cameron, was the heir of Clan Cameron and would of become Chief. So eventually her son would claim his legacy, being Malcolm Cameron’s heir. She just needs someone to give her a proper introduction to the Cameron Clan. Afterall it was her duty as his mum to see to her sons future, security and happiness.
Achnacarry Castle on Loch Arkaig Scotland, 1371
Davidh Cameron is a widow, father, including the commander and trainer of the Cameron warriors. The problem was his son Colm was extremely ill with a life threatening lung disease. He had seen so many healers and nothing was working! Davidh was constantly worried and couldn’t bare the thought of losing his son too. He had lost so much already’ and Colm was all he had left after losing his wife and now his parents. None of the treatments from the healers that he had seen his son have worked. Now his friend Suisan who sometimes took care of his eight year old son Colm. This was when he had to fulfill his commander duties at the castle. On this day, Colm was showing extremely bad symptoms! Suisan sent message to the castle for Davidh to return to his son immediately! Suisan had heard the witch of Caig Falls had returned to above the falls. Not that she believed the gossip and ridiculous stories of sorcery, but knew she was a respected healer. Had heard she had recently healed a boy who was badly injured near the falls. She recommended the witch of Caig Falls and Davidh felt it gave him the smallest amount of hope, he would try it. Hell he would try anything that might help cure his sons ailment!
Davidh meets the beautiful Anna MacKenzie, not her mother, the well known witch. She agrees to help heal his son, though she is not sure she can permanently heal him. She does at least seem to make Colm comfortable. Yet she also needs someone who can introduce her to her sons Cameron kin. The very clan she needs her son to get an introduction to. Luckily due to Ian features he is recognized as a Cameron right away with his recognizable nose. Davidh Cameron is the perfect choice! A man who is in a authoritative, respected position, plus had a close relationship with the Laird. He also seemed to be an advisor or listened to the chieftains counsel as well. Though once the truth of her plans come to light, Davidh will despise her and possibly think she is a traitor. Due to her using Davidh as Commander and her position as his sons healer. All to gain her sons rightful legacy. However, having her son introduced into the Cameron clan, and claiming his birthright as chieftain, will make all of Anna’s dreams come true. The problem is the more she gets closer to Davidh, Colm, and their clan she is starting to feel things she didnt expect or want! Especially for the kind, generous, caring man and father, Davidh Cameron! She knows once her plan goes into action Davidh will be furious feeling betrayed and used. Yet will Anna let these new feelings of love and caring cast all her well made and long awaited plans into wind? Will Davidh forgive her or feel she has used, abused and and betrayed him in the most unforgivable way. In addition broken his heart and shattered his dreams in the worst sort of way.
There is a group of bandits causing havoc in the village. As many would like to remove Robert Cameron as Laird too. So putting Iain in this role could absolutely jeopardize and split the Cameron clan up! Plus their is a good chance of starting a clan war. Davidh gave his fealty, honor and sword to his Laird, Robert Cameron. A man Davidh stand behinds to give his loyalty, respect and protection to. What choice can he make? Plus the fact that Malcolm Cameron was his blood brother and very best friend! Another person he made blood promises and honor too? So who will he protect and honor his Chief, best friend, or woman he can’t get out of his head or heart?
Terri Brisbin pens another phenomenal, romantic, highland, adventure. This moving story is filled with all the elements, Highland, historical, readers, love. Filled with breathtaking betrayal, shattered hearts, and heartwarming passion. Plus secrets, mistrust, ‘lies, politics, intrigue, treachery, jealousy, mystery, suspense, betrayal, abduction, healing, trust, love and more. Problems seem to multiply. Choices that should of been simple and easy seem to become more confusing and complicated.
Exquisite setting, superb plotting, awe-inspiring dialogue and characters you can’t help but love. It is definitely a book Brisbin fans don’t want to misn addition new book readers will be totally mesmerized! As Terri Brisbin novels are that magnificent and this one is a definite masterpiece!
You can read this as a stand alone book or series book order. As there are usually characters from previous books making appearances in the new novel. Yet it won’t ruin the story or be hard to follow if you haven’t read all the books. I like to connect the character dots myself, but that is not necessary, just a readers personal choice. You can always go back and read the other four books in this series too-if you haven’t read them yet. It is a book with so many twists, turns, ups and downs, that will keep you guessing with the wonderful element surprise! A fabulous book that I could not put down! It had me mesmerized from start to finish!
I absolutely and unequivocally highly recommend A Healer for the Highlander by Terri Brisbin. A book to definitely revisit again and again!

4.5 - Voto . Lucia63 - per RFS . " Davidh avrebbe accettato qualunque decisione avrebbe preso?

I thourghly enjoyed this book. The author went to were the story was written. I really loved meeting Anna MacKenzie. She had loved someone and given birth to his son. Due to the situation he never knew. Her mother taught her the trade of healing. She moved home to were her mom had raised her. There she meets David of the clan Cameron. She helps him with his son. What I love about this story is how she weaves the story. She draws you in and makes the story come alive. You can sense how each character feels. How Anna is trying to make the best decision for her son. You can sense her growing love for Davidh and his for her. She is trying to make the best decision for her child and the son of her 1st love. Its such a awesome story that draws you in that its hard to put it down. I love the ending its so special. You can see the growth in her son and the care he has for his new "brother ". You will enjoy this book as much as the last book. Terry writes so well I will be looking for previous books she is amazing.
A Healer For The Highlander is a phenomenal historical romance by Terri Brisbin. Ms. Brisbin once again wows readers with her well-written book. The characters in this story are spectacular and make this book a fantastic read. Anna is a healer with a son and a secret. Davidh is the commander of Clan Cameron's warriors with a son that is extremely ill. Davidh and Anna's story is packed with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. I loved this book from start to finish and look forward to my next book by Terri Brisbin. A Healer For The Highlander is book 5 of A Highland Feuding Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.
I read a print copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The heroine fell in love with the laird's son and believed his promises of marriage, but when she was 3 months gone in her pregnancy, her mother took her to stay with relatives, and when her son was 2, his father was killed. Now that her mom has died, the heroine goes back to her former home to claim her son's birthright. Except she meets her lover's best friend. He's come to her cottage on the mountain to ask her to heal his son, who has weak lungs. And things roll from there. It's a good read. I liked it.
Great read!! This well-paced story really transported me. The love story is hot and also very believable and satisfying. Brisbin is consistently awesome!
This is the second book I've read by this author and she is good. I was drawn into this story immediately. Anna MacKenzie had loved once a boy who would have been a leader she had his child. Years later she comes home to Cameron land and meets Davidh Cameron. He needs a healer to save his child. This story draws you into it. It gives you a view of life for that time. The author actually visited that area. When you read the story you feel the conflict Anna carries because of her son and his connection. But you can see her love grow for Davidh. Because of that she is torn because of her secret. Its a beautiful story of love. It has some action in it. But it is a story of love of 2 people. Its well written and worth a read. I love the ending. I'm hoping there will be more visits to this mighty clan.
