I was irritated as *HELL* with this, because I actually started out with a different Jodie Bailey twin book from my shelf, and it read like a SEQUEL. But there's no marking on the back or in the booklist inside to indicate that it's a series.
IT. IS.
How about TELLING your readers that?!
So I put that book down, picked this one up (since it comes BEFORE)... ... ...only to find out that *THIS* is a sequel, as well. How far in the series?! WHO KNOWS?! It's not even marked as such here on Goodreads!!!! What a pain in the backside, Bailey!! What the farts?!?!?!?!
And that wouldn't be so bad, but the characterization just *STINKS* in this story. You've got Jenna who supposedly doesn't like Wyatt and is always short with him, only we're TOLD this, but we're SHOWN something totally different as she invites him in, makes him coffee, is interested in him as per her discreet gazes, etc...
... but then she 'remembers' she hates him and snaps at him (because the author says to), and then feels like a heel for it... NO. How about no. It's just badly, badly done.
And it's the same with him. Supposedly he doesn't like her, but he's holding her while she cries and taking her hand over coffee and giving her slow smiles... WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. HECK. They don't act at all like they don't like each other, and there's not even an explanation given for their supposed 'animosity' (that doesn't exist). Just 'the author says so'.
Badly done. I got so fed up with it, and I have so many other LI Suspense books (like HUNDREDS from yard sales) that I don't have to waste my time trying to *MAKE* this work. Forget it.
DNF, and two stars.
