Jaed Tossed out of a Taucet’s vessel, Jaed found himself wounded and under the protection of a human female. She had found him on the snow, right after a big storm hit her small farm. She took care of him, giving him the needed time for his nanocybots to heal him and put him back on his feet. Certain the army would come for him as soon as the storm faded away, he didn’t try to escape, at least, not until he realized going back wasn’t an option. He had found love and he wasn’t willing to lose it.
I wanted to like this more. The set-up sounded like a lot of fun. Unfortunately, it just never lived up to its potential - either as a romance in general or a sci-fi romance particularly.
Jaed (H) gets thrown from an alien vessel during battle. He awakes to find himself rescued but wounded in Hannah's (h) isolated cabin. She tends his wounds, cares for him, and realizes she's fallen in love while the pair has been trapped in her cabin by a major winter storm. But such a valuable investment as a cyborg soldier will certainly bring military personnel to reclaim him. Will the couple be able to escape, or will their love be lost as soon as it's found?
As a sci-fi story, it didn't fit. Jaed never sounded like a cyborg or someone who'd been raised in a military-focused slave camp. He sounded very familiar with sex and with the female body, for starters, for having been so isolated. He immediately trusted her, too, and fell in love right away. And his conversation all sounded very "normal human," nothing really unique to being a cyborg. That's part of the fun of sci-fi romances, right? The unique cultural or physical characteristics about the leads or their environments? It was rather missing here. The nanocybots and grey skin were pretty much it (Also - I'll admit, I kept reading "nanocybots" as "nancybots" - it was distracting). It really was just a "snowy cabin" romance with a surface veneer of sci-fi.
The ending was super abrupt. We're just getting the characters and their relationship established, they're making plans (the whole livestock purchase) and backup escape plans, they meet Mark in town (potential rival character)... and then it ends. What was the point of meeting Mark in town at all? Literally no purpose to the story, because it ended so soon after they met. Same with Hannah's tingling sensations - is that going somewhere in another book? Because it didn't go anywhere here. Overall, the story wasn't fleshed out nearly as well as it could have been, and the abrupt ending just emphasized this.
Editing and proofreading issues. Typos and word choice mostly, though there were a number of sentences which were clunky and redundant. A lot of incorrect word forms - scorn/scornful, that sort of thing. And several times when "after all" was used, it was followed with a comma which wasn't necessary - actually made the sentences very confusing. The biggest typo was probably in having 2 chapter 9s. Kinda embarrassing to mislabel chapters when there's only 10 chapters.
Alternating 3rd person POV. No cheating, no OW/OM drama, no love triangles. Just a "snowy cabin" romance, only one of the couple is a cyborg. Fairly empty. Insta-love and overall, a very un-sci-fi sci-fi story. Needs some more proofreading. Abrupt HFN ending.
Would I read more? I don't know. This was a free Kindle find, so maybe if more in the series were offered too, I might. But there are other sci-fi authors I like, so this wouldn't be one I seek out.
I wanted to like this book. I really did. The premise sounded promising. I guess I was just hoping for too much sci-fi from what turned out to be a strictly romance book. Also, there were several places where the wrong word or words were used. Some of those were not typos and made the reading a bit jinky in places. Also, the hero didn't seem broken enough. Slaves raised as slaves from the get-go wouldn't act or react in the way this guy is. At least, that's what I've taken away from reading many books. I don't think he would've trusted the heroine so easily. And the bit about the livestock kinda threw me for a loop. I grew up on a farm so there were several things that would've had any person who raised livestock wondering what in the world she was thinking. I will say the setting was good. The heroine seemed believable, except for the bit about the livestock. I did like that the initial descriptions only told enough to allow the readers room for imagination. And I loved the heroine's profession. Nice touch, that! This book is more graphic than what I usually enjoy, but if you're looking for that kind of a story, you might enjoy this one. It's a shorter story and could easily be read in a single sitting.
1.5 stars...very short with a need for editing and as others have noted it has a very abrupt ending. It started out good..our hero, .jaed, a cyborg owned by the military, was a fighting an alien. He is pushed out of a a flying spacecraft badly injured. Hannah just so happens to be nearby and sees him tumble from the sky. She hauls him home and washes and bandages him. No explanation how he got on the alien craft, what, if any, special abilities (other than he can self heal) or how he is just like her when he was raised as a warrior and had not even been near a woman. Wouldn’t the government keep them from having sexual urges? Within a day he wakes (he was shot in the head and stomach/chest) and he starts eating Hannah’s food and it’s the best ever. 🙄 then he gets an erection and she offers to relieve him. Yep goes down like a porn star within a day of seeing him tumbling from the sky. He can’t even stand yet. From there they eat and have sex...lots of both. Within days they are both in love...they talk about him escaping to another planet and she meets up with a creepy ex from town. And it ends...it had a good premise but no real execution. I’d mark it for spoilers but nothing happened to spoil.
Although I liked this story...it ended oddly. Jaed falls from a ship while in flight and comes crashing to the ground outside Hannah's cabin. Slowly his nanocybots heal him. And he and Hannah come to fall in love. The whole story the author keeps bringing up that Jaed will be found and they will have to escape, but the story ends before that ever happens. So all along you keep expecting them to have to run and escape and the author never goes there. It just seems like there should've been more to their story. Did she ever get pregnant? Where they able to get their HEA???
I found what I read to be very interesting. There were spelling errors that some editing would have helped. The ending was to abrupt. There was a character introduced towards the end that had no bearing whatever. The changes in her body, also went nowhere. All in all there were questions left hanging. As much as I enjoyed the story it would have profited by being a little longer.
What's a girl to do when a cyborg falls from the sky
I enjoyed this story more than I expected to, from start to finish. This quick read is character driven, and light on plot, but the character's backstory/ depth makes up for that as through them we get to understand the world they live in, and the choice they never imagined events would present to them.
I was really enjoying the story and it seemed the author was setting up for the action that was in the past cyborg books and then the book just ened. I felt as if the author didn't bother to finish the story. It could have been really good if I didn't feel like the story didn't finish.
Hannah lives alone in a secluded cabin in the mountains. She hears planes overhead. Next thing ,a man falls out of the sky. Earth is at war with aliens trying to take over the planet. She thinks he's one of them by his gray skin but turns out to be a cyborg. Nice concept. But it ended abruptly just as it was truly getting interesting.
This has two chapter nines and isn’t uniformly edited. I don’t get too upset about punctuation or minor spelling errors. It’s a slap in the face when an author doesn’t even bother to make sure their chapters are labeled correct. It’s a bigger slap in the face when there are only ten chapters.
When a cyborg falls from the sky at her feet what's a girl to do. Tending to him and having him stay opens her heart and opens his world to joys her never know. An enjoyable quick read although the ending could have been more...something....but as it is part of a series that may be addressed in a later 'episode'.
I could handle the insta-love but the insta-Sex was a bit too much. (Strange I know). Would have been rated higher if there was a better ending, though I am happy that the set up for drama wasn’t followed through.
Hannah lives in the mountains by herself. One day a man falls from the sky. She realises that he is alive and a cyborg. She brings him to get cabin and nurses him. They grow to live each other.
I enjoyed the story, but it felt incomplete. The book could have used some fleshing out to give it more depth, and the ending was rather abrupt when it felt like the story wasn't close to finished. Quite a few pieces of the story were left hanging.
I wasnt into cyborgs before but this story was fun and compelling. The writing was smooth, detailed, while the stout characters carried the romantic premise really well. I'll be looking out for my from this author.
I thought this novel was okay, because i need to know more like was he free to live a life? did they have children, so many answered questions.. Leaves you with a cliff hanger of sorts.. its not finished in my eyes.
I love this short novella for the starter of the series. I can't wait to read the second book. There was excitement, love, loyalty and adventure. I highly recommend this novella
This book was rather burning. I feel bad shooting down the efforts of this author, but I kept reading thinking that something was going to happen, but all of a sudden it ended. I hope this author matured a little since writing this book. I don’t intend to find out.
This rating is only because I like cyborg books. But the insta-love, insta-sex was just too ridiculous. Then the abrupt ending after the set up of meeting Mark in town was such a let down. 😦
A short fun story. Think Florence Nightingale. Coming into real life, after falling from the sky. Hanna is at the right place at the right time to save the cyborg.
I loved reading this also I intend to find more like it. It is not long but wow I am glad I found this science fiction romance I must find more for SURE!
This is a short fiction so if you enjoy insta-romances, this is for you.
I really liked the opening of this story. I liked how the heroine cared for him and all his wounds. I wished there was more to those scenes though. I would like to have read more about what cyborg traits he had other than nanites and healing.
Novella must stopped after H & h declared love for each other. I felt the author could have tied up some things, did they leave earth, what happened to the animals, did the guy in town cause problems?
