Sweet, protective Galen, quiet, studious Cassidy. Rugged Chase, the leader, and swaggering Aric, the pain in my ass. These four smoldering dragons hold the key to my past. And the secret to my own true dragon nature. When I was four, someone sold my family out to a cult bent on destroying the world. They destroyed my childhood instead. I was torn from my people, torn from who I was meant to be, and tossed from home to home. After a lifetime of neglect, I've found a family of my own at McKinnett's Pub. They're the only ones I let in. On my twenty-first birthday, my past and my future collide. I come to my senses in the arms of a handsome stranger, with his equally handsome friends cleaning up one hell of a mess. The more time I spend with them, the harder it is to keep them at arm's length. Will embracing the dragon trapped within me save me from danger, or send me spiraling deeper in? Will dancing with these four tempting dragons leave me burned? The fate of the world may hang in the balance. No pressure. Shadow on the Wing is a steamy reverse-harem romance with sex, violence, and naughty language. It is the first in the Arysia Bellmont series.
Well I cannot say that I haven't seen this before - a lost royalty, that was hidden among humans when she was little so good, that even her own people couldn't find her, and she has suffered abuse from her childhood and now finds it hard to trust people? Shocker. Where have I heard this before? O right, in almost every books coming out recently. But despite the overall unoriginal story line, it was all wrapped up in a very nice package and I couldn't help but get hooked. I liked the story from the first words I've read. I guess the writing just really got to me. It wasn't anything overly special, but the wording in some places and the way the characters were written is what caught my attention the most. I simply loved the inner monologue of Sia, it was funny and always right where it belonged. I do feel like the relationship line is moving too quickly and I cannot catch up to it. Where did all their feelings come from? When did you have time to form the bond, guy? Where was I during those moment, you know? Like, I want them all to take a deep breath and slow down. Overall, the story was a little predictable in some places, but not to the point where it really bothered me. I guess Sia's meeting with the Council is going to be a memorable event, but definitely a pain. From everything I heard they are just a bunch of dicks and I cannot wait for Sia to put them all in their place. So, yeah, I'm excited for the next book.
You've got Sia, an orphaned virgin who just turned 21 after growing up rough in the foster system. Despite her rough start she has managed to carve out a family group around her place of employment including the long suffering guy friend who has an unrequited crush because Sia just isn't into guys. Then our dragons appear and she suddenly trusts and thinks guys are hot and within a week and a half goes for.uninterested virgin to definitely not a virgin. I hate when authors do this. It's lazy. While we are at it can we stop saying a woman's panties are drenched very time a guy glances at them. It's not sexy or enticing, it's really just pathetic. Just stop. Seriously. Stop.
Sia also instantly believes and accepts dragons are real because that's normal, you know two seconds of push back immediately followed by but wait these guys are hot and I always did think I was a little different. I mean come on. Have her run out, blame the head injury as explaining everything and dodge the guys who then start hanging out in the bar much to her annoyance. kitty doesn't have Billy kick them out because Sia can't tell her about the Dragon stuff (yet) bc she knows it's crazy and the boys are perfectly nice and polite and don't bother anyone other than Sia's odd affection and Kitty thinks Sia is just crushing on one of them and fighting it. so the guys are there for days or weeks in end getting to know tiny bits of each other building some trust until bam! Another attack and Sia can no longer deny everything. I don't understand why do many RH authors feel the need to cram the entire story into a week's time frame, this does not an epic romance make.
Beyond the forced and rushed romance some of the conflict is forced, like Sia suddenly opening up and the fall out that immediately follows that, and a lot of it is predictable. Before book one is over you already know what befell her parents, who, and the other perils she and the guys are going to face, some of it because it it foreshadowed so obviously you are hot in the face by it ruining the suspense, other elements are just too formulaic.
That said, RH reads that aren't horribly written and don't leave you cringing every other page are hard to find. This isn't going to be the best paranormal RH you ever read, but if you are looking for a fix this will do.
I became immersed in this world for the start. What a 21st birthday! Sia finds out who and what she is the hard way when she is attacked the night of said birthday. Waking up in the arms of a gorgeous stranger with several others nearby and surrounded by the devastation of the battle that had occurred, was the good part - or was it. She finds herself thrust into a world of dragons, serpents, and people trying to capture and kill her. Galen, Cass, Chase, and the insufferable Aric were the unlikely group that actually finally located Sia for the Elders. Each of these men are drawn to her and as she learns more about them as individuals, their traits and quirks, Sia finds herself not understanding how she can be having strong feeling for each, in turn - even Aric - hate him/love him? (annoying, yes, but he pulled me in the most!). Each character is so well defined, that I could visualize them easily, as if standing in their midst. And not just the main characters - you can feel the level of love, trust, friendship exuding Sia's human "family" from the bar. I definitely look forward to continuing to follow Sia's journey. Well done
This is like most of your typical RH series involving dragons. A female dragon is bound to be their leader but is thwarted by someone who wants all the power for themselves. The concept of the Great Serpent, the cult of sorcerers with weird half animal shapes, and the shadow dragon were all unique and creative twists the author added to make it stand out among the other dragon RH series.
I love Sia as a lead character mostly because of her background. She starts out as a timid woman who just wants to blend into the crowd but we really get to see her blossom into a strong willed woman ready to do whatever necessary to protect her loved ones. All of her men are unique in their own way and bring something a little different to the story. They each have their own personality and their individual dynamic with Sia in their relationship with her. I am excited to see these relationships develop over the next few books.
This is a great series opener and I can’t wait to read more. I highly recommend this series if you enjoy dragons, RH, action and drama, weird cults, and a woman who holds the future of an entire race just by being in existence.
Somehow the male dragons ran together to me. The only ones that stood out are Aric because, well you'll see. And Cass, again you'll see. I love me some Missi and Kitty though. And Sia, she could possibly be a little more BAMF throughout the whole book and not just the end. Please for the love of all, don't let me read her having more TSTL moments. It did end on an interesting note and I want to see how she handles the Counsel, so book 2.
Finally catching up on the books chosen for my book club. I am so sad that I didn't read it right away because this book was really fun to read. There is a reverse harem, dragon shifters, lost royalty and each guy has their own personality, sign me up! I read the whole book in a day and I loved it! I did a whole blog post about the book, so check that out if you want to read my thoughts on it!
This is a very YAL written book. If this book was marketed for 18 and younger, I would say "yep, that's about right." But since this is supposed to be for "mature" readers, I don't buy it.
The characters are 21+, but they could be 16 years old for how they talked and behaved.
A lot of action happens in such a small amount of time, which is a good thing but we didn't get a chance to see the story rest and develop organically.
It was a good story, nice take on dragons. It's a slow burn, so the steam has just barely started. Tou arent left with a total cliffhanger, ut there is more to come woth the story. Kidna went quick, tou got to know sia slot, but the rest, not as much. However, you dont feel cheated by that, yet.
The relationship between her and the guys went from point A to B way too fast. All of a sudden they have feelings towards each other and one of them is her mate, but I feel like I missed all that. The overall plot isn't exactly new but I still enjoyed reading it. It wasn't bad at all but I'm also not rushing to amazon to read the next installment.
Magic, shifters (kind of...), mythical dragons, evil cults, and a little PTSD thrown in. A lot for the MC to absorb in less than a week. Wow the story moves quickly, would like more character development -- it's easy to enjoy, even if a little fluffy on depth.
Whilst a typical kind of start to this book it did explain it away quickly. Liking the characters and great villains. Relationships moving along quite quickly too so all in all a good read and looking forward to next book. Don’t understand why Elders didn’t come to visit straight away but helped the plot to not have them there I suppose.

Great read. Couldn’t stop reading from beginning to end. Kept my attention from the whole time and had me laughing and almost crying at certain parts! Can’t wait to read the second book!
It was a push to not DNF this book, it was overly predictable, too similar to other better written books I’ve read. And Aric was just a jerk, once I realized his character was irredeemable, I stopped being interested.
Thought this was kinda boring and didn't find myself held by the plot or characters. 2 stars tho because I did finish the book, but I'm not interested in reading any of the rest of the series.
Quick easy read, especially if your coming down off a heavy reading binge and want something light. Good storyline, flows smoothly, well worth the read.
