What--or who--must she she sacrifice to break the curse?
An unstoppable killer is hunting Myrrh and her friends. Clutching tattered scraps of information that she received from a rogue who is now dead, Myrrh races to break the curse. Her best hope lies in unearthing secrets from the ancestral home of Glint, a man who holds power over both the city's underworld and her heart.
Unfortunately, when Myrrh arrives at Glint's mountain stronghold, an unexpected situation shatters her plans for a quiet investigation. The schemes of a power-hungry villain grip the region, threatening to accelerate her doom.
The shadow of long-forgotten oaths spills over the land and races toward Ostgard. Can Myrrh make the unthinkable choices it will take to stop the dark tide?
____________ Queen of Tricksters picks up right where Ruler of Scoundrels ended. Myrrh is still running her syndicate in Rat Town, but circumstances are driving her to Craghold . . . the same stronghold where her mentor, Hawk, was once held prisoner. Hawk is in trouble, broken from his time of imprisonment, and Myrrh is determined to find him a cure.
But Craghold is a place of danger and mystery. And the deeper Myrrh digs into its secrets, the more questions she uncovers rather than answers.
Twists and turns galore. I love rooting for Myrrh as a dynamic, tough, and ultimately very likeable heroine. The odds stack higher and higher against her, but that only makes her fight back harder. The ongoing tension between her and Glint is to die for, and I can’t wait to see where their adventures leads.
Myrrh is desperate to save Hawk before the death cloak can take any more lives! To break his curse Myrrh travels to Craghold, Gilnt's childhood home and the place where Hawk was held prisoner to find a cure for the curse. The warm welcome she is expecting as the heir's intended turns instead to a mission of dangerous reconaissance!
Nab's thief skills prove invaluable on the trip to Craghold. Will Myrrh be able to keep him headed toward an honest life back at home in Rat Town?
With partial answers, Myrrh returns to Ostgard but faces even greater challmges at home. Can she compromise her morals to free her mentor? The romance with Glint is on rocky ground and Myrrh has discovered a threat to his life! Will these two ever have a chance together? Of course the responsiblilty for Rat Town, as always, is on her shoulders.
Each of the books in the Chronicles of a Cutpurse have totally separate plotlines with their own extremely exciting adventures. They share a diverse array of intriguing base characters, complete with backstories, with new ones introduced in each book. It is set in a richly developed and well described world that you will love to visit again and again. For the best experience read from the begining because some plot elements carry through and there will be cliff hangers! You will be anxiously waiting for the next installment but Ms. Summers doesn't make you wait too long.
I received this novel as an ARC from the author Ms. Summers. Thank you!! This novel continues where the previous novel left off. Myrrh is running Rat Town, but needs to travel to Craghold. Craghold is Glint's (aka Dominick) property where his father help Hawk. Hawk needs help and Myrrh plans on doing just that, finding a cure. However, strange things are going on in and around Craghold. Myrrh and her companions need to figure out what is going on and return to Rat Town as soon as possible. What they discover is not what they had expected, which leads to more questions than answers. Not finding a cure, they all return to Rat Town. Myrrh warns Glint that assassins are after him based on the information they discovered at Craghold, much which Glint had no idea that someone had taken control and was manipulating the people's minds. Myrrh needs to discover the truth and a way to save Hawk and these people. Glint is attacked and Myrrh is the only one who can help him. Myrrh's search leads her to an unexpected complication and a deeper conspiracy. I enjoyed the plot twists and the conclusion...which makes me curious as to what will happen next!
Carrie Summers does it again, her third book in the series Chronicles of a Cutpurse, is as exciting as the first two books were and just as packed with adventures. Myrrh is as full of schemes and action as usual and this time she is making her way to Craghold to try and find the means to release Hawk from whatever is holding his mind captive. When she arrives there though, she finds more than she bargained for. However, because she is Myrrh, she dares more than anyone in order to succeed in her mission. Returning back to Rat Town she faces yet more problems, one of which is the threat to Glint’s safety and she is forced to make some difficult choices because though she is a thief and the head of her syndicate she still retains a conscience. The love story between her and Glint is still very shaky even though it is obvious to everyone that they both love one another. The book ends on a cliff hanger yet again making us, the readers cry out for more in this excellent fun, fast–paced action series full of very charismatic characters.
I love Carrie Summers’s novels and the first two books of her Chronicles of a Cutpurse were a total blast, so it’s no surprise that I was delighted to get my hands on Queen of Tricksters, Book 3 of the series. This book is, quite simply, extremely imaginative and superbly written. It had just what I wanted and was well written and with a great plot and great cast of characters. I frankly adore Myrrh and love watching her take on all comers, even “unstoppable killers”. The rest of the cast of characters is pretty amazing as well. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend.
The third installment of the Chronicles of a Cutpurse has Myrrh hunting for a cure for her mentor Hawk, who has been Oath Bound, is under the influence of the Death Cloak. All those around Myrrh are marked to die by this dark force. When she returns to origin, the childhood home castle of Glint, she finds a pretender sitting on the throne, his alliance protected by oath bound vassals who act with no mind of their own.
Returning with the pretender to Ostgard and her collection of thieves, Myrrh must find a way to release Hawk while protecting all those under her care.
This exciting chapter in Myrrh’s journey will keep the reader glued to the pages and will set the stage for further adventures. Looking forward to the next adventure.
I received an ARC of this book This book in one sentence: Myrrh leaves the city to stop a curse that is killing her friends, and uncovers an evil scheme that threatens the whole region. My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Steaminess: 🌶️ My recommendation: I thought this series was a trilogy. It's not. But I think that clouded my perception of this book, because I kept thinking that things were going to resolve, but they don't. Carrie Summers writing is still solid, and Myrrh is a fun character. This book is an interesting expansion to the Chronicles of a Cutpurse universe, but really, I want more scenes with Myrrh and Glint.
Summers is fast becoming one of my all time fav authors with this series. It is chalk full of action from one page to the next. This book got me a teared up many times because of the damage oathbinding caused. And Bartholomew is a worm to the nth degree. It was good to see things are still in flux with Glint and Myrrh. I can't wait to see what happens in Book 4 since this ended on a cliff hanger. Makes me wonder if these two will ever get a break. I'm glad I received this book and ongoing reviewing of the series. Kudo for Summers keeping me on the edge of my seat.
What a fantastic next installment in this series! I will say one of my favorite parts of the series is the relationship between Myrrh and Glint; and in this book there is not much interaction there because Myrrh is traveling to try and discover how to break Hawk’s curse. And of course, it ends with a cliffhanger!!! Which of course, leaves me anxiously awaiting the next book! Love this series!
I have read this whole series and I am in love with this series. I love the way Carrie Summers Writes her stories and her charatcers are to die for . When I started reading this book and series I didn't think I would like it but forund out I did very much. I recommend this book and author to everyone who loves a wonderful story.
I received an ARC and am giving an unbias opinion.
Her family has been marked for death and she has to choose which one to sacrifice so she can break the curse her family is under. Who will she sacrifice? Can she find a way to beat the curse without losing any of her family? See if she can I received an advanced copy and I enjoyed it so much that I want to review
The only disappointment I had was when I realized there is at least one more book in the Chronicles of a Cutpurse. I love Myrrh's heroic heart and altruistic drive solving problems in the most creative, adventurous of ways. Fun, flirty and fast paced. I would have read all three books in a day if work were optional. I am excited to read her other books!
Once again Carrie has sent Myrrh on a remarkable journey to help those she cares for. I was a very nice fast paced story that kept me reading late into the night. I look very forward to more from this author.
I can't wait to get my hands on the continuation. The author has done an amazing job pacing out the plot and relationships. Very excited to see what happens next!
The World Got More Fantastic, But Unending Unrequited Love is Tedious Although I "get" the plot device of lovers who can't be together because of circumstance, it gets painful as its drug on into a third book.
The world does get a little more fantasy, as some of the other substances Myrrh stole from Rattle get understood, and utilized. Still pretty low fantasy, healing herbs, herb to make your sight better at night, but the tracking of peoples essence was pretty cool, and admirably described.
Author continues to prove she isn't afraid of killing off characters that have been well established in order to maintain a certain dark grittiness to the world.
The oathbinding seemed like a sudden over-powered magical effect that didn't really fit into the established world. And it was hard to understand / ill described. And it pulled the whole story far away from the running of a thieves guild in a city and planning and pulling off jobs, which frankly is much more appropriate for a "Queen of Tricksters" to be undertaking.
This next installment of Chronicles of a Cutpurse series definitely had me flipping pages until the last one. I love the way Ms. Summers paints her characters such that even though they are thieves, street thugs, and some assassins, there is always something to love about them. She also does well with describing settings so that the reader can picture it vividly, i.e., as Myrrh was traveling on horseback in the rain soaking wet in a heavy velvet dress, I could feel the heaviness of it and it’s scratching against my skin. One adventure after another left Myrrh with not much time to rest or change clothes. She eventually finds the key to unlocking the “death curse”. Myrrh never ceases to astound me with her cleverness and fortitude. I can safely say that I highly recommend reading this book and any book written by Carrie Summers. They are all excellent.
