Solving Cold Cases #4

Solving Cold Cases: Vol. 4: True Crime Stories That Took Years to Crack

Rate this book
Chilling. One of the best words to describe the cases recounted in this book. These gruesome crimes seemed to hit a dead end… That is until the cases were reopened for investigation, and then solved, thanks to modern technologies and new investigation techniques.

Cold cases are such an intriguing phenomenon that it’s easy to forget how rare they actually are. Only a few of the countless crimes committed every year become truly cold cases. The fact is that most crimes are relatively straightforward to solve, and it’s probably for this very reason that so many of us crave a real 'who done it' mystery. It is the cases with random twists and unknown dimensions that capture our imagination more than any others.

All sorts of things can happen when a murder is committed, leaving us puzzled as we just can’t seem to figure out how the crime happened. However, with the capabilities of contemporary science and different ways of thinking in people throughout the ages and places, even these crimes can get solved! Check out fifteen such cases which will get your gears turning.

Some of the cases included inside:
• Krystal Beslanowitch
• Anna Palmer
• Suzanne Nauman
• The Crackhead killings
• and many more

And if that’s indeed what brought you to this book, you can rest assured that it contains some of the most spine-chilling, eyebrow-raising, and head shaking cold cases you could ever imagine. And remember—these aren’t fictitious figments of some rabid writer’s imagination. This is real life, and real people who spent years languishing in the forensic files of investigators waiting for the day they’d see justice. And that’s the other great thing about all of the cold cases presented in this book—each and every one of them has been solved!

Unraveling the past

There is a certain feeling attached to the word "cold," as in " I've let my coffee (or tea) get cold" or "Yuk! Now my French fries are cold." We realize, of course, that cold is not real; it is only the absence of heat, which IS real.

We are grateful for the investigators who dust off these cold cases and bring warmth to them. We can almost imagine a case waking up, rubbing its eyes and saying, "Let's give it another go, shall we? "

Many of these case files hold the answers. We just didn't have the tools to read them at the time. DNA can point out the guilty party as well as rule out an innocent suspect. I look forward to reading about more solved cold cases.

A very short and to-the-point book listing some cold cases from across the English-speaking world. I would have liked more information on exactly why they were cold cases and what research was happening in the intervening years rather than jumping immediately to the conclusion.

I also feel that Clark put far too much hyperbole and emotion into the book - I completely understand it, these are definitely abhorrent crimes and it must be hard to write about them without some sense of disgust or dismay, but I had expected it to be a more factual and objective read than it was.

In the opening paragraphs, the author laments that sometimes the victim is known by the neighborhood, and sometimes it is a traveling victim who has no one to care for a final resolution. Yet, the detective's dogged determination to find justice is what cracks complex cases.

One interesting case was one that, instead of being the murder of two teen females, was a freak accident. Forty-plus years later, when the water in a local river receded significantly, the missing car (with the girls) appeared under a bridge.

This author points out the difference between the date of the victim's death and the date of conviction. This author writes in a readable, entertaining style.

I hate to label a book such as this, ‘easy reading’, because of the nature of its topic, but it’s a short book, without huge detail and works well as a ‘filler’ study book

Some proofreading would have been good and I could have done without the judgy comments about the victims.
