The Werewolf's Fae Mate

Rate this book
He never expected his mate to be fae. Now he has to choose between his heart and his pack.

When mixed-blood werewolf Mahon comes across powerful fae magic in a nightclub, dealing with the threat is a chance to prove to his new pack where his loyalties lie. But the threat turns out to be a gorgeous, wide-eyed college student who’s never heard of the supernatural world. After they're attacked by bloodsucking vampire bats, he takes Oscar and his small, angry cat home for their own protection. He’ll definitely tell his pack about Oscar...later.

Abandoned as an infant, Oscar’s always wondered where he came from—he just never expected the answer to include pointy ears, magical powers, and evil forces trying to kill him. Oscar knows he shouldn’t rely on Mahon for help, but it’s hard to resist when a six-foot-six werewolf literally sweeps you off your feet. The key to Oscar’s past might lie with the local fae court—where werewolves aren’t welcome.

Oscar and Mahon are mates—but how can they be together when it might cost them both everything?

The Werewolf’s Fae Mate is an m/m paranormal werewolf/fae romance with a HEA and no cliffhangers.

~3.5~

This is a fun little story, not overly sexed up, but still plenty of Claiming and Mating and MINE MINE MINE.

When Mahon tracks down Oscar, a high faerie, the poor guy has no idea that he is one. He's never heard of magic or shifters or, heaven forbid, faeries. But Oscar is nothing if not resilient.

Prepare for insta love, a wolf who mind talks, a fluffy kitten who thinks he's a tiger, blood bats, and an evil lord.

I wish the story had been longer, because the world building and relationship development were lacking (especially after Oscar and Mahon finally decided that COMMUNICATION! It's a thing.) But that didn't stop me from enjoying the book.

There's plenty of room for a series, too.

This was a fun story, but I would've loved if it had been full-length vs. only around 100'ish pages.

Oscar was completely adorable. And clueless.

I did find myself expecting to discover that Marshmallow was something 'more' than just Oscar's ferocious, fluffy kitty, some type of protector perhaps, but that didn't happen.

Other than the short length, my only complaint that The End of The Big Bad was over in a flash. Literally.

The sexy bits were plentiful and steamy, so no complaints there.

I'd rate this one at around 3.5 stars and did thoroughly enjoy it, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a quick paranormal read.

** Note: I'm *dying* to read Mahon's twin brother Adrian's story. He was stuck in wolf form, but was still such an upbeat character, despite his circumstance.

Whether somethings a good surprise or surprisingly good...

it's still full of goodness. When I read the blurb for this it just sounded like too good of a story to pass up on, so I didn't.

Oscar's never known anything about his past and when he suddenly becomes the focus of attention for more than a few members of the paranormal community...vampires, elves, werewolves. His life becomes a whole lot more adventurous and luckily it's one of those members who turns out to be his salvation.

When Mahon investigates mysterious happenings at a dance club and follows the magical trail that's been left expecting to find an arrogant and powerful paranormal he's more than a little surprised to find an unknowing, innocent and utterly adorable elf named Oscar along with his small, furry and fearless cat.

I loved Oscar. He was this adorable guy who while totally clueless about his heritage, totally knew what he wanted to do with the big, hunky alpha male who came knocking on his door. He also had the best cat ever...seriously that little furball had no sense of self-preservation...zero, zip, zilch, nada! But his protective instincts were awesome...Oscar was his people and he was going to protect him no matter what.

Next we have Mahon...the big, tough, alpha male who while he was initially clueless as to why his instincts about Oscar were so strong it didn't stop him from acting on them...sort of because heaven forbid he let Oscar know how much he cared.

These two guys were so worried about scaring each other off that...well, that's what they did. Luckily for Mahon, he has a twin, Aidan who's more than happy to talk some sense into his head...and there's another story that I want to find out more about but hopefully Aidan will be another story and who knows maybe we'll find out more about Zeke as well...I mean what's a paranormal story without a Succubus, right?

Liv Rider is a new to me author and I was so pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this story my only regret like some of my friends is that there wasn't more. This is a short read at somewhere around the 100 page mark and it has the potential to be longer...with a lot more character and world building before it even begins to wear thin. There are more than a few interesting secondary characters whom I would love to see the author give stories to and just to see the world that's begun in this book expanded would definitely be an enjoyable adventure, but in the meantime if you like paranormal and you're looking for a fairly fast paced and enjoyable story I definitely recommend 'The Werewolf's Fae Mate'.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

The Werewolf’s Fae Mate is a short read, but Liv Rider has successfully packed her story full of mystery, danger, romance, and paranormal action.

Oscar is a fun character. He is young and after a childhood spent in the foster care system, is desperate not to feel the “aloneness” that plagues him. Rider is able to combine Oscar’s vulnerability with the immense fae power he has unknowingly acquired from both of his biological parents. Oscar is faced with a variety of challenges throughout The Werewolf’s Fae Mate, but he never exhibits any fear, although he is understandably wary of the paranormal world he is now a part of. I think the fact that Oscar is such a natural and amicable character helps to make his journey all the more engaging.

THE WEREWOLF'S FAE MATE was a quick and easy read with a fated mates story between a wolf shifter and a fae. Mahon and Oscar were both really likable characters and there's not too much drama surrounding their relationship. At first Oscar has no idea he's fae but he quickly adapts to the existence of magic and other paranormal things. While there wasn't anything that really jumped out to me, this was still a very solid paranormal romance. I'm curious to read more from this author.

DNF'd at 41% mark

I picked this novella because I wanted something light. Someone had recced it on Twitter and, to me, the high-crack factor was a v. alluring incentive to start reading it.

Both MCs were charming enough for me to continue flipping the pages...until somewhere around the 30% of the book when the plot sped up. Which, in turn, had two characters who had been literal strangers fall into lust and then instalove in a blink of an eye.

And that was my main problem with this story: the pacing was outrageously fast. I do believe that I'd have enjoyed the book a lot more if there had been an extra 100 pages. If only so that the characters didn't have to make ALL THE DECISIONS in the space of a few seconds.

TL;DR: A novella that started fun (I loved Marshmallow, the fiercest cat ever), but moved way too quickly for me. Though it was obvious that Oscar and Mahon were meant for each other, the instalove deffo killed what remained of my enthusiasm for the story. I'm not continuing the series and am completely uninterested in reading anything else by this author.

I liked this book. I love reading about fae and how they are with their mates. This one was well paced with danger and a nasty old geezer trying to kill off Oscar, sexy times and a happy ever after.

Oscar is a young student who grew up in foster care and doesn't know who his family is. His life is pretty ordinary until a fateful encounter at a bar. Since that moment he goes on a journey to find his family and his heritage. Mahon is a half breed and can't seem to find a place in the paranormal world. When this two meet first time there is mutual attraction. They kind of take it slow but many events interfere. Oscar's past is revealed and Mahon finds out they are mates.

Due to many misunderstandings Oscar ends up being put in danger but in the end Mahon comes up to scratch and saves the day. He also finally finds out where he belongs and accepts his place in the pack. I enjoyed reading it, it was fun especially the part about crazy cat, that was very amusing. One part I didn't like was that the situation with Mahon's brother Aidan was not resolved and since this is not a series but a standalone it's kind of annoying not to know the why of it and it's just left there hanging. I mean if the problem was going to stay the same why bring it up at all. He was a secondary character but still important. I would have liked to know that he was fine in the end.

Otherwise it was a very nice book.

I really liked this book. Loved both Oscar and Mahon as the main characters. I thought the story itself was good. I just wish the author had put in a little more detail into the story. I wanted to know more about what happened after the events of the book, especially concerning the fae. I just wanted a little more world building. Despite that, I enjoyed the story and would read more in this world given the opportunity.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was an enjoyable story, it didn’t feel very in depth but still a nice read. Mahon has seen the bad side of the relationship of werewolves and the fae. This makes it even harder to make a decision regarding Oscar and his own doubts cause him to push Oscar to find out about his family.

Oscar is so cute and doesn’t know about his heritage but trusts Mahon and his brother to help him. Mahon needs to learn to let go of some of his assumptions on how others will be treated and I’m glad he has found a place that will accept him and his mate.

A copy of The Werewolf's Fae Mate was given to me by Liv Rider for an honest review.

This review will also be spoiler free.

To be honest: You can never go wrong with a book that has a cat namend Marshmallow! ^^ Especially one that's such a fierce, fearless and outright adorable Princess! :D Is it wrong to ask for a book writen from the cat's POV? Probably ^^

This book is quite short (I read it in an hour or less), but it was so much fun! Right from the begining the reader is thrown into the story, and taken on a journay with quite a few turns. I adore Oscar, the "new" Fea, and Mahon the mixed-blood werewolf, but the one that stole the show (the cat) is Aidan, Mahon's brother. I swear, he needs his own book, Mrs. Rider, you can't leave us hanging! ;_;

A night out dancing reveals that Oscar is so much more than he ever thought, and also brings Mahon to his doorsteps. Hilarity ensures, danger follows, and who can forget the pull of the mating bond?

I can't really go into much detail because this book is so short, so I'll keep myself short too.

You'll like this book if you like:
- the supernatural (ofc)
- cats
- mates
- court systems & magic (I really want to learn more about both of them pls)
- friendship (between brothers, the pack)
- fluff!
- 3rd pov, dual view
- low angst

The reason why I can "only" give The Werewolf's Fae Meate 4 Stars is because of a personal issue of mine, which I'll put under a spoiler tag.

To sum it up: I really enjoyed reading The Werewolf's Fae Mate! <3

Good but abrupt…

The story was whole, with a beginning, middle and end, but it was short as hell. Very little detail on the whole of things. I suppose I mean the world building part.

You meet Oscar first, whose in a club, being accosted by a man that seems to want to lick or bite him. Then you meant Mahon, whose a security expert or some shit for his pack who owns the club that Oscar was accosted in. Then they meet and Mahon discloses the truth of the world to him. While still in this meeting of the minds, Oscar is attacked and Mahon saves then takes him to his home. During the couple of days living there, not even a full week, they both realize their feeling for each other, in different ways, and neither decide to share for some fear or another.

Mahon keeps thinking to tell his alpha about Oscar, but never does… which doesn’t make sense in part because it seemed like Mahon lived on pack lands, as in all the pack resided in the same area and Oscar was driven through this area and lived there for a bit all while being unable to control his magical signature… plus it is implied that fae and werewolves don’t rock like that, let no one seemed alarmed of a fae being in pack lands…

And after Oscar discovers that fae, werewolves and vampires exist, an incubus is just thrown in the mix casually. I swear Oscar cat is a shifter or some shit as well, even though nothing in the story says so explicitly. I just think a little more background into the types of supernaturals that exist and the world itself should have been provided considering that this is the first book in a series. The alpha of Mahon’s pack is mysterious as well. The antagonist was just killed off and nothing came of it despite talk of the Triumvirate and supernatural law and order. Then the book basically just ended…

See my notes, highlights and commentary on Goodreads. Happy reading!

When a powerful fae who does not know about his magic and a lone wolf meet by chance, sparks fly…
Oscar is a fae who does not know about magic until he is attacked by a vampire in a night-club. While trying to escape the predator’s clutch, he lets lose a flare of powerful magic. Mahon is a lone wolf, a mix of werewolf and fae who does not seem able to find his place with any of the two. When he goes to the nightclub to investigate the magic fire, he finds a trail of magic that leads him to a very unprotected Oscar… who happens to be his mate. Soon, they are both on the run, and Mahon has to decide if protecting his mate is more important than his loyalty to his pack. But when Oscar finds himself in a deadly situation, Mahon realises there is nothing to decide…
This is a short, fast paced story, with a lot of promise in it. I recognise I really liked both characters, and enjoyed the plot. There was a lot of action, some adventure, a bit of anguish, hot encounters and humour. So it had all the elements to make it a really enjoyable story. The only fault is that it felt a bit rushed, the characters and adventures certainly deserved more attention. It seems to me there was space for much more in this story...
I liked it.

This was a fascinating read to me. The characters are well done and very distinctive. Mahon (half werewolf, half fae) and, Oscar (pure fae) are true mates, and engaging in their own ways, with elemental powers that Oscar has to learn to use. I also liked Aidan, Mahon's brother who had his own set of issues, that I was hoping would be fixed by the end of the story, somehow. However, Mahon sometimes drove me bonkers with his lack of communication towards Oscar. I mean, he wanted Oscar to, "keep his options open", with everything (his life choices) that he's facing, without letting Oscar know what all of his options even are, leading to misunderstood actions (which I detest). The plot was intriguing, and the villain was definitely extraordinary. I loved the writing structure, and the ending was so heartwarmingly beautiful. Oscar had a crazy cat named, Marshmallow, who was brave, fierce, and pretty feral at times, making the last line of the book totally amusing. Loved this.

Welcome to fae finagling: fated to halfbreed and cluelessly cursed lineages

Short PNR with a quickly moving fae and shifter theme

Due to it’s brief length, this novella left me wanting more, but the protagonists - a shifter/fae half-blood discover his human mate is actually a fae in danger - were interesting, the supporting characters (including a shifter/fae halfblood stuck in wolf form, a solid Alpha wolf, and a typically scheming Fae Lord), and the setting all showed great promise for such a short work. Throw in some man-on-man heat, and it’s quickly enjoyable gay paranormal story if it leaves this reader wanting more of this world and the side characters (Aidan, Sabal, Jamila, Zeke), and ideally more depth from this author’s character, relationship/chemistry, and plot/conflict ideas.

The search for family

The search for family

A fast paced and fiery romance! With the mate bond this is a bit of an insta-love story but it works really well. Oscar and Mahon are attracted to each other right off the bat but the whole supernatural thing confuses everything. Mahon is half fae half werewolf and has spent a life rejected by both halves, leaving him with trust issues. Oscar has grown up human and alone, left as a baby, but can seen how commitment scares other guys away. Their fears could have been eased by talking to each other and to the Pack, but those very conversations scared them so it made sense. As the heat between them built the impending decisions for Oscar of fae court or wolf pack built the tension until everything comes crashing down. Well paced, good relationship, and an enjoyable story.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Mahon and Oscar are a really cute couple. There is a sweetness and heat to their relationship (though a bit heavy on the "mate" connection to explain the insta-love). I liked the pacing and there was enough drama to keep me turning pages. Even the miscommunication moments actually fit with the characters. Really enjoyed the story and it makes for a cute, quick afternoon read.

I do wish the story had been a bit longer to give a bit more depth. It wasn't that the story was incomplete in anyway, I just felt like there were parts that could have been expanded a bit more.

So I'm really hoping we'll see Aiden in a later book, I'd love to see him get an HEA.

The foundation of this story was good, but the short length didn’t do it any favors. This is the first book in series and as such, a lot is thrown our way. But things happen so fast, most of it is forgettable. The entire opening sequence, with Oscar at the club, was just confusing. And then followed almost immediately by Mahon showing up at Oscar’s place and the attack of the poison-breathing bats just made things crazier to follow. Most of the story is driven by poor communication between Oscar and Mahon. The most sensible character is Mahon’s brother Aiden.
The characters are likable, including Saba, the pack alpha, so hopefully the following stories in this series will take their time to really develop the plot line and characters.

I love all the paranormal m/m romances from this author. A faerie isn't aware of his heritage, and a werewolf steps in to protect him when threats emerge. A bit of the classic "I'm afraid to tell him I like him because I'm unsure of his feelings for me" is used for both men.
I only wish it were longer or had sequels. That's true for all the books.
Typo: verb tense: "They wouldn't do much damage, but Piron's guards will still have to investigate." The second verb should be in the past tense: would.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Faes were quite new to me so I didn't know what to expect. Oscar, innocent and unknowing of his legacy almost got killed while rescued by Mahon, a werewolf/fae himself... when the tough gets going both of them realise it's worth to fight for each other - and that's what they do. Namely Mahon saving him one more time. I loved this one very much. The characters are strong, the story is well thought through and beside this, fast paced. So, you'll enjoy it.

Action, intrigue and combine some werewolves, fae, vampires, incubus and a really protective cat and you have a gotta read story! I liked the world-building and the writing flowed well. The characters were all well drawn and i think there are lots of stories in this pack to be told. i read this in one sitting and enjoyed every page.

Mahon and Oscar were so terrific together. They have to learn to communicate what they are really thinking and feeling but they have so much connection.

I loved this story about fated mates, a werewolf and a fae Mahon and Oscar. Mahon saves Oscar’s life a couple of times and I feel so sad for Oscar he was so alone until he met Mahon. I thought that Mahon should of communicated more with Oscar but I guess it wouldn’t of been much of a story if he did. A great read and I throughly enjoyed it and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Who cant pass a book about Wolves and Fairies all in one. Oscar does not have a family and when he meets Mahon all that he knew is about to change. The best part is Oscar cat and way that she try to protect her owner even if it means going up against a big wolf. The journey that these two travel and the miscommunication that had about their feeling for each other. Cant wait to see what happens in the next book hopefully we see more of Mahon brother. highly recommend this book

I was about to DNF at 45% but decided to push on. It took me 3 days to get to that point. I don't know which would have been better. For some reason the 1st sex scene turned me off the story. Then I skimmed a tiny bit and decided to continue on. The MCs were likable enough on their own and as a couple. The world written was interesting. Although the many small miscommunication issues got old fast.

Werewolves and the Fae. Interesting combo.

A slightly confused and broken Fae and a Faewolf. What could possibly go wrong? Or right? Oscar just makes you want to cuddle and protect him. Manon is definitely the image of a hero type all muscles and sex. I intend to definitely read more of this series.
