Kati Wilde is a tight-lipped, loose-hipped woman of indeterminate age and low breeding. Born into a very large family, she now has a very small family (no laws were broken in this transition), and she writes romantic fiction to assuage her darker urge to write Transformers erotica. She lives in Oregon, so most of you are safely far enough away, and has two old cats.

Kati writes the Hellfire Riders MC romance series and will be publishing her first New Adult novel, Going Nowhere Fast, with Berkley later this year.

About Our Series:

The Motorcycle Clubs series is for romance readers who want all the heat and emotion, but who don’t have all of the time. At this time, we are only publishing novellas — our intention is to provide readers with short (yet satisfying) MC romances. Sometimes we might continue one couple’s story over several novellas, but each individual novella will have a satisfying romantic resolution. Because they are short, we focus the stories on the eroticism and romance, and will be building the MC worlds as each series progresses.

I read this because it's part of a series about royal weddings that I stumbled across on Kindle, and I enjoyed The King's Spinster Bride, so much. It's very different from that book. It's a contemporary romance. The only connecting theme between books is they're about an arranged marriage and the hero is a king. I gave this five stars because it hit the marks on the three things I really look for in a good book: character, emotion, and story. The arranged married is a tried and true trope. It works because it throws two people together into instant intimacy and they have to figure out how to make that relationship work. This book deals with the emotional component of that in a way that's insightful and to my mind, true.

Victoria has spent most of her adult life waiting for her arranged fiancé to remember that they're supposed to be marrying. She's about to get done with waiting when Maximilian finally is ready to marry. But he hasn't been playing around and avoiding marrying her the whole time. He's been busy trying to rebuild his failing country and it's been a lot of long, hard work. He's finally at the point where he can devote himself to a wife and being a husband. I liked the aspect that Maximilian wasn't a playboy. He wasn't sowing his wild oats. He was doing meaningful, important work, and he's honored his betrothal, being faithful to his fiancee the whole time. Having said that, Victoria still has some emotional damage because she's viewed his lack of attention to her as disinterest and being dismissed, even though that isn't the case. Maximilian has to show that he values her as a unique person and not just as his future queen, mother of his children. I loved how the book shows their courtship.

This book is very sexy and it has some really frank sexual language. They use all the words you would imagine to describe sex, the body parts and the things that go along with it. It was done in a manner that I thought was successful, although it did throw me how salty Maximilian's language was. I didn't expect that from a king, but I guess that goes along with having been in the military.

I love a hero who's celibate and sexually faithful, but just plain horny for the heroine. He was Victoria-sexual. That definitely is one of my favorite tropes for heroes. I found Maximilian wildly appealing. He acts like a grown man. Knows his business and I loved how he cements their relationship. Victoria was class A as well. I could identify with her sense of hurt about being ignored for twelve years. She wasn't petulant or mean about it. It was authentic feeling, but Victoria acted like an adult about it, and learns that she has the right to advocate for her needs.

For a shorter novel, this had a lot to offer. The sex scenes are off the chart, but they are safe for readers who don't go for the more non-vanilla kind of erotic content. Just plenty of descriptive scenes with plenty of 'dirty talk.'

I'll read more by Kati Wilde.

I've had so much going on lately, I haven't had much time for pleasure reading. This book really encouraged me to get back into reading for fun, especially romance, which is my favorite genre, but I just haven't felt as invested in lately. I recommend it to readers who like the arranged marriage/royalty trope, and folks who like Harlequin Presents type books but with more steam, just not anything too out of their comfort zones.

I liked this contemporary, royalty romance. Victoria (h) and Maximillian (H) have been betrothed for 12 years as part of an agreement her father made while he was basically saving Maximillian's kingdom. Victoria was 16 at the time and I forget how old Maximillian was but there is an age gap. Since then, Victoria has been in a waiting period of serving the kingdom in her way and waiting to be married. Except Maximillian was focused on the kingdom and not really giving his betrothed any thoughts until the kingdom was finally in a better place. This book is focused on their relationship with a bit of angst. The story is written in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama, h is a virgin and H is not but he has been celibate since the betrothal was made, no bc used.

I really liked Victoria, she's sweet, capable, giving, sassy, and she does speak up for herself, although not as much at first. I also liked Maximillian, I just wanted to shake him several times to get him to see how he had inadvertently hurt Victoria so he could work on fixing things. There is a bit of drama because his advisors wanted him to choose someone else, but he was focused on her, even though at first it's more for honor than because of her personally. But we do get to see him realize all that she has to offer, which is more than his advisors knew too. The paparazzi also plays a role, but more so in reminding her of insecurities than causing rifts. There's insta-lust at first, that develops into more, and plenty of steam with dirty talk. I did believe in these two's romance and while the ending was HFN technically, I was certain they'd be together forever. I would have loved an extended epilogue but then I always want one.

As I read this, all I could think of was hurt, unfairness, disappointment, and dissatisfaction with the utterly unbelievable romance. I would rate this 4 stars for the writing style, story flow, and pain this story caused me. But if I could give a 0 for the craptastic romance presented here, I would gladly do so.

===== Victoria =====

Maximilian and Victoria were betrothed when she was just sixteen and he was twenty. After a 12-year engagement, she was still pining, waiting, and fulfilling all the duties expected of a queen. However, she received no recognition or appreciation for her efforts.

She was perfect to be a queen, and the years had only strengthened her suitability and preparedness for the position. She has accomplished great things over the past 12 years because she is a selfless person who only wants what is best for her people and her country. Also, she didn't want Maximilian to think less of her, so she did everything in her power to make sure he wouldn't regret agreeing to marry her.

She was a goddamn faithful fiancée who never strayed. At first, I admired her loyalty, but after reading the story, I hated it with every fiber of my being. I feel like she wasn't given what she deserved here, and she deserves so much more. She had been a virgin for 28 years and had been patiently and foolishly waiting for him the entire time.

===== Maximilian =====

Maximilian, on the other hand, was appointed king at the age of twenty and has been carrying out his responsibilities for the past twelve years. He was so focused on helping his country after suffering under his father's rule that he never gave Victoria a second thought during all those years.

Sure, he assigned people to keep tabs on her and notify him of important events in her life, but that was basically what he did. He made no attempt to get to know her or find out what she was up to. Even when he didn't receive any updates, it never bothered him.

They only ever met once in the twelve years they were betrothed, and that was at her father's funeral when she was eighteen. He communicated with her once by congratulating her in a letter, after learning about her college graduation from his people, and that was the first and last from him.

You see the picture? For over ten years, he has been engaged, but he has only met and communicated with his fiancée once. Maximilian was occupied with his royal duties. He never even thought about her. Meanwhile, Victoria spent the previous twelve years waiting and getting ready for him.

Thinking that he could handle additional responsibilities, he made the decision to stick to their agreement. He wants to marry her at last and hopefully have an heir. Maximilian doesn't love Victoria; he informed his advisors that he has to marry her because it is his duty and obligation.

So before meeting her, again, he requested her dossier and when he saw her photos, he fell in lust immediately. When he did eventually get to meet her, his desire to be close to her was motivated solely by his physical attraction to her.

===== Overall =====

Like I said, I felt a lot of hurt as I read this book, and I hate the fact that Victoria dedicated her entire life to serving her fiancee/king. She has been in love with him since she was sixteen, and she has gone to great lengths to please him. For Maximilian, she was more of a duty to be performed than anything else, and he never gave her a second thought throughout their entire engagement. And I hate it so much!

After less than two weeks of being together, he finally admitted that he had fallen for her, and I nearly threw my Kindle because it was so unbelievable! It wasn't until 77% that he came to that realization.

And Victoria, this selfless and stupid heroine, gave in so quickly and took him in without much resistance. He caused her a great deal of pain! How can she fold up so fast? She is deserving of so much more than that! 😭

There is nothing remotely romantic about this, so I find it hard to understand how it can even be called romance. Up to 80% of the book, it was one-sided love! Also, it was implied that he used sex to soothe her doubts about his love. So is this the grovel?? And really, off page?? I want to watch him struggle to convince her that he is honestly in love, and I didn't see any of it.

Why did I finish this? 😭 The only positive here is that he remained celibate for the duration of their engagement.

Edited for grammar. Lol

1.5 stars.

I loathed the premise of this story, but only after I started reading it. I guess I didn't understand the blurb properly, since the real situation between the MCs was completely different than my expectations. Please don't click if you don't want any . And then this just devolved into lots of sex and coarse language. Even with the skimming, I couldn't unsee some of those words. Needless to say, intimacy can be classy even if it's on the page, so I'm pretty sure this author's writing isn't for me. If you like spineless h's, clueless H's, and lots of sex and swearing, this is for you. If not, skipping it won't be a bad thing.

"The King's Horrible Bride" is the story of Victoria and Maximilian.
This Royal wedding book by Kati had all the spicy drama I love
-A couple in heavy lust separated by circumstances
-A marriage of convenience
-A rich hero/poor heroine (comparitively)
-Some HQN ish newspaper drama
-Some very non-HQN leaky-cum-filled sex scenes
-Good amount of angst
-A hero who groveled hard and a heroine who made him weeerk it!
-A sweet epilogue with HEA
Totally enjoyed it!

Wow! A short story that packs a wallop!

I fell in love with a King! Max is wonderful and sexy and powerful and very smart...

I fell in love with a Lady! Victoria is wonderful and sexy and smart and powerful!

The two come together in an explosion of passion and love....

My only complaint is the story was too short!

I highly recommend this book ...if you love a passionate, sweet love story that has a happy ever after....Run and get this Book!

GROVEL MAXIMILIAN!!!!!!!!!!

A good and smexy read but King Maximilian really didn't grovel enough in their marriage arrangement after all the heroine, Victoria had done to make his position easier! He claimed he wanted to give her time to lead a normal life before she was his queen... and depending on his advisor for information on her life was not enough!

I did enjoy the V10 (Victoria 10) that Maximilian was sharing with other countries. It was similar to the Vibranium storyline with T'Challa in "Black Panther."

This was surprisingly and delciously good! I wasn't sure if I was going to like it based on the premise. It sounded kind of meh for me for some reason, but I'm so glad fellow goodreadians suggested otherwise.

I was pleasantly surprised with this book.
I didn’t expect to enjoy it has much has I did.
There was kinda of a mystery. And the plot was basically trying to found out who told the press that Victoria is a “horrible bride” for the King.
The writing is very formal but in a way that made the book very unique.
And I love short books that can make a really fun afternoon read.
Definitely reading more of this author in the future.

This is my fave out of all of ‘em. Short but mighty.

The characters were likeable, I easily latched on to them.
The drama wasn’t overwhelming.
The plot was done perfectly.

Victoria’s father, not only he gave Maximilian his fortune but had selected him to be Victoria’s husband.
For twelve years, they never saw each other hence the heroine felt unworthy and set aside. Hero in neck deep ruling the world, heroine doing whatever she’s best at and yet both managed to stay faithful to each other.

Hero secured their kingdom, sought out heroine, courted, proved himself and made her feel good, which was another favourite part of mine.
His focus was mainly on Victoria. For Victoria and only for Victoria.
They only had eyes for each other.
Everyone else was

As mentioned above, the characters were refreshing as Ms Wilde portrayed them as mature people and Victoria was witty and had the spine of steel. Just what I want for my female leads. She was clearly hurting about being ignored but displayed no bitchy harshness so many heroines have these days.
I don’t usually root for heroines but this one deserves a mention.

A wonderful short story that was sexy, romantic, and also quite funny! This second installment is written by Kati Wilde, and is the perfect addition in this Royal Wedding collection! It even mentions Prince Harry in the story; which totally wins me over! LOL! Even though it is a part of a collection; it stands alone...in fact, all four stories that are part of the collection stand alone. The only thing they have in common is that there are King's and Queen's to be in the stories!!!

I recommend this short treats for when you are looking for a light read, with some sex and romance thrown in!! The Royal part is just the icing on the cake if you ask me!!! Next up is the third installment written by the well known Alexa Riley!!!

Short and smutty, but Ms. Wilde has taken the time to build a story and for that, she's moved up the list of my faves. If you like a one-handed read with a bit of heart and brains to go with all the heat, I'd recommend this.

I can never go wrong with KW. Her pen is liquid gold, quality writing with well-thought, original plot and emotions that transcend the pages to touch readers' hearts. And even if this is only a novella, heavily bent on scorching spice, I was amazed by how much she succeeded to pack into it: a royal arranged engagement, insta-romance (which was even addressed as a central, important part in the plot!) on the H's side, deep and angsty romance on the h's side, a scandalously saucy and possessive H with a very dirty mouth and mind 🥵, panty melting moments... And even some political intrigue. Wow!

The book had the potentiality of being epic if it had been novel length, because I just know that KW would have masterfully developped all the angsty emotions and heat and tie them with a perfect bow at the end. As it is, because of the length, the main characters, esp. Victoria, at times gave me whiplash, with her going through a gamut of high emotions within minutes (heartbreakingly insecure, yet brave, forgiving, lusty vixen, again insecure etc). But well, with KW it is easy to just enjoy the moment 😊.

The most outrageously funny quote (Max's POV):
I've fucked my fist so many times since I saw those pictures in her dossier that my palm, my bedsheets, and my shower drain should all be pregnant.

Starting this I never thought I would enjoy this much. First of all the heroine, she was an absolute Gem!
Her ability for love and forgiveness and then prove that her love is a generous thing is what I loved most. Her maturity and they way she did everything for the life with hero was worth mentioning. The emotional scene where she questions hero about his past indifference squeezed my heart. Still I didn’t hate the hero. He wasn’t purposefully indifferent, just his priority was his looted country and people. He was also true to her for 12 years. And once he met her again all bets were off.
I loved the writing style. I enjoyed the small mystery too. Epilogue was sweet.
Recommended.

What a terrible title this book has. Despite that, it’s an okay read. Not a lot of plot, but fairly good characters. Would have benefitted from a hundred more pages of secondary character development and an actual storyline. And the once upon a time infodump beginning was nearly enough to make me dnf before even really starting. But I’ve read worse.

So good!

I knew this is a short story, but all the stuff packed into it is really good! I teared up a little bit during some parts and cheered on the heroine as she waited patiently for her king and then forgave him when it took 12 years for him to come find her.

This is my second book by Katie Wild. I did enjoy the book and thought it was cute.

But seeing the happiness shining from her stunning blue eyes as I met her at her home, then catching her as she leapt into my arms; the sensual longing I sense in her, and the way I want her so much in return… I haven’t felt any of this before.

My favourite in the Kings series. I loved everything about Max & Victoria. This was a strange combination of slowburn and Insta love.... waiting 12 years for her King & then married within a month. Plenty of feels to go with your smut in this one. Easy, fun read.

I enjoyed it but...

She's loved him for 12 years and studied everything about him. He didn't even really pay attention to her until he was ready to marry her. And then, it's instant and reads as lust.

Ya, he says he loves her and thinks she's awesome, but even when she shares how heartbroken it makes her feel that he doesn't really know her, he decides that sexing her up is the way to make her feel better.

It very much felt like the woman did all the emotional labor. So, while I enjoyed the story, I couldn't completely relax.

I did love that he waited for her. He wasn't with another woman after they were betrothed. They were both virgins. He's magically very good at sex tho.

100% safe and sweet

How Kati Wilde can pack a lot of emotion into such a short story is nothing short of incredible. To those who are dying to know, this is completely 100% safe. There are no OMs and OWs. There aren't real villains out to destroy their relationship. It's fast yet it doesn't feel like insta-love. I felt like I was able to get to know the two MCs pretty darn well considering this is a novella. There's nothing about it I didn't love. This is the perfect read for those who don't have the time to read a long book but still need something to get their fix.

I just couldn’t get past a twelve year engagement where they didn’t meet up once. Victoria is 28 in the present day and still waiting around for The king to marry her. I thought she should have told him to take a hike. It was just too unbelievable for me, so was both of them remaining celibate. Victoria had never even been kissed! And as for the king, Max he allowed his staff to talk about Victoria in derogatory terms dictating to him she isn’t right for him. Oh and she wasn’t horrible.
Didn’t like this.

Preface

The title is rather misleading- it should be the kings’s forgotten bride because 12 years of little or no contact is just… ouch.

That is okay though. The heroine is a breath of fresh air and the hero is a duty bound individual. That is until he meets Victoria, then he is bound to her.

He was never with anyone since their engagement, which gave him a million brownie points in my book, and if I had the power, I would give him an award for common decency (which should be an ordinary thing and yet such is the world we live in where i am astounded and so deeply moved by it I want to AWARD people lol 🥲) . So many (like sooooo many) princes or even heros would screw around if put in this situation with unlimited power and no way of the would be bride to stoping them that i want to weep (are they really “heros” or just villains we are forced to endure because someone- very worrisomely- decided it was romantic?).

I was all for it. The bride has to wait? Heck the groom better wait too! I don’t care if owns Neptune. Common decency is HOT.

And so it’s a man who keeps him promises!

There was no insta love. At least I wouldn’t consider it like that. There is an instant attraction; the way it is develop and the rationale behind some of the actions and behaviors that lead to the deepening of the relationship made complete sense. It was humane, making the characters realistic. It was romantic as well.

(PS: the cover is hideous 🥹 it doesn’t do justice to the story. I couldn’t get past it).

RATINGS:

Plot :2.5 📚📚💫 Some + some more.

(The whole rationale behind the betrothal, along with the nuance politic of the country was well thought out.)

World Building(Immersion): 2 🌎🌎 Dipped half my body.

Angst : 3 👹👹👹 Getting slapped.

(I did feel for the heroine at certain points; which speaks highly to the quality put on developing feelings and attachment. I don’t usually put my angst rated this high; especially not in a novella.)

Funniness: 3 🌝🌝🌝 I laughed out loud.

Scariness: ❎ Not scary.

Romance: 3.5 💖💖💖💫 Adorable.

Spice: 3.5 🌶🌶🌶💫 Blushing potential

Her breath shudders and she nods, her cheeks tinged pink. I press her fingers to my mouth, and the new explosion of flashes makes her engagement ring sparkle and gleam.
