Written like a newspaper, this book is great at tying together the cultural, political, and social changes that happened during the most momentous hundred years in history. The unique perspective of seeing things play out in several episodes, both separate and related to events occurring somewhere else in the world, helps the reader to understand the subtleties of cause and effect in history and provides a comprehensive picture of the century. A recommendation

Comprehensive collation of headline news suceeding in a context for our times. Main drawback is tiny fonts which strain the eyes. The editorial bias tows the mainstream line in a very 20th c. BBC way: interesting nonetheless.

We are still in the middle of reading this in our family. It's world history for the 20th century. It's a well written book and it has lots of interesting tid bits of information. It also contains full color pictures that really help you understand some things better. There are a few inapropriate pictures, but generally it's a very useful book.

Dipped in and out of this rather than read from cover to cover. Full of interesting little facts and histories. Nicely written in newspaper style. Whole world news but sometimes, I found it focused heavily on America.
