Lynn Cahoon is the queen of short, in-between novellas to keep fans appetites satiated when it comes to the charming cast in the Tourist Trap Mysteries. In Corned Beed and Casualties, a dead body is found on the beach and Jill needs to find out the truth. As always, the mystery is not what it appears, as least in the novellas, but it's clever and intriguing. I enjoy them, and the St. Patrick's Day theme makes it a fun and easy read any day. I think I read them out of order because this took place at a different time where new info was available in a different book, but I'll fix that and catch up so I'm back in the right place. Oops!

Corned Beef and Casualties by Lynn Cahoon is the third holiday novella in the Tourist Trap series. As always, it was fun to be back in South Cove with Jill, Greg, Aunt Jackie, Amy and Sasha.

This was a quick and easy read. The plot centers around the St. Patrick's Day weekend festival being held in South Cove with a parade and plenty of green drinks. Jill really does try to stay out of this one but her curiosity is too strong. However, she only solves the case by being in the right place at the right time. The plot moved quickly with just a few twists to keep me turning the pages. Ms. Cahoon has left me wondering about the red-haired woman who visits Jill in the shop in the last chapter.

If you like the Tourist Trap Mysteries, don’t miss this novella. It’s always a pleasure to visit the regular characters of the seaside town of South Cove, California and this time, the town is poised for its annual St. Patrick’s Day celebrations when a body is discovered on the beach. Jill Gardner, owner of the local coffee shop/bookstore uses her sleuthing skills to help boyfriend, Greg King solve the mystery behind the murder. A short, quick, clean cozy read that is absorbing. The author includes a cheesecake recipe that sounds yummy!

I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and Kensington Lyrical Underground. Thank you.

It’s St. Patrick’s Day in the small town of South Cove, California. The tourists are having a great time partying. The drinks are flowing and the fireworks are blasting, but one tourist is partying a bit too much and is found murdered.

Jill Gardner, owner of Coffee, Books and More, is shocked to hear of the murder. She had met this tourist only a few hours earlier. Although her cop boyfriend warns against it, Jill can’t help but stick her nose in this investigation. She is determined to find out what happened to this woman.

I always have a great time visiting South Cove and catching up with Jill and her friends. This is one of those “feel good” series that keeps drawing you back for more. It’s number 10 in the series and a novella. I’ve really been enjoying these shorter episodes in this series. It tides me over until the next full length book is released.

Although this is part of a series, I don't think you had to read the previous ones to enjoy this. The mystery is contained in this story and doesn't leave you with a cliffhanger. Of course I think it's always best to read these series from the start so you get to know the characters and watch them grown.

It’s a quick read with an intriguing mystery to figure out. It’s a great way for me to relax for a couple of hours. Corned Beef and Casualties is the perfect book for this time of year.

Rating is somewhere between 3.5 and 4*. A good short story but with a rather quick, abrupt resolution. Yes, it's a short short/novella but with all the investigative build up it could have dished out a more satisfactory ending, imo. It could have used a little editing, as well. It was nice to visit with the gang again, however. I somehow missed book nine and I plan to get back to it.

Corned Beef and Casualties by Lynn Cahoon is the third holiday novella in the Tourist Trap series. If you enjoy the Tourist Trap Mysteries, don’t miss this novella where you get to visit with regulars in South Cove, Jill, Greg, Aunt Jackie, Amy and Sasha. The story centers around the St. Patrick's Day weekend festival being held in South Cove with a parade, plenty of green drinks, good food and fireworks. Unfortunately, as Greg and Jill are relaxing after a busy day a body is discovered on the beach. Jill Gardner, owner of the local coffee shop/bookstore uses her person skills to ask some questions and subtly interrogate some friends of the dead girl. In this book, she only happens to solve the mystery by being in the right place at the right time. This was a short, quick story that was interesting and easy to read. If you have not read any other Tourist Trap stories, you might not enjoy this one as there is not much in the area of character development due to the fact that this is a novella. The author includes a cheesecake recipe that sounds yummy! The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon my request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

I was surprised to find this a novella, it is the third one in a series of holiday stories. The town of South Cove is holding a St Patrick's celebration. Much liquor is being consumed with the rowdy behavior. Jill once a group of five that are inebriated. This party rented bicycles and one is not returned. Later the girl is found dead near the missing bicycle. Greg and Jill worked together to find the killer. I highly recommend this book and series. A recipe is included.

This is a fun, quick easy read. I enjoy returning to South Cove for these holiday novellas. This one is centered around St. Patrick's Day. Once again the town festival doesn't go as planned when a festival goer is found dead on the beach. The mystery wasn't that complicated but these are such quick reads that it works. Also, I'm a bit intrigued by where the author is headed with Jill's character. This is the second novella where she has seen and spoken to someone nobody else has seen.

St. Patrick's Day festivities brought lots of visitors to South Cove. Jill's coffee and book store sold lots. When a young woman who visited the shop turns up dead at the beach, Jill can't resist assisting her boyfriend in the investigation even though he warned her off. This novella presents a quick and fun read for cozy fans or fans of the series. While I read a Christmas novella from the series and enjoyed it, I need to begin the series.

When I was a wee lad, me dad gave me corned beef. He said to me “lad, this here is corned beef.” I were never the same from that day forward.

This book the only thing that reminds me of Ireland.

Easy to read short story that kept my interest from start to finish! I love this series, and I love that this book is set around St. Patrick's Day, one of my favorite holidays. Though not a full-length novel, this story is long enough to develop the plot and include some everyday-life details for protagonist Jill. The mystery isn't too easy to solve, and I didn't guess the culprit until the reveal. Corned Beef and Casualties can easily be read as a stand-alone, but it makes a great companion for the Tourist Trap Mystery series, which I love!

Review:

The characters are well wounded and well developed. Any time I get to spend with Jill and her family and friends is time well spent. Her Aunt Jackie is not the mostly friendliest of people and sometimes she drives me nuts (maybe that was the author’s intention). I really like the other characters and think they add a lot to the story.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and throughout the novella I felt like I was right there in South Cove, California, watching all the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. The mystery was well plotted and moved along at a great pace. There were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider that I was kept guessing the identity of the killer until the reveal.

I would recommend this novella (and series) to anyone who enjoys well crafted cozies. I have read all the books and they just keep getting better.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.

Jill Gardner, owner of Coffee, Books, and More in South Cove, California is swamped by customers during the St. Patrick’s Day Festival. The revelers are extremely rowdy and several shopkeepers need assistance from Jill’s boyfriend, Greg, who is South Cove’s police chief. A girl named Alana walks in to Jill’s shop to order a coffee. That afternoon, Alana is found dead near the beach. Can Jill find the murderer before someone else is found dead?
I loved this cozy mystery. It had all of the elements found in longer mysteries, and nothing seemed rushed. I loved learning about different characters, and the plot kept me on the edge of my seat until the culprit was revealed. I can’t wait to read the next mystery in this series. I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily reviewing it.

This is a nice quick read as it's very short celebrating St. Patrick's Day in South Cove, California. This is book 10 in the Tourist Trap series and the entire gang is here to celebrate. Jill doesn't even find the body but goes a long way helping Greg and his team solve the murder. Lynn Cahoon puts out novellas for some holiday treats and this one is an exceptional story. Might be difficult keeping track of all the characters if you haven't read any previous books but it would still be a good cozy to solve. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is a quick and fun addition to the great Tourist Trap series. It is a novella that goes back in time to a holiday festival, St. Patrick's Day, in South Cove. Jill and the crew are busy serving coffee and desserts as well as selling books during the festival. Other businesses are kept busy with the hordes as well. Her boyfriend and police chief, Greg King, has asked for extra help from nearby Bakerstown PD to take care of the crowds. Green beer and drinks are flowing and the crowds are having a blast but one customer that Jill chatted with briefly and enjoyed talking with is found dead after fireworks on the beach. She tries not to get involved investigating but Jill just can't help it. She starts a timeline that her friend, winery owner and news reporter, Darla helps fill in the blanks as do others around town. Corned Beef and Casualties is a nice way for a quick visit to South Cove, Jill and the gang.
I received a complimentary ARC from Kensington Books through NetGalley. All the opinions are mine only.

CORNED BEEF AND CAUSALTIES is another holiday novella in the Tourist Trap Mystery series by Lynn Cahoon. While I prefer full-length books, I do adore the Tourist Trap Mysteries and the ability to visit South Cove, California even if for a short read. And I’m always drawn to St. Patrick’s Day themed stories... especially since my ancestry is Irish. Protagonist Jill Gardner, owner of Coffee, Books, and More is getting ready for the town’s first ever St. Patrick’s Day event. And what an event it turns out to be with perhaps just a little too much flowing green beer. Ms. Cahoon captures the festival’s shenanigans and celebratory spirit with fun descriptions and events.

When the sweet woman, who Jill felt a close connection to after their brief chance meeting, is found murdered on a deserted beach, she feels the need to get involved. I liked how the author has the townspeople come together to piece together the victim’s last hours on earth to help solve the mystery. Even though it is a novella, I felt the story contained all the necessary elements to make it a delightful read: good characters, a mystery to be solved, clues sprinkled around, and a satisfying conclusion.

Not only is Jill’s shop known for its coffee drinks but also for its sweet treats, especially cheesecakes. Jill’s friend, Sadie, who is the owner of Pies on the Fly, creates the desserts and comes up with a special cheesecake especially for St. Patrick’s Day. She names the cheesecake after the fun visitor who shows up at the end of the book… Gertie might be real or imagined or mystical… either way, the cheesecake inspired by her appearance embraces the epitome of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and the author provides a recipe for it at the back of the book.

Corned Beef and Casualties is the latest novella in Lynn Cahoon’s entertaining Tourist Trap Mystery series. This is a clean and quick read with well-developed and likable characters and a murder to try to solve. There are inconsistencies regarding the characters from previous books, and the reveal seemed rushed, with few details provided.

The town of South Cove, California is holding a St Patrick’s celebration with lots of activities and festive adult beverages to entertain the somewhat rowdy crowd. The body of a young woman is found on the beach after a spectacular fireworks display, and when it’s ruled a homicide, South Cove’s lead detective, Greg King, and Toby Killian try to track down the killer. Jill feels a connection to the victim, newly engaged Alana McDaniel, because she’d been a customer at her shop, Coffee, Books and More, earlier that day. Greg, who is also Jill’s boyfriend, doesn’t like Jill to investigate, but even though she promises not to, she feels compelled to ask questions and prepare a timeline for the activities of Alana and her friends.

Corned Beef and Casualties by Lynn Cahoon is A Tourist Trap Mystery Novella (No. 10). The town of South Cove, California is having a full day of festivities in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Jill Gardner, owner of Coffee, Books and More is looking forward to enjoying dinner and fireworks with her friends after a day of taking care of customers. Alana McDaniel comes into the shop for coffee with a rowdy group of friends who have obviously been overindulging in alcohol as are many of the tourists. Late that night, Detective Greg King is called out to a crime scene. Jill’s customer, Alana has been found dead on the rock cliffs above the beach. Jill immediately goes into investigator mode despite Greg’s pleas to stay out of this case. She checks with local business owners to work out the victim’s timeline and discover who could have harmed Alana. Will Jill solve the crime before the killer flees town?

It is always a pleasure to visit South Cove and check in with the residents who live in this small seaside town. I like the cast of characters with their various eccentricities. Lynn Cahoon has a casual writing style that reminds me of talking with a friend. I thought Corned Beef and Casualties was well-written with a nice steady pace throughout. The mystery is uncomplicated and can easily be solved. However, it is just the right type of mystery for this length of book. Personally, I recommend reading The Tourist Trap Mystery series in order. It is the best way to get to know the characters. I have enjoyed watching Jill settle into South Cove, manage her store, get close friends and fall in love. Corned Beef and Causalities is a quick, easy to read cozy mystery novella that is a delightful distraction from reality.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was another delightful visit with old friends in South Cove, California. All the characters we love were back - as is another murder in the sleepy town.

It's St. Patrick's Day and the town is hosting is big festival but they soon regret it as the crowd that descends on the town in rowdy and their behaviour is questionable.

Jill is horrified to hear that there was a murder on the beach during the fireworks display. Jill feels a connection to the victim because she had been in Coffee, Books and More hours before she was murdered buying coffee. Jill had invited her to come back and have a slice of cheesecake. Who in the group of these friends would have killed her and why.

Then a woman who just visited Jill’s shop is found dead near the shore. The fireworks display on the beach may have already happened, but the real fireworks have just begun . . .

I love spending holidays with the gang at South Cove in Southern California! Of course, there is never a dull moment. South Cove’s St. Patrick’s Day festival is in full swing and the crowd enjoying themselves is massive. The alcohol is following, green is a popular color along with glitter, among most party-goers. Jill happens to strike up a conversation with a girl that comes into the coffee shop and learns just a little bit about her.

This is such a delightful novella that’s not short on the enjoyment factor. Jill always feels her co-workers and friends are like family. That’s how I’ve come to know them as well. When the girl that Jill met, ends up dead on the beach, Jill feels the need to investigate. I loved this short, quick read, plus trying to figure out who the killer was. I must admit, it wasn’t until the end of the book when it was revealed that I knew. I love a challenge!

I received this book through NetGalley for free. This is my honest review.

Corned Beef and Casualties is Book 10 in the Fabulous Tourist Trap Mystery Series. I loved this holiday novella centering around St. Patrick's Day. This is the third Novella in this series and I LOVE ME A GOOD NOVELLA! I enjoyed visiting South Cove again with Jill and her gang.

The plot was well developed for a short read. The story revolves around the St. Patricks Day Weekend festival. The night after the festival a young woman is found dead on the beach.

There were even some twists which is a credit to Ms. Cahoon's writing to being able to provide such a well crafted story in a novella.

I am excited to read the next book in this series and see how Ms. Cahoon explores the story arc of Jill seeing people that no one else does.

Don't miss the yummy cheesecake recipe, I plan on trying that out!

An enjoyable short read. A St. Patrick's day festival is happening in South Cove and with the good comes the bad when a body turns up. Since Jill had waited on the woman earlier she wants to help find answers. This was a fun quick read with enjoyable characters and the added bonus of a yummy sounding recipe in the back. I will continue on with this series.

Corned Beef and Casualties by Lynn Cahoon is the 10th book in A Tourist Trap Mystery series, and a great addition. Jill Gardner is the owner of Coffee, Books, and More and she and the town are busy getting ready for the big St. Patrick's celebration her town is trying out. Jill serves a young lady a mocha, and she feels a connection with her, they both lost their moms while they were young. Later the young women is found murdered. I love this series, and enjoyed this novella too. I highly recommend this book/series to all cozy mystery lovers.  I also recommend that you read them in order to get the most out of the books.

Short but Sweet

I enjoyed this cute little story but that was the rub for me. It was to short and when the murderer was found the story dissolved into a cheesecake recipe.

The audiobook version of this St. Patrick's Day themed novella kept me company on an afternoon walk and it was an enjoyable listen. I'm not familiar with the rest of the series, so I wasn't sure of the significance of some of the relationships between Jill and the other characters, but I was invested in the solving of this specific murder, and I thought the author managed a lot of development in a small amount of space. My two-star rating would probably be closer to a three if I were a regular reader of the series.

I really enjoy this series, and continue to like all of the many characters in this small town. This novella just didn't work quite as well for me as the full-length novels. Everything seemed a bit rushed, without the usual time spent with each of the characters. I'd give this a C, so three stars.

This novella had a strong start with the first St. Patrick's Day celebration in South Cove. All the usual players were present and the visitors were ready and rowdy for adventure. Jill's Coffee, Books and More was very busy as was boyfriend Greg, policing all the crowds. Sadly, the body of a young partier was found dead at the beach at the culmination of the celebration after the fireworks. This had all the markings of a full novel but didn't reach it's promise. While Greg is tied up in his detective duties, Jill goes snooping trying to develop a timeline of the girl's activities for the day. In the end, her efforts weren't a key factor in finding the criminal. this was a 1/2 hour read for me and I'm glad it didn't take more time as I was disappointed in how the mystery was resolved. Better luck next time.
