Finnegan May has had an eventful time in Manhattan since she first moved to New York City. Her unique profession and quirky, bubbly personality endear her to everyone who meets her.
Like a magnet for trouble, Finnegan finds herself embroiled in a string of robberies that has spanned decades, while she tries to rescue a stray golden retriever who dropped a bag of money at her feet.
It is up to Detective Jane McLeary to solve the famous Broadway Cat thefts before Finnegan finds herself knee deep in things yet again.

Case of the Gold Retriever (Unleashed #3) continues MC Finn’s delightful misadventures with dogs and criminals, and her romantic adventures with MC Jane.
A new character joins our group of three friends, and Jane’s BFF Carrie quickly becomes friendly with Jess. The friendships and mutual flirtations between the four friends was very enjoyable.
The mystery plot was duller this time around, though. I kind of missed Finn being kidnapped or otherwise finding herself in mortal danger. I hope that doesn’t make me a bad person ;)
Narrator Claire Buchignani once again gives a 5* performance, and I did enjoy the cute interactions of our MCs as the story focused on the characters, and as Finn becomes more and more comfortable with her sexual identity…but I wish the mystery had been more interesting. All-in-all, “Case of the Gold Retriever” is a solid entry in the series, and I recommend it with a 4* rating.
This is actually the second series book that I read continuously from book 1 to book 3, I mean i was happy after finished the first one than looking forward to second book than the third, though the first series was from different author. I tend to finished the first book of a series than just left it there.
Just like the first and second book, this third one was also entertain, fun to read and kept me smiling as well. I really enjoyed this series. No angst or drama, little romance but cute and sweet (i think), I really like all of the characters in this book. And I’m happy that there was Jessie’s time in this third book as well. I really came to like her and glad she found someone. And Finnegan as always adorable and a magnet for trouble. And I’m glad for her that her relationship with Jane finally move to the next stage.
I really liked this one, I liked that the motivations for the crime had a different source than human greed and really enjoyed the progression of our protagonist, while I would like a bit more from Jane's perspective it was a good amount that left me satisfied. So why one less star then the previous books? Well, I have to say the summary of what happened in the previous books is excellent to the extent that if you are only interested in one random book in the series you could probably start at said random book and not feel lost in the series. So my problem is that we get to know Finnigan's OCD tendencies in the previous books and obviously get reintroduced to them in this book but for some of her tendencies they got repeated a second time in this book which had me thinking that my audiobook somehow had a weird loop from 1-2 hours ago in it where it was previously mentioned. I think this happened 3-4 times throughout the book.
Good little tale - I'm sort of addicted to ES's writing, it's such a unique style that you just have to love it - or don't. So shoot me. Fine. Fine! Yes Fine.
Once again, dog walker Finnegan May stumbles across evidence of a crime. At least this time it isn't a dead body, but instead a bag of money brought to her by a seemingly lost golden retriever. Finn is temporarily arrested (again) because the money came from a famous series of robberies years ago.
This is a nice change of pace from the murder-based plots of the other books, and the "villain" isn't really a villain. An old man is reunited with his beloved dog and Finnegan helps solve a decades old series of heists. Case of the Gold Retriever is cute, quirky, and eminently readable.
Its official I am addicted to this series. Who would have guessed, but cute dog books with their equally sweet owner who solve crimes are addictive. It's amazing that so few people read this series, and I feel like I've found the latest and coolest drug on the book market.
I love all your books.so pleased to find a new one. I love dogs so you can guess at this was great for me. I like the introduction of the new characters they are fun. Love the new dogs Goldie was great. So now we need some new music of the soul books and I will be a happy person .take care of yourself write fast . I have just finished a full reread. Highly recommend
I loved Unleashed:The Case of the Gold Retriever. I love Finnegan May and her Detective Jane. This book is fun and light. I can’t wait for the audio edition.

Can't lie, I'm enjoying the cute banter between Jane and Fin and glad they are finally consummated their relationship! Love that her old BFF and her new BFF are together and for the looks of it going to be more then just casual partners. I like the adventures she that find their way to her and LOVE her empathy for all with the moral compass that is truly inspiring (which more of us had it) It's not always easy to do the right thing. Making my way through the series as I really want to get to where the current 10th edition of this series starts.
Audiobook fans are treated to another wonderful installment of the Unleashed series narrated by the splendid Claire Buchignan and written by talented Erik Schubach. Finnegan Temperance May, dog walker extraordinaire of Manhattan, finds herself involved in yet another mystery. Finn responds to a 'Broken Leash' alert for a loose and running chihuahua who she intercepts trying to make her way to Central Park. After handing the dog off to her walker, she encounters an older Golden Retriever that appears friendly enough towards her and her Bordie Collie Calvin. He seems reluctant to follow her home. Before she and Calvin could exit the park, the golden returns to hand her a black plastic bag full of cash. She turns the cash in at the police station and she is in the soup yet again as serial numbers confirm it was money reported stolen in a robbery eight years earlier that was the last job from a series of unsolved thefts dubbed the Broadway Cat burglaries. The police plan to comb Central Park in search of any other stolen property. Finn is understandably concerned about the golden retriever who will be captured by an animal control worker and taken to the municipal dog pound. It is her hope that the dog can be sent to Central Park Tails, the dog rescue shelter Finn funded with money she was awarded as Calvin's caregiver. As it happens the golden retriever belongs to the now elderly man responsible for the Broadway Cat burglaries. He was hospitalized for a time, which made it possible for the dog to get loose. Being used to bury the stolen money, the dog went for what he remembered possibly as a payment for Finn's treats as he was unkempt and definitely hungry. The burglar tells Finn a story about why he engaged in the thefts and why the stolen goods were buried unused. Because of several mitigating factors, the elderly man is given probation and community service working at Finn's Central Park Tails dog rescue shelter. There is character development throughout the book as well as the series among the primary and secondary players. Finn grows more comfortable with her sexuality, in the form of her interest in Detective Jane McLeary. Her relationship with her cop roommate continues to grow with the women confessing their love for each other at various times in the story. Finn reconnects with a childhood girlfriend who grows into a relationship with Jane's ex Jessie. Finn's lawyer cousin starts to date her ex-boyfriend Raphael in book 2 and they are doing well. Finn's brother and sister-in-law move to Manhattan in book 1 and are expecting a baby girl. In this previously mentioned manner, the writer builds the Unleashed world Finn and the others share in the foreground of Manhattan, New York City. That such an optimistic, charming personality as Finn can blossom in the Big Apple is delightful as we are given a bright spot in a city known for harsh reality. The rate at which the writer introduces key elements in the book is perfect and the distribution of varying types of elements in the narrative is optimal. Both result in a narrative that is exciting from start to finish, serving to keep readers fully engaged and craving more.
There is humor throughout. Fin continues to walk into situations that have her in handcuffs at times, but since she is dating sexy detective Jane, who is also her roommate, she is out of the cuffs and helping to solve the mysteries. Fin 's OCD adds to the humor along with the bantering with her friends. The author has Fin talking to the reader during her OCD ramblings which makes you chuckle. Jane's ex Jess has become part of their little family. A best friend from the past shows up to surprise Fin at one of their weekly family dinners at her mom's. I love these characters and Fin's good heart. GREAT writing Erik!!
Sooo much cute my head will explode. I have found this series fun and super cute. This book had no violence like the first two and the crime's reason was sad enough to bring a tear to the eye. The performance on Audible was once again very well done was fun to listen to. The narration just oozes perky I threw in a perky just because I have used cute so much in this review. I look forward to the next diabetes inducing story as my heart exploded with puppies and rainbows at the end of this one.
4 stars. Another fun installment but it was light on the mystery this time around. It felt more like a day to day/slice of life read and I didn’t mind at all. Finnegan and Jane’s relationship has grown a lot and I find them to be super cute together. However, there’s been so much build up to them having sex for the first time and they finally do in this but it’s off page. Not to be a pervert but booooo! I wanted to see it but whatever. This series is just so much fun and quick reads and I’m thoroughly enjoying them.
