Echo of Glory: An Irish Legends Romance

Where Bantry Bay in Ireland meets the wild Atlantic, three lost souls stumble together united by their inability to forgive themselves. A heart-pounding and magical tapestry of romance, history, legend, and complex themes of inequality that resonated as deeply centuries ago as they do today. Perfect for fans of Susanna Kearsley, Nora Roberts, Mary Stewart, Maeve Binchy, and Susan Wiggs.

After a disastrous relationship with her boss, Meg Cameron leaves her job with two bad options. Stay silent? Or speak up and ruin her career? A trip to an archeological dig gives her time to reflect on historical imbalances of power, but history refuses to stay quietly in the bloody past of Ireland's beautiful Beara Peninsula and the O'Sullivan massacre.

Niall Sullivan has spent years chasing the truth of what happened to his family in 1602. But he never expected to have to bring his newly orphaned nephew, Adam, with him to excavate on Dursey Island--without internet or television or even reliable cell phone coverage. Still, time alone together in the abandoned village could be exactly what the two of them need to build the foundations of a family. Until Meg Cameron comes along.

Meg and her developing relationship with Niall brings out both the best and the worst in Adam. And as danger comes from unexpected sources, they all have choices to make. Life and death choices none of them expected.

Lake of Destiny #1 - This story has it all: romance, intrigue, traditions and excitement. Although this book has 338 pages, the pages just flew by as the story progressed. A well written, intriguing suspense with a surprise revealed at the end. The plot is well thought out and the characters are believable and realistic. Not all is sugar and spice, there are some rotten apples in the bunch. The descriptions are so well done the reader experiences everything and easily visualizes the area the story is set. This is my first book by the author and I will happily read anything else she writes. I received this book through the APX website. 5*

Bell of Eternity #2 - After reading Lake of Destiny, I was hooked on this author and had to read more of her books. I contacted the author to review anything she had available. This is a well written, intriguing romance with interesting background material to make the story flow along, while being a substantial read. The interesting characters draw the reader into the story with their actions, reactions and believable dialog. The plot has a twist and turn, also, keeping the reader immersed in the story, along with the author's gift for descriptions. I've always loved books about the Cornwall area, fiction and nonfiction, and this book is among the best of them. It was interesting to learn of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and the history behind the volunteers. 5*

Magic of Winter #3 - Another well written, intriguing romance set the Cornwall area with our favorite and not so favorite characters. A second chance at love fraught with problems, both with the romance and a dying father. The characters are well thought out with realistic dialog and a willingness to communicate. The descriptions by the author are vivid and the plot is interesting and both help keep the reader immersed in the pages. I've read all three books and while this one isn't my favorite (it is good), all three were well done and the author is an interesting storyteller. Reading all three in order just makes a continuing story, but they can be read in any order, but why? 5*

Echo of Glory #4 - This story fits well into the series. Complete with history, romance and intrigue. Well written, lovable characters with realistic dialog and a storyline that holds the reader's attention until the end. Ms. Boone does a great job with her vivid descriptions and the history of the people and times are always an added bonus that strengthens and adds substance to the story.

This was one of the best books I have read in recent months. The mystery of the book is woven around the fortuitous meeting of Niall Sullivan and Meg Cameron. Niall is the head of the dig at Dursey Island in Ireland's County Cork. He is a descendant of some of the participants and a local. The point of the dig is to find out what truly happened during the much talked about massacre of the locals of the island. He is also the newly appointed guardian of his nephew Adam, whose mother, Niall's sister Siobhan, was killed in a car accident on her way to join Niall at the dig. Fortunately, Adam got a broken arm but was otherwise unhurt.

Meg is a TV star, the head of a NY morning show that is watched by everyone. Her mother volunteered for the dig but didn't want to go alone. Since Meg was having some problems at work with her producer who also happens to be her current partner, or so she thought, she decides to take a sabbatical to review her job and relationship. In a moment of weakness, she agrees to accompany her mother to Ireland.

When Niall and Meg meet, Adam has pushed Meg out of his way and caused her to be injured and needing stitches. During the subsequent days and weeks, sherealizes that both Adam and Niall need help to deal with the death of Siobhan and everything her death brought with it. She wants to help them and becomes involved in their lives.

Meanwhile, Niall is having some problems with the staff at the dig. He has some very dedicated staff in Gemma, Liam and James. The fourth member of the staff, Kieran, is there for his father and his political ties. And because of that he is off following his own investigations and not doing his job at the site. He is also causing extreme problems with the staff as they fight about what they will eventually find on the dig.

How everything is resolved and the truth is found, at least to some extent, is what makes this book great. And the relationship between Meg and Niall grows as she endeavors to help both him and his nephew and to sort out her own relationship with her mother as well.

A thrilling story and a troubled romance, not to mention the many challenges faced by all the participants, makes this a worthy story and a good read. The book was gifted to me by the author but this review is all mine. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

🌊Drama and 😱danger swirl around an archeological dig; can💕 romance bloom nevertheless?

👍👍4.5 stars
A really great mix of 💜romance with suspense, and a bit of an Irish history lesson thrown in, I thought it started slow but built momentum and the last one third or so was really a drama I did not want to put down.

I know very little about Irish history, so I learned a bit, but some of it went right over my head, probably because, unlike Scotland, I have never been that interested in Irish history. But author Martina Boone simply uses Ireland's bloody history as a backdrop for two angstful family dramas related to heroine Meg's relationship with her newly-divorced mother and hero Niall's efforts to deal with a tragic family death and his bitter and lost teenage nephew Adam. Heavy conflict between personalities at the dig that Niall supervises adds more tension and some mystery. I thought all the elements worked well together and built a complex backdrop for the budding romance between Meg and Niall.

The novel is well-written with some very well-drawn descriptions of the wild coastal locations, local personalities and other secondary characters that made this remote area of the Atlantic Coast of Ireland come alive. The romance is clean; the conflict is sometimes violent but not graphic; and though there's a good share of tragedy and emotional soul searching, the story ends in a satisfyingly upbeat note with no cliffhangers.:-)

I read a complimentary copy of the book provided by the author; this is my voluntary and honest review.

Lake of Destiny Ana’s sister Meg and mother Alisa escape to Ireland to volunteer at an archeological dig. Meg is pressured by her boss, whom she was in a relationship with to leave her morning news job after she discovers he is cheating on her. Her mother is going through a divorce and wants to escape and relive her past where she met Meg’s father. Dr. Niall Sullivan finds himself dealing with volatile tempers at the dig site and the sudden loss of his sister Siobhan and guardianship of her angry teenage son Adam. There is an immediate connection between Meg and Niall when they meet. Alisa sees this and thinks that Niall is not the best choice for Meg and tries to warn her against him. We see another side to Alisa in this book. She is still selfish, but she reveals more about why she made the choices she did when she was young and forced Ana and Meg’s father to marry her even though he was not her destiny. There are several moments of drama and suspense with Adam lashing out in pain against the loss of his mother and Kieran using his political connections to try to force the evacuation team to do his bidding. This is a highly descriptive book. There was a lot dark history with revenge, torture, enslavement, massacres, and Vikings raids in Ireland. But there is also a lot of beauty in the land and fellowship through food and song.

Echos of Glory by Martina Boone (5 stars)

A wonderful story about relationships and how we interact with those we love, both in healthy and unhealthy ways.

The setting is an archaeological dig on an island off Ireland. Met, who has just gone through a career-ending relationship disaster and the recent divorce of her parents, arrives with her mother, Ailsa, to be volunteers at the dig site. Niall, the head archaeologist and in charge of the dig, has just lost his sister in a car accident and is now caring for his emotionally damaged nephew, Adam.

The characters have depth and the writing seamlessly incorporates their past stories, which unroll as we read, with their present actions and decisions. There's also some great, although tragic, Irish history included.

Martina Boone is a truly talented writer and some of the truths Meg discovers are truly profound and beautifully written.

Meg and Niall are believable characters. Both are damaged people who are compassionate, because of their past painful experiences. They, like all of us, sometimes second-guess their own actions in trying to help those around them. Very likeable characters.

Clean with a few really good kisses interspersed throughout. But so much more than a simple romance. So much more complex to fall under that simple label.

*poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special

Meg Cameron had left America to have an adventure with her mother in Ireland on an archaeological dig as volunteers. What she found was more than any adventure she had imagined. Niall Sullivan was in charge of the dig and he had a good crew, except for Kiaran. This dig had been interrupted by the death of his sister and he had become the sole guardian of his orphaned nephew, Adam. Adam was angry and bitter and grieving and he and Niall were miles apart. But, Meg helped to mend those differences and find a way for them to mend the chasm that had come between them. Meg had chasms in her own life that she needed to mend and her time in Ireland helped her to make some decisions about her future.

This is the fourth of Martina Boone's books that I have read and it did not disappoint. In fact, I stayed up half the night just to finish this one. Her stories are engaging and haunting. They deal with tragedy, loss, betrayal, romance and lots of history. You can actually feel the emotions of the characters you are reading about and to me that is a sign of a good writer.

I highly recommend all of Martina Boone's books to those who want to read a story that is full and rich and worth your time. You won't be disappointed.

I received a Kindle copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I've read every book in this series and although this one wasn't the strongest one for me as far as characters and how I connected to them, I did enjoy this book and here are the reasons:

1) The author's writing style is fluid and easy to read. I could picture the setting and the characters were well drawn.
2) The setting--Ireland is so romantic and rich with history. The author has researched well and weaves Irish culture and history into the story naturally throughout.
3) The family drama and relationships. Mother and daughter, sibling, as well as child and caretaker, are my favorite parts of this novel.
4) The back matter provided on history and setting is an amazing bonus.
5) A realistic ending based on the character growth arcs in the book
6) A surprise ending I didn't see coming.

The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars was because I never felt the romantic connection between Meg and Niall. I did enjoy their strong friendship.

A rich tapestry of a book weaving Irish history and folklore into the present day via the medium of an archaeological dig on Dursey. The author has a vivid way with words and the reader can almost see both the events of the past and the evocative present day Dursey. The characters are dealing with complex emotional issues in their personal lives; Meg with betrayal and lies from two important people in her life and Niall with the shock, guilt and grief of his twin’s abrupt death and his acquisition of a troubled teenaged nephew. The book was a smooth read with the final chapters being totally gripping. There is not a strong romance in this story (too many other things going on) but you can see that the friendship between Niall and Meg could develop that way. I was a bit disappointed that the epilogue did not include Ruben getting his comeuppance.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

From the book blurb: "Where Bantry Bay in Ireland meets the wild Atlantic, three lost souls united by their brokenness begin to heal each other. A magical tapestry of romance, history, legend, family, and the complex roles that strong women have always had to navigate." These words captured my interest as I have always had a fascination with Celtish lands and their histories and myths, particularly Ireland.

Echo of Glory by Martina Boone takes place in magical, mystical Ireland. One of the things Ms. Boone does well is mix history and legend into an enthralling story. Her characters are people you come to care about and would like to know. I very much enjoyed this book and look forward to reading her other books in the Celtic Legends Collection.

I received a review copy of this book at my request but this in no way influenced my enjoyment of the book. This review was given voluntarily and the opinions are my own.

This author definitely knows her Irish lore and this time we get it while at a dig site. When a life altering accident happens it forces changes and emotions he isn't ready for. Along with his personal problems he also has to deal with issues on the dig site. With all of this going on it's amazing he finds a way to meet and fall in love with someone who is dealing with her own life changes but sees the pain and offers the love that is desperately needed in the midst of turmoil.

Great read and like this author is loved for with the details and information provided to blend the past with the present. This author also does a brilliant job of interweaving some mystery and murder which means mayhem.

I was blessed with a free copy of this text, all opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Another hit by Martina Boone. This book takes the reader to an archaeological dig in Ireland. The main characters all interact with the dig in some fashion. The story line successfully drew this reader to the dig site and allowed her to truly experience some of the frustrations encountered on this particular project. The story weaves in historical context, murder, and a bit of romance in a coherent manner.

Two people trying to come to terms with the death of a loved one, must learn to forgive themselves. Meanwhile, the archaeological dig is fraught with dissention and rebellion. Can Niall bring the dig back under control? Will he be able to connect with his nephew and help him to grieve? Meg and Niall are a great couple. The storyline is exciting and full of mystery. I really enjoyed this book.

I always enjoy reading Ms. Boone's work. Her writing if fluid. Her characters filled with layers that can be peeled like an onion, providing tears as onions sometimes do. This book is no different. Reading about Meg and her somewhat strained relationship with her mother, Niall and his definitely strained relationship with his nephew, and watching the relationships develop with many of the characters provides entertainment, heartache, and joy.

Bloody history & a gentle romance in the end

A perfect story. I loved the characters, their painful conflicted relationships, past and present. The difficult bloody history on the island off Ireland added a constant rumble of mystery to the archaeological dig. Amazing. An excellent well-written mystery romance. Wonderful characters to care for. An excellent ending which made great sense. I totally loved this story!! Highly recommended!

Martina Boone seamlessly weaves history, legend, mystery, and romance, with complex themes of inequality-from sexual harassment, to bullying, to long-ago atrocities, to making all the wrong choices for all the right reasons. The rugged beauty of the Irish setting is a perfect backdrop for this book, which features wonderfully nuanced characters. I highly recommend it!

Heart warming, witty, and mystery.

I love all the angles of this novel. The setting in a off-the-beaten-path of so many Irish novels. It keeps you thinking and dreaming of going to places like this in Ireland. Steeped in history and folk lure. I am looking forward to reading more novels from this author.
