With a rebel yell... *she chants in her impersonation of Billy Idol* Rebellion. Oh wait, that's not the title, though it does fit. Wendell (Dell), a lion shifter, has never quite fit the mold of what others *cough cough his parents* expected of him and was always, again by them, looked at as less than his brother, Quentin. Dell never held that against his brother though and still mourns his death every day. Dell may play a little fast and loose with his *ahem attention* but there's more to him than it seems. Since leaving the military, he and his buddies have started working security and our learning their way as they go while adjusting to civilian life. But his world is about to be rocked when a woman arrives and she isn't alone...she has a baby that strongly resembles him.
Anjali is a self-professed workaholic, but one constant in her life has been her best friend, Lourdes, forever, and though they weren't always close and Lourdes tended to veer toward questionable behavior, Anjali still loved her and vice versa. And when Lourdes died unexpectedly and under suspicious circumstances, Anjali took the little girl her friend entrusted her with and went looking for his only remaining relative, his uncle.
When Dell and Anjali first meet, the situation is filled with tension, but something else as well. Despite the bomb she drops on him, Dell is immediately attracted to Anjali and her to him. But, Dell has doubts about his ability to essentially become a single father. Though he's determined to make it happen and give Quinn, his niece, the best life she could have. However, his friends have doubts themselves about his decision to take on such a responsibility.
Anjali lengthens her stay, having a lot of vacation time to use since she never takes time for herself, and helps Dell as he learns how to care for a little girl. As the two begin spending so much time together, their connection continually grows as does their love for Quinn, and their feelings for one another.
But, Anjali has to return home, right? She can't stay and make the family with Dell and Quinn that she yearns to have. When Anjali can no longer prolong her time there, Dell and Quinn return with her so he can begin the necessary paperwork to officially make Quinn his. However, a long-term nuisance to Dell's boss, Silas, is somehow involved in what's happening and it places both Anjali and Quinn in danger. Something Dell refuses to let happen.
Can Dell protect the two girls that are coming to mean everything to him? Can he prove to those closest to him that he can handle fatherhood? Will they support his decision? Can Anjali show Dell how good of a man he is? What does Moira have to do with what's happening? Is a HEA possible between Dell and the woman he and his lion both know is his mate?
One-click now and follow along as Dell makes the necessary adjustments, and does so easily and without hesitation, to be the father Quinn needs and the mate Anjali deserves. I cannot wait for the next story. Chase and Sophie have me so intrigued. I love their characters already.
