Forty Candles - a standalone romantic comedy coming August 8, 2018!

I’ve always done what was expected of me. I married the man that my family thought I was supposed to. I turned a blind eye when his after work activities weren't really for work. What I couldn’t look past anymore was how lonely I’d become.

All it took was one night to change my life.

I filed for a separation.
I moved my teenage daughter and me in with my parents.
Did I mention that my room should be placed in an 80’s museum? Yes, it’s not changed in decades.

Then my life changed again right before my 40th birthday.

Just when I thought things were going to get back to normal, in walks Lenny Ward. He’s the man your parents warn you about. You know the type… A body like a God, smart, oh and the sex… It’s like a 10.0 earthquake off the charts type of connection.
Even though we have chemistry, I have to protect not only my heart but my daughters.

Jules has recently separated from her cheating ex-husband and has found herself having to move back into her parents home with her teenage daughter. As she sits in her old bedroom, nearly 40 years old, with the boys from the NKOTB staring back at her she knows that this can only be a temporary arrangement. She needs those divorce papers signed and she needs to move on into a new beginning.

When Jules gets the opportunity to do some contract work it means closely working with Lenny Ward. He is just the sort of man she steers clear of, he is smart, good looking, successful and very cocky. No doubt he is a complete player and she has had enough heartbreak in her life so far. However, there is an immediate attraction between them.

Lenny offers to help her find a new place to live. He seems to have this strange power over Jules. Whenever he is around her, she manages to lose all common sense and her hormones completely take over. Initially she gives into Lenny's charm but when she really thinks about it, she doesn't want to set herself up for another failed relationship so cutting her losses now is really her only option.

With her ex being a pain in the rear end and her daughter putting pressure on her to put her own happiness first, Jules begins to have doubts about her decision to stay away from Lenny. She knows that she shouldn't be pushing away the only man who makes her feel the way he does. Maybe she judged him before truly giving him a chance o show her just how amazing things could be.

I really enjoyed this story. I just love finding stories about people who have had a bit of life experience a big helping of baggage to go along with it. Hell, haven't we all? On a sad note, I had no idea that this lovely author passed away just after completing this book. I'm so glad that this was published so we could enjoy her final writing piece.

Wow. I wasn’t expecting thatC to be honest I wasn’t sure why I was expecting. I really enjoyed the authors writing, it’s sad to know that she has passed away. I really enjoyed the characters she created. It would be lovely to get a follow up. The writing was good, I think it was a little spotty. But overall I really enjoyed this, it has a good amount of humor and sass, sexy alphaness and a very stubborn main character.

DNF at 61%... I gave this a valiant try, but it was not good. I feel bad speaking ill off the author, because she has recently passed away. The writing style was just not for me, and a lot of it bordered on ridiculous. Bummer, because the premise is a good one.

Forty Candles by A.M. Willard is a fun contemporary romance. When you’re just a few months shy of forty, you don’t want to move back into your parents’ house because you’re in the middle of a very ugly divorce. However, that is exactly the position Jules and her daughter are in.

Jules, our heroine, is a stand up gal. She was able to hang onto her business and reputation, but little else. Her soon-to-be ex-husband is despicable. The struggles of a divorce and parenting a teen, are taxing enough, and when you throw in a new, lusty client, you’ve got a whole lot of trouble! Enter Lenny Ward, who is described as a player…however, I never really got that vibe from the character.

Jules and Lenny’s relationship develops at a nice, realistic pace. I appreciated the differentiation between loneliness, lust and love. Jules’ daughter Sophia is portrayed as a very realistic teen. She is equally adorable and challenging. I appreciated the small town, country club setting with its “everyone knows everything” feel.

#StaySassy wherever you are Annelle Willard! R.I.P.

Annelle, I was waiting to write my review on Forty Candles once others had a chance to read it. Well on this day, June 12, 2018....I decided I needed to write this review now. You know why I picked today to write this review. You also already know my review of Forty Candles because we had this conversation already just 6 days ago. Let me start with my review of Forty Candles...

AM Willard has done it again in Forty Candles. She has brought humor to her newest release that seriously made me laugh out loud. Jules and Lenny’s journey to find love is one that kept me wanting more. AM Willard has always had this way of telling a story that brought the reader right there into the story. With her humor, steamy scenes, and what in the world moments I was there. Her books are filled with so much emotion. I felt like I was standing right there with the characters. One in particular character in the book, David, I wouldn’t have minded if I reached out and slapped him a few times up side the head. I tell you the emotions she brings into her books is real. Good or bad emotions, it’s all there. I am so very grateful to have been able to read Forty Candles by A.M. Willard. Jules and Lenny’s journey will stick with me forever, just like many of your other characters.

Annelle, I am sure where you are...you will continue to write many, many more journeys. I’m just sad, that I will now have to wait to read them. I am just so blessed to have been able to read your last journey with Jules and Lenny before you left. I am so thankful for our book conversations. I will miss you, my friend. Keep writing AM Willard. #StaySassy Annelle ❤️

I was lucky enough to read this beauty, ahead of most. Love the cover and knew from the moment that it was coming out I had to check it out. Just starting out on my 40th year, I really am seeing lots of life situations or moments differently, like what the heck was I thinking before, does every one do that, or just me? I am more open to certain situations that use to drive me bonkers, how i think whatever the heck u want, as long as it is not messing with others and stressing them out. I felt it was a book I could connect with oh so much!! Or least see it through my 40 year old eyes. I think it is an era that so many folks forget or don't include. A lot of folks just jump over that age ... move on the baby boomers and such??! Throughout the book I wish I could write A.M. Willard like I did in the past ...pick her brain so to speak. What a loss, I know that she would love to hear how much I enjoy the book. What thinks made me think? Or more curious?? etc. etc. Such a great read. I think it is only available with iBooks? right??! So many moments where I was like ...wonder? did A.M. have a clue that this would be a big book, one that would mean so much to so many??! I love the beginning ... tissues please. I hope her family & friends know how much we the book world did and do love her. Well said, well written and she will be truly missed. I can and do often get mushy and gushy about life, life moments ... I'll try to keep it level. Check it out and do enjoy A.M. Willard's books ... she rocks! ( ;

I like that the characters were late thirties in age. This was sweet however I thought Lenny touched her inappropriately the first couple of times because they basically had just met. I thought it was a bit forward as she still was dealing with her separation with her husband and had just started working with Lenny.

Otherwise, I loved Sophia and everything HEA.

Forty candles was amazingly written "a new chance for love" story. I loved every single second of it.

At almost forty Jules runs a successful designing company but is in the middle of nasty divorce.
She meets then a ladiesman "Lenny Ward" ...walking sex on stix."
The attraction, how they´re hot for one another, is feelable through the pages.
The problem? Jules´ ex husband and her fear to get her heart broken in thousand pieces.

Lenny can´t get enough of her beauty and can´t fight his feelings anymore, but would he be able to convice Jules about his true feelings and intention? Have they chance at all?

Peeps get this book, you won´t be disappointed.

Jules isn't having the best of luck. She is on the verge of turning forty, she has a teenage daughter that is mad at the world, filed for divorce, and has to move back in with her mom. Let's not forget her mom hasn't changed her 1980’s bedroom. No remodeling, nothing. This is a standalone romantic comedy novel. I enjoyed the novel and the people. The plot and pace were great. This story is also told in dual points of view.

Jules is back home at her mom's with her tail between her legs. Her husband or soon t be ex-husband has been cheating and she turned a blind eye until she no longer could. He is dragging his feet and won't sign the papers. He is fighting her all the way. She has an interview for designs on some models and she needs this contract. She just doesn't expect Lenny Ward to be the one to do it.

Lenny is looking for someone knew since his designer Rose is retiring. He is sulky, aloof, distant, obnoxious, mean at times, and an alpha. He is also darn right sexy.

This story was fun, sexy and flirty. I loved Jules sass and how Lenny is with her. Jules is nothing like her parent and doesn't want the life of the country club and social status her parents do. Though she was raised in it, she wants her daughter to be strong and make her own choices and not be pushed. She is a great mom.

The sexual tension is palpable between these two. This is a comedy but there is a lot of indecisiveness on Jules part. She has a hard time making up her mind. SHe simply put has a hard time putting her feeling or heart on the line, especially with Lenny’s reputation. I really enjoyed this book it was really fun and I was completely drawn in. The author did a great job and I was sad to hear of her passing may she rest in peace.

When I signed up for this tour, I didn't realize that it would be the last book of the late & great A.M. Willard, and boy does that bring me to my knees in sadness. Her work is amazing & highly addictive, and the world lost a very talented author. Forty Candles, simply put, is my very favorite story by her, and I never wanted it to end. It's the story of Jules, an almost 40 year old woman who has been deeply hurt by her divorce to a man who never stopped cheating on her. She ends up moving into her parents house with her 15 year old daughter, due to the douche ex, who made it his lot in life to keep everything they had together away from her, but luckily, her business was her own so he couldn't touch it. She lands a job that definitely helped her, but she also met Lenny, the owner of the company that just offered a new & lucrative contract. He's a mouth watering hot alpha male, who hasn't wanted to settle down for a long time, but there's something about Jules that he can't get out of his head, so he sets out to get her to give them a shot. Their chemistry was off the charts, leading to sexy times that lit the sheets on fire, more than once. But the drama comes when Jules gets scared, so she keeps trying to push him away, which provided a push & pull situation that had me ready to pull my hair out. Luckily, there's a cast of secondaries made up of family & friends, especially a feisty teenage girl, who do their best to set her straight, not to mention, added in some needed humor. Finally, there's a couple of twists that had me dropping some colorful metaphors like my favorite f-bombs to get my heart pounding with emotion. This story was amazingly perfect for me as it ticked off all my boxes, and I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

AM Willard's Forty Candles is a story about finding the happiness you deserve. After spending nearly half her life with a cheater, Jules is determined to change her life for the better. Landing a design job of her dreams for Ward Properties would do just that. Only thing in her way is her attraction to Lenny Ward, the owner.

Willard writes a realistic tale of a woman trying her best to move forward while facing all the struggles that life has to over a recently separated woman. From a jerk of an ex husband and moving back in with her parents at 39, Jules manages to persevere despite her obstacles. Even though she lusts after her new boss, Lenny Ward, Jules stays determined to put her new life first that is until Lenny wins her over.

Willard writes that Lenny is a player, however I didn't really view him that way. Instead, I found her to have morphed him more into a knight in shining armor determined to defend his new employees honor. Willard spent time developing this relationship, which I appreciated. Instead of insta-lust and sex, she spent time explaining both of these characters hangups on love, making them real, relateable and two that you can't help but want together.

Forty Candles is definitely a book that you should pick up and read. Its not your average contemporary romance. For a big fan of new adult/college romance, Willard makes me want to take a chance on something different with Forty Candles. I found it absolutely refreshing to read of someone closer to my age and experiencing real life situations and rising above to be a better mom, partner and business woman.

I have always loved Annelle Willards writing but this one for me was extra special. She always manages to bring her trademark wit mixed with great humour to her books and this one was no different. it was heart-warming, sweet, and filled with red hot passion.

Once you start this book you will be drawn in and hooked. She has given us great characters in Lenny and Jules that you relate to and become invested in. The connection between them from the moment they meet is immense and the sexual tension is simmering away ready to explode.

I loved Jules from the start. Her life has imploded, she caught her husband cheating and has had to move back to her parents with her teenage daughter. Thank god she still has her design business that her ex can't touch, its through that she meets Lenny when he meets with her for a business proposition. That man could charm and swoon the pants off a nun. I loved how he accepted her daughter straight away and the bond between them was so sweet.

Even though the ending was happy it brought some tears to my eyes as I finished it as the realisation that this was the last book from a great author. heaven really did gain an angel too soon.

Thank you for your books, for the hours of joy you gave me RIP Annelle xx

Jules is just few months away from turning 40. She has a teenage daughter. She is in the middle of a divorce. Her ex husband is a douchebag but even thats way too nice for him. He is the biggest cheating manwhore ever. Anywho.....Jules moves back home with her parents with her daughter in tow. She's back in her very 80s room, a room that hasn't been touched, remodeled, nothing.

Jules and Lenny meet when he goes into a meeting in her office. She remembers him from way back when, but he doesn't really remember her. They know of each other because their parents run in the same country club and society as each other, but they never really crossed paths. Lenny is this sexy, hot, non committal guy. But there is something about Jules, that he wants to try. He wants to chase her. But it doesn't always end up that way....

I liked this story alot. Divorce can really have a negative affect on anyone especially if you weren't at fault for your marriage failure. Her insecurity, her questionable/defensive personality is pretty much a result of what her ex husband did to her confidence.

I liked Lenny's persistance, his relationship with Sofia, his alpha personality around her exhusband. Dual POVs, which I love, and the epilogue is just sooooo sweet.

I read this with a heavy heart, knowing that this would be the last book ever by A.M. Willard following her sudden passing. It was a book tinged with sadness as we lost a talent much too soon.

I get bored of reading about twenty of thirty somethings as they seem less relevant as I get older. So as I approach forty, it is refreshing to read about characters I can relate to and have a second chance of love.

Jules is in the process of divorcing her pompous ass of a husband, who has forced her and their daughter out of the family home and back in with her parents. Not ideal - especially as Jules' bedroom is stuck in the 1980's. Jules has worked hard on building her design business and potentially could take it to the next level if she wins the contract to work with Lenny's property development company.

Lenny had no intention of working with her before they met but is intrigued by her. She is determined to keep it professional but he is determined to experience her.

Secrets are revealed along the way that connect Lenny and Jules even more. When Jules can't resist anymore the heat and the intensity between them is off the charts. This was a feel good read that made me feel hopeful.

Heartwarming, sweet, and giggle inducing Forty Candles checked all the boxes for everything I love! I love it when a book is plain fun to read. You know when you pick up a book and you’re glued to the pages and the writing is just so wonderfully that you’re so immersed in the characters and it truly feels like you’re there? That’s this book. I was so deep into Lenny and Jules story time lost all meaning until I finished reading.
A.M. Willard so brilliantly wrote this where this romantic comedy is right up front, but a deeper emotional connection is still there making Lenny and Jules incredible easy to feel connected to while you’re reading. Jules especially was one that I loved. She was so relatable on so many levels to me. As a mom, as a woman creeping ever closer to forty, she felt like someone who could be a friend while at the same time she kept me smiling.
Lenny was nearly just as great. His confirmed bachelor past not taking away from the fact he truly was a sweet man. He had me swooning more than once and then melted my heart with his genuine love of not just Jules, but also her daughter.

When you are on the verge of turning 40 you do not want your life to fall apart and have to move back in with your parents but that is what Jules Aldridge finds herself doing. Her cheating husband David has not only humiliated her but also locked down their divorce and is battling her on everything. The only thing Jules has is her teenage daughter and her business that she managed to keep David's grubby hands off of.

Lenny is pushing 40 himself and totally dependent on Rose to keep things at his business running properly. Rose is retiring and Lenny is faced with replacing her quickly. He meets with Jules, whom he knows of but not really personally but he is immediately taken with her. Lenny has no intention of falling in love or settling down but the stars line up and Lenny is pulled to not only Jules but also her daughter and he wants to protect them and make them his.

This is a sweet story of second chances for both these characters and of allowing yourself to finally be happy. I received an early copy to read and review. I really enjoyed it.

This was bittersweet to read because it's A.M. Williard's last book. Learning of her passing then her friends and family rallied together to let her last work into the world for us to enjoy brings tears to my eyes. I'm so thankful they helped get this book published because it's such a good story. I laughed a lot, but the one thing I kept thinking about while reading was hope. Keep on fighting and persevering because there is always hope. Jules' life has been turned upside down nearing the age forty she never expected to be where she is now, but she grabs a hold of her new beginning with providing for her daughter has her drive. I just loved Lenny. He's a playboy, but once learn his past you understand why he lives his life he does. One of my favorite things about this book is the way Lenny wants to be a better man for Jules. She brings out the true man deep in him that he hardly shows the world. I would so recommend this book because you have the laughs and the steam, but after finishing this it makes you feel good.

This book is bittersweet, as it is the last book written by one of my favorite authors! I almost didn't want to finish it because never reading her words again saddens me, a true author and I absolutely loved each and every one of her books. So with that here goes....
Follow the story of Jules, newly single mom to her daughter Sophia, as she moves back to her parent's home to start over. Thank god she still has her design business. That's how she meets Lenny Ward, who's looking for a new designer and if she lands this job her and Sophia will be home free. What she doesn't anticipate is falling for the hot Lenny!
This book was so well written by A.M. Willard as her farewell book, unbeknownst to her, her words will forever live on in this story, as I absolutely loved it. Please grab this one and enjoy it. 5 heavenly angels for this one....
A.M. Thank you for your books, I have enjoyed your stories more than you will ever know. Rest easy, you are very much missed. R.I.P. <3

The last book written by AM Willard before her untimely passing, Forty Candles is a delightful romance between single mom Jules and one of her clients, Lenny.

In the midst of a messy divorce, Jules is reluctant to act on her attraction to Lenny. I love that there is a distant childhood connection between Jules and Lenny; that definitely added to the relationship they both have with Jules' ex-husband. As much as she pushes Lenny away, he refuses to give up because for the first time since his ex-fiancee, he has found a woman worth fighting for. The relationship he builds with her teenage daughter, Sophia, is a big part of their story as well. It's not something that was alluded to; the reader gets to see them build their own connection.

It's a long and twisted journey for both of these characters, but their broken pasts is what brings them to a solid future together! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

When Jules pictured her life at 40 it definitely wasn’t this. She is in the middle of contentious divorce from her cheating husband, she is back living with her mother and raising her teenage daughter. The only light at the end of the tunnel is her business and unless she wants to live at home forever she needs it to be a success.

With his designer retiring Lenny needs a new designer and fast. He had ignored her daily warnings that she would be leaving soon but now he has no choice. He has no interest in love or relationships but there is something about Jules that he is drawn to.

Fun and flirty Jules is battling both the insecurities from her divorce and her reluctance to trust again. Lenny has a reputation as a bachelor, but it was more a matter of meeting the right person as when it came to Jules he was all in.

Took My Breath Away

What can I say but this book was so touching, not just because it was A. M. Willard’s last book before her untimely passing, but this book was just perfection. There was heartache and heartbreak when Jules finds her husband having a sexual encounter with his assistant in their home and files for separation from him. Jules and her 15 year old daughter, Sophia move in with Jules’ parents and she sets out on a new partnership with her design company, one sexy hunk of a businessman, Lenny. Little did she know that the partnership would lead to the best decision of her life both professionally and personally. I loved, loved, loved the main characters and the supporting ones that rounded out the story. I laughed, I cried as Jules and Lenny worked to give love another go of it in their lives.

This is the first book I have read by this author, its bittersweet as it is also the last book of hers written.

This is a great read. I loved the characters. Jules is a great character. She is strong, a great mom and business women who was treated like dirt by her soon to be ex husband. She struggles with things but she is a classy lady who deserves to be happy.

Lenny is awesome. I loved him. He knows what he wants and he is ready to go after it not matter what it takes.

Will Jules give herself and Lenny a shot at a relationship or will she keep pushing him away because of the shit her ex put her through? Will Jules daughter and friends help get these two together or will they finally have to concede that Jules isn't going to listen to their advice?
I recommend this story to all romance readers.

It's unfortunate that I learned of this author with her passing and the chance to review this her last book. It is a great read and the characters are ones that will steal your heart and fill it with good feels. The struggle is real for her. Trying to make sure she doesn't find herself back in the mess she just got out of, she is determined to make it on her own not her partners. Sofie is a doll and the kind of teen we all wish we had. He just got knocked off his game the first minute he saw her and shortly thereafter hung up his man whore ways, finding himself invested in their happiness. It's a wonderful read full of passionate scenes and battling fears. It is my first read by this author and I will most definitely be reading more.

WOW!!
This book had me hooked from the beginning to the end. It had me in stitches at some parts as the characters chatted as they did and holy hell...Mr Ward....Yep...kinda got me hooked onto him too, he was different than you think and you couldnt help but sigh. I really enjoyed this story. Can there be a happy ending after a separation??..Well read it for yourself to find out.
I loved the fact that Lenny took Jules's daughter into consideration, including her in things and really endeared himself to me. But can Jules put herself first??? Can she put her past behind her and really accept her feelings. I ejoyed the storyline and loved how it ended. Such a great read.

A wonderful love story

I'll admit that this is the first book I've read by A.M. and I am so glad that I was referred to read this last book written by her.
The story tugged at my heart strings, made me laugh and cry.
The character Lenny captured my heart in the beginning even though he was referred to as a player.
And his true mate in Jules is a journey to obtain their happy ending.
I will definitely be reading more of A.M.'s books.
I would also like to thank the family for publishing this book after their great loss and hold them in my thoughts and prayers.
I borrowed this book through Kindle Unlimited.

Jules is living back at her parents house after finding her husband cheating. Now separated with a teenage daughter and living basically in the 80’s twilight zone. Jules is ready to get her life back but a new guy is not included until the one man she used to have a crush on hires her. Lenny is all alpha ladies man and when Jules is near him she’s a melting puddle. But Jules is afraid to put everything out there again. I laughed many times and swooned at Lenny definitely a great book! RIP A.M. Willard I’ll miss your words! 5/5 stars
