USA Today Bestselling author Angela Pepper lives with her family in the rainy Pacific Northwest, surrounded by spoiled kitties, deer, raccoons, and the biggest woodpeckers you've ever seen.
Interview with a Ghost Restless Spirits Cozy Ghost Mysteries, Book 1 By: Angela Pepper Narrated by: Marie Hoffman This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. This is a great ghost haunting book. A writer is murdered and hangs around our gals house, she is the only one that sees her. She is the one that found him also. She had an appt. to interview him when she found him. There are all kinds of crazy things happen in the book. Crazy as in funny as long as I didn't have to go through them, lol. It is a good clean and fun book and I enjoyed it. I like ghost stories and this one was not scary and it would be just right for those that want to read a mystery with a ghost! Good ending. Very touching story. I had never read this author's books before but I am hooked now. She has a way of making the characters seem real and have a lot of heart. Even those that alive anymore! The narrator was just great! Smooth, good voices, kept emotions up or down as needed. Great job!
Interview with a Ghost in Arizona: Ghost Mysteries of the Southwest 2
In A Nutshell: Piper Chen is an Asian girl of means and a liar. Piper a fan of the author George Morrison is in contact with his ghost after she discovers his dead body. And so George gives Piper clues to his murderer. The plot is a good idea that develops into an underwhelming story.
The Plot: The protagonist is surprised by her ability to see a ghost and then with his help sets about to solve his murder.
The Protagonist: Piper is young, wealthy, shiftless and a liar.
The book has the features of a cosy paranormal mystery. A 'fun' protagonist, a dog, a dead body and its ghost and grumpy police. But it's not a comfort book if you stress while reading it. I continued with the story though curiosity to see how it would end.
The main character is not attractive and a liar. Piper approached by a journalist pretends she cannot speak English. Otis rescues Piper from the relentless journo, but Piper continues the pretence of not speaking English with Otis. Even on their date! Piper is also petty and jealous, and I cannot remember reading that she walked her dog.
The stereotyping was annoying; Piper and her small feet and Asians looking young. The author undermines Piper the lead character by having the redheaded journo outshine Piper. Also, the cosy theme develops into the uncomfortable area of Paedophilic behaviour. The book lost its way and became confusing and unduly complicated.
An appealing idea, but I found that the book fell short because of stereotypes, unpleasant characters and being unnecessarily complicated.

A prominent example of the genre.
Interview with a Ghost by Angela pepper is the a book in the Restless Spirits Cozy Ghost Series. I am really not sure if it is book 1 or 2 though. On Goodreads it says book 2 on Audible it says book 1 and book 2 of the series. The Audiobook is narrated by Marie Hoffman. Both ladies have done a great job. Angel Pepper has brought a mystery where just about everyone in the book could be a suspect and most of them were actually accused. The book will leave you guessing until the end. Marie Hoffman does an amazing job of bringing this book to life with her narration. Her character voices are great and she kept my attention fully all the way through the book. This is a fun and light story even though it is dealing with a murder. There is no strong language or sex so it is a clean read and good for pretty much anyone. The audiobook is 7 hours and 9 minutes long.
Piper is going to meet her favorite author. Instead of having a wonderful conversation she finds him dead. She does get to meet his mute ghost though. The Ghost of George helps her to solve his murder even though he is mute. Piper just have to figure out the clues she is showing him.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
3.5 stars…I never thought I would be this invested in this novel but I guess once the author knows what they’re doing, they can hook anyone. I really enjoyed all the mystery surrounding Piper’s favorite author’s death, I liked seeing how everything unfolded and even the little splash of romance was cute. The characters were fun.
My only dislike was how long Piper allowed Otis to believe she didn’t speak English. It was just sad especially since Otis was such a sweetheart. Anyway, fun and diverting book.
Content: Clean, moderate language, moderate violence, sexual abuse is briefly mentioned/alluded to.
A fun easy read with the ghost of a popular writer recently murdered and the older teen who can interact with him. The characters certainly are and it's a nice light read. Marie Hoffman gives an interesting chirpy audio performance.
Was so disappointed with this book. I adore the author’s other series, “Wisteria Witches” and I wanted to really like this one, but I just couldn’t get into it. I didn’t care for the characters, which is probably why I didn’t care for the book. Skip this one and grab her other series.
I enjoy a good ghost story as much as the next person, but this was not it. Piper has a lot of emotional problems, but I still can't see her lying as much as she did about speaking English to someone she was drawn to. The ghost pretty much sat around watching tv and occasionally nodding or shaking his head.
Piper Chen finally has the chance to meet her favorite author, George Morrison. All summer they had emailed back and forth and the writer/fan dynamic had, in Piper's opinion, grown into a real friendship albeit George was in his 50's and Piper was in her early 20's. Now, 3 days before Halloween, George would be in Piper's hometown to clean out his mother's house and George's childhood home. She had passed away a few months before. George had told Piper to drop by if she'd like and here she was knocking on his door! When no one came she knocked again. She could hear noises of movement inside and so she tried the knob thinking they didn't hear her knock. She was immediately assaulted from behind and a shadowy figure that smelled vaguely of raw shrimp, ran past her and out into the street. She went inside to check on George and found him sitting in a recliner that she thought had been empty. He didn't say a word to her even though she directed several questions to him. The most she could get out of him was a shrug. She called 9-1-1 to report the intruder and when they appeared, found George's body at the bottom of the basement stairs and arrested her that she finally put it together. She had been talking to George's ghost!
That's how Interview With A Ghost begins. And what follows is a funny tale of how Piper, while searching for a new purpose to her life and with the help of her best friend Winnie, her new boyfriend(?) Otis and various other people who surround the death of George Morrison, not to mention George (in ghostly form) himself help her to solve the murder. Along the way she evolves from an older child to an adult, pushed herself in ways she never has before and goes through many humiliations as she evolves into a much stronger and wiser woman while giving us great entertainment along the way. This is a very funny book that also has some deep personal growth and flashbacks of why Piper is so shy and withdrawn. It is also a great mystery that is handled well, as is the final scene which wraps it all up with justice and humor for all! It is the first I have read from this author but certainly will not be the last. I was gifted this book by the author but this review is all mine and I highly recommend this book.
INTERVIEW WITH A GHOST is the first book in the Restless Spirits series. The books in this series are stand-alones and can be read in any order.
Piper is a “poor little rich girl.” She’s well loved, but has also had good reason to seek the assistance of a therapist. Nope, I’m not telling you why. You need to read/listen and learn why I love this girl and her friends, especially her little dog. She’s not chosen a career; she’s alone in a mansion. She has a good heart; she’s just directionless.
The fun and frustration begins when Piper is able to see the ghost of her favorite author, George Morrison, after finding his body. Ready or not, she’s been commissioned by him to a career in solving his murder!
I liked that this was a clean read. If I had young people still in the house, I wouldn’t be ashamed to listen to this one with them. In fact, it would be fun to get them involved in playing who-done-it games.
There were a lot of laugh out loud moments and the end of the mystery as well as the end of the book were very satisfying. The whole story was entertaining, fun, and easy to read.
I would love to listen to more of this series!
Narration: The narrator is perfect. Marie Hoffman, besides having a wonderful name (very close to my real name) has a beautiful voice that she has obviously worked to deliver an enjoyable performance. Her delivery was never flat or boring and added another layer to the author’s work, as it should.
Note: while I was given this book as a gifted audiobook copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: INTERVIEW WITH A GHOST Series: Restless Spirits #1 Narrator: Marie Hoffman Length: 7 hours 9 minutes Category /Genre: Cozy Mystery, Paranormal Recommended for: 12+ due to murder/violence Listenability: OK for all ears Received from: Angela Pepper (as an Audible gifted copy)
Interview with a Ghost is a delightful first book in the cozy mystery series called the Restless Spirits Cozy Ghost Mysteries by Angela Pepper. This is not the typical cozy mystery series – besides the element of the supernatural, it also has a little more romance than most cozy mysteries. The story centers around Piper, a post-college young adult struggling with what to do with her life. For the moment, she is living in her parents’ mansion while she maintains a fan club website for her favorite author. After striking up an internet friendship with this author, she is invited over to his house for an interview. When she arrives, someone knocks her down running out of the house, she talks with his life-like ghost not realizing he is a ghost, and she discovers the author’s dead body at the bottom of the stairs.
The rest of the story involves Piper investigating the author’s murder with the help of a celebrity crime reporter and the author’s girlfriend. The suspects are numerous, including a very cute chef who thinks Piper does not speak English. Piper and the chef definitely have an instant attraction to each other and you can’t help but root for them to get together. And the mystery kept me guessing until the end. Very clever!
I listened to the Audible version of this story narrated by Marie Hoffman who did a great job. I'd gladly listen to another audiobook narrated by her and in this series. I requested a copy of this audiobook and leave this review voluntarily. I can't wait to see whose ghost appears next to Piper!

Interview with a Ghost is a good continuation in the Restless Spirits Cozy Ghost Mysteries supernatural suspense by Angela Pepper. It is a standalone book. The series is based on the premise that some spirits will manifest themselves as a ghost to help complete unfinished business or to watch over a loved one. This one deals with unfinished business. Piper Chen was to meet her favorite author George Morrison, they live in the same small Arizona town. When she showed up, she was pushed and then the police found her in the house and George dead. Piper is the main suspect. She is adrift with what to do with her life. She currently is a blogger and was going to interview George for her blog.
Things get crazy with the celebration of life, the fan club president, her therapist and the therapist’s family members, and a national newscaster.
I liked this story very much except when Piper led Otis to believe she couldn’t speak English. This dragged on too long & I lost my respect for the main character.
The narrator was slightly on the serious side for such a fun, lighthearted cozy. I had to get used to her almost weary voice. But she spoke in a very clear manner and it was easy to follow. But since Piper is very young, I’d have liked a younger, peppier voice. But it was good, solid.
I liked the story. A little slow at times, for example, the way she kept arguing with herself about telling Otis the truth went on too long, but it was definitely enjoyable. And interesting. And intriguing!
Piper could be more likeable, I would have liked more feelings from her to get to know her better, but it was Winnie who I really didn’t like, at first. But both of them got better as the book proceeded. Especially Piper. I came to care about her and what happened to her.
A pleasant story! And everything came together very nicely. Loved the ending. I really loved the ending! Very satisfying.
3 1/2 stars for giving a bit of something different Asian girl with a author crush and a mystery
Overall 3 out of 5 stars Performance 3 out of 5 stars Story 3 out of 5 stars
This was paranormal cozy mystery that was fun. I found a kindered soul in Piper. I enjoyed the characters from the smallest appearance. It was a fun clean mystery that was cozy and entertaining. The paranormal with the mystery was the lure. The ethnicity of the character was a draw for me. I love reading more that just what the world say is popular. There were depth in this story that felt like they may have reached a bit further than the story presented. I was left wanting more.
Narration was not over the top but I felt that it suited the genre of cozy mystery. The character voices were clear and distinctive.
I had requested and received audiobook version of this book for free from the publisher, in exchange for an unbiased review.
This was a fun read from start to end. A comfortably paced cozy mystery, told in easily digestible language. You wouldn't need to leave your work and pay close attention to every line to follow the story. Just what every cozy mystery book should be.
The characters are adorable, specially Piper. In a way, this is her "coming of age" story too. She and people around her who help her grow and the ghost of her favorite author - they all make up for a fun ride. I would guess young and old, all kind of listeners would love this story.
Marie Hoffman has narrated the story well and made it a pleasant experience.
The characters in this book are a really quirky bunch, combined with a murder mystery it combined for a story that made me laugh out loud.
The mystery was done really well, there were enough possibilities that it wasn't obvious who the murderer was.
Piper was my favorite character because she was an interesting combination of maturity and immaturity. Some of the things she did had me asking 'why?' and at other times she was quite insightful.
A fun easy listen perfect for an evening escape after a long day.
The narration was well done, lost of character in the delivery and the the character voices were also well done.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.
When Piper arrives to conduct her chance of a lifetime interview with her favourite author she's greeted with the last thing she expected; George the author's dead body and a shove from somebody fleeing the author's home. Intrigue, arrests and a little romance ensue in a rollicking murder mystery that kept me listening till the very last chapter. This story is full of great characters, not the least of which are Piper herself, her best friend and her new boyfriend who believes, for a good part of the story, that she's a Mandarin immigrant and speaks no English. Funny, interesting, suspenseful but not in a scary way and thoroughly entertaining, this is the perfect accompaniment for a vacation trip or a stay-at-home weekend.
Imagine yourself invited to visit your absolutely favorite author. When you knock on the door--it opens. But there are no lights on. Whassup, you are asking yourself as you stand in the dark hallway. And then, suddenly, someone rushes past you and shoves you down. And then? And then? A delightful whodunnit with a number of surprising twists even as the suspects are all gathered together (tradition!) . . . in an airplane (not so usual) . . . for the final denouement.
All of this is delightfully performed by narrator Marie Hoffman who perfectly pipes Piper and covers a variety of other voices with panache.
I have to admit I tend to be a little leary of the paranormal mysteries but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It was fun, clean and not too predictable. I have to say being a Boston Terrier owner myself I loved that her dog was a Boston. The mystery side of it kept me guessing, and the romantic comedy scenes were fun and a bit predictable but I wouldn't have it any other way. The paranormal side was entertaining and not too creepy. I felt the narrator did a wonderful job with the voices, acting, and I'm looking forward to listening to her in the next book as well.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Audible:I usually love books by this author.I was rather surprised that I couldn't wait for this one to be over.Teddy was the best character in it. Piper finds the door open then is attacked when she goes to meet her favorite author. She mistakes his ghost for him and wonders why he will not talk to her.She calls the police who find a body and in ultra stereotypical fashion srrest her while hurling racial and other slurs. Marie Hoffman was a fine narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'
Piper was hoping to meet her favorite author, but the way she meets him is not what she had planned. She arrives a day too late to find him dead. Then his ghost 'hires' her to find his killer. This is a cute cozy mystery. That has it's moments of laughter and some 'I could see that coming' in the story. All in all not a bad story. No swearing, or sex, just a nice story. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book from Authorsxp.
This appears to be the book I read in a compilation called "Witches & Ghosts: Supernatural mysteries."
That said, I am not giving a star rating as I feel in the middle it jumped and got really confusing and random. It was a bit hard to follow sometimes because things felt out of place and I don't know if I missed something or if it wasn't included. I didn't love the huge sum up at the end, it felt too simple and quick.
When Piper visits her favourite world famous author, she sees his ghost and doesn't realise he is dead. Although George doesn't talk he is able to help her try to solve his murder. Great idea. Really like Piper Chen and her dog Teddy. The plot is twisty and turny. Kept me guessing till the end. Highly recommend.
I had to work hard to get through this book but I’m glad I did. I was expecting something as fun as The Wisteria Witches books but this one was a little more serious, perhaps because the protagonist is more serious. I did eventually enjoy the book and will read the others in the series. I’m looking forward to getting back to Wisteria though.
Piper has no clue her favorite author friend George has died. He wants her help to solve his murder. Read this enjoyable cozy and try to guess who did it.
Enjoyed the story , Piper was going to visit her fav author , when she found him dead and a suspect in his death , with the help of Nancy a reporter they set out to find out the truth of what happened , but what others do know is that the ghost of the Autor (George) has attached himself to Piper .
I read her "Eli Carter" series and enjoyed them. although very light weight. Then I tried this one and it's just too fluffy. Cozy mysteries aren't my thing. But this might be yours so if this genre is for you, go for it.
This was a fun little murder mystery all about a famous writer's death and a legacy left behind. Lots of quirky characters. I didn't like how long Piper claimed to not speak english to Otis. This was an adorable cozy though. Teddy is great!
Wow, that was bad. Thankfully I bought these 3 books for a dollar, so I don’t feel too bad not continuing with these. This was so bad I almost used one of my three slotted yearly DNF on this shit show of a book.
