Lacy Milligan was sent to prison for the murder of her boss, lawyer Andy Stenson. She spent three years there before Sheriff Travis Walker found evidence that exonerated her. Now he wants Lacy's help in finding Andy's real killer - but that could be difficult, because Lacy has mixed feelings over the fact that Travis got her put in jail in the first place! But that which itches below the navel can't be denied, and she finds herself in Travis's frequent company as they track the real murderer!
Generally enjoyable romantic mystery. Travis seemed like a bit of a dolt to me. Not only did he arrest the wrong person without looking carefully at crucial evidence, he seems to need assistance from the general public as to how he should do his job properly. How the heck did he become sheriff?!? Also, Lacy's conviction rested on being unable to prove that she was at a family member's basketball game. Wouldn't one of her family members cover for her? Did her mum and dad just sit back while Travis mounted a case against her? None of it rang true. Worse, Lacy's parents don't seem to resent Travis one little bit and even encourage his relationship with Lacy! In real life, I think there would be a lot more simmering resentment!
But the pace remains consistent and reasonably suspenseful. It's all a little repetitive and the identity of the killer is entirely predictable (and almost without question - where were the red herrings?) This is the first book in a mini-series, so answers to vital questions remain annoyingly unanswered. But Cindi Myers' last mini-series was quite above average, so I'm hoping this one will similarly keep the ongoing story and mystery moving at a decent clip.
Fantastic start to the new series. Three years earlier, Lacy was convicted of killing her boss due to the investigative work of a young deputy. He later went on to become sheriff, in part because of that investigation. Then Travis found evidence that proved she was innocent and worked just as hard to set her free. While she's grateful to be free, she wants nothing to do with him.
Travis had done his best back then, but now the guilt is eating him up. First, for causing Lacy to be imprisoned to start with, and second, because the real killer is still on the loose. He wants nothing more than to find out who it is and put them away, and he thinks Lacy can help him - if she's willing.
This book caught my attention from the beginning and didn't let go until I'd read the last page. I completely understood Lacy's feelings toward Travis and didn't blame her at all. I loved the fact that Travis understood also, but was still hopeful that she would help. It quickly became obvious that someone did not want Lacy involved and would do anything to stop her. It was intriguing to see the various steps that Lacy and Travis went through, with each one bringing some new piece of information to light. It also seemed that every time they appeared to get closer to something important, there would be another attack, each one more intense than the last. My mind was also caught up in trying to figure out who it was. There were several possibilities, and each one had the motive and/or the capability to carry it out. The final confrontation had me on the edge of my seat, and though it solved the immediate puzzle, there are still some unanswered questions. I can't wait for the rest of the series to see how it all works out.
I also enjoyed the development of the relationship between Lacy and Travis. There were sparks between them from the start, though neither wanted to admit it. Lacy began the story hating Travis for what he had done. She also couldn't help noticing how attractive he was, which didn't make her happy at all. Travis remembered Lacy from when they'd been in school and seeing each other around town. He'd even thought about asking her out until everything went bad. Now he's attracted to her but figures she won't want anything to do with him. When the attacks started happening, Travis became very protective of Lacy. It was also sweet to see how Lacy was protective of him. I loved how, as they worked together and got to know each other, both of them were able to let go of the past and see where the new feelings would take them. The danger they were in acted like a booster rocket to those feelings and their attraction intensified. Even more, I liked how they plan to take their time to explore their feelings and give Lacy a chance to adjust to her new future.
A touching, invigorating, and in the rugged, romantic suspense kind of way a beautiful story of new beginnings, forgiveness, small town living, and daring to open your heart and take that leap into love, while being targeted by a murderer, and the person of your affections put you in a prison for three years for something you didn't do. Twisted? You betcha! The charming world that the author creates with the vivid images and intriguing, charismatic small-town characters is alluring, a place where you would want to spend your time in until you realize that there's most likely a killer living amongst you. This new series has a tangled yet thrilling start, and I am delightfully fascinated about what's to come. Sheriff Travis Walker made one big mistake at the beginning of his career that ended up Lacy Milligan being imprisoned for a murder she didn't commit. Travis has moved the heaven and earth to fix his mistakes, yet forgiveness is something he doesn't expect or ask for. Lacy is a survivor, a strong, amazing woman who has the capacity to start anew, forget, and forgive, for her own sake as much as Travis'. The threats and attacks towards Lacy start as soon as she comes back home, proving that someone in the small town has something to hide, and their ultimate goal is to stop the investigation to the real murderer and eliminate Lacy in the process if necessary. To survive, Lacy is going to need Travis' help and protection, no matter how resentful or how attracted she suddenly feels towards the handsome sheriff. The tender and delicate relationship that develops between Travis and Lacy is as sweet as it is ardent. The attraction is palpable, and connection true and believable. There are issues between them, that they need to work on, and they have those difficult conversations between the intense aggression and assaults towards Lacy and the investigation. I loved the subtle, a bit sarcastic humor that is embedded into the tale, with laugh out loud oneliners when you least expect it to lighten up the gloomy, danger-filled atmosphere. A dreamily luscious, yet gently touching, adorable, and inspiring love story in a midst of fatal, perilous action and suspense. A story that had me both sighing, smiling, and biting my nails, on the edge of my seat in dread and trepidation. I have a feeling this series is going to be a fan-favorite all the way! ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
I love Harlequin Intrigue books but this was the first book I read by Cindi Myers. Saved by the Sheriff was an overall entertaining read. I loved the premise that Sheriff Travis Walker, before he was sheriff, arrested Lacy Milligan for the murder of her boss. She serves three years in prison for it. However, he is also the one that finds out she's innocent and works to get her released. The story starts there with him needing her help to find the real killer. She is obviously reluctant to get involved, but knows she needs to. But someone in town doesn't want her and the sheriff to find out the truth about the murder and the reasons behind it. Lacy becomes a target.
The story ended a bit abruptly, not all of the loose ends tied off. But I'm guessing there is more to come (or I really hope so), since it's a four book series. I'm also a sucker for declarations of love at the end of a book, and this book didn't have that. But I've already picked up book 2 Avalanche of Trouble, and I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next with the characters you meet in this book and hopefully tying up those loose ends.
I snagged this book when it went on sale, and I’m glad I did. It was a fantastic start to a new book series. A few years ago, Lacy was wrongfully convicted of killing her boss. Three year ago, Travis was a new deputy. Over the years he questioned the information that played a huge role in locking Lacy up. He never stopped searching for the truth. He may have locked her up, but a part of him never believed she could have killed her boss. Three years later he is now a sheriff, and he found proof that Lacy is innocent. Now he has to find out who really did kill Lacey’s boss. He was hoping Lacy would find a way to work with him, to uncover the truth. It took a hot minute for Lacy to forgive Travis. I can understand that one. Once she did, a romance started. Someone doesn’t want the truth to be known. Lacy becomes a target. Can the two stay alive long enough to see what the future holds? The action and suspense was excellent. I really enjoyed this book!
“Saved by the Sheriff” starts a new miniseries by Cindi Myers called Eagle Mountain Murder Mystery.
Lacy Milligan is set free from prison, having spent the past three years convicted of murdering her boss, lawyer Andy Stenson. Travis Walker, now Sheriff, found evidence of Lacy’s innocence, after he was the one responsible for sending her away. Now he needs her help in finding the real killer.
“Saved by the Sheriff” is a first-rate whodunit with excellent pacing and sprinkled with a few red herrings. Having a romance between Travis and Lacy balances the story.
Ms. Myers has crafted a story that will have readers anticipating the next installment while trying to solve the Eagle Mountain mystery at the same time.
I enjoyed this intriguing romance. I bought this at the local library book sale and I voluntarily chose to review this story. I've given it a 4.5* rating. While not for the under 18 readers, this contains a lot of violence. Sexual content is pretty mild. This story does pull you in pretty fast and is the first book of this series. There are plenty of bad guys in this series and several may die before the end. There are several good guys too so you'll want to keep rooting for them. I'm on to my next read.
A fast pace romance that will have you on the edge while reading. A Sheriff that wrote a wrong an the Women who wanted to hate him but now loves him will face danger that may get them both killed while looking into the murder that happened three years ago an put an innocent women behind bars for three years.
Every character in this book was obtuse. The sheriff was an idiot most of the time - everyone in town knew all the details of his “investigation “ and personal life. Bad guy was glaringly obvious . The writing was ok - too bad about the story.
Not bad. Since this is part of the Intrigue imprint rather than Romantic Suspense, the romantic aspect wasn't the main focus. This means it is a bit less fleshed out and detailed. I am curious about the sub-plot mystery that appears though the 4 books.
This is the 2nd book I read by Cindi Myers. This book's storyline was okay. I liked the action in this story. I liked Travis's character. I liked Lacy's character. I liked the ending.
Not a novella, but it is short compared to other mysteries I have read. A wrongfully accused woman gets freed from prison, but that just starts her problems.
Twists and turns noted! Jowevet, tge ending leaves me wondering about the missing resort owner Hake & who actually was behind the whole plot to kill the heroine! A follow up???
