Mason
My family was given gifts for helping a group of gypsies. One of them was the ability to know your soulmate instantly. From what I’ve seen, it can be more of a curse, as once you find your mate, you turn into a possessive caveman. I’ve found my soulmate, beaten, battered, and bruised. As I nurse her back to health she clings to my side. My family thinks this is why the bad part of the gypsy gift hasn’t affected me. I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Alexa
I didn’t realize how good I had it until I lost it all. Mason found me when I needed him the most. From the moment I saw him, he has been my knight in shining armor. He takes the time to get to know me, to let me be myself again. Settling into my new life, Mason tells me I’m his soulmate and the only one meant for him. I want to keep living the dream I’ve built with him, but I’ll have to fight my demons eventually and I don’t want to drag him along.

I love the whole premise of this story. The hero's family was cursed by gypsies. They would be able to know their soul mates on site, thus making them act like cavemen. I eat that stuff up.

HERO~
Mason was a very likable hero. He was young but the moment he saw Alexa, he knew. He didnt waiver or think twice. He was there for her 100%. I appreciated that no mention of previous women and no ow drama was in the book!

HEROINE~
Alexa was likable. However, even though she had lived through so much, she was a bit on the childish side with some of her actions. It didn't keep me from liking her though. One thing I really was glad about was the fact that she didn't constantly push him away. They got together and stayed together.

SEXUAL HISTORY~
Alexa was a virgin. I'm assuming Mason was not.

OM/OW DRAMA ~
None

STEAM
More steam than what I recall in previous books in this series which I liked.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS
We for small glimpses of previous couples

SAFETY
Neither with others after meeting

ENDING~
ok epilogue that was only 2.5 years out.

Mason was going about his business when he stumbled upon Alexa beaten and hiding by a dumpster behind his building. Knowing she was his one right away, the Silvermans were gifted with a soulmate if they were lucky enough to find her. Now Mason is helping Alexa get healthy and keeping her safe. He knows Alexa is young and is doing everything in his power to give her time to grow and explore her wings before they take the next step. However, Alexa feels she is ready but when the danger that was surrounding her before Mason found her returns, all bets are off.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. There were times I did think Alexa needed to grow up more but overall I thought this was another great addition in the Caveman series. I liked Mason a lot, he was different then the other men in this series.

3.5 ‘Knight in Shining Armor' Stars

I always anxiously await every release for the Caveman Instinct, and this was no exception, as soon as Mason was announced I've been counting down days until I could be another Silverman in my hands, and here it is, yay!
Mason, book 4, fit perfectly with the rest of the series, and I enjoyed immensely seeing a different reaction to the 'Gipsy Curse' by the female character, which gave us a different dynamic to the couple and the storyline. Alexa didn't resist - because of how much she needed Mason and his family - the attraction, and craved him and his closeness as much as Mason himself. I just wish her personality was more consistent throughout the story, don't get me wrong, the traumatized moments/memories were well described, but most of the times she came through as immature, or even bratty. Yes, she was 17/18, but her immaturity was too present for someone with her background, I felt. Other then that, that ended up giving a NW or steamy YA feel to the story, and again a too numerous moments where Silverman fortune and wealth as feature, Mason sucked me in from the start.
Mason was absolutely fantastic as male character, a bit lost with his different side of the Gift, but he was amazing, caring and oh so sweet to Alexa from the very first look!
Now, can't wait to see which of the Silverman boys will follow next! Maybe Zeck?! <3 <3 <3 <3

“Thank you for being everything I need. Everything I could ever dream of and more. From the moment I met you, you’ve been my light, my hope, my savor, my best friend and lover. You’ll always be my knight in shining armor. You’ve given me a family and unconditional love. I love you, Mason Silverman.”

I was not impressed with this book. I didn't like Alexa. I thought she acted more like a clingy immature girl than a 17 yr. old. She should have been more mature to have survived living on the streets for 3 yrs. And Mason? Where is the OTT caveman like we got with Stephan and Richard. My impression was he was a wuss. Plus I always thought Mason was older than Stephan, but according to this timeline he's younger since this book happens several years after Jade & Stephan. Overall an ok book, but Stephan is still my favorite.

"Mason" is the story of Alexa and Mason.

In this tale, our heroine is an orphan with a tragic past and present, thanks to foster homes and gangs- and lives homeless, in a box. Things change, when one night she's rescued by her "Soulmate Mason", and they both immediately fall in love.
So here we had an OTT sweet love story with very teenager-ish leads-> there is too many love declarations, excitement to bang and have kids- and clinginess. The heroine has a very painful past, hence she attaches to the hero like a parasite- and though he gets a little bit uncomfy due to..well duh..soon due to the curse he loves it too.

I have loved this series since its inception years ago, and did admire the previous books. However, this was very, very cheesy for me.

There was minimal angst, especially from the heroine- but all I wanted to do was cuddle her and give her loads and loads of therapy- because she behaved like a small girl child 90% of the time- and seeing her in a "sexual" light was disconserning (with PTSD).

If you dont mind a diabetic coma with cuddling, nicknames like bear, sweet sex and too much sugar and "I love yous"- this is for you. For me, things just were a little uncomfortable to read.

Extra .5 for the epilogue.

Really wanted to love it, but...

It was boring for most of the book. The beginning was pretty interesting, but when they finally meet and she was at the hospital it got boring starting from there. She seemed a bit clingy to me, though she had reason because of all that happened to her, I felt it was a bit over the top. Some things I felt weren't resolved, like the corrupt cops she saw set the beginning helping the bikers, and what happened to those kidnapped girls?

This book was definitely my least favorite book of the series.

DNF @ 33%.

I want to start by saying that I'm a big fan of this series. That being said, this book was a HUGE disappointment. The h was so immature; she had the personality of a preschooler. She was also incredibly clingy. In addition, the H lacked the caveman instinct that made this series so great. I am really surprised that the author decided to take such a different direction with this book. In my opinion, it didn't work.

It was nice to read about a soulmate who didn’t put up a fight for a change, but other than that I wasn’t impressed.

I read another review that said Alexa acted way to immature considering everything she’s been through and I agree, it didn’t really fit the plot.

It was also quite boring compared to the other books in this series.

why i read this i will never know.
they aren't horrible. but i wish the story and the action in it had more substance then to be filled with sex scenes.
You seen one sex scene in a novel you seen they all you know?
Also there wasnt any main action. I thought she would be kidnapped or something and Mason would save her? Nope.
And, all the Silverman are really the same- i mean there is no real difference between any of the guys.
I did pay 3$ for these, but they should have been on KU.
my favorite Caveman book was book 1. I think that is the best of them.
I also think she has the potential to write a GREAT love story. And it doesnt have to include sex scenes everywhere.
she is self-published, but i hope for her future books she pays good money for a good publisher. okay end of rant.

Love the premise, but...

Love the premise of this series, and I really liked the first book in this series. Mason's story, however, lacked. There is a definite need for more editing. There are parts I had to reread to make sense of the sentence. Wrong word usage and poor grammar were another problem. Additionally, I found the heroine's behavior to be childish at times. There is only so much pouting I can handle before I want to throw up a little in my mouth. I didn't feel the chemistry between the two main characters at all. The story just didn't click for me. I thought the side story of the h being a witness in court mildly interesting, but much of the rest of the story felt choppy and a little disjointed.

Wish fulfillment

There are very few typos or misspelled words, and the grammatical errors don’t detract from comprehension. For that alone I’d give it two stars. But the content itself left a lot to be desired. This read more like the wish fulfillment stories I wrote in middle school than an adult romance novel. There are no real conflicts, no problems to solve, no separation between our happy couple, no kidnappings or mysteries or crimes or anything. Basically the hero finds our heroine hiding from some bad guys after she witnessed a crime, he instantly recognizes her as his soulmate, his family embraces her, and....that’s it. If you like that sort of book, this is a great book for you. I prefer a little more meat in the sandwich.

Loved the first couple caveman books, but now they just seem disjointed. Author brings up a theme and then drops it. What happened to the h's family home and possessions? Crooked cops at start, topic dropped until end when h reveals "oh, I remember". Weird comments by tony the bodyguard. Where were said bodyguards when she went iceskating and heard a bang and guard dog shoved her in a cupboard??? Wait dog shoved her in the cupboard. Does he have opposable thumbs. And the deal with not only a guard dog but 3 puppies, fish, Guinea pigs, cat..... All the while living at someone else's home. Too much stuff going on....

Different but good

Yes this was a little different then the rest of the series but still a good read. I get that Mason wasn't as crazy as the rest of his family. Alexa was traumatized and living on the streets. It also fits because she didn't fight the pull. Do I like the crazy Silvermans better? Yes but I still
loved this book. They all can't be the same or it would get boring. Overall it was a great story to mix up with the rest of the series and can't wait for the next one.

Great but not the greatest...l

The story of mason and Alexa was something I have been looking forward to, but I found it started off great and went slightly downhill from there into a basic duplicate of the other stories, so predictable and a little bit boring...still looking forward to more of these stories with a hope that the next brings with it that something that always makes hazel gowers books my first pick....

I liked the book but it was missing that real caveman behaviors that you found in the previous books. And I have to say Alexa was really immature, I understand she's a seventeen year old but it's semantics she doesn't have a mature book in her body. Have to say can't wait for Cassie's story though, hope she runs again

2.5 stars✨ the reason for this book getting a lower rating than the other books in this series is mainly because I didn't like Alexa, like at all. She just sounded like a 12 year old most of the time and I was rolling my eyes pretty much whenever she spoke.

Great read

The Silverman's are amazing. And their soul am testing are amazing. I love this synopsis. There have been minor editing issues throughout all the books so far. But if you can over look the editing, it's definitely worth your time to read this.

I have been waiting for what feels like forever for this book to be released. I devoured this story in one sitting and was left wanting more. I really like Alexa and Mason. The chemistry between them was instant and it was clear to see. I liked that Alexa didn’t fight the ‘’gift/curse’’ but I kind of wanted to see her fight it a little. I was amused that Alexa seemed to constantly talk about wanting kids. I loved how much she loved kids and she was so good with them. I really liked Mason and Alexa as a couple. They suited one another perfectly. I liked how close Alexa was with Gillian and Zeck. After all Alexa had lost and been through, she deserved to have her happily ever after.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and an enjoyable read. I cannot wait for more from this series.
