This non-fiction book goes through and talks about multiple animals and how they are unique like a clown. The book talks about how lions roar, but that doesn't mean they are hurt, it could mean that they are playing. Meerkats get warm by standing in the sun and they watch for enemies while getting warm. A toucan uses its bill to pick fruit to grab insects. Joey's flip over inside their mother's pouches and giraffes and hippos like to play fight.
Lesson- this book would be excellent for animal classification and deciding how to classify the animals based on what they eat, how they look etc. You can have your students write about each animal and tell something that is special about that animal.
Overall, a short and colorful book. One with lots of pictures and understandable side text for any young reader. National Geographic has always been a favorite of mine and I’m happy to have read this. I miss these types of books from childhood sometimes. Thus, when I find one, it only takes a little bit of time to read. So, enjoy it, the pictures are good, and the learning is always there. Fun little read.
I remember reading this as a child and loving the amazing animal pictures. Instead of a story, this book just explains how amazing and wild animals can look. A great book to encourage children to love animals!
