Aaaahhhhh!
Hubungan Shizu dan Tetsu semakin menggemaskan!!
Waktu Shizu bilang dia suka sama sosok Tetsu yang tersenyum, aku jadi ikut senyum-senyum sendiri ... So glad I borrowed this manga!

I really love the last chapter of this volume and it’s great to see all of the progress that Shizu is making; both with herself and her friendship with Tetsu. I also really liked that we got more background into why Tetsu is so willing to sacrifice his own wants for his family. The fight between Tetsu and his sister: Ryō was a bit painful to watch, considering the meaning behind the fight, but I hope they make up soon.

Today's review is on Wake Up Sleeping Beauty, volume 3 by Megumi Morino. It is 192 pages long and is published by Kodansha Comics. As it is the third volume in the series you need to have read the first two to understand the story. The cover has the two main characters in a romantic embrace. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this manga. The story is told from third-person close of the two main characters moving as the story does. There Be Spoilers ahead.

From the back of the book- The Suffering.
As Shizu begins to venture outside more and more, her days are filled with new experiences. When she shows an interest in going to school, Tetsu and the spirits dwelling within Shizu come up with a foolproof plan to get her there. But when the two teens arrive on campus they bump into Tetsu’s old soccer team. Suddenly his carefully curated life begins to unravel and Shizu may be the only one who can save him.

Review- We get to see more of what's driving Tetsu in this volume. We know that his family is struggling with finances but seeing him but seeing him give up his soccer which was so important to him was very moving. Shizu Wants to see him happy again because she is finally starting to care about the world. So with the help of his soccer team Shizu helps him play one last game with them. This volume is more about character development instead of world development so I really enjoyed it. Tetsu and Shizu are starting to grow closer and that's good for her but it's making Tetsu’s life a little more difficult. This manga is very sad but I'm hopeful that the ending will actually be good because Shizu it's starting to grow beyond what she thought she could be and more importantly what her family thought she could be. I look forward to seeing where she goes in the future volumes.

I give this volume at four out of five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

A contrast to the previous volume, as it focuses more on Tetsu and less supernatural elements. This volume demonstrates how good the writing is imo.

Art: The art is still very pretty. It's expressive and I love how Morino draws Shizu and Tetsu.

Character: The characters are all written well and even the side characters have good personality in this. In a story like this I think it's important to have the two leads both have a defined personality, arcs, etc. This story delivers by giving a very good arc to Tetsu in this. Shizu and her sprits mostly just do what they usually do and take a back seat to him. The side characters aren't one note or bland actually. Ryo- one of Tetsu's sisters actually contributes to his arc, while she doesn't have too much character in this, it is nice to see family play a part in a manga. Usually they're unimportant are just mentioned in passing. Chihiro-Tetsu's soccer team friend is also a good deviation from the best friend character. He didn't feel like those upbeat comedic relief best friends characters you usually see in manga/anime. He also works well with Tetsu's arc.

Story: The story is well written and has some great themes. I applaud the comic for having themes that can apply to real life in a supernatural themed story. However I do think Tetsu's great arc, interupted the main story of Shizu. It doesn't have much to do with her or the supernatural stuff, but it does give Shizu's character some dev that tied well with volume 2. Tetsu's arc did drag on too much as it took up almost all 4 chapters. While I love Tetsu's character, it made this very unique story seem like a standard shoujo manga. I think it should have been condensed. This is why I didn't give it the full 5 stars.

Review of volumes 1-3

A solidly likable series so far that deals with the problem of its primary female character not having much of a personality by making that an explicit plot point and problem: high schooler Tetsu works as a housekeeper at a rich family's house, but has been warned never to interact with their secluded daughter...a warning which is promptly ignored when she interacts with him. But she's an odd one, and it turns out that his presence seems healthy, so the continued contact is encouraged.

A supernatural twist on the idea of multiple personalities, with Shizu being uniquely open to ghostly possession and her ghosts taking turns being "out," on one level this is a cute story about a girl and a boy learning who the other is (and developing crushes, as expected). Shizu's ghosts are all distinct individuals compared to Shizu herself, a waifish recluse so alienated from her concept of self that she doesn't even know her own likes and dislikes. Her contact with Tetsu seems to rekindle her interest in the outside world, while Tetsu himself is intent on helping her discover how to have a personality.

At this point, halfway through, it's barely more than gentle. There are definite signs that something deeper might be going on, and the fact that Tetsu is paid to spend time with Shizu on top of/instead of the housekeeping now, a fact she (and presumably her ghosts) are ignorant of, will undoubtedly be a big climactic point of conflict I'm not particularly looking forward to. But it holds my interest, at least.

I pretty much read dive into this series blindly, the synopsis is interesting but I didn’t expect it to be a lil on heavier side, heartwarming and heart-touching with a lil occult aspect. A lil content warning there’s 1-2 scene of physical abuse and some emotional abuse (neglect) in the series. I like how the relatable the ml is, he’s scared of occult stuff and reacted like how most people would but he try his best to handle it better and understand how others feels. He’s so caring, reliable, and emotionally strong, he’s expressive and empathetic but he’s most definitely not a pushover. I kinda sad for the fl because of her condition she’s being neglected by her own parents, think of her like Rapunzel, sure they provided her with basic necessity but none emotionally. I’m just glad she has kind souls that surrounded and try to protect, help, and encourage her to learn how to be herself. I’m glad to see the growth of not only the ml & fl but also the supporting characters. I thoroughly enjoy this series, it warms my heart.
Just in case, prepare some tissue when you read this book, especially on the later volume.

This volume attempts to explain why Tetsu quit the soccer team, although I’m not sure if it *entirely* succeeds. I guess, ultimately, quitting wasn’t really about money or having the time to care for his siblings/family, but rather connected to his own guilt about his mother, and those other things were his justifications to try to avoid the reality of his feelings... I did like how his relationship with Shizu, etc, developed here, although again there’s some confusing elements or things that haven’t gotten developed (like what the deal is with Shizu’s dad all but threatening her mom about keeping her from going out) that popped up in the previous volume... Still, this is interesting and different enough I want to see it through.

I looooveeee the art. It’s so beautiful. Makin lama makin ribet nih ceritanya. Lupa deh disini Bapaknya Shizu udah muncul apa belom, kayaknya bakal full review di buku 6 aja hehe.

Tet-channn~ kenapa kamu banyak berkorban gituuu? You are still little kiddooo. 😭

Btw ak suka banget sama si kakekkkk. He’s just an old man who is looking for happiness and want to create happiness for his family and grandchild. He’s the one who realized about Shizu and made a pact with other ghosts to keep Shizu save. :’)

I loved learning even more about Shizu's back story and motivations for everything he does. It even breaks your heart a little, but I loved that his team and his sister want to show him he isn't forgotten and what he deserves.

I loved that Tetsu and the others want to prove it to him too. The small things Tetsu et all with Shizu do to take care of each other is everything. Needless to say this one was my favorite so far and I cannot wait to continue on.

omg i love the fact that shizu is leaving her home and going outside even more now, like i think she has more control over herself now than the previous chapters. also, less supernatural aspects and centering the story towards tetsu and their relationship growth is what makes the whole story interesting.

Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty Volume 3 gives us a deeper look into Tetsu's character and shows us more development on Shizu's part. I really enjoyed getting more back story on Tetsu as well as seeing Shizu slowly begin to find herself. I look forward to seeing what happens next!

This story just keeps getting better!

For obvious reasons (being inhabited by spirits), the romance is slow building in this story but at the end of this volume, we can see that there is something between the two main characters.

Some manga are best left for binge-reading, and I feel like this one is quite like that. I appreciate the story more without having gaps to wait for new chapters or new volumes to come out.
