Greg

Mercy lives with her father in the gold mines. They haven’t struck it rich yet but keep trying.

Greg lost his parents and became an orphan. He was adopted out by a family that wanted a lot of children. He decides to go off and see if he can make something of his self. The moment he strikes his pick axe in the ground someone shoots at him. Mercy saves him and helps him learn how to mine. Her father takes him under his wing. Greg respects the two. Always treats them with respect. Mercy’s father breaks one rule never call out if you find gold, he yells out and gets shot, Mercy gets a graze from a bullet.
Greg runs to her father and he tells Greg to look after Mercy. Her father dies and they try to hang Greg but the judge throws out the case and forces the two to marry.

Wonderful story. I enjoyed reading this book

A Great Continuation of the Previous Series

I’ve been reading Kathleen Ball novels since I picked up the first one, and recently finished the Oregon Trail Dreamin’ Series. I didn’t realize that this one is a perfect fit to come next. Greg was introduced to us in the previous series and in this one he starts off trying to become a miner. Since his real passion seems to be on the range and not with mining I can only assume he wants to be his own man for a bit, perhaps find some gold and have some money to start his new life with. So how will it all work out. Read the story and find out for yourself. This was a great book and I’m ready to go on to the next as soon as I get a nap.

Greg Settler was from a large and diverse family of adopted orphans and had left Oregon to go off on his own for a while and mine for gold in California.

Mercy and her dad, Hugo, were gold miners working a claim in California when they met Greg. Greg was staking his claim next to theirs when they had to save him from a claim jumper. Mercy and Hugo had just started to show Greg how to go about mining his claim when Greg is accused of murdering Hugo. After the judge ruled him not guilty of murdering Hugo the judge decided, for Mercy's protection, she should marry Greg.

This was a great book and I look forward to reading more of The Settlers series.

Gold Mining for Love

This was my first book by this author. After reading some of the reviews, I wish I’d known it is a spin-off of another series because I believe I would have enjoyed it more. I will go back and try the Oregon Trail series before I continue this one. I found the book a bit slow with a good but simple storyline. I didn’t realize the dangerous and complex life of the miners in the California gold rushes. This book gave insight into their world. The writing is good with just a few editing issues. Overall, I recommend this, but only after reading the other series first.

HE LEFT LOOKING FOR GOLD; FOUND LOVE & MORE!

4 STARS for this Historical Western that is Book 1 of The Settlers. This is a great storyline about the goldfield way of daily life for the miners and those that surrounded them including the drama of anger, greed, murder, death, overall layers of mud & dirt. Lots of action because of the action that was in the fields and how the gold list had taken over some of them. Furthermore, great characters added to the cross over ones from the Oregon Trail Dreaming series, and worth reading.

Good Read

Be prepared for many twists and turns in this one. The characters were well developed, and interesting. However, their ages were a bit troubling. As maturity was required to recognize and solve the various serious potential (and actual) life threatening ordeals they faced.

Overall, it was an interesting read full of the unexpected and many heart touching moments. Certainly worth reading.

Amazing read

I loved this story. Greg seeks to find gold but in stead finds Mercy a independent, tomboy gold miner. Their adventure is troubled with doubts and fear. These story is never a dull moment. Kathleen is a creative story teller and this story is proof of that. I highly recommend you read this story and the others in the series and all titles by Kathleen

Greg finds his treasure

Good story with Greg and mercy. I was frustrated at first with them not being able to plan a life together, but they planned their mine . All ends well though and can’t wait to read about the next sibling.

This gives a good look at what the mining days where really like.

I would recommend this book to all. Mining was a hard life. Marry papa knew she would need to be protected. They had a hard beginning you need to read it to find out how and if they survived it all.

A good read

I have read many of Us Ball's books and have enjoyed each of them. There is just enough adventure and romance to keep your attention. I like how there is a certain amount of uncertainty between the main characters to keep it interesting.

Good easy reading little too much romance and not enough adventure, but all in all enjoyable.

Good interesting tale could have had a little more action, was very predictable. I knew what was going to happen from page 1

He wanted to prove he was a man

She taught him how to mine for gold, he taught her how to love him. She didn't think she was good enough for him. Do he had to teach her how much he loved her just how she was.

New series from this Author

It was definately a different, mild story compared to her other series. It was the coming of age, growing together kind of a book.
