Tamara, Taken

Rate this book
Once upon a time...
I was a 19-year-old girl with a law school scholarship. My ugly past was finally behind me and my whole life lay ahead. My name... was Tamara.
But now...
I don't own my mind or my body anymore. I don't even have my name. Now, I'm called Toy, and I am the prisoner of the most beautiful serial killer the world has ever seen.

My purpose in life is to please him, to crawl for him, to serve his every whim instantly without question.
Sometimes it amuses him to give me pleasure so intense I think I’ll die. Sometimes it amuses him to invent new ways to make me scream.

He says I’ll never feel the wind on my face again.
He says that his face is the last that I’ll ever see.
He likes to make me cry.
He says that he's the only one allowed to hurt me, so he’ll keep me safe and caged until the day I die.

And soon...
There’s an evil worse than him crawling through the shadows of our lives.
When the past comes knocking, my jailor may be my only savior.

This is a dark romance, which contains scenes which some might find disturbing. It is part one of a two-part duet.

Pure Dark Brilliance.

I’m a person who reads a blurb buys the book if it seems good. I’m not a real follow the author kind of girl. I do have a couple that I keep an eye on to see what new releases they have coming but I do not ever buy according to author alone. Ginger has changed that for me. She nails dark reads better than anyone I’ve ever read. She’s simply brilliant and the greatest thing to hit this genre that I can think of. I wait on pins and needles for her releases. This is my favorite book yet. I absolutely loved everything about it. Dark reads aren’t an easy write, but she nails the H’s ability to be a dark character and STAY a dark character even after loving the h. I’m riveted and cannot wait for the next book!!!!!

I read a ton of dark books, many of them about abduction/kidnapping by sociopaths, and this is one of the most innovative out there. It was also incredibly well written with fascinating, entertaining, depraved characters. Despite all of this, for some indescribable reason, I didn’t get that FEELING that makes me give a book 5-stars. Even though I thought the premise and characters were incredible, teh story dragged on slowIy and I didn’t struggle to put the book down to go to sleep at night. Talbot is most certainly talented, and this book left me eager to know what’s going to happen next, but an unidentifiable something was missing for me...

No. Joshua's not my boyfriend, and we're not having a fun afternoon of light banter. I am sitting here chained to a fucking chair."

***SOME SPOILERS***

I've tried to read a few master/slave stories AKA hero takes the heroine to turn into a complete slave, whether through illegal means like kidnapping, trafficking market or to pay a debt, but I've never been able to finish a story about "breaking a heroine", unless you count Trent Evans but that's more erotic smut than it is about creating a suspenseful atmosphere.

Tamara, Taken hooked my complete attention. I did tap out when Tamara tried to be a good Toy but thank god that didn't last long. I think what kept my attention was the character psychology and the cliffhanger:

1) The hero is a psychopath who isn't happy about breaking Tamara but also doesn't know how else to have a relationship with Tamara.

This suspenseful BDSM romance captured my attention during Tamara Is A Toy phase when Tamara is too scared after a particularly punitive episode that leaves her broken. I think there could have been more twisting of angst here, but I felt like the author was more interested in exploring this question of what happens when a psychopath gets what he wants?

Hero succeeds, at least momentarily, of bending heroine's will to his own, but he finds out he preferred her when she was fighting him.

Meanwhile, heroine is trying hard to be a mindless drone but notices hero is slowly losing interest in her for listening to the rules. I loved how Ginger Talbot wrote these scenes. Of how heroine is trying hard to be a good captive, but at the same time, who she is is not broken, but waiting to wake up. I really loved reading that.

2) The cliffhanger - ooooh that was good!

In terms of the scenes, the hero is physically violent to the heroine in scenes meant to break her but they aren't too angst-ridden or twisted, although I was surprised by the extent of some of his actions. He was rude to her a few times when he said she was dirty or dumb during the period when he was breaking her. However, these moments were balanced out by the fact that it was clear he did like her, and when he finally realized he liked more as Tamara instead of Toy, he did not use the same tactics of menace on her, which meant she could talk back to him without it going down the well-trodden path of her being scared. There was this balance so I never felt like things were too outrageous, even though there certainly were some scenes.

Now on to Book 2 because I need to know what happens!!

This was the first book in a new series too me and this book took me on one hell of a ride. I was hooked when I saw the line "Dexter Meets 50 Shades of Grey." . Tamara Bennett in a 19 year with a scholarship to law school Tamara has had a hard life she grew up in foster care after her mother died. Tamara tries to help everyone she volunteers and she feeds a homeless man named Mark. While waiting tables at a club she meets hot sexy and rich Joshua Smith or who she thinks is Joshua when she gets a flier in the mail she applies for a summer job with his company only he doesn't remember her. When he fires her she is hurt and to make matters worse the guard tries to rape her. When she goes to get her purse she walks in on Joshua killing him for trying to rape her so he kidnaps her. This was a very good dark read I think I just found my next favorite dark erotic author. Joshua is a psychopath he kills people who need to be killed he is also a sadist he grew up watching his father rape and kill girls his father also beat him and killed his brother's while his mother stood by and did nothing. Joshua wants Tamara to be his slave and when I say he is a sadist boy is he. Tamara was tortured from caning to some kind of electric thing in the floor. The girl who takes care of his house Elizabeth was a girl that his father kidnapped and when he left he set her free she hated Tamara because she is in love with Joshua and when she slapped her she was beaten. I didn't care for her I mean she cut her own tongue out to prove to him that she wouldn't talk. When things begin to happen to his company Joshua knows someone is messing with him but he doesn't know who. He also doesn't know what happened to her neighbor Heather who seems to have vanished. This was my first time reading this author the sex between these two were hot and heavy. The ending of this book was just crazy and I did not see it coming I thought it was one thing and it turned out to be something else. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

"In the end, it doesn’t really matter why she’s the one for me. All that matters is that I’ll make her fully mine."

I’m not exactly sure how I feel about this book? I liked it, I enjoyed reading it. But I also hated it at the same time…That being said, I’ll still read the next book of the duet. 🤝

Joshua is a real psychopath, I like him but I also hate him, his degradation towards tamara was just too much for my liking, and that’s the part of the book I hated with everything in me.

Tamara is a strong girl, she went through a lot and yet kept fighting. I truly admire her. I liked her better than the MMC.

The book definitely has a lot of potential, but bdsm isn’t my cup of tea hence the 3 stars, but if you’re into bdsm, you’ll definitely love it, it’s HEAVY on bdsm.

Always a great read when I end up liking a heroin in a Dark Romance, and Tamara was very likable.

At some point, I was a little scared the Author was going the same path as every book with kidnapping theme (A little rebellion, lot of punishment, forced orgasms, consented orgasms, falling in love, HEA), but I was wrong, and I'm happy I continued reading.

I'm looking forward to the next book, and really hope she'll keep the heroin as strong willed in it as she was in this one!

I'm returning this for a refund but I'm still trying to be generous with my reviews. Anyway, this book sounded so good and it ended up being on the low side of okay to where I don't want it sitting on my kindle and I want my four dollars back.

In short, the book is about a teen being kidnapped by her serial killer boss who then tries to beat her down and turn her into a slave to his liking. I don't know what I expect with these books anymore but I am tired of the setting constantly being in a remote mansion someplace and the chick isn't allowed to go outside. I'm also tired of, despite the fact the guy is a serial killer, rape is a line he won't cross and thus actual intercourse is stalled throughout the course of the book until the chick just begs for it.

The author did a great job painting the past of Joshua. It sounded real, but I felt some kind of disappointment when I realized he mainly kidnapped her to study human emotions. At least, I believe that was his initial reason for kidnapping her.

Well, this was a dull read for me. The scenes in the playroom were skimmed. I don't care for that kind of stuff and it was more dragged out than the actual sexual acts. Tamara was the same as any heroine in these kinds of stories. Scared at first. Finds the killer attractive but spends half the book trying to deny her body's reactions to his touch. Attempts to fool him with fake submission but has opposite thoughts of what she says. Finally breaks down and becomes that mindless zombie he wants.

But shock, towards the end she snaps out of that and just doesn't care and goes on to constantly insult him. That was interesting to read but to regret some of them later was annoying.

I don't know if I'll read the next book or not. The only difference between this book and so many others like is the stupid plot twist at the end. Nah, I won't spoil it.

God I loved this book. I'd seen it recommended by other lovers of all things dark and decided that whilst I had a KU subscription I had nothing to lose by giving it a try. Oh boy they weren't lying when they labelled this as dark. There's no holding back in this tale of kidnap and abuse.

Oh my word we have a truly dark and f**ked-up antihero in Joshua, an uncaring psychopath that never lost his edge. Tamara was an even better heroine, though I'm not convinced that she ever felt like a 19 year old. However given her history I found I could let that go.

The mind-games, the punishments, the evil, the pain - oh how it satisfied my little black heart. The battles were so real, Tamara's terror was palpable, I felt the bruises and whippings. I loved how Joshua learnt to be careful what you wish for, because it isn't always what you want.

I totally believed in Tamara's fight. Her inner strength that kept her strong for such a long time .....until it didn't. And yet the story doesn't end there, instead there are further unexpected developments in the 'relationship' between Master and his Toy. The plot twisted in ways so different to many books in the genre, and it held my attention from start to finish.

I'm off right now to get the second book in the duet, I can't wait any longer to complete reading this mesmerising and very twisted story.

This was my first book by this author and I enjoyed it.
Joshua is a psychopath in every true sense and he kidnaps Tamara to learn normal human emotion and behaviour simultenously wants to break her and keep her with him forever and strangely from his POV he loves her as well. Intially I thought Tamara would be like every other FMC in these types of books, strong in the begining but then getting meeker and breaking. But Tamara surprised me. I really liked her inner dialouges that kept the book interesting. Overall I didnt see the plot twist coming and this book end on cliffhanger. Overall I enjoyed it

A shade too dark at times, but enjoyable. There was a point when I was wondering if the h ever regains herself, for I want my heroines to have spunk and a spine of steel, and I’m looking forward to reading book #2 to see her truly fierce.

Never knew I liked them dark and twisted, but read and learn I guess.

Fabulous

It’s rare when a book actually leaves my heart beating out of my chest, but this story certainly accomplished that. Loved the characters and their complexity. Looking forward to book 2.

PussnBooks.net Reviewing the darkest erotic books we can find.

Holy crap! This book knocked my knickers off! I loved it from the first word to the very last.
It was so deliciously dark that I had no idea how any of these people were gonna come out of it even remotely sane.

TAMARA- this poor girl. She’s had a right shitty childhood and is carrying the emotional scars with her into every single day. She wakes up with a panic attack every morning and she has some sad wee techniques to help get her through the day “safely”.

In an attempt to get her sexy boss to notice her she re-introduces herself at a company function one night and the bugger fires her! Just like that!

Anyway after the security guard tries to rape her on the way out she realizes that she left her purse there. When she returns late at night she sees her boss stabbing the security guard that attacked her.
From then on, life as she knew it is over.

JOSHUA - Ooft! Where to begin..? Ok, so this guy is a psychopath. No joke. He is cruel, cold, and focused. He also has a thing for wee Tamara.

Once he abducts her and brings her home he begins to train her to be 100% his willing slave. To do his bidding without hesitation. But it's not quite happening the way he thought it would be.

His childhood was one of complete and utter cruelty. No person could have come out of it without some deep mental scarring. I'll show you a passage, just so you know how dark it is.

.That was all we knew of sex. A man’s cruel laughter, the dull thud of blows, a woman’s wails of pain. Sometimes she needed time to heal. She’d limp around the house, dragging her body around, whimpering in pain with each step as she cooked our meals and washed our clothes and scrubbed the floors.
.

I think this is one of the darkest I've read for a while and it was utterly amazing. So many feels! I just can't bring myself to hate him though goddess knows he deserves it. Maybe...lol. I'll be honest, this book makes me think and feel things I have no business feeling and thinking.

.“I’ll break you down and make you into what I want. You will acknowledge me as your master, and not just in words. You are not allowed to disagree with me in your thoughts anymore. Do you understand me?”
.

But wait! There's more to this book than just the sex and training etc. There is also a shit ton of suspense!

Yup, there is more fuckery afoot and I was on the edge of my bed trying to figure out what was going on.

SEX SCENES - Holy shit! I am glad that he doesn't force her. Ever. Instead, he waits until she is begging him to fuck her. And boy does he! Extremely well-written scenes.

.“Please, Master. Please fuck me.” He smiles at me gently, running his finger down the wet seam of my pussy. Maddeningly light. Do it harder. “Do you really want me to fuck you, Toy?” “Yes, Master, oh, please. Oh, God. Please fuck me.” His eyes spark with cruelty and malice. “Do you deserve it, Toy?”
.

FINAL THOUGHTS - This was an amazing book with steamy sex, sickening trauma (both mental and physical) and brilliant suspense. I loved it and have already started the next in the series!

This was good but around 70% I got bored and put the book on hold for few weeks, hence the 3 star rating. But I am glad I went back because I really liked how the book ended even though it was cliffhanger.

Joshua was a really intriguing character. I am really interested to see how he will fare in the next book with his brother on the loose, especially now that he’s started feeling some sort of emotion. He was really cruel throughout the story but I loved reading the parts where he realized he liked Tamara better than toy because….well! Same 💀. I also really loved that even though he was softening towrads Tamara, he stayed dark till the very end.

And for Tamara, I really loved her. She was so strong for her situation. I had a great time laughing at her insults towards him and his reactions towards it. I also hope Elizabeth is not dead, I think she added a lot to the story and deserves to be happy because in a way she was also a victim.

This was actually written really well but I felt something was missing. The story also felt dragged especially in the middle. But other than that, overall a good read. I am looking forward to read the next book.

The day i received Ginger’s email containing an ARC of Tamara,Taken,i jumped with joy. Already aware this was going to be a dark story,it still was a shock to find out how dark....But it held me prisoner until the very last page. All i can say without spoiling too much is,that Joshua is a real psychopath. One that became the person he is because of his past. Not that that’s a good excuse, not at all. And Tamara? She is a survivor. And it’s because of her past that she is as tough as she is today. Put those 2 together and you have a deeply disturbing story. One that has a cliffhanger that kills me......because there is a second part......one that i will have to wait for until May 7

3,5 stelline

Devo metterti in rigaaaah!!
Tutta l'atmosfera è andata a farsi friggere.

5 utterly twisted stars

This was all kind of screwed up and I loved it.

Joshua is an absolute lunatic and he scares me on a deep level. That being said, I kind of loved him, even when I hated him. I liked him best when he was taking care of Tamara, he was sweet at times, even though he was her captor. I wasn't such a big fan after the 'incident' and he turned into a huge dick. I'm glad he saw sense in the end though.

Tamara however, frustrated me. I think she was too stupid to live a lot of the time. You're living with a serial killer, stop antagonizing him!

This was a dark, twisted ride and I'd really recommend it if you like dark romance.

I cannot say enough about this magnificent author, Ginger Talbot writes it darker and with more emotion than any other dark romance writer! It scares the pants of you to read but like any horror movie you can’t stop watching. I had to read it in one sitting as the twists and turns just kept coming. Tamara’s feistiness and strong character was the only thing keeping her alive, she just didn’t know it! You simply hate and love Joshua all at the same time but what a monster he is! Will Tamara’s chants and rituals keep her alive? One thing for sure is I will just have to read the second part of this superb duet! I can highly recommend this must read as the duet of the year! This is my honest review of an ARC I received.

There is absolutely nothing sweet about this story. Joshua is a sadist and he admits it within the first couple of chapters of this book. This is no sweet BDSM love story. He hurts and abuses the woman he gets, usually escorts that he gets for the night. But for whatever reason, he finds himself obsessed with Tamara. So when he gets the chance he abducts her and keeps her.

Tamara for all it is worth fights like she has never fought before. She takes everything Joshua gives her and more. And even after everything you read, the ending will surprise the hell out of you. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy for my honest review.

So can't wait for the next book!

🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤢🤢🤢

4 stars.

*Review Full of spoilers*

This was a pretty good book. It was defiantly character driven with little plot. This is never a problem for me, except in this book I could tell there was supposed to be a good plot and that fell short for me.

There were many scenes that were not called for considering the plot didn't fully develop until the last five percent. The scenes at the police station could have been cut out completely. I knew the neighbor was going to be involved somehow, but having her show up at the very end was not surprising at all. I wish the brother was developed slightly better. Maybe in the flashbacks we could have learned how he was slightly better than Joshua at things. I hated all the name calling by Tamara. It was like she was a child who would say as many bad words as she could think of, and none of the made sense.

Now onto the things that I loved. I loved Joshua. Even when he was torturing people and studying Tamara. I Love how the author wrote a book where the girl did not completely submit and follow orders. I also loved how when she did give up, Joshua hated it. He wanted a fighter, and in most books that side of the male (kidnapper) is not explored. I thought Elizabeth was a little useless, but her presence constantly reminded the reader that if Joshua had to choose, it would be Tamera.

Some parts of me feel like this book deserves 3.5 stars instead of four, but I have faith that book 2 will be better. So I added the .5 points with the hope of a better book. In my non-professional opinion, I think the ending was done sloppily. of course I believe book two will break things down and fix them, but I am also afraid the author will just rush through the plot point in order to reunite Tamara and Joshua.

This was... interesting. I didn't particularly enjoy it but the way Joshua was portrayed was pretty good? Like he's a sociopath obviously but he wasn't really redeemed or didn't turn into mush bc he got "attached" to someone. I liked Tamara when she finally started fighting back. The way she talked to Joshua was funny as hell for me.

I didn’t do it on my own. I never would have. Just kill me and get it over with, you scum-licking pig, because I am Tamara Bennett, and I will end your disgusting life or die trying. I am not Toy, I was never Toy, and I never will be. You fucking failed at breaking me, like you fail at life, you piece of shit.”

"Have to be human to understand, Joshua dick-sucking piece-of-crap Smith. And by the way? You’re a liar, you little turd-breath asshole.

Her cruelty is breath-taking. Highly impressive. Worthy of me. Where did it come from?

“I manipulate others to get what I want.” Well, obviously. How else would you get what you want? By saying pretty please?

Pulls you in

For like half of this book, I really did t care for our main character. She was pretty much an animal with no thoughts of her own. Then she got her backbone back. This truly was a dark story. No rape of the mc. But you have to wonder if her feelings aren't the result of Stockholm syndrome. Because she sure was broke down by him. At the same time she was always attracted to him from the start. And he was quite the lovable kidnapper much later. Be was a real dick for most of the book, at least until he fell in love and grew as a psychopath ummm, I mean as a human, at least a little. Despite this it was a book that really pulls you in.
