The Billionaire’s Legacy by Reese Ryan is a lovely, family focused romance that features a couple who knew each other as children and end up having one night together– with unexpected consequences!

Benjamin Bennett is delighted to see Sloane Sutton, his sister’s best friend and his one time crush at a wedding in their home town. Sure, she’s five years older than he is, but now that he’s 25, that age difference means nothing. Sloane is equally happy to see Benji and can admit that he’s grown into a fine looking man. There’s a frisson of attraction between them that leads to a steamy night together but in the morning they go their separate ways.

Six months later, after Benji has returned from some contract work out of the country he comes to pay Sloane a visit, hoping they can rekindle that magic night together. In doing so he discovers that Sloane is pregnant, with twins! He’s hurt that she never contacted him as they are his babies too but Sloane had taken his words about not being ready for kids and had been torn about telling him, putting off the decision. Now it’s out in the open and Benji is determined to do the right thing.

A billionaire due to some fortunate tech deals, Benji has the money to provide for Sloane and the babies in style and he offers marriage. But Sloane is wary of being beholden to him, having learned from her mother’s own experience that marrying for money and a child is not the same thing as marrying for love. She’s willing to live with Benji for the first year of their childrens’ lives and see how things go. Their families and friends have varying opinions about the pregnancy and the relationship, an added stress on their own feelings. When the year is up, will they have found their way to a happy ever after?

So this was my very first time reading Reese Ryan and I was highly impressed. I’ve been on a self imposed ban from billionaire reads because after a while they all seem the same. Ryan was able to put a refreshing spin on the billionaire trope and I loved it so much! Benji and Sloane had been friends since childhood. Sloane is his older sisters best friend and I loved that spin on the story as well.

Throughout the story we see their challenges as they try to navigate and reach a mutual agreement when it comes to them and their new family. This was a sweet, sexy and heartwarming read. Benji was a sweetheart, protective and a stand up guy. Sloane was, hardworking, strong and independent. Both at times can be a little stubborn for their own good.

As I stated before this was my first time reading Reese Ryan and she now has a new fan in me. This was a well written story with enjoyable characters. The plot was refreshing and realistic and held my attention to the very end. I can’t wait to read Parker’s story and I feel he’s going to be a tough nut to crack.

The Billionaire's Legacy has everything my little romance lover's heart desires, childhood crush on the best friend's brother, friends to lovers and secret baby. Benji capitalizes on seeing Sloane at a wedding, he convinces her to have a one night stand. That one night stand ends up with consequences that shake up Sloane and excite Benji. Benji is determined to make a family with Sloane, Sloane is determined to stay independent. Benji and Sloane's journey to their HEA is emotional, sexy and has a little family drama thrown in. The Billionaire's Legacy is a perfect example of why I love the Harlequin Desire line so much!

**** SPOILER ALERT ********** I think the biggest disappointment for me was the fact that this had so much potential, and it fell flat. If your characters are too annoying it's hard to save the book. I struggled to finish and here is why. . .

*
*
*
*

The first part where they meet after years of not seeing each other is fine. The sex was okay too. The first problem we have is when she gets pregnant and decides she's not going to tell him. Sis is STRUGGLING with her health, which causes her to lose her job. She is in debt too (I'm going to come back to that because I have some problems with the reason she in debt)!! She is about to have twins and does she care about the babies? NO!!!

This woman refuses to ask for help! HER BABY DADDY IS A BILLIONAIRE! Oh, but you not gonna tell him because you don't want people to think you're a gold digger?!?!

So, let's pretend it made sense not to tell him. You don't even tell your best friend. I know the best friend also happens to be Benji's sister but can you even say she a friend if you can't trust her to still be pissed at you but help you out?? Ya'll FAKE FRIENDS sis.

So, Benji finds out Sloane pregnant. This fool proceeds to piss me off by refusing this man's help. For why Sloane? He convinces her it's for the best interest of the babies (which should have been her first concern) and she finally gives in.

Then Benji can't let Sloane have all the fun being annoying. This man proceeds on numerous occasions to disregard her feelings out of the guise of wanting to be helpful. This is their formula.

Sloan expresses her feelings + Benji thinks he knows best = Benji acts like an inconsiderate ass.

So, we have this annoying couple. They grew up together but they haven't seen each other in years but we have sexy time and they've just had twins. WE GET NO RELATIONSHIP OR CHARACTER GROWTH FROM EITHER OF THEM. All the moments that were supposed to prove to us that they really knew each other and loved each other, happened off the pages. I finished reading the book feeling NO connection with either of them. He kept saying how much he loved her but I didn't believe him. He never listened to her and also like I never saw what was so great about her in the first place either.

This is what I do know about Sloane:

1. She takes care of horrible family members: But why? She was paying medical bills for her grandfather (even though he never treated her like he loved her). They had no relationship, just shared blood. I don't know why she felt obligated to do that. Also, you got a whole Momma. Why can't she take care of her own Dad??

2. She doesn't want people to compare her to her alleged "gold digger" Mom: Sway, she was complaining about moving back to their hometown because people would talk. YOU BARELY LEFT THE HOUSE! How was she supposed to hear the gossip???

3. She wants her fake friends: I can appreciate her trying to rekindle the relationship between Benji and his family. Why are we trying to be friends again with this scum? Not only did Benji's sister accuse Sloane of being a gold digger she had the nerve to still be big mad MONTHS after Sloane has had the babies. You missed the whole process of her having the babies and being there for her and defending her character to your parents. Yet, YOU want to be mad????? WE WOULD NOT BE FRIENDS AFTER THAT. What was your name again? Oh, your related to Benji?? That's crazy! I didn't know he had a sister. That's the energy you would be getting!

What I do know about Benji:

1. He thinks he's romantic: I'm not sure why he thought she would drop EVERYTHING to go with him to Japan. Doesn't sound romantic to me. Were you trying to be her sugar daddy? Cause basically you asked her to drop everything that's important to her and become a kept woman. We're not even gonna talk about the trash proposal after finding out she was pregnant.

2. He thinks he's in love: This man has "loved" her since he was ten. He swears it's not a crush anymore but we don't get to see the evolution of his love. What was the differences between her as a teenager and her as a woman? I don't know much about her except that being a gold digger is her worst fear.

3. He's throwing his money around because he cares: SIR, it's nice to do thoughtful things for your partner. However, it's not so thoughtful when it's in complete opposition of what the person wants.

4. He will stand up against his family for her: I did appreciate him reading them and defending her. He kind of messes this up by listening to gossip and second guessing her character later but it's on brand for him so. . .

5. He has trust issues with her: Okay, this is understandable because she kept the pregnancy hidden but I don't appreciate him getting mad at her about hidden secrets after the fact. He was hot when he found out that she was communicating with his sister about the babies behind his back but sir, didn't you:

a. buy a chef by "surprise"
b. have the babies rooms that she wanted to help set up, designed by someone else by "surprise"
c. Throw a party for a new mother of twins the first day she makes it home by "surprise"

I was heated that he had the nerve to be angry about her trying to reunite his family. He thinks just because he called it a "surprise" he was justified in keeping things from her.

After all this foolishness, they ruin it even more with the ending.

THIS MAN IS A BILLIONAIRE!!!!! HE DOESN'T NEED THIS NEW CONTRACT IN JAPAN!!

Instead of her moving back to Nashville for her dream job, she's like no, let's go to Japan for the six month contract you don't need. Yeah, we can move to our hometown while I do absolutely nothing with my dreams.

Disappointed is an understatement.

side note: The couple from the other book (can't remember there names), they were the ONLY likable ones in the book.

I definitely liked this. I loved that the hero was willing to walk away from his family because they were being dicks to the mother of his children. I loved that actual time passed as the relationship between the hero and heroine transitioned to more than friends and a ONS. I really liked how well drawn the heroine's insecurities were, and how you can see that changing throughout the book.

What troubled me a little--and I think a lot of this is explained by the conversation between the heroine and her supposed best friend at the end of the book when she expresses her guilt for almost keeping the hero away from his twins because she was determined to do it on her own--was that the heroine just continuously gives in to what the hero wants. And you know, I get it, if someone was offering me a cook, and a maid, and a nanny, and I saw how all of those things made my life better, I'd be fine with it too. But he turned a decorator loose in the nursery when they'd talked about how important it was to her to do it together. He donated the furniture that she'd bought to a shelter while she was in the hospital recovering from giving birth!!!! And she never really blows up at him about any of it, except when she wakes up one morning to find a nanny there without her having been warned because he wanted her to sleep in.

It just bugged me. It felt like the relationship was never on secure enough grounds for her to confront him about it, but maybe it's just me that would have wanted to instead. Anyway, glad I read this! Going to see if my library will cough up the rest of the series.

The Billionaire Legacy was a great story, I enjoyed the journey with Benji and Sloan. Benji had been infatuated with his sister’s best friend since he was 10 and seeing her again once he was all grown up, gave him confidence to approach her and live out his childhood crush. Sloan no longer seeing her best friend brother as a little kid ends up having a one night stand with him and becomes pregnant with twins.

This was nice how the author picked right up where the last book left off at, it was also good to see some of the other characters from Savannah’s Secret. No doubt Parker was still being his hateful self I cannot wait for a women to get him tamed and get him in place. Another great book by Reese Ryan that will not disappoint you.

There’s a saying that love knows no age. For Benjamin “Benji” Bennett that statement could not be any truer. Since Benji was ten years old he’s known he was in love with Sloane Sutton, his older sister Delia’s best friend. Many thought it was simply an unrequited crush, but Benji knew differently. For Benji, Sloane was a dream come true. “You always made me feel that just being me was good enough.” It’s been ten years since the two have seen each other. Now the wedding of Benji’s cousin Blake brings these two back together.

A night of catching up leads to a night of getting each other out of their systems. Much too soon, business calls Benji away and the result is six months of wishing Sloane was still in his arms. When he tracks her to Nashville, Benji receives the surprise of his life. Not only is Sloane pregnant, but she’s pregnant with twins and the babies are his. Benji wants to get married, but Sloane is opposed to the idea. She knows what it will look like to marry the younger, billionaire father of her kids. But Benji is persistent and makes Sloane a deal she can’t refuse. Unfortunately, when news of the pregnancy spreads, Sloane’s worst fears become true. Benji’s family, friends, and half of their hometown of Magnolia Lake, Tennessee thinks she got pregnant to trap a billionaire. Benji refuses to think the worse of Sloane and ultimately cuts ties with his parents and sister.

From the beginning, I loved Sloane and Benji. Sloane is a woman who’s always taken care of herself. She isn’t use to asking for help or having anyone help her. However, when someone else needs help she’s there no matter what. Benji is a self-made billionaire, from a well off family. In fact, his family means everything to him. He’s an easy-going guy with a heart of gold. I found The Billionaire’s Legacy to be a refreshing read. There wasn’t any of the typical conflicts found in romance novels. You’re able to see Benji and Sloane get to know each other as adults and fall in love, all while becoming a family.

The Billionaire’s Legacy is part of Harlequin Desire’s Billionaires and Babies series. But more importantly, it’s part of Reese Ryan’s Bourbon Brothers series world. Which means Benji, Sloane, and characters from the Bourbon Brothers series will make crossover appearances. It should be noted that The Billionaire’s Legacy is a standalone read, picking up where Savannah’s Secrets ends.

The Billionaire's Legacy

I enjoyed Sloane and Benji's story. It was sweet and sensual plus it contained one of my fave tropes which made it that much more enjoyable. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

This story is the first in the Billionaires and Babies series but it is also part of the Bourbon Brothers series, though you don’t have to have read any of the earlier stories in that series to appreciate this story which works great as a standalone IMHO.

In this story, Benjamin Bennett (Benji) had a crush on his sister’s best friend, Sloane Sutton, since he was ten years old and she was fifteen. Now he’s twenty-five, all grown up, a highly successful billionaire and back in town to attend his cousin’s wedding. Who should he spot at the reception but Sloane. Speaking to her, dancing with her, the spark is stronger than ever, their attraction volatile and irresistible as now she sees him as a man, not her friend’s younger brother. They have a steamy encounter before he jets off to Japan for six months. On his return he goes straight to see Sloane and discovers she’s six months pregnant with twins! Could this be the start of their HEA or will fate put too many obstacles in their path? You’ll have to read it to discover what happens next!

This is a lovely, heartwarming romance and the twins definitely make this different to the usual billionaire romances! Family history and attitudes are key to how Sloane and Benji react to each other and expectations. It is a great romance with brilliant characters and I really wanted to have serious words with Benji’s Mum - grr!! There are so many challenges to be faced by this couple, making it an entertaining story to escape into and one I have no hesitation in highly recommending to anyone who enjoys reading small town or billionaire romances.

I requested and was given a copy of this book, via NetGalley. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.

Sassy, spicy & captivating!

Absolutely loved Sloane's independent spirit! Nothing worse than having a group of nosy grown folk talking about you behind your back, about things that are only 1/4 true and absolutely none of their business! So Sloane understood that when you earn your own money, you never have to ask those busybodies for anything.

Every man in Sloane's life let her down - her grandfather, her father, her ex-husband. So she was determined to make it on her own.
Currently, she's back in town for Blake and Savannah's wedding and runs into, now billionaire, Benji, who has been in love with Sloane since he was 10 years old. Say what?

Anyway, 6 months later, Benji drops in on Sloane, in Nashville. He discovers she's pregnant with his twins. She had no intention of asking him for anything. Of course, his snooty family accuses Sloane of being a gold digger and trying to trap Benji into marriage.

I felt so sorry for Sloane and loved that she refused to marry him under any circumstances. Benji's mother and sister got on my last nerve and soon discovered that Sloane can take care of herself!

Great story!

This is my least favorite hero. I didn't like how he was constantly ambushing the heroine with "surprises" while accusing her of hiding things whenever she did the same.

Also, I'm not a fan of baby stories. 😕

This contemporary category m/f romance hit the spot on a hard day. This romance has best friend's brother, surprise baby and billionaire romance tropes, with a bit of a second chance romance and a childhood crush thrown in for good measure. It was tropey in all the right ways, well paced, and engaging, and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Reese Ryan’s latest shows why she is fast becoming such a fan favourite with Desire readers. The Billionaire’s Legacy has everything you expect in a Desire — glamour, sensual scenes and a good dash of family drama.
Ryan’s writing is as smooth and rich as the bourbon which forms the backbone of her Bourbon brothers’ series. While this story is not about the King family, it is a chance to revisit the world she created and to learn more about the environs.
It is a secret baby combined with a friends to lovers story. The hero Benji has loved the heroine Sloane for years, but she never noticed him beyond being her best friend’s brother. When a wedding of friends (Blake and Savannah from the first Bourbon brothers’ book) provides an opportunity for a clearly defined one-night stand, Benji believes his dreams have come true except there are consequences and now independent Sloane is having to cope with her worst nightmare. Can a long ago friendship lead to something much more?
It is a fabulous escapist read which you hold in its grip and have you longing for the next Bourbon brothers (April 2019) Ryan shows that Desire really delivers on its promise. So settle down with your favourite tipple by your side and read.

Hmmmmm-

Sloan and Benji had known each other since they were little, Sloan being Benji's older sister's best friend. Benji had always had a crush on her, and when they met again at a wedding after ten years, he felt that it was the right time to make a move on Sloan, since they were both adults now. Long story short, Sloan became pregnant from the one-night stand they had, and Benji managed to convince her to live with him for a year so that he could take care of her and their twin babies, and also to see if they could hack it as a real couple.

The story itself is a pleasant read thoroughout, but there was something missing for me. Maybe it lacked angst? I don't know. I didn't feel much for the characters and I wish I did, because it would have made the book more enjoyable. The pacing was kind of off for me too; the plot was played out over their 'trial' year, so naturally there were a lot of time-jumps between scene (a few weeks later etc) but they didn't feel seamless to me.

Overall I wish I had loved this more but maybe it will work for other people. Anyway, this is my first Reese Ryan book and I like the writing, so I'm most definitely keeping an eye on her future works.

E-ARC is received thanks to the author.

I gave this one 🍷🍷🍷🍷and recommend it to any fan of romance with a few twists in the journey.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this one but was pleasantly surprised, it was anything but a typical story about a billionaire with a baby. It was a test of fate, family bonds and the loyalty of a friendship.

When Benji and Slone decide to spend a nightcap of catching up, they later find out it tied them to a lifelong commitment. The family and friendship ties are put to test. Being a billionaire isn’t what has Slone proceeding with caution, its’ the fact that he is all grown up and hard to resist. The decision to make a clean separation the morning after would allow her to walk away and cut all ties. Slone had been able to hide her secret from everyone, until Benji shows up on her door step and she is forced to deal with her feelings for him and expose why she has been hiding.

After exposing her with a surprise visit his emotions are in a tailspin. Now, with marriage on his mind, Benji is more determined to make them a family, but can he trust her? He devises a plan that would keep them together until he could convince her that they belong together. Telling his family proved to be more difficult than convincing her.

Will he be able to get her to agree to his proposal?  Will acceptance of love and forgiveness come before it’s too late to mend the bonds?

I liked it.

This book featured one of my favourite tropes, secret baby, executed really well. The author did not let the issue drag too long and the heroine did understand the gravity of her poor judgement even as the hero kind of understood the reason why. I think that the conflicts in this book made sense and I love that in spite of the external voices trying to influence Benji, he never once wavered in his support for the heroine. He’s truly book hero goals for this specific trope. Highly recommend this romance.

This is my first book by Ms. Ryan, but it definitely won’t be my last! I’ll admit that even though I don’t usually like “oops baby” stories, I was drawn in by the gorgeous cover and the blurb featuring the friends-to-lovers trope. I’m glad I took a chance, because this was so much fun! This is a standalone, but set in the same world as her Bourbon Brothers series, and I think it works fine without having read the other series.

Sloane’s living her dream – well, sort of – and on track for getting a lucrative promotion at her music industry job in Nashville when she returns home to Magnolia Lake for a family wedding. She’s surprised to find out that her best friend’s little brother, Benji, has grown up into a handsome, kind man, and a tech billionaire, to boot. One thing leads to another, and she ends up spending the night with him, only for him to surprise her with the offer to go with him on a six month business trip to Japan. Sloane, however, is fiercely independent, and doesn’t want to be his kept woman, so she refuses. Benji can’t stop thinking about her, however, so he decides to surprise her with flowers when he returns home. Well, she has her own surprise as well, as she’s pregnant – with twins. Benji has a plan for how to make things right, but can Sloane give up her hard-won independence?

Just two old friends catching up on each other’s lives. Nothing wrong with that.
She repeated it three times in her head. But there was nothing friendly about the sensations that danced along her spine when he’d held her in his arms and pinned her with that piercing gaze.
“Okay. Maybe we can catch up over a cup of coffee or something.”
“Or something.”

Benji is a fixer. If he sees a problem, he tries to solve it, even if others think it’s impossible. Initially, he even approaches winning Sloane over to his side as if she’s a business deal – and I’m sure you can guess how that goes. Sloane is used to taking care of herself and not relying on others, so the thought of being completely dependent on him is terrifying to her. Benji’s family, including his sister, Sloane’s best friend, don’t react well to the news, and Sloane’s very much aware that she’s the reason for the rift between Benji and his mom and sister. Because of that, she worries that Benji will come to resent her as nothing but a gold digger – like his mother believes – and that it will taint his relationship with the twins. Watching them navigate Sloane’s stubbornness and Benji’s need to get things done was very entertaining. Ms. Ryan managed to make the “oops baby” and “billionaire romance” tropes, something that’s been done a hundred times before, feel fresh and interesting.

I was a bit disappointed that Benji’s steamrolling of Sloane was never fully addressed. For instance, when the babies came early, he called in a decorator to finish the nursery – without telling Sloane, who’d been adamant that she wanted to do it herself. The worst, though, was that he planned a big “welcome home” party and invited all of the family for when she first came home from the hospital. I remember how I felt both times with my kids, and frankly, I have a ridiculous amount of respect for Sloane for not turning into an incandescent ball of rage and ripping Benji a new one. I think he did get better as the book progressed, but honestly, I would’ve liked more groveling!

Overall, I very much enjoyed this book, and will definitely be picking up the others in the series!

I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

When you fall in love at five how do you tell your heart no? That is what Benjamin Bennett decided he would no longer deprive his heart what it has always wanted.

He was at his cousin’s wedding, who happens to be good friends with Sloane Sutton the woman of his dreams. The only drawback in the whole deal is… Sloane is his older sister’s best friend. Making her five years older than he is. Which should only count when he was five years old right?

When he saw his sister leave with his niece, he found his opening and decided to take. He walks over to the table Sloane’s at to talk with her. When they had greeted each other earlier she thought she approved at what she saw when she looked at him but now, he was positive.

When a song came on from their childhood that they both remember his overplaying they laughed and he asked her to dance. At first, she wasn’t going to but then she went for it. The sparks were flying for both of them he could tell because her breathing had changed and she was standing closer.

He flat out told her he wanted her. She tried to use the excuse of their age but he said it did count he was no longer five. He asked her to meet him at the family cabin which he told her he now owned and redid since. She surprised him and agreed. Only if they left at different times. He happily agreed. After they talked for two hours straight, she got ready to leave when he asked her to stay. No strings.

When he kissed her, they both felt the instant chemistry. She stays. The next morning, he is so happy before he realizes what he’s doing he asks her to go to Japan with him for the six months he will be there. To his relief she says no, he is relieved right, he needs to think about that.

She says no she has to work. Which she does, with two loans to pay, a house payment, and bills. Life could not stop for a pleasure trip she is not a billionaire like him. She’s happy she turned him, down right? Now she has to think about why she turned him down.

After six months of respecting each other boundaries and not calling each other which they both so wanted to do. Benji is back in the country and so wanting to see her he flies straight into Nashville to see Sloane instead of going home to Seattle. He didn’t call he wants to surprise her.

Boy does his life change in an instant to the point when he becomes dizzy. Yet, she’s the one who bumps her head getting out of the car when he startles her and passes out. He needs to rush her to the hospital due to her condition but he is madder than a hornet.

Although he’s angry for being left out of the loop, he loves and cares for Sloane and is scared for her and the baby’s safety. Little does he know the gifts keep coming.

I really enjoyed this fun fast read. The character’s family members kept you on your toes as to what they might do or say next. Also, how they would handle each new situation the couple were confronted with.

I did have a problem with Benji saying she was lying to him all the time yet hello then have a chef, housekeeper, the nursery redone, but the topper the nanny shows up without telling her. Yes, all nice things but personal things that should be discussed. Withholding same as lying, just saying. Forgiveness after the fact should give her the same pass then, right?

Okay, Iconfess, I don’t care for billionaire stories. I’m not into rich jerks whothink they can use their wealth to get whatever they want. That’s not what The Billionaire’s Legacy is. BenjiBennett is the boy next door who made good. He is a kind, loving person whojust has grown up to be one hot, sexy man with the Midas touch.
I bought The Billionaire’s Legacy because I fellin love with the Bourbon Brothers series. As the manager of an alcoholicbeverage store, the Bourbon Brothers series sounded fun. Reading the excerptfor The Billionaire’s Legacy hookedme on Benji and Sloan’s story.
Sloan is thetough girl from the wrong side of town. In Magnolia Lake, everyone thinks theyknow your business, and Sloan couldn’t get away fast enough. When she and Benjimeet again, sparks fly. A one night stand turns into twins.
Reese Ryanhas a way with characters. She has managed to create a hot, sexy hero who isboth sweet and kind but slightly flawed. She coupled him with an amazingly sexywoman who is both strong and vulnerable. While Sloan might be able to conquerthe world, being pregnant with twins has derailed her plans and brought her tothe place where she needs to rely on someone else.
BenjaminBennett has had a crush on Sloan Sutton for most of his life. Can he convinceher that it’s more than a boyhood crush? Can their different plans and goalsfor the future blend together for a happy ending or are they destined to wonderwhat could have been?
This is notjust another billionaire love story, this is real and you know these people.Welcome to Magnolia Lake, you won’t want to leave.
