My magic doesn’t define me. Within my secret, ancient race of witches, everyone prays to join the most powerful circle of all—The Coven. Well, everyone except for me. All I want is to discover the truth of the past that was stolen from me. So I lay low, defending the world from demons and training to strengthen my magic. But when I discover an artifact that can defeat the demons for good, I’m forced to do the one thing I never wanted—claim my rightful place in The Coven so I can hunt down the artifact myself. I know my success will require sacrifices, but I fear I won’t be able to handle the price… Full of magic, adventure, and the alpha bad boy from your dreams, fans of The Mortal Instruments, Arcana Chronicles, or The Secret Circle will love Chandelle LaVaun’s brand new fantasy series! The Chosen Witch is the prequel novella to the The Elemental Magic series.
This short prequel story serves as a great introduction to a new fantasy series; however, reading it after the first two books in the main series hooked me even more. I already am familiar with Tennessee, the Cards and the coven witches, and the prophesied twins, so seeing the events prior to the gathering and having the chance to see into Tenn's past and his background was truly interesting. We get to meet Cassandra, and are introduced to George - I love that sarcastic pendulum. The item with a personality is simply hilarious and I would not change it for any other aspect in the series. I flew through the pages, utterly enjoying the reading experience, and I am already impatiently waiting for the third book in the series to be released.
Fantastic. Everything makes a lot more sense now. It is brilliant how every narrative thread comes together in the future books. I liked very much to read more about Tennessee and what happened prior to the Gathering.
I loved getting an inside look into Tennessee's life before we met him at the gathering. Tenn is such an intriguing character. This is my second read of the series, I absolutely adore these books.
This novella opens up fast-paced and seems to never stop. There is a mother and her two children fleeing, leaving their father behind. The baby, Hope, is then placed in a basket and sent down the river.
The older son is made to forget his name and is told to find his little sister one day with a necklace; they each were given one. He is then told to run towards the Tennesee Wilds, which he does and is found by Kessler to start his new life after losing the only family he has ever known.
Fast forward, Tennesse is now a warrior witch. He and some of his coven are sent to kill a demon before it can reach its home because he had a piece of the prophecy with him. Instead of everything going smoothly, they run into some problems leading to the chase and befriending of a fairy. As things start to heat up, the coven is warned they must go after Twins who are part of a prophecy and soon.
While fulfilling the second part of the prophecy, they lose one of their own. With Cassandra, the Hierophant, now dead, the Coven must now rush to induct the Twins and find the locket, all in 3 weeks, or it will be lost to the goddess
With two parts of the prophecy completed, Tennessee must now go on to complete the third part alone with the assistance of the pendulum related to the prophecy.
Once Tennessee is where the third part of the prophecy is to take place, all hell brakes loose, and Tennessee isn't sure if he succeeded or not. All he knows is his dagger has been altered again, and the girl with the pale green eyes is drawing him in.
It ends with him planning to search for her again before heading back home. I can't wait to see what happens next in The Lost Witch.
This is my first experience with this author. As an introduction to a new series, it hit all of my interests. It was engaging from the beginning, with a prologue, that gave your mind alot of different directions the storyline could take. How it evolved was very well defined, so you knew where you was the whole time. The plots created was and felt very realistic, which is a talent not all authors possess. Then the creative imagination kicked in and gave you a story with a main character that attracted and held fast throughout. There was a lot of heartbreak, friendship, loyalty and maturity he had to face very quickly, which enhanced the depth of his personality and kept him engaged in your sights all the time. There was other characters running alongside him that strengthened the storyline and wouldn’t have worked without, but the author never invested lots of information about them, only enough to make sure they didn’t distract from the main storyline. And leaves lots and lots of scope for the series to develop them more. You will find magic, power, mystery, demons with an underlying insecurity that will lead this main character hopefully having to have many, many different trials he will have to undertake ahead of him, I’m also looking forward to reading more about a love interest that was introduced near the end of the book, but she is already not what he expects.......I’m pleased I came across this author and if the series continues as well as this book, then I can’t wait to find out what happens next..

The Most Compelling & Unique Use of Tarot in Any Fantasy Title I've Read to Date!!!
Uniquely intriguing and captivating, the World Order being intuitive and easily immersive, making the structure and style as one reflected as being 10/10 to my mind. this of course translates to a 5-star rating, but even if you were scoring it based on a wider framework precipitous of the 5/5 score on Amazon/Goodreads, respectively. The use of Taros is extremely intuitive and one of the biggest determinations in arriving at a 5 Stars. It is compelling to say the least, a drive arising in a compelling manner of wanting to see how each individual character is related to, based on their Card that is. I definitively found the story compelling, and as a well length for a detailed prequel, I found an urgency in my drive to read it as quickly as I could.
I read the digital version. I was hooked from the very beginning and was like “unh” when the story ended. I jumped on amazon to find the next book in the series. This book creates a lot of mystery in the first few pages. I really want to know what that is all about. It broke my heart that “George” had to pass. I’m wondering if Tennessee has a twin in which his mother floated down the river telling him they would see each other again. I am curious about the arrival of the twin girls and if Tennessee will find what they are supposed to in time before it returns back to the Goddess. My memory is faulty so I can’t remember what the object is. This book will keep you engaged and wanting more.
The Chosen Witch is a highly enjoyable and complex prequel novella to the The Coven: Elemental Magic Series. This story is filled with so much action, mystery and magical/mystical moments that I had to read it over several days so I was not overwhelmed.
I really enjoyed the use of Tarot Archetypes in the story and the characters and unfolding mysterious spiritual quest is engaging and has me wanting to read more. This author is new to me, and I will be excited to move onto the second book, the Lost Witch as soon as it is available. Highly Recommend, but you might need to take your time reading it, there is so much to take in. Rating: 5 Stars
By the time I saw this book I was already deep into the Coven world. To see the night that Tenn met Tegan and Bettina through his eyes was incredible. I had already read Tegan's story so to see that fateful night through Tenn's POV, was fantastic.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the Coven series to date. I have really enjoyed Chandelle's writing. I love how the different orders (witches, shifters, vampires, and fairies) all have a different way to recognize their soulmate. I think it's absolutely ingenious.
Thank you, Chandelle for making your characters people we really want to connect with, fight with, laugh and cry with.
This was my first experience with Chandelle as an author and the world that she has created.
I really enjoyed this novella. Becoming introduced to Tennessee and the Cards. I think my favourite part of this novella was the pendulum George.
I am really excited to continue on with this series to see if Tennessee ever recovers his memories, and I want to know more about the twins and the prophecy.
Also the ending with Tennessee deciding to stick around at the school to possibly see his Wild Cat again. I am definitely hooked!
This is actually the very first book in the entire Coven series. I just finished the Coven: Academy of Magic series (Season 1) and book 1 in this Elemental series (Season 2). Even though I'm reading these books out of sequence, I really enjoyed this one. It filled some areas for me and introduced Saffie who I encountered in the Academy series. Now I know the history behind George and how Saffie and Tennessee became friends.
I felt this novella was well paced, and did a really good job of introducing the reader to this story. I was intrigued by the use of tarot cards here, as it's much much different than your average witch tale. It left a lot of questions unanswered, but I'm hoping the rest of the series addresses those. Would definitely recommend reading before jumping into the rest of the books.
Tenn’s story starting with when he lost his family as a child. This has been recounted in at least two other books but is most logically set here. In other words, I should have read this book first.
Gives a bit more background on Tennessee, how he meets Saffie and acquires George. Last but not least, he and Tegan set eyes on each other for the first time.
Really enjoyed this prequel novella. It gives you a good insight into some of the characters you meet in the first book as well as lots of situation that happened before. It was also really good at the end of the novella to get a POV from the main male character about the first meeting and fight.
I always love finding enticing new authors, & LaVaun is now on my to be followed list. She transported us to a different side of Salem & it’s trials adding a distinct magical flare of the fae, demon, ghostly kind. Lots of action & questioning of what we thought we knew. I’ll definitely be continuing this series & the others available.
This is a great start to a bóok series. It introduced the main protagonists well enough, yet left an air of mystery that left you needing more from it somehow. Several times, my emotions were shouting at the book, which in my mind denotes a great böok ;a book that draws me into its world, is a great book in my opinion. I look forward to further books.
My first experience with this author was an enjoyable one. This is the prologue to a series, and it was well done if a little shorter (and more frustrating!) than I’d hoped for. A great lead in to what I hope will be an enjoyable series
Loved seeing a prequel to the series. Tenn is an intriguing and exciting character to learn about. His personality and dialogue keeps you glued to the pages. Perfect set up to the series and a great companion to have. Loved it!
Great start to what promises to be a wonderful series. The setting is detailed and the characters are well written and feel real. It is on the shorter side, but you expect that of a prequel so that isn't even really an issue.
I know it's sexist but I kept getting caught on the main witch being a male. Also there's an ongoing group of 22 witches - but they're almost all still in school (or maybe college).
I have fallen in love with this series since the beginning. Following the magical aspects is a world wind of emotions and places to go. I love the characters throughout the book series… definitely read this and then finish this series. You won’t be disappointed!
The story has captured my attention from the beginning, even with the 3 small grammar mistakes within the book. Tennessee is a strong character and I love all the characters throughout the coven. Great job Chandelle, keep it going!
Tennessee and his group are charged with closing The Gap, a portal allowing demons to escape to Eatrh's plane. Full of action, with great characters and plot! I loved it!
my only problem with is that they always succeed... seems like they do not face enough obstacles... that is why I gave it a 3 star review. otherwise it's easy reading and made me laugh at times...
