A classic vintage gothic historical romance with an excellent plot, finely turned logic, perceptive psychological insights, and very strong, well-balanced, page-turning writing. The heroine is fully individualized, unique, admirable, and likable, and the hero (while less in the forefront) is worthy of her and stands on his own two feet. My first Vanessa Blake -- I look forward to more!
