This is an amazingly attractive book, artfully designed and beautifully presented on lovely thick paper, with lots of ‘food porn’ photography, from the star anise endpapers to the usual pictures of figs and lemons. Very well laid out (though the star anise indicator on each page telling you in what way each recipe is going to do you good is superfluous and silly) with lots of information on the nutritive qualities of a wide range of fruits, vegetables , nuts, oils, spices etc. (though all of this in awkward-to-read tiny script if you, like me, are ‘mid-life enough to need good spectacles). The recipes are pretty much as you’d expect: Buddha bowls and smoothie bowls; lots of clean-eating staples and an awful lot of it rather time-consuming to make and, indeed, to shop for.
It’s all very pleasing to look at and inspiring to read, but I can’t help but feel it’s nothing but a mash-up of things that have gone before. There’s not a lot here that’s new, not a lot of substance that I haven’t read a dozen times before (Pinterest is full of this stuff). But maybe you haven’t read it all before and are looking for an attractive and comprehensive guide to good nutrition and eating well and in that case I can recommend this book. Be aware, the recipes are, for the most part, pure East London hipster-boho and prone to be somewhat smug (as I sit here at my desk in Bali… ) yet it is, for all that, a pleasant and informative read, lots of recipes, nicely done and full of good stuff - if you have the time (and can be bothered) to put that much effort into eating healthily. And if not, you can just enjoy the pictures and the prose and dream of having the time and the energy to make a ‘midlife take on kedgeree’.

A wide selection of relatively easy recipes. The core self made spice or herb mixes are the secret ingredients & you would benefit from an electric spice grinder. All the dishes I have made so far have worked & are meant to be healthy as well!

Excellent book with lots of new ideas for healthy cooking. Bought it on kindle to begin with and then ordered it in hardback. Using it lots.
