Nite Fire #2

Chain Reaction

Rate this book
If anyone can tell the difference between monsters and humans, it’s Dahlia Nite. For nearly a century, she’s hunted one to protect the other; safeguarding humanity from the creatures that slip through the torn veil between the worlds—creatures like her. But the lines are blurring. As people begin mutating and combusting on the streets, Dahlia realizes a strange affliction has descended upon Sentinel City. The mysterious ailment strikes all walks of life, from the posh, high-end nightclub district to the homeless community. Its victims, driven to random acts of savagery, are drawing attention too fast to cover up.

Assigned to the case, Dahlia and her human partner, Detective Alex Creed, investigate the deaths. But all they have are questions and bodies, and a public on the verge of panic. Working behind the scenes with her self-appointed sidekick, Casey Evans, Dahlia struggles to discover what, or who, is behind the alarming transformations. As the violence spreads and the mystery unfolds, she wonders: are the victims still human? Were they ever?

Chain Reaction is the second book in the Nite Fire Series.

Born in the Midwest, I live in New York's scenic Hudson Valley Region with my husband and two sons. A huge reader since childhood, I penned my first full-length novel in high school on a typewriter in my parent's living room. That was when my dream of becoming a published author was born. Life happened, and it took a while, but I can honestly say: it's the best job ever.

If you're looking for puppies, rainbows, and sweet romance, you won't find that here. My stories tend to run dark, gritty, and adult, full of action, magic, intrigue, antiheroes, mysteries and monsters.

This review is also featured on Behind the Pages: Chain Reaction

There’s a new drug on the street, and it’s causing humans to mutate and combust. As Nite begins to investigate she’ll discover the worst is yet to come. Someone is using her city as a testing ground and could care less how many bodies burn up. As the death pile grows, the city begins to panic. Rumors of monsters fill the streets. This is one cover-up story Nite isn't sure the dragons can pull off.

I switched to the audiobook this time around and Cassandra King did a fantastic job narrating. Nite is a no nonsense character, and Cassandra added just the right amount of attitude to her voice. But not only did she capture Nite perfectly, but her vocal range and abilities also shined throughout the story as she gave life to each character.

As a half-dragon empathic shifter Nite has quite a few tricks up her sleeve. Not only is she good with her knives, but she can breathe fire and use her empathic abilities to experience a person’s last moments before death. And as Nite uses her ability to see through the eyes of victims, she witnesses grisly tales of pain and suffering.

Chain Reaction is an adrenaline fueled ride. Nite does not hesitate to jump into the middle of things and get her hands dirty. The battle scenes are intense, and the tension builds throughout the story as Nite works to discover who is behind the new drug. And when she finds out her advisory wants to use the humans of her city to make a mark on the world, she’ll strike back with all she has to protect them. Sentinel City is hers, and she will not stand for anyone encroaching on her territory, or her people.

Reading about Nite navigating the human world and using her dragon abilities to solve crimes is pure entertainment from start to finish. By blending the genres of crime thriller and fantasy, C.L. Schneider has created a unique reading experience I can’t get enough of. Looking for an urban fantasy series with a strong female lead? Give the Nite Fire series a try!

The half-dragon shapeshifter/police advisor Dahlia Nite is back, protecting the humans of Sentinel City. This time, a drug is wreaking havoc, and she has to stop it before they're all exposed.

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was awesome, easily one of my top reads this year.
After introducing Dahlia and the dragon backstory in the first book; this sequel wastes no time in driving head on with a new story.
It mixes detective thriller, with a buddy cop movie, and gives it all a paranormal punch. So far, I am loving this series. The stories and the characters are great, and you get the winning formula of supernatural entertainment blending effortlessly with reality.
It also doesn't take itself seriously, and is full of wonderful light moments (especially with sidekick Casey).

In this sequel, Dahlia has to uncover the person behind a new drug that makes people spontaneously combust, or turn into monsters. She is really pushed to the edge, in what she can cover up - it's hard to keep the supernatural secret, when the evidence is running down the streets!
Throughout the story, I love the subtle hints at how the bad guy is playing Dahlia for a fool, and when the twists finally came, I actually laughed (or made an awkward, strangled sound that made my boyfriend look at me funny), as I finally realised that I'd been played, too.

I don't want to say anything else that might spoil this story, I can only recommend you check this series out!
Book 3, please.

able to pick up this one and feel excited

Overall 5 out of 5 stars
Performance 4 out of 5 stars
Story 5 out of 5 stars

Dahlia Nite had returned. I was not disappointed. You wont be either. In a simple nut shell she's strong and determined. This time around maybe we can add a little confused. She's not sure if she's hunting the right parties because lately humans have been turning out to be monsters like any she has hunted before. She had to find out what was causing this transformation in the humans.

There were a host of characters, vivid images, strong plot line, and determined voices wanting to be heard in the detailed world of Nite Fire and Sentinel City. Dahlia works her way through the violent mystery that had taken hold of her city. Her and her partner, Alex, and trusted friend, Casey works this case from multiple sides. This urban fantasy with a mystery was well written.

Cassandra King brings to life Dahlia and the full cast of other worldly and human characters. She lends voice to a new world that has intrigued me and lured me over to the Nite side.

Dahlia Nite and Detective Creed are back for more in Chain Reaction book #2 in the Nite Fire series with more people turning up dead. All the bodies have been burned. Did they spontaneously combust or is someone running all over town burning people? Dahlia, Creed and Evans are chasing down leads hoping to find the answers or the one responsible for the deaths.

Not only do they have to worry about dead bodies there is something else affecting the people, a new drug Chrysalis has turned up in the city that is having strange effects on people and causing them to act in weird ways and causing strange things to happen to their bodies. Dahlia must find the source of this new drug before it takes over the whole city.

This has been one epic journey that Chain Reaction has taken me on and one that will stay with me for a long time to come. It is filled with lots of twist and turns and lots of action in between. It is fact paced and kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next fighting scene and I didn’t have to wait long in between each one. I love books book with lots of fighting and the Nite Fire series does not disappoint in that department at all.

The world building with the fire breathing dragons is so amazing. I would so love to see this on the big screen. I have not read that many books about dragons but the Nite Fire series has certainly changed my mine. I do see more dragon’s in my future. I was so glad after reading book #1 Flash Point that I had Chain Reaction book #2 on hand so I could jump right in and continue my journey with Dahlia, Creed, Evans and the dragons. I can’t wait to see where Dahlia and all the other characters take us in book #3 of this amazing series.

If you like dragons, paranormal creatures with lots of action on almost every page then you are going to love Chain Reaction but I would suggest reading book #1 Flash Point first to get a better understanding as to what is happening.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by C.L. Schneider. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

You can read my review of Flash Point, the first book. My opinion of the badassery of the heroine has not changed. So there's no need to go into detail about her past and her character. I like that she's more open with her partner and is actually making friends. Though, losing some too in this world. I also can't talk about the world-building much, since that was done in book one. But we get into even more of the gritty world of the Dragon Elders.

The plot of this one follows suit with the first book - dark, epic, gritty, and cringe-worthy. The special abilities given to the Dragon Shifters with this new drug are amazing, but what they do to the poor humans, is painful to listen to. Also, once the dark plans are revealed, you know not to expect many happy endings in this world.

The narration was great, again. I enjoy the voices and pacing and would continue to listen to this narrator in other books as well.

Everytime I read something by this author, I am reminded why I enjoy her books so much. I love the way she writes, the characters, the story...everything. I have a soft spot for Dragon shifters and C.L. Schneider writes them in such a unique light. Dahlia Nite is by far my favourite character, Evans is a close second, but then again he is human and there's only so many unique ways to write a human character.

Nite Fire: Chain Reaction by CL Schneider is the second book in her Nite Fire series. This book can be read as a standalone but I highly suggest reading the first book to enrich your enjoyment of this series. This is a thriller-suspense-shifter book that is written with creative characters and an easy flowing story line. This author will take you on a journey of twists and turns that will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat. The characters are connectable and enjoyable. In the first book we met Dahlia who has the ability to tell the difference between monsters and humans. In this next installment about Dahlia, she and her partner are assigned a case that have left them with questions and dead bodies. As the city is on the edge of panic, she fights to find out who or what is behind all of this transformations. What will she finds as she unfolds this mystery? I enjoyed each of these characters, they are strong. My favorite character is Dahlia. She has determination and knows what she wants. The other characters are creative as well. I have always enjoyed shifter books and this one is no different. This author has a way of creating characters in a unique way which makes them enjoyable. They are easy to flow and keep the story engaging. I highly recommend this book. Find out what happens to Dahlia next and if she is able to solve this mystery.

The story is a supernatural shifter story and the second exciting book in this action-adventure series. You really need to read these books in order, or you are missing so much on the characters and the world the author has created. The writing and the word building are such that you can easily and vividly imagine the characters and their unique. The humour, the intrigue, the danger, and the action will keep you enthralled right to the end. The story takes you on a journey where not everything is as it seems.
Our Heroine, Dahlia Nite is half human half dragon and is a sassy assassin who fights to protect humans. Dahlia and Detective Alex Creed find themselves investigating a mysterious ailment that is leaving death in its wake and nobody is safe.

This is the second book in the Nite Fire series, and it is still going way strong. The author has created a very rich world, one in which the characters are multi-faceted, neither good nor bad. Even when it seems the characters can’t get more interesting, something happens and things change. Admittedly, I am not overly fond of the very wordy book, of which this series tends to be, but I am so vested in everything that goes on, I can’t help but revel in every one. I love this world, and I love the hints of things that are yet to be revealed. If you love a very complex, well-written urban fantasy, give this book and series a try! I highly recommend this book!

Nite Fire:Chain Reaction is book two in the Nite Fire series by C. L. Schneider. Another brilliant forage into the paranormal. This author puts a clever and unique spin on the genre, as do all authors, but C. L. Schneider stories are just more memorable.

Dahlia is fierce, flawed and protective. She has a job to do, and will stop at nothing to get the job done. Something strange is happening to the the people of Sentinal City, and it is up to her to investigate.  It is a mystery that needs to be solved, bu is she fighting against a force she does not recognise? It was gripping stuff to unveil the deep, dark and mysterious surrounding Dahlia and team.

Nite Fire:Chain Reaction was an extremely suspenseful and riveting story, which kept the anxiety at a high, nervousness at a high, wonder at a high and expectation far exceeded. The talent is so evident, in every word you can tell of the hard work that went into the revolution of storyline and each character. I can appreciate the effort the author went to to deliver such top quality reading. I for one really enjoy theses stories and love the edge of your seat, hand over mouth suspense that this author consistently produces. 5 stars.

Dahlia Nite is back in the next installment of this series and yet again, she has another crime to solve, but this time she has to overcome her own personal barriers as well as professional ones, although having Casey Evans around to talk to us helpful and her partner Detective Creed is as much of a thorn in her side as ever, but they all make a good team. This time, Dahlia is on one of her nighttime forays into the darkness and the seedier part of town, she is interrupted by a familiar scent, when she follows it she finds a young women who doesn’t belong there covered in blisters and peeling skin, but there is nothing she can do to help her when she combusts right before her eyes, but when the same thing happens at the gym the next day after her a d Casey have been sparring, there aren’t just blisters this time, the woman in question is mutating and as Dahlia is trying to help her, she combusts again, but this time it is in the middle of the street where everyone can see.

When Detective Creed arrives on the scene, he is frustrated and also slightly annoyed that is on Dahlia’s doorstep again, but not surprised either, however when he learns it is another spontaneous combustion case, he is not happy either, but at when it is revealed that Casey knows this woman, they start on tracking her movements for the last few days to see where she may have contracted whatever caused her death and to see if it uncovers any other victims. A few days later, some calls have come in about someone attacking their girlfriend in a club and then going on a violent rampage around the city, but when Dahlia and Creed finally chase the person down, it is clear that it is another victim, but this one is not easily put down and when Dahlia has chased him to the top of a building under construction, Creed is right on her heels, but she cannot get any information from him apart from one word before he falls to his death in a fiery ball.

Dahlia has no further ideas on what is causing the outbreak, but when a friend screams for help when he starts to report a crime, she is shocked to hear that he stole and came into contact with some of whatever was causing the problem, so as she sets off for another late night hunt, she runs into an old enemy, but she does find a name and a possible connection, however nothing goes as smoothly as planned, but as the bodies keep appearing and the mystery deepens, will Dahlia be able to keep a lid on what is happening and find out who is behind it, or will the city be swarmed by these rage fueled and mutated humans and in some cases, can they even still be called humans? This is another action packed thriller with a whirlwind of twists and turns throughout which will leave you guessing until the very end.

Note: This is Book 2 in the series and can work as a stand alone but is much better if read after Book 1.

What a fun urban fantasy! I quite enjoyed Book 1 and continued to enjoy the series with Book 2. Dahlia Nite is a wonderfully layered character, sometimes serious, sometimes snarky, sometimes tender, sometimes murderous. I’d enjoy hanging out with her in real life.

For this story, Dahlia is hunting elusive prey. At first, it’s really not clear what is going on but spontaneously combusting humans is just not normal. Plus it’s messy and attacks the wrong kind of attention. Dahlia, being a cleaner of sorts, needs to figure this out quick before some human authorities catch wind of the supernatural elements to these deaths.

I really like her sidekick Casey Evans. He’s supportive and funny and kind of like her little brother. Plus he’s a cop and isn’t a newbie to weapons and violence. Though this particular case will test his limits and loyalty. How much are you willing to cover up even if it means keeping many humans safe?

Then there’s Alex Creed. I really like this character because he’s a little broken yet doesn’t wallow in it. In fact, he just accepts it, shrugs, and carries on. I can see how the events of this story will put him and Dahlia at odds later. I really want things to work out well for both of them, but I fear the series might not allow that (and then just intrigues me to read on).

Having a perfect mix of action, reflection, flirtation, weapons, boot stomping, arson, and catching bad guys, this is a worthy addition to the urban fantasy genre. 5/5 stars.

The Narration: Cassandra King is a delight to listen to. I feel she channels Dahlia while narrating this book. I also love her voice for Alex Creed, being a bit gravelly and suspicious of the goodness in those around him. Sometimes, I felt the male character voices could use a bit more masculinity. Like sidekick Evans sometimes sounds more like his sister Marnie. Then there’s this rich bloke Bastian Rand with the educated snotty accent and sometimes he sounds like a man and sometimes he sounds like an older woman. However, over all the performance was really good. All the characters had distinct voices and the ladies were all well performed. The pacing was perfect and there were no technical issues with the recording. 4.5/5 stars.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by C.L. Schneider. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Nite Fire: Chain Reaction
By: C.L. Schneider
5 out of 5 stars

The story Nite Fire: Chain Reaction by C.L. Schneider is a thrilling journey that takes you into the world of the paranormal. It is a book that had me hooked from the very beginning. It is the second book in the Nite Fire series. I would highly recommend reading this series in order. I found that way the story had a smoother flow as events that happened in the first book were revisited and many of the characters are in both stories. This book has Dahlia Nite and her partner Detective Alex Creed investigating a mysterious ailment that leads to strange deaths in Sentinel City. They are finding more questions than answers. Will they be able to solve who or what is behind the strange events and deaths? Will they be able to keep the city safe? This story has plenty of action and danger for Dahlia and those that are helping her. It had me on the edge of my seat and trying to put together the clues that are being discovered. There are revelations and the motives of some of the characters are uncovered. Dahlia does her best to cover up and keep humans safe when creatures from other worlds cause problems. I really love her character as she is strong, independent, and compassionate. As the story progresses, she finds herself having to make hard decisions. Her partner Detective Alex Creed is a man who buries himself in his work. I enjoyed the interaction between them. I found myself smiling when they talk as there is a lot of sarcasm between them. Dahlia is also friends with Casey Evans. He is a true friend and he steps up when she needs help. There are characters in this story that help Dahlia while others have their own agenda and plans which they will do anything to achieve. Not everyone places the same value on life. This is a fast-paced story which I didn’t want to put down until I had read the last page. Don’t miss out on the continuing story of Dahlia Nite. I have read several books by the author and found that she writes wonderful stories and creates amazing characters. I can’t wait to read what she writes next.

Chain Reaction is the second book in the Nite Fire series of novels by C. L. Schneider. It continues the story of Dahlia Nite, a half-dragon shapeshifter from another world who, together with Detective Creed and Officer Casey Evans (her trusty sidekick), sets out to uncover the source of a drug that’s turning the human residents of Sentinel City into monsters. The investigation takes a series of dramatic twists and turns, and plunges Dahlia face-to-face with perhaps her greatest adversary yet.

This book is a thrill ride filled with tension, excitement, and death. Sprinkled expertly throughout are engaging side-plots, light-hearted moments, and some incredible dialogue. Supernatural and mythical elements blend effortlessly with real-life scenarios that create a world—a number of different worlds, in fact—that are breathtakingly detailed and absorbing.

Dahlia Nite is a great character. She’s half-dragon (which is awesome in itself), she’s bad-ass, and tough. She’s protective, flawed, and vulnerable. Schneider has done an amazing job creating a well-rounded, engaging, and completely loveable character. Dahlia’s interactions with Casey Evans are often funny and always entertaining, and she’s finally beginning to thaw the ice around Detective Creed’s cold persona. Even the minor characters such as Coen and Aidric are not just there to make up the numbers but actually add importance and meaning to the story. They’re believable citizens in a world that breathes.

I’m a grown man so I don’t want to gush like a teenage girl at a boy-band concert, but C. L. Schneider is one of the best authors I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. I’ve read the Crown of Stones trilogy and the first two books in the Nite Fire series, and each novel is like stepping through the back of a wardrobe similar to that of C. S. Lewis’s, and entering a real and authentic world in which you can truly sense the sights and sounds around you. Nite Fire: Chain Reaction (in fact any book by this author) is highly recommended.

Oh wow, I loved this book. It continues from where book one left off, so I would highly recommend that if you haven't read or listened that you start with book one, you won't be disappointed as it is just as good. Where to start .....it is hard to put this book in a category other an excellent roller coaster ride. It starts are a police procedural as remain character is called in as police consultant to help on some unexplained deaths but it quickly jumps in the super natural as the deaths are anything but natural. I think is why I am hooked on the series and so glad that I discovered this author because the two genres are combined so seamlessly into one action packed explosion adventure full of dragons and myths. The other reason I love it is because of the characters I have quickly become attached to them over the course of two books, especially with her sidekick who adds humour and snark to both characters but I do wish that the author didn't write them into such dire situations that I want to skip to the end or check out the blurb on the next book to see if they make it. Off to see what is in store for them next.
Dahlia Nite a Dragon shifter that has assigned herself the job of protecting humans from creatures that come from other worlds is once again teamed up with Detective Alex Creed when people in a nightclub and on the streets start mutating before they combust leaving no trace of what happened. The only clue is the word crystalist half whispered before another victim is burn beyond a crisp. Is it a new drug? But where did it come from? Who made it and more importantly how can they stop it? Because when a friend of Dahlia's starts to show signs of going through the transformation it gets very person and time is running out for everyone.
I really like the narrator. She has to do a wide range of voices for this book and even some accents but with her narrating the hours just flew by.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review

Chain Reaction is the second book in the Nite Fire Series by C. L Schneider. The story is a paranormal, action/adventure. It has so much going for it- there’s supernatural elements, danger, shifters, mystery, suspense, drama… and so much more. I really recommend reading the first book in order to have all the important backstory details, before starting this one.
We meet up with Dahlia Nite again, and as we discovered in the first book, she is a shapeshifting assassin who came to the human realm to hide out after an assignment went awry. She didn’t stay in one place for long, moving from town to town, and has devoted her time and particular ‘talents’ to protecting people who are at risk by eradicating the creatures that ‘go bump in the night’, that threaten the unsuspecting human population.
She had teamed up with Detective Alex Creed and now they have had time to settle into their partnership. They may be very different in their methods, and even come from very different backgrounds, but it’s their differences that make them such a great team. But, in this book we see them investigating a spate of mutations and people who are combusting in the middle of the street. This case will test them, and their relationship/s, as they race to discover what’s happening, and why. Dahlia will need to change the way she approaches an investigation in order to get to the bottom of it all. With fear and panic at an all time high, there is a lot at stake. Will they unravel everything before it’s too late?
This is a fantastic second instalment, it is such an intriguing, unique and imaginative story. Ms. Schneider has once more proved to be a very talented author.
I recommend this book/series to anyone who loves a great paranormal story with supernatural elements, action and adventure. You are sure to love it as much as I do!

Thank you, Ms. Schneider!

a great read about magic affecting humanity. Dahlia Nite continues her life from the first novel, continuing to save humanity from monsters from other worlds. but when a series of people start growing mutations and spontaneously combusting in broad daylight, she realises there is more to it than it seems. on the hunt for who is behind it all, she will need help from friends old and new to unravel the mystery and stop the mutation spreading. as events unravel and secrets are revealed, will Dahlia be able to stop it all before it is too late?
a great read. well developed lot with twists and turns that I just couldn't put down. can be read as standalone but is better enjoyed when you read the previous novel first. well developed characters like Dahlia struggling with her empathic abilities and also trying to save people or Evans with his humour and kindness hat was gentle that balanced the horror of the events around him beautifully. Dahlia's struggle to save people and cope with her emotion and pain and anguish was perfectly written and helped round her out as a character.
a great example of adding to the magical world of the novel in deeper explorations of Dahlia's empathic powers or with new exit portal formations or the marsh tribes and I adored how they had green and blue scales of visual detail to represent how a marsh is a combination of water and land. once again the transformations into dragons were spellbinding in visual detail and easy to follow. I also loved the spooky nature of the abandoned docks and the sense of ordinary people getting mixed up in big events. I also loved the recurring image of chrysalis and wings and butterflies throughout the novel which was a great addition. overall, a brilliant read and I would give it five stars.

Nite Fire: Chain Reaction is the second book of CL Schneider’s Nite Fire series. I would highly recommend that you go and read the first one, Nite Fire:Flashpoint, before you jump right into this one. That one really sets up the world that you are going to step in to. And it is a vivid one at that. I really enjoy the way that CL Schneider can bring to life the scene of the story so much so that I feel as if I am right there with the characters experiencing things firsthand. This is what brings me into these books and keeps me coming back, well that and the story is good too… That being said, I normally am not a shifter person. They are hard for me to get into because I just can't see it as a feasible thing in my mind, even if I make believe. However, just as with the first one, Schneider manages to make the characters so realistic and relatable that you don’t really notice the shifter aspect as much and I was able to buy it.

In Chain Reaction we follow Dahlia as she and her partner work their way through a troubling case. Dead bodies are piling up and so are the questions, with no answers in sight, and the city is in disarray over it reasonably so. What will await her in the shadows as she sets out to figure out what is going on and how to put an end to it? It will be an adventure with many ups and downs to keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to find out what will possibly come next. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series! Thanks for another great read CL Schneider!

I was totally hooked with the first in the series. The quest for truth and to learn more of things I had grown to love in the first book, continues in this amazing book. I found this one for me was more suspenseful than the first, but still pulled me in and would not let go! This book and series, seriously is amazing 100%!

As per the first novel I loved as well in this one, learning more about Dalia and who she was and more about her, in different ways. I love how she is such a complex character, and mysterious in her own ways, but never ever makes life or the story boring in any sort of way! Things take a lot if twists and turns in this book and Dahlia literally fight her own demons as well what could be the reason for all the issues the city is facing. I loved how things didn't seem to go her way at times, but she always was more determined than ever. The suspense was very real this book was amazing beginning to end! Also, as loved in the first novel, the visual as if a work of art in the descriptions of things! I loved how the author played on words and really created a visual master piece of Dahlia's city and world!

Loved this book so much. This series as well as the writing of the author is so freaking good and amazing! The author knows how to keep their readers interested and wanting more, and us as the readers get what we want in installments, as to keep us in anticipation haha! I can not wait to see what Dahlia is to face next as well as her city! I highly recommend this book, series, and author! Truly a must read!

I give Nite Fire: Chain Reaction by C.L. Schneider, 5 stars.
*This review may contain spoilers from book one.*

I love this series and this book, the second in the series, blew me away. From the beginning of book one, I have loved Dahlia. She not only kicks butt, she knows she's not perfect. She is very in touch with her human side. Unlike most of her kind, she respects and quite likes the humans. She has been on the run for so long, this book finally has her getting more comfortable with what she has come to think of as her city. But now her city is being overrun with strange creatures that used to be human. Now her job of keeping the humans safe and unaware is in the balance. Can she find out what is really cause this and at what expense?

Like I stated previously, I am in love with this series and was anxiously awaiting the release of this book. I was very far from disappointed. Dahlia and her friends are all back and better than ever. But neither are they perfect. This makes them even more believable. Not to mention the story. There is so much going on, I could not put the book down until I was finished. There were quite a few surprises too that I did not see coming.

This incredible story is very well written and will spellbound you from beginning to end. I highly recommend reading book 1 in the series first, but in my opinion this book and series is a must read in the urban fantasy category.

This is a book all about the supernatural.

Murder, mayhem, dragons, and mutants—oh my! Dahlia Nite is the only one who can discern the difference between monsters and humans. She's been hunting one to defend the other for over a century, protecting mankind from creatures that slip through the tattered curtain between the worlds—creatures like her. However, the distinctions are becoming increasingly blurred. Dahlia recognizes a weird sickness has fallen upon Sentinel City as individuals begin to mutate and explode on the streets. From the upscale, high-end nightclub sector to the impoverished neighborhood, the unknown sickness affects people from all walks of life. Its victims, driven to random acts of brutality, are attracting far too much attention to be hidden.

Dahlia and her human companion, Detective Alex Creed, are assigned to the case and are investigating the fatalities. But all they have are questions and bodies, as well as a terrified public. Dahlia is working behind the scenes with her self-appointed sidekick, Casey Evans, to figure out what or who is behind the frightening changes. She wonders, as the violence escalates and the mystery deepens if the victims are still human. Were they ever-present?

I loved this story. I loved every page of it. Every chapter was exciting. This is my second book in the series from this author and I can’t wait to read the rest of her books.

Dahlia Nite is back again with more murder mysteries piling up all around her. She has become a "fire consultant" for the police of Sentinel City, which helps her stay close to the "more interesting" (aka more bizarre) cases. The ones that she needs to help cover up before the veil of creatures and worlds are exposed to the fragile humans. She has hunted creature from the torn veil to keep humanity safe for almost a century now. She knows her monsters, but now something is throwing it all off. Something is different. But what is it? Smells and emotions are off. Are these victims really human? Or something else?? People are mutating and she can't smell anything but human before they combust! Yes they combust! As in up in flames!!! Combusting humans from homeless to high-class are drawing attention so fast that it's hard to cover up. Dahlia and her human partner (Creed) investigate the deaths but only come up with more questions and even more bodies. The public is on the verge of a major panic that can consume the whole city! Is this a virus? Is it contagious?? She needs to move fast and find what or who is at fault! Can her sidekick help to figure out that is going on? Will the queen step in and just take care of her at the same time? Two birds one stone? Man this book kept me on my toes!! I CAN NOT wait to read the rest in this set!!! I REALLY want this to become a movie! If done right I can totally see this set becoming a movie series!!

Chain Reaction (Nite Fire, Book 2) by C.L. Schneider topped it's predecessor, enhancing everything I love form the first book, while keeping the same elements that made this first for great.

Holy hell, this series is giving me heart problems. Right back into the think of things, there are more bodies, more bloody action and more sinister mysteries. It's like if CSI, Grimm and Criminal Minds had a baby, this would be the love child that broke all love childs. I can't get enough of this original, unique story. It's the tale I've been waiting for, searing for and I needed more of!

What else can I say, other then you need to get your hands on this book, no series ASAP! There isn't anything else like it out there, and I can't even tell you right, now cause my emotions are in a mess. As I said this series is giving me heart problems... in a good way.

There is so much good going on in this book. From the beautiful world building, to the outstanding characters right down to the prefect choreographed action. Everything interconnects to an explosive climax that leaves you breathless and waiting more.

Take my right recommendation that you will not be able to tare your eyes from this outstanding series. Barged about it, share it with your friends. These books need to be talked about and promoted.

Happy Reading

Nite Fire: Chain Reaction by CL Schneider is the second book in her Nite Fire series and this one just keeps getting better and better. This series is one that needs to be read in order, so I highly recommend getting book one, Flash Point, first and reading that so the storyline makes the most sense. Continuing the story of Dahlia, who we met in book one, we get to see more of her abilities as a shapeshifting assassin. This story opens with her and her partner being assigned a case full of nothing but questions and lots of dead bodies. As the city around them begins to panic, Dahlia must fight to control those around her and find the killer. As she digs for clues will she be able to stop the killer in time? How will Dahlia handle when more secrets come to light than she is prepared for, will she be able to fight like she was training or will this case be too much for her? Schneider has done it again with this book. I am not a huge fan of shape shifter books, but the first one, Flash point, in this series pulled me in, and this book kept be enthralled from beginning to end. I couldn’t read this book fast enough. If you are looking for a great author with a fantastic world building than this is definitely the series and author for you. I can’t wait to see what happens with Dahlia next.

Chain Reaction is book 2 in a four book series. I won't lie there were moments that it dragged on and I couldn't hold my attention; but I am so happy I stuck it out. We pick up where we left in book one, strange things are happening at an alarming rate. The only person (human) that knows Dahlia secret is her best friend and cop Casey Evans, it wasn't part of her plan for him to know but now that he does, he is more than happy to be Dahlia sidekick. But has things get worse and Oren isn't always helpful she is leaning on Casey a lot for help. But he isn't the only one wanting to protect and help Dahlia, Coen(s) wants to help her and he stays loyal to his word. Her and Reech reach an understanding because they have a common enemy. As a drug, Chrysalis is going through the city causes death and mutation. But as an elder takes on a very powerful person's identity. Dahlia has to put a stop to it but it always mean letting her partner Detective Alex Creed in our her secret partly because him not knowing would put him in more danger than knowing. But as one her biggest fights comes, can she and does she have what it takes on an elder? Dahlia Nite may only be part human but she finding out new things about herself and she is stronger than she thinks IF she uses it correctly.

Can't wait to read book 3!

Nite Fire: Chain Reaction (Book 2) by C.L. Schneider

Nite Fire : Chain Reaction is the second book in Nite Fire Series. I’m a huge fan of this author and her style of writing instantly pulls you in and takes you on quite the ride. I highly recommend reading this series in order as it will help give you better understanding of what is going on and you get to know the characters better. I messed up and read it out of order but u didn’t have a hard time following. This series is definitely going on my re-read list. This is a fast paced Paranormal/Fantasy that is packed with action, mystery, murder and mayhem. In this story we find Dahlia Nite and Alex Creed investigating a mysterious ailment that’s leading to strange deaths within Sentinel City. The further into the investigation they go its seems they are finding themselves with lots of questions and no answers. Can they keep the city safe while trying to figure everything out? Will these two solve the mystery of what or who is behind the deaths before it’s way to late? I freaking loved this book and I highly recommend reading to find out what happens next. I can promise you won’t be disappointed. If you are a fan of paranormal/Fantasy then this author is for you. I can’t wait to read many more books from this Author.

Chain Reaction is the second book in the Nite Fire series. I would definitely recommend starting at book one, Flash Point, so you get to know the characters and the world. It's an urban fantasy series about Dahlia Nite, a shape-shifting dragon who investigates crimes related to other monsters who have crossed over into the human world.

In Chain Reaction, Nite and her colleagues are presented with a particularly baffling series of cases. Spontaneous human combustion is involved, which makes gathering evidence near-impossible! And also means they've got no chance of hiding what's happening from the public. So it's a race against the clock to work out what's happening before it happens again and public panic worsens.

Evans comes into his own in this book. As one of the few humans who knows Nite's secret, he has declared himself her sidekick and helps cover for her when she needs to use her abilities to gather clues. In this book, we also get to meet Dr Winters, the medical examiner who has the mammoth task of working out what happened whilst she is being kept in the dark about the paranormal aspects of the case.

This book gets five stars from me! I would recommend the series to fans of urban fantasy and paranormal mystery. And anyone who wishes they could turn into a dragon!
