Constantine, King of Dragon Kings is an enigma. Extremely private, he keeps the details of his past secret. Now is your chance to get another glimpse into a certain time of his life - and the people he encounters that change him.
This is a short story involving Constantine from the New York Times bestselling Dark Kings series from Donna Grant.
Donna is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over a hundred novels. Her most popular series is the breathtaking Dark King (aka Dragon King) series featuring dragons, immortal Highlanders, and the Fae.
In addition to her novels, Donna has written short stories, novellas, and novelettes for digital-first and print release. She has been dubbed as giving the “paranormal genre a burst of fresh air” by the San Francisco Book Review. Her work has been hailed as having “deft plotting and expert characterization” by Publisher’s Weekly and “sizzling” by RT Book Reviews.
She has been recognized with awards from both bookseller and reader contests including the National Reader’s Choice Award, Booksellers Best Award, as well as the coveted K.I.S.S. Award from RT Book Reviews.
Donna travels often for various speaking engagements, conferences, and book signings. She is also a frequent workshop presenter at national conferences such as RT Book Lovers Convention and Thrillerfest, as well as local chapters.
Born and raised in Texas, she also has ties across the border in Louisiana. Growing up with two such vibrant cultures, her Cajun side of the family taught her the “spicy” side of life while her Texas roots gave her two-steppin’ and bareback riding. She is never far from her faithful 80 pound dog, Sisko, or her three cats. She can often be found at the movies or bookstore with her children. Or buying makeup. And shoes.
I really enjoy these short little novellas where we get to see more of Con. I especially liked this one. And this book just makes me believe Con is Rhi's Dragon King even more. If Con isn't her Dragon King, I'm gonna be so upset.
Love, love, love Donna Grant’s books on the Dragon Kings. She can’t write them fast enough for me. Whether it’s a whole novel or a short story I’m good with it.
This was a short one about Constantine walking in his Dragonwood and coming across a trespasser. Little does he know it’s Erith, AKA Death, and I adore her too. In the first Constantine short she gave herself a “glamor” look and appeared to him as Heather and this time she came as herself.
They talked about many things and when she disappeared Con had a brilliant idea of how they could live among the humans.
So, here’s my idea Ms. Grant. Give Con someone to love. His doesn’t HAVE to be the last story. You can still bring other dragons into the series and still have Ulrik hate him and still have the Dark Fea be their usual asshole selves. I just want Con to have someone, that’s all. And I bet a lot of your other Dragon King fans do too.
Well for 99 cents it wasn't a bad read. The story was great, not long enough even for a novella. But we were told to read this before Ulrik's story. Haha, so it was Death's idea for the Dragon King's scotch. That was kinda funny actually.

This novella (short story) is #11.6 in the series, "Dark Kings" by author; Donna Grant. It's actually in 3 small novellas (short stories) so this review is solely on part 2 which is set in the 1700s (human years). This super short novella gives the reader just a little taste on what Constantine (King of the Dragon Kings) is all about and what his thoughts are during that time and the past. I LOVED reading a glimpse of his past and the OMG character surprise =)!!!! Definitely, a must read for all you Dragon King fans but you seriously have to read all the novels and novellas before to actually know what's going on. You won't be disappointed at all!
Constantine is definitely one of the most discussed Kings, second only to Ulrik, but what do we really know about him? These little tales give us a piece of the whole, a part we did not see, and parts some of us dreamed of. There are definitely clues dropped and alluded too so keep your eyes peeled people, hopefully we won't have to wait too long to see all come to fruition. He is certainly one of my favorites and I can't wait to read his story and hopefully his happily ever after.
I love reading about Con and Erith's times together. This time was no different, but it was just so short! Was the last one this short? I don't remember, but I really look forward to more. These two truly have so much in common, and are probably the only ones who can relate to each other, that their friendship seems perfect and needed by both.
It's been almost 150 years since last time Erith came to talk to Con. Again she gives a fake name, but Con let's it go. They talk of time and hope, and it's clear they are both desperately lonely in the roles they hold. They are good company for each other and when Erith leaves, Con has a plan for the Kings future. Here is where we learn about the beginning of their whiskey and the meaning behind some of it.
Erith promises that if that Con recognized her she would tell him the truth of who she really is. And even if he doesn't, she will tell him some day. She may be fictional, but I'm going to hold her to that because I can't wait to see that happen. And I can't help but wonder if Con already knows in the current books.
Oh I can't wait for part 3 to get here. I want to see what happens between Con and Iris (aka - Death) I would love to find out if she becomes the friend who will be there no matter what.
I am a massive fan of the Dark Kings series so as soon as this one was available I pre-ordered it and I read it the day that it landed on my Kindle.
I love Con and I think that Death is a great character but I almost felt a little bit underwhelmed by this book. It is only a novella and I was aware of that but it seemed really short and I didn't really learn anything about Con's history and I am sad to say I was actually disappointed, I did expect more and I do think that this could easily have been added to the previous book.
I hope that part 3 is an improvement or I will just be sticking with the main books and the full stories!
Another short day in the life of Constantine. This is the second time he meets Erith and the day he decided to make Dreagan.
I quite enjoy these little shorts because they show Cons true feelings and his struggle with the past. It also shows that he clearly had a lover but something happened to her. I really can't wait to read Cons full story.
This is the second part of Constantine’s history from the Dark Kings series, another short story that provides some insight into the most intriguing and isolated Dragon King, the loneliest one with the heaviest of burdens. This also ties-in to the Reapers series.
Constantine still thinks of the enigmatic woman named Heather that he met long ago, though he can no longer recall her face in his mind, the memories of their encounter strangely vanished but before they’d been lost he’d sketched her picture, one he views on occasion. Out on his regular night patrol someone breaches Dreagan territory and Constantine immediately investigates. He meets a lone woman, this one is named Iris who intrigues him as did the woman he’d met before. He can sense that she’s not there to harm him or the Dragon Kings, a chat between immortals for he can tell she is not human. Is she Druid or Fae? He is not sure but his curiosity is piqued. She seems to fathom him like no other has and offers sage words of advice at a time his loneliness and skepticism has been deepening. With all the burdens he carries her philosophical counsel leads him to an idea, a plan that brings the King of Dragon Kings hope for the future. Who was this woman? Again he sketches her visage. Will he compare the two pictures? Again he is left an interesting gift, the use of which has to be deciphered. This was an intriguing peek into the psychology of two lonely immortals, their feelings and what they have sacrificed. A friendship is in the making that is sure to alter the future.
The story ends at 67% on a kindle followed by an excerpt of Dark Alpha’s Embrace.
This is another short story about Constantine, set in 1746. Constantine meets a mysterious woman who breaks through Dreagan magic barrier. She turns out to be .
I accidentally came across this novella when I was trying to get Constantine: A History. I thought this was just part of that Constantine novella. It turns out to be a completely different story. They should have called More History or something. Anyway, I find this one even less interesting than the previous novella. The story of the whisky doesn't even make sense, as Constantine was drinking Dreagan whisky at Laith's pub in 1601. Also that he becomes noticeable more aloof and detached since 1601 doesn't seem right either. He has gone through millennia after Ulrik incident and the Fae war and somehow he changed a lot the past century and a half? He suddenly loses hope, even after he was supposedly bolstered by the first encounter? Also, why doesn't it even occur to him to check his journals for the picture of the previous mysterious woman after he encounters the second one? OK, maybe I am overthinking it, but I hate it when the story doesn't make sense. Their interaction this time also feels a bit cringey.
On the flip side, we finally got hints. There are multiple references of someone who was important to him in the past. Hasn't the series been going on about someone who has been obsessed with a lost love for millennia?

•••••••••
REVIEW: 3.75 stars--CONSTANTINE: A History Part 2 is the second short story focusing on the King of the Dragon Kings Constantine, in the Donna Grant’s Dark Kings series.
CONSTANTINE: A History Part 2 reveals how the Dragon Kings began their whiskey distillery in Scotland, and Con’s continuing relationship with a woman that is familiar but not, a woman who speaks philosophically and in circles as she warns Constantine of things to come.
Like Part 1, Part 2 stops at 77%, and the remaining 23% offers up an excerpt from Dark Alpha’s Claim-the author’s series focusing on the Reapers, and the woman known as Death. Once again, the premise is entertaining and engaging but mostly a tease. Constantine: A History Parts 1 and 2 reads like a serialized story line that teases the reader into wanting something more but revealing very little at a time.
"Constantine: A History Part 2" by Donna Grant. Book 12.5 in the Dark Kings series.
I am really liking these short stories highlighting the past of Constantine (Con), Gold Dragon King and King of Dragon Kings. This is NOT to be read as a stand alone because if you are not familiar with Con in the series, this story will make no sense to you.
This story takes place approximately 150 years after the first short story (Constantine: A History). Once again, Erith (Death) makes an appearance and another discussion with Con ensues. This time the story is about Con loosing hope about the future and his Dragon Kings and Erith (aka Iris in this story) helps Con get his hope back. We also get to see the start of Dreagan Industries, the Kings' Whiskey Distillery.
The story provides good insight into what made Con into the Dragon King he is today. I look forward to reading the next short story.
A lot of people have reviewed about the book so I am just going to do a review on how I feel about Donna Grant's books. Donna Grant has been one of my favorite authors since the first book I read Dangerous Highlander in April 2011. Her books are out of my normal style of books that I read but I took a chance and I have never been disappointed. Donna's books are amazing and you cannot put them down. What is not to love about medieval warriors and dragon kings. Every series she has written is unique and amazing in their own way. All the main male characters are unique and they find a strong women to match them from past to modern times. I highly recommend you try Donna Grants books.
If you love the Dragon Kings you need to read Constantine Parts 1 & 2.
Learning about the early days of Con and his meeting with who we now know as Death will fill in some gaps about the mysterious "King of Kings"
Con is a character you love to hate then get mad because you thought you hated him. Then Love him and then start over with the hate.
Donna is a great weaver of tails. Or as she has said on her Facebook page, I don't plan out my books my characters take me with them. (paraphrasing here)
OMG!!!!!! I hate segmented books. They keep you in suspense for too long. But with Donna Grant it's worth the wait. Now I have even more questions and have fallen more in love with Con. How is that possible? He's a fictional character but Ms Grant has made him so human that you just know he's it there somewhere. You can't possibly do without reading her books. Each of the series intertwine so magically that you're wishing you were there.
This is a nice short quick read that Donna Grant wrote for her fans of the Dragon King series. It is supposed to fill in how the DK series and the Reaper series are connected. It also gives us a glimpse into the life of Constantine. Since his book is going to be last in the series giving us something to know a bit more about him is great. And it also gives us more of a history as a whole. Take an hour out of your day to read this. You won’t regret it.
We get to see another interaction between Erith and Con. We also get a glimpse into Con's feelings toward the other Kings, even Ulrich. Learning about how Dreagan started is another thing that is shown. The only drawback is that it is really short. I guess I expected another chapter or two when I turned the page at the end. But I do enjoy looking into Con's past.
Constantine a history part 2 just whet my appetite for more of his story. it is 140 years later,1746, and he meets up with a woman in the woods on Dreagan. it is Heather/Death/Erith but she calls herself Iris this time. they talk and they become friends. She gifts him again with a gold pocket watch and hints at an idea to give him purpose among the humans of the world. it is the birth of their whisky and how they are going to hide right in front of the world.
It's 2 short again... It's strange how death needs a friend like con but deciving him isn't good at all especially if she needs him in the future as a ally. He still feels like he takes her advice after thinking things through. He has a hard life but they both agree that they like their friendship cause they can easily talk 2 each other.
I loved this book. I wish it were longer but that just adds to the anticipation of Con's book. These little glimpses into Con's history is so insightful despite being so short. I would recommend this book and all of Donna Grant's other books to everyone.
Con, King of Dragon Kings is my favorite dragon king, so any news about him is what I crave. Loved both Part 1 and Part 2. It is very short but worth the read if you're a Con fan like me.
This is the 2nd little glimpse into Con's past. This is a short little peak about how Dreagan whiskey came about. Its also a little glimpse into Erith and her feelings.......very telling! Love it!!
Constantine: A History Part 2: (Dark Kings) by Donna Grant ... WOW ... I don't know what else to say...Con...Erith ....pocket watch...symbol...so many clues..so many questions...keep up the GREAT work Donna Grant.... waiting for the next installment! :)
This book is giving us a deeper glimpse of who Constantine is, however will we learn just who it is He loves? And does he ever completely figure out who the female is he keeps meeting with on separate occasions? Can't wait for the complete book.
I enjoy reading about the Dragon Kings. Learning more about Con helps in understanding why he is the way he is. He can be pain sometimes but he has a lot on his shoulders. Doing things right for his kings is important. This book helps to make him more interesting.
