Bear Grylls has become known around the world as one of the most recognized faces of survival and outdoor adventure. His journey to this acclaim started in the UK on the Isle of Wight, where his late father taught him to climb and sail. Trained from a young age in martial arts, Bear went on to spend three years as a soldier in the British Special Forces, serving with 21 SAS. It was here that he perfected many of the skills that his fans all over the world enjoy watching him pit against mother-nature. Despite a free-fall parachuting accident in Africa, where he broke his back in three places, and after enduring months in military rehabilitation, Bear went on to become one of the youngest ever climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Bear went on to star in Discovery Channel's Emmy nominated Man Vs Wild and Born Survivor TV series, which has become one of the most watched shows on the planet. Off screen, Bear has lead record-breaking expeditions, from Antarctica to the Arctic, which in turn have raised over £2.5million for children around the world. In recognition of his expertise and service, Bear was appointed as the youngest ever Chief Scout to 28 million Scouts worldwide, awarded an honorary commission as a Lieutenant-Commander in the Royal Navy, and has authored 10 books, including To My Sons.
This book contains a lot of very useful information. It's a compilation of every skill you need in nature. I've always wanted to master some of these skills and reading a little bit about them was definitely a step towards achieving my goal. I will definitely reread parts of this before going camping or just going on a hike. I really recommend checking it out if you want to learn a little bit more about what to do when you're out in the wild.
It's a pretty good book, aimed mostly at scout age kids I think, but good for anyone that fancies being outdoors a lot. Very sensible advice on what to look for when buying outdoor kit, and on avoiding certain things.
Also good advice throughout and lots of illustrations. Also sone camp fire stories of Bear's experiences or those of people he's met to make the advice a bit more real.
Good for people involved in scouting, especially adult volunteers. There are some practice exercises in here that I'm going to take into my programme planning for the cubs and scouts I help with.
Very useful book, with a lot of tips for making the most out of an expedition into the wild. It is very easy to read and it presents the most important advice in a straightforward fashion, while also encompassing some relevant examples related to the topic. One should definitely try it, especially since it comprises some very valuable information without unnecessary digressions.
This is a number one book for survive in the nature. If you like to walk in the wild it will be useful, because you never know when you need some life hacks to survive is some hard situations.
Ez egy elsőszámú túlélőkönyv. Ha szeretsz sétálni a vadonban, hasznos lesz, mert sosem tudhatod, mikor lesz szükséged néhány életmentő tippre nehéz helyzetekben.
A basic book for surviving and having fun in the wild. Doesn't cover the guides to survive in special conditions and specific environments. I recommend the SAS Survival Guide for that :)
