This was a pick for a book club and the author generously gave his time for a group Q&A over Skype, which provided fascinating additional insights into the writing process.
The book contains groups of composite/anonymized letters from a therapist to his clients, which are compassionate and yet, at times, confronting, providing a clear lens into the intimate relationship between practitioner and patient. The material he covers is vast- romantic relationships, loneliness, spiritual growth, insecurity, self-doubt- and he adeptly weaves together the common themes and shared humanity that bring so many to the therapist’s couch.
It’s a great book to “prescribe” in that it lets clients know that they’re not alone in feeling or thinking a certain way. It could also be quite helpful for those on the path to becoming therapists who are still trying to figure out how much feedback is appropriate or therapeutic. Engaging, thoughtfully written and unique book!

Fairly good book with some insight, but very vague in that this might help you if one of the letters contains something abstract that you can take away with you. It isn't a gripping read (it's not meant to be) but it's probably good as a coffee table book.
